Windows no longer boots up, paging file error

I just reinstalled windows on my mac last week because until now I had been running the old beta version of boot camp.
Just a few days ago I started getting blue screens every so often and it happened again (twice to be exact) yesterday, however one of the times it booted up and informed me I might want to change my paging file size. Not quite sure what this was I went and found the paging file option in settings and found it was clicked on a set size...so I figured I'd set it on the option that lets windows decide for me hoping this would fix the blue screen problem.
I shut down my computer later that night and now windows won't get to the desktop.
When I start it up normally it runs the system check (which I cannot skip for some reason) which gets to 84% and then says \windows\Dump3865.tmp is cross-linked on allocation unit 1731772
Above it it mentions there is an invalid size for my page file.
I tried booting it up the in safe mode multiple times and every time it generates a list in dos and stops on windows\system32\Drivers\mup.sys
I really don't want to have to reload windows again. Is there anyway to skip the system check (it says press anykey, but that has never worked for me) or any other way to get my paging files back to the way they were?

My computer recently had a kernel panic, which apparently the corruption was in the system and needed to be erased and re-installed. I have a complete back-up using an external hard drive, and I am definitely not willing to do another one of those to reformat a partition that is already singular. I restarted the computer after ejecting my back-up, and after turning off time machine (thinking that boot camp was recognizing it as a secondary partition), however the error still occurs.
Is there any way to get around this?

Windows 8.1 Boot Camp Setup App Error

Hello All
FINALLY managed to get Win8.1 installed on boot camp, but came across a familiar issue (when I tried with Win7): driver setup isn't working in Win8.1
Win8.1 boots up fine, but i have 5 device drivers that didn't install properly:
Bluetooth USB Host Controller
Ethernet Controller
FaceTime HD Camera
Network Controller
PCI Simple Comm Controller
I've downloaded the file from Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640 (I'm using an early 2013 Macbook Pro Retina, 15"), and tried Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5621 as well, with no luck
When i click on the boot camp setup file E:/BootCamp/setup.exe (provided by either download in the links above), i get the error "This app can't run on your PC, to find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher"

Yes I have the same problem. I am using a Kingston USB 3.0 Windows-to-Go (TM) Certified 64GB storage device. I used Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 bit edition to format the device. I can boot my Macbook Pro Retina 15" Late 2013 using the USB 3.0 windows-to-go drive (using alt / option upon boot to select the USB device). Windows boots and after BitLocker will allow me to log in to the computer's desktop. I can navigate, clumsily (no right click support) to device manager and see there are no drivers installed for things like network card, bluetooth, important things, etc.
I download the 5.1.5640 Bootcamp drivers from this URL (Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640) and then unzip them to the root directory of a USB 2.0 drive.
I boot the Macbook using the USB 3.0 drive then mount the USB 2.0 drive with the downloaded Boot Camp drivers version 5.1.5640. I navigate to \BootCamp\Drivers\Apple\ and double-click on BootCamp.msi. I then receive a Windows 8.1 error dialog that reads "This app can't run on your PC. To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher". This is not a helpful error message.
What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to "trick" Windows into ignoring the "app can't run on my PC" check to unpack the files and allow me to at least try installing the drivers one-by-one?

Paging file error!

we have dev and qal on one server , we are unable to start dev and
qal simultaneously the error I am getting is the paging file. I have
increase the virtual memory but tht doesn't work.

the observation I have made is the dev is started and its working fine
the PF usage is 7.17GB when I am starting the qal server its the PF
usage reaches till 11.6GB and dispatcher get stopped. The Limit of the

Windows XP long booting

Hi fellas
I am having a small problem with my board lately, here is the deal.
I deside to add 2 WD Raptors 74GB on stripe raid 0 on my system make a total of 6 Hard Drives and 2 DVD Burners, but since I put the Raid function on I am having a boot delay about 2-3 minutes before the boot windows logo appears.
There is no conflicts and the hardwae detection is prety fast, but when its time for windows XP to boot, then I have to wait 2-3 minutes on blank screen until the moving bar of windows appear.
After that my computers flys and it rock stable, but if i have to reboot, something that windows require 2-3 time a day then its getting

