Windows not configuring updates
I have a Lenovo H520s which would not configure windows 8 updates.
Solution: Uninstall Nitro pdf software which is preinstalled as a trial. You can download Adobe which is free.
Also my Lenovo would not run my office word 2007 CD. Solution: Uninstall the preinstalled trial software ( which is only entitled 'office' in the prpgramme list). Once you have got rid of this trial programme (I think it's office 2010) you can run the office word you already have.
Hi,
You can try the steps from this link:
Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset
If problem continues then..
Try tapping Esc or F11 as soon as you turn it on Or follow the instructions to first perform System restore and then Recovery..
Restore your computer when Windows 8 cannot start normally
If the notebook boots at any time then perform these steps:
Open/Run Command prompt as an Administrator
Type the following commands.
exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth (Note - This command take atleast 20 to 30 minutes of time to complete)
exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
**Click on “Kudos” Star if you think this reply helped** Or Mark it as "Solved" if issue got fixed.

Tabs only open in a new window. Ctl T opens a new window NOT a new tab help-last update this problem started 2 days ago. How do I set FF back to open tabs in 1 window?
There is no plus sign and going into optins and changing settings has not worked. I have uninstall FF and reinstall-keeping my personalization-and that was no help.
Right clicking on FF Icon to open a new tab, or going up to FF drop down tab and clicking on new tab both do not work.
Help everything opens a new window not a new tab. there seems to be no way to reset this or to chose a different optin. I just downloaded new tabs at end addon and it didn't do a thing.as a first troubleshooting step - does it work like normally when you open & run firefox in [[Safe Mode|safemode]] by pressing the shift key while you open firefox (all other instances have to be closed before)...

Before updating software (10.6.8), in Mail, clicking a message in the inbox caused the message to appear in its own separate window-- not just in the pane below the inbox. I'm not sure why this function is no longer available. I guess I could delete Preferences (where?) and see if that does it. Any ideas?
Thanks,
NickBefore updating software (10.6.8), in Mail, clicking a message in the inbox caused the message to appear in its own separate window-- not just in the pane below the inbox.
Uh…no it didn't. Double-clicking a message would open it in a new window. Regardless of whether you have the message pane visible, you still have to double-click the message if you want it to open in it's own message window.
I guess I could delete Preferences (where?) and see if that does it.
No, you can't do that; not unless you want to say bye-bye to all your email. Don't even think about messing around with things unless you know what you're doing, and the consequences. -

Windows 2008 R2 Server not showing update history and not detecting new updates
Hi Sirs,
We have a Windows 2008 R2 server which is showing an empty windows update history, and is not detecting new updates from the WSUS server. It says that the windows is up to date, no error when trying to detect new updates, but I doubt it because when I checked
the installed updates menu, it shows that that the most recent update date installed was last 2013, it just stop detecting and installing updates. I've already tried the ff workarounds but to no avail:
1. restart wuauserv and bits service
2. rename/delete the software distribution folder
3. reinstalled the update agent/restarted the server
4. deleted the susclientid on the registry
Thanks in advanced for your help.

Firefox not working on Windows 8.1 after update to 32.0
For the last three versions 30.0, 31.0, and 32.0 Firefox will not work after updating on my Windows 8.1 laptop. I have tried resetting Firefox to default state, uninstalling and reinstalling, and resetting my TCP/IP stack (which usually fixes the problem). I also have gone to Internet Options in IE 11 and unchecked the automatically detect settings under the LAN connection options and then rechecked it without success. I also have Chrome installed on my machine as a check to see if it lies within the browser or my internet connection.
Internet Explorer 11 is the only browser that works so something seems to be amiss in Firefox.Hello kschmit05, any luck in you boot the computer in [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows Safe mode with network support], select in the Startup Settings screen > Enable Safe Mode with Networking.
thank you -
Hi
I just want to report this bug in hope it will be fixed asap
The wheel click button does not open a new window since the latest update (9.0.1)
Thank youMiddle-click or click the scroll-wheel on a hyperlink has always opened a '''new Tab'''. Any chance you had an add-on that changed that action, and now that add-on is disabled or incompatible?

