Windows nas storage

Does anyone have experience of using NAS storage with iTunes. I am considering buying a WD Mycloud for normal storage and for containing my iTunes library. Would this work? I'm using Windows 7 and the latest iTunes

Hi,
You can edit the shared folder’s security permissions from Windows. Right click the shared folder and select 'Properties', under the 'Security' tab click 'Edit'.
For more detaile information, please refer to the “Users can create their own folders and edit the permissions on Windows” part in the article below:

  • NAS Storage Suggestion

I've got a small networked office (with a laptop and a desktop) and am hoping for suggestions for a reliable long term solution for an NAS storage device that I can connect to my Time Capsule via ethernet connection. I will be using this device to Time Machine backup my MacBookPro.
The 1TB Time Capsule backing up my 500 GB Mac Pro.
Other information: I have an 500 GB external hard drive, connected to this via USB, that is serving as a "network server" for some relatively small project folders. These folders get backed up to the Mac Pro (so that /they/ also have a backup). I am using the extra space on this external drive in order to temporarily store large folders that need to be archived. This seems to be a reasonable solution to my need to access working project folders which contain files that I may need to work on from my desktop and my laptop. Ease of access (very direct without a lot of hoops) is extremely important in this case.
I have a design office and the G-Technology products are so nice looking.
At the same time everyone I talk with say go with Western Digital.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

If you are looking at a NAS device to connect to the Time Machine via the USB port, from the Drobo point of view I'd suggest the Drobo S rather than the Drobo FS; the FS connects via GB ethernet, and will essentially be replicating a lot of the functions of the Time capsule.
That said, the Drobo FS isn't that much more than the S, and it seems the network performance is better than the TC is capable of (by 2 to 3 times), if you were to connect it via ethernet and use it as a seperate device to the TC.
I'm actually in the process of looking for an alternative to my Drobo+Droboshare, and have been looking at TC. Reason being is that Drobo uses a proprietary RAID system (Beyond RAID or something) and that means if you get a hardware failure, the only way to recover your data is to invest in another Drobo device. You can't plug the drives into another make of device and pull the data off. The drives HAVE to remain as a 'pack' and if plugged individually into a 'powered on' other device, the drives are reformatted and wiped. Data lost.
TBH, the best value for money device I've seen so far is the ASUS TS mini NAS which uses windows home server and 2 500Gb hard drives, supposedly about 40-60 MB/sec of network performance (according to online tests) compared to 12 for the TC, and 20-30 for the Drobo FS, and is about the same cost as the 1TB time capsule. However, wife wants 'Apple' and it is windows, so ....
works well though (or at least the WHS install on an old Dell optiplex does).

  • NAS Storage on Azure Backup Services

Hi are looking to use the new Azure Backup Services to backup our on premise data. Unfortunately, we use NAS boxes for a large amount of data and mount them as drives and these are not showing as valid backup sources on the agent software.
Can we use the Azure Backup Services to backup the NAS data or will we have to resort to using a third oarty coupled with a BLOB storage account?
    Regards
    Matt

    Hello Matt,
    Thanks for posting here!
I think NAS storage backup is not supported by Azure Backup.
For more information check this link:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj573031.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396#BKMK_faq_10
You can use third party software to back it up as a storage blob.

  • Is it possible to use NAS storage (which is wired via LAN to AirPort Extreme) as a Time Machine destination?

Is it possible to use NAS storage (WD My Cloud EX2 or WD My Cloud EX4) which is wired via LAN to current AirPort Extreme, as a Time Machine backup destination?
There are two reasons I came up with this question.
    - Connecting via Ethernet should be faster than USB 2.0 connection
    - 8TB NAS storages are slightly cheaper than 8TB USB HDD
If it is impossible, I am planning to buy My Book Thunderbolt Duo 8TB and wire it for MacBook Pro directly for the purpose of Time Machine backup.
I have a concern with my primal idea of backing up via WiFi, as I tend to handle big files when doing music production or movie editing. I wonder if this affect the performance of MacBook Pro, as it might take more time to complete each backup via WiFi.
Many thanks for your advice in advance,
    Masa
MacBook Pro Retina 15 inch (Mid 2012)

I would appreciate any advice which could include aother sollition of secure and practical backup.

  • Xbox 360 and nas storage for streaming media

    Hi there,
I have an xbox 360 and watch movies on it through my network that are stored on my home PC, this means that I have to have my home PC on whenever I want to watch a movie. What I would like to do is have a NAS storage device that I can store all my movies on that is on the same notwork so that I can then watch the movies on my xbox without the need for the PC being on. Obviously I would want the NAS to be seen by the computer's I have on my network also.
I way thinking about getting this item Western Digital - My Book Live 1TB External Home Network Drive - Black but am not sure if the xbox will see it? or is there a better solution for around the same price which is expandable?
    Thanks.

You'd have to get a real home or business NAS product to stream to the 360 and those are not in the same price range as the product you are looking at.