Windows 7 not booting. Says File:\Boot\BCD error

HI, I have purchased a HP Pavilion DMZ1 XL303AV laptop. I had got it serviced from a HP service centre as it had suffered water spillage. The service centre replaced the entire motherboard. Now, the laptop suddenly stopped working. It gives an error message: File : \Boot\BCD; Status 0xc00000e9 ; Info: AN unexpected I/O error has occured. It says if you receive this error, please contact hardware manufacturer.
I donot have a Recovery CD for this model. HP did not provide. I donot remember creating a recovery USB drive for this (This model has no CD/DVD drive).
The machine is not working . Please help

I would strongly suggest that you contact HP Total care at 1-800-474-6836 or at this link if the number is outside your calling area. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html From what I can see from this error, you are going to need the recovery disks for the Windows operating system and you can get them from HP Total care. They will also be able to walk your through repairing your computer once you have the disks.

New partition & windows no longer boots

Hey all, up until now i have had 3 partitions on my drive - Snow leopard, General media and Windows 7. I decided to add a linux partition and made a new partition using disk utility. I boot up to the choose disk screen to install ubuntu to find that windows is no longer an option for boot up, so i deleted the new partition and it still won't boot into windows anymore.
How can i restore the booting function? Doing it with a linux partition too would be preferable but it isn't necessary.

Hi John,
A later done partitioning to add additional partitions to a harddisk alters the position of the BootCamp partition in the partition table so that the Windows Bootloader can not 'find' the Windows partition.
With Windows XP it helped to simply edit the Boot.Ini file and point it to the WIndows partition.
With Vista and Windows 7 there no longer is a boot.ini but EasyBCD http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 can do the same.
One thing to remember though is, that even Vista and Windows 7 'suffer' from the limitation of four partitions on one harddisk immenent to the Master Boot Record (MBR) since Apples EFI/GPT/MBR emulation can not handle Extended Partitions and Logical Partitions inside an Extended Partition.

No longer able to add files error

Using: Oracle Portal Version: 9.0.2.3.0
When trying to add a file (simple File, File, Image etc) my browser returns a 'page not found' error whilst searching for the following URL:

We've ran a few suggested scripts, changed a few of settings and rebooted it all but the error is still there.

Check out your error_log file in the $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/logs directory
There may be a problem with your tablespaces that store documents. It may have run of space and is not extending.
The log file should show which tablespace needs extending.
From memory this happened to us, and I had to increase
portal_tmp or portal_doc.

AE CS4 Is no longer importing my mpeg files - error 86: 1

Hello,
This is really weird. As of yesterday my HD mpeg files imported and played just fine in After Effects. Today I went to import a new clip (that I just captured in Premiere CS4) and it gave me error 86:1 saying it is an unsupported format, when it isn't.
I have over 20 AE projects that contain mpeg clips from my camera, none of these projects will open any of these clips as of today. Every project I open gives me error after error saying this clip and that clip are unsupported then it says the clips are missing footage. Yesterday everything was fine but today not so good.
Does anyone know what the hell is going on here?
I am on a Mac running the latest version of Leopard. I installed the 10.5.8 update a few days ago and these mpegs have opened in AE since then.So I am ruling that out
Other than that everything else has been normal. As I said, yesterday these mpeg clips were working fine. Now they are not.
any advice anyone can offer is appreciated.

well shortly after posting the same problem started happening with Premiere as well, except Premiere would tell me the pixel dimensions were to large on the footage (??1920x1080 too big)anyway, I uninstalled and then reinstalled both AE and Premiere and repaired my disk permissions again and everything is okay now. Wheeeeew. was praying I did not have to reinstall my os.

Boot camp sys file error

I have installed Windows using boot camp and it has been working fine for about a month now but one day I started up in Windows and it comes up with a blue screen with this on it

I checked the Windows drive for viruses and deleted them all
I tried repairing Windows by booting from the Windows XP disc and clicking repair

To remove the driver in XP, go to Start and click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
In Vista, follow Start >Control Panel > Programs and Features >Uninstall or Change a Program.
Either way, you'll get a list of installed software. From this list, select the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver, and click "Remove" or "Uninstall"
To reinstall this driver, point yourself to the following path on the Windows Support CD (part of the Leopard DVD or your original Install Disc 1 that came with your unit).
\Boot Camp\Drivers\Intel
If you have a 2006 model, run the Intel945?????Setup.exe program (where ????? is the name of your Windows version.
If you have a 2007 model or early 2008 model, run Intel965?????Setup.exe
You can also download a more current, albeit more generic driver from Intel's support site, but the Apple driver is safest.
If needed, download Boot Camp 2.1 from Apple to update the driver further.