  • Can't install windows azure storage sdk on windows phone 8

From Visual studio 2013 ultimate, I opened Nuget package manager console and typed following command for my windows phone 8 solution:
    install-package windowsazure.storage
And I got the following error:
install-package : Could not install package 'Microsoft.WindowsAzure.ConfigurationManager 1.8.0.0'. You are trying to install this package into a project that targets 'WindowsPhone,Version=v8.0', but the package does not contain any assembly references or
    content files that
are compatible with that framework. For more information, contact the package author.
    At line:1 char:1
I get the same problem using UI version of package manager as well.
Did something change with the newer version of windows azure storage?

The package you are trying to install does not include the Windows Phone library. Please use the following command instead:
    Install-Package WindowsAzure.Storage-Preview -Pre
Thanks for this. It worked for me. Can I just add, for those that don't know how to run this command. You go to tools > Library package manager > package manager console then paste in the command and hit enter.
    Thanks again!

    Hi,
It is a SDK version issue. I suggest you could remove all azure sdk form your PC and use WPI to install the latest version again.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

  • Windows Azure Storage Account Location change

    Hi Experts,
I have deployed my Web site on Windows azure. I have created Windows Azure Storage Account. By mistakely i have set the location wrong. How can we change the location of Windows storage account?
    Thanks!

    Hello CRM Inn,
I am sorry to know that you have chosen an incorrect location and would like to change the location for your storage account. Unfortunately, there is no option available to change the storage location for an existing storage account.
Your only option would be to create a new storage account, migrate data to the new storage account and delete the existing one. You can refer to this article that will give you information on migrating data from one account to another:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/windowsazurestorage/archive/2012/06/12/introducing-asynchronous-cross-account-copy-blob.aspx
I also suggest that you create affinity groups. By creating affinity groups you can be sure that all your related services are under the same data center. You can refer to this article to learn about Affinity groups:

I would not do it... I mean hunting for Storage Server is pointless. For a reason: built-in restrictions make it unusable for anything else except storage management (what it was initially designed for).
(there are other important restrictions like being not able to be an Active Directory controller but they are irrelevant in the context of this topic)
Running more then 2 VMs is not supported. Having full-blown x64 server doing only storage and spending 1% of CPU time for that is... a bit questionable investment. System would be insanely resource over provisioned. Very bad ROI. See:

    Hi
My query is in case I have one SAN storage with SSD and FC disks connected to Windows 2012 storage server, will Windows be able to manage Tier between two types of disks if the volumes are properly assigned and formated?
    Regards
Short answer: No, not automatically. Long answer: Yes, it can be done but with some tricks. First you'll have to make your SAN export LUs built from flash and from spindles. At least one of each (see URL below). Then you'll have to build storage spaces (even
clustered but that's not officially supported for non-SAS disks) from them.
    See:
Configure Tiering with Windows Server 2012 R2
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askpfeplat/archive/2013/10/21/storage-spaces-how-to-configure-storage-tiers-with-windows-server-2012-r2.aspx
Both LUs would have non-SSD type reported so you'll have manually assign types with PowerShell what's flash and what's spindle.
"Notice that the SSD devices were detected as SSD media.  However, in this case the physical drives show as unknown.
If yours are not detected like in this example, they should be set correctly which can be done using PowerShell. "
    Hope this helped :)

  • Can the time capsule be used as both a time machine backup and NAS storage

Can the time capsule be used as both a time machine backup and NAS storage?   I want to use the drive as external, wireless storage for all of my files so all my PCs, MACs and iOS devices can access the files.  Plus, I want to use the drive for backing up my iMac via time machine.  Can the time capsule device be used for both these purposes simultaneously?  If not, are the other suggestions on how I can do this?

Can the time capsule device be used for both these purposes simultaneously?
It can, but is really not recommended. Sooner or later there will be a fight for space on the drive between Time Machine and the other files.
If you have plenty of free space on the drive, you can do this......but.....have you thought about how you will back up the "other" files that are stored on the Time Capsule?

  • NAS Storage itunes match

I'm working offshore so generally away from home for 4-5 weeks at a time, and I have recently added itunes match to my works Laptop, with approx 500 songs.
I haven't signed up to Match on my home PC(yet) and also I haven't added my FULL music library to the home PC yet, but I remember that my NAS Storage shows up in my itunes library as an External Device/ library in the house, i think i can just keep ALL my music which will be approx 40K songs in my NAS and simply dragg and drop to match, without reaching the limit.
does anyone else use a NAS with itunes as a media server. and does it impact on the limit of 25k

25K songs is the limit for iTunes Match. You can have more than that in the iTunes library, but only the first 25K scanned will be available via iTunes Match.

  • Is any user using NAS storage?

Is any user successfully using NAS storage such as synology connected to TC, (not for time machine or backups) mostly for placing your final edited movies, fotos and slides shows, so they can be viewed on the ipads, ipods?
    Thanks for any input

    Hello Yogesh,
Yes you can reset the password for any body using ABAP Code. But for that you really don't need any client number.
If this process is on regular basis, then recommended is to use BAPI for changing the user details Otherwise BDC also works fine.
    => Function Module - BAPI_USER_CHANGE
Call this in the program for resetting the password.
=> CALL TRANSACTION 'SU01' USING InternalTable
This will be executed in the BDC of SU01 transaction recording. Use the Password Change button in the application toolbar of transaction while recording.
    Hope this helps.
PS If the answer solves your query, plz close the thread by marking it solved and rewarding each reply.