Windows XP, will not load past blue error screen

Hi, been wondering for a while if anyone can help me...
My xp system will not load past the blue error screen which appears after the computer has shut down suddenly or improperly.
Regardless of what actions you choose to take (safe mode, most recent settings...etc) the system simply goes past the blue screen, onto the windows logo loading page, where the loading bar moves for around 10 seconds, before returning back to the blue loading page.
So far I have tried leaving the computer for as long as a month unused whilst I was abroad, removing the battery for various amounts of time, and leaving the computer running for as long as a day.
In the absence of a recovery disk, I have no idea how to get it back to form, and would welcome any hints or suggests, bearing in mind I am no computing genius (If you had'nt guessed). Preferably, without loosing my irreplacable pictures and videos stored on the hard drive, however that is only preferably,

i know what it's like to not able to boot even into safe mode command prompt.
In your case I would do either of below:
Download a bootable CD ISO called "HDD Regenerator" or [Hiren's BootCD|www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd] which includes many other great tools. Burn the ISO image onto CDR.
1. Use the HDD Regenerator to boot the PC and use it to scan the whole HardDrive from 0, it will scan and fix all the bad sectors which may cause Windows failing to boot as systems files are corrupted. You will be suprise how great this tool can fix bad sector HDs.
2. If above does not work, the the Hiren's BootCD to boot the PC, navigate to Symantec Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image to Clone you hard drive, you can use USB external harddrives.
Then you can rebuild the PC with second partition large enough to store the HardDisk-IMAGE, use Ghost Explorer/etc to restore your personal files.
I have been dealing with lots of this issues as well. Let me know if you need more help.

Arch & Windows 8 Dual Boot -- Windows Boot Loader loads grub-rescue

Arch works fine,but as it always happens Windows boot went down. Both OS are EFI.
Note that boot secure and fast boot were disabled for Windows 8.
I used os-prober, but did not fix anything; so, I removed it. I tried to hack things out using boot-repair from Ubuntu, but it requires a repository, grub-efi, from Ubuntu that Arch doesn't have.
I am trying to modify files in grub.d and grub.cfg and hopefully fix something.
Exact description:
- archgrub loads and shows 3 entries. Two for Arch that load the sys succesfully and one for Windows 8 that fails.
- When I try to execute Windows from grub, it brings me to a grub rescue>
and shows error /boot/grub/x86_64-efi/normal.mod not found
As far as I am concerned this .mod is from Linux, so I don't know why it is being called into Windows loading procedures.

Hi,
New to this forum, joined today in anticipation of trying an install of AL...For whatever this may be worth:
I have an HP Pavillion desktop that came with Windows 8 (now 8.1), & has, of course, a UEFI boot system. I tried earlier to install Ubuntu Studio (which I currently run) on the same disk as Windows (/dev/sda), I made (I believe) a huge mistake in trying to install as LVM/ext4... wiped out my Windows install & made the UEFI unavailable... I had to do a complete re-install of Windows (fortunately, I did the recommended system backup, using 4 DVD's!) so then I tried a (non LVM) install on an external usb 3.0, with the Grub 2 on the external disk (great access time, & it worked fine... IMO)...
One other item: as I have been trying to find the right flavor of Linux for my main purposes, I have been trying various distros. & having to try to learn to negotiate the UEFI, secure/legacy procedures (still learning)... As I was unsure of installing rEFind... I did down load the .iso, burn it to a CD...

& in legacy mode, found that simply putting it (rEFind CD into the CD/DVD player, which in the UEFI it is labeled something like HP/UEFI CD/DVD), & then launching it, rEFind worked for some other distros...that is, I was able to boot into my Linux distros, even bypassing Grub), as well as having the option of booting Windows. It may seem trivial that I say this (it maybe is), but I have not seen anywhere (I have scoured the internet rather well) this mentioned as a possibility (though it, of course, would not make such a good permanent solution, especially for computers like mine that have only one CD/DVD player).

MSI GT60-0NC Paging File Size Help!

I'm having issues with my laptop (http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT60-0NC.html#/?div=Overview) after messing with the paging file settings. I'm wondering what the default values are for this particular laptop.
I'm not sure what it was before I started messing with it, but after I changed it my benchmark for 3d renderings (architectural visualizations done through maxwell render) have dropped more than significantly.
While rendering, my physical memory usage is about 95%, my CPU usage is only 4% (which should be between 70-90%), and my Disk usage is 100%. Disk usage must be my problem, because when I check the resource monitor my the system is writing about 10,000,000 B/sec to the pagefile, while maxwell is reading about 13,000,000 B/sec from the pagefile. This read / write of the pagefile keeps my disk usage at 100% throughout the render.
If I allow windows to "automatically manage the paging file size for all drives," it allocates 12288 to drive C: (OS) and none to the other drive in the RAID. Displayed at the bottom is "Minimum allowed: 16 MB; Recommended: 5107 MB; Currently allocated: 12288 MB"
What started the problem is when I went to manually manage the pagefile myself, and moved the paging file to the other RAID drive (D:), and ever since I haven't been able to render properly. I'm trying to isolate my problem, and this is the only significant change I made to this system since it was able to render correctly, other than removing it's ability to hibernate.
Anyone have any advice? My first step was to allow windows to automatically control the pagefile again, and its back on the C drive, but the problem still persists. I also did a system restore to a date before I made these changes, and that didn't help either.

Update:

Slowdown was associated with the corrupt file causing me to hit the limit of my physical memory, which caused the major slowdown in reading/writing massive amounts of overflow to the pagefile.
That's great. Atleast you know what the problem was and know how to solve it next time!

File name in msdb.dbo.backupset no longer matches the actual file name on the storage media. Error 3013 Restore Database is terminating abnormally.

in this case a NETAPP NAS storage share. Example:
Mohave_backup_2014_03_14_233001_1158878.bak      (from NETAPP NAS filer)
Mohave_backup_2014_03_16_233001_4167237             (from MSDB.dbo.backupset), as you can see, the last 7 digits (chars) of the file name are different, although the date and time are identical. The
file names had previously been matching perfectly. The first occurance of this problem occured on 03/13/2014 at 5:00 AM MST. The error generated by the job was:

Thanks for your reply. Sorry, my bad. I inadvertently copied wrong [name] form the msdb.dbo.backupset. On 3/13 and 3/14, the two file names did not match. In trying to select another example to show you this morning, I found that the names are now matching!
What I was doing was to create dynamic t-sql to retrieve the latest prod backup of the database, and then restore it with move to the development server. This is an ad-hoc job that the developers can run by themselves whenever they require a refresh. Unfortunately,
we only keep 3 days worth of backups for these databases, so the original disk file I was trying to use to restore no longer exists. Researching the original error, one of the error descriptions was that the restore could not find the file requested.
I thought this very strange since I get the file name directly from the backupset table. Further research did indeed show that the file names were different, but unfortunately, I failed to save the details of the file names. Anyway, in looking for a new example
to show you this morning, I have found that the file names are indeed matching exactly again. If this error pops up again, I will be sure to save all details and re-post.

FreeBSD didn't install, i can no longer boot into Windows

I unsuccessfully installed FreeBSD and I can no longer boot into an OS from the HD. I attempted to install BSD onto the "G" drive below however the the install gave me some kind of storage error and I can no longer boot into Windows. While going through the BSD installation process I opted to NOT install a boot manager (I incorrectly assumed that this would leave my existing boot manager intact).
Here's how I was partitioned pre-FreeBSD (these are all partitions on the same SATA 80GB drive):
C:\ Windows ME
D:\ Windows XP sp1a
E:\ Windows XP-64 beta
F:\ Longhorn 64 preview
[G]:\ unpartitioned 4GB
[F]:\ uformatted 4GB
H:\ NTFS Storage
I:\ FAT32 Storage
Before I attempted to install BSD, I used c:\boot.ini as my boot manager.
Now when I try to boot it says:

Has anyone else ever had this happen to them? If so how can I reenable booting into Windows?

You got a prob I think, if you can boot a windows, MSconfig, startup options might restore the boot files.Only other thing is to try and either load a new windows and let it setup a boot file, or perhaps a win98 startup disk, and fdisk, then set active partiton, which will set an MBR. But that would leave a load of work to do, I think I'd opt for an install of XP, and let it repair existing installation, and make a new boot file.
Hope you don't need the info on disks. If you do, I would install another HDD, load XP, then copy original Disk to save place.