Reader will not automatically install updates on Windows 7
I have looked through the forums and have not seen this exact symptom mentioned:
"Automatically install updates" does not seem to work correctly on Windows 7. The updates download and I see the "update is ready to install" bubble in the system tray repeatedly. However, the updates never seem to install. I've seen this on more than one Windows 7 machine (it works ok on XP). I suppose this could be something particular to our environment, but I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to look next. Leaving the system "idle" does not seem to help and the behavior does persist after a reboot.
(I'm running Process Monitor right now and see AdobeARM.exe occasionally and successfully creating and exiting a thread, but not touching any files or registry entries.)
I enabled this setting via the registry -
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe ARM\1.0\ARM]
"iCheck"=dword:00000003
- and can see in the GUI that it has taken effect.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks - AndySome additional information. I'm seeing "GetLastError(): 0x2 - The system cannot find the file specified" in c:\users\(me)\appdata\local\temp\AdobeARM.log. But even using Process Monitor, it's not clear to me which file cannot be found.
Still seems to me that updater is downloading the update but never trying to apply it. The most recent thing I have tried is to quit AdobeARM gracefully and restart it. That does seem to have reduced the number of subdirectories in C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Reader\9.3\ARM\ to only one (previously there had been one subdirectory per run).
Thanks for any suggestions -

Windows 7 PC's not pulling down updates as per GPO
Good Morning All,
I would really appreciate some help.
I am seeing that most of my Windows 7 Client PC's are not pulling down updates from our Windows 2012 with WSUS Version: 6.2.9200.16384.
All PC's are in a security group called User_Windows-7 and have a the WSUS GPO linked to that, below are my WSUS settings:
As you can see I have specified the WSUS server for the clients to see VIA IP with the port number for WSUS (I read this was recommended - Can this be confirmed)
Many thanks for anyone reading and contributing.Event ID 364
Content file download failed. Reason: Value does not fall within the expected range.
Apparently something is not allowing traffic through. How did you determine it's not your proxy server?
Destination File: C:\Program Files\Update Services\WsusContent\E2\FADD04672988799783BBE6700E429C138454C3E2.cab.
Also... why is the content store in the %ProgramFiles% folder tree?
Regarding this comment in an earlier post:
(This is the first time I've installed WSUS so wasn't 100% on how it worked).
May I be so impertinent as to suggest that it might be worth your while to open up the
product documentation and actually learn how the product works?

Some computers download and install the two approved updates, others only download Windows Update Agent and not the approved updates.

Hi I m not able to update my iPad 2 to iOS 5. I am using windows OS, when I Connect my IPad to laptop, I tunes detects and ask for updating to iOS 5. But after some time it shows a error message saying network connection timed out and try after some time. This error message occurs every time I update. Please help me to update my iPad 2
ThanksClose your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes, sync and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Windows 7 will not let me update the driver for my iphone 4s so I can see it in iTunes. Any suggestions?
You turned off all firewall and antivirus ? You could try downloading the update via a browser - what device are your trying to download the update for ? If it's an iPhone 4 :
GSM / sim card model
CDMA model
Then in iTunes press and hold the shift key on Windows when clicking the Check For Updates button which should let you navigate to the downloaded file -
Hello, I am not able to download itunes 10.5 on my dell laptop. It says to try to download separately and then install. However, an error message still comes up. Due to this, I am not able to update any applications. I am using windows vista. If I reinstall itunes entirely, will I loose my many playlists that I have? And will this effect the same playlist that I have on my ipod???
Installing, and uninstalling, applications never touches or removes the data.
Clean out and uninstall all the apple programs and software thru Programs and manually.
Might want to use Revo and CCleaner
I always use manual standalone installers (and keep a couple backup versions)
itunes 10.5 may affect iTunes media playlists, not sure, depends on what you have.
A search of these forums will show some threads.
I'd clean up vista, you need SP2 or later, and specific error message?
I wonder as you arenot the first with a dell if maybe the OS or included software.
Security programs like Norton and older versions of Kaspersky have been implicated.
Also settings in IE that affect pop-ups and plug-ins. -
F5 is not working after update of windows 8.
f5 is not working after update of windows 8 in my laptop. Rest of the function keys are working.
my laptop details are
Product Name: HP Pavilion 15-e008tu Notebook PCHello prem23,
What did the F5 key do before? According to your manual in the Action Keys list (page 32-33), that key wasn't tied to anything unless its just for page refresh.
If a Windows update breaks something, the best way I know to correct the problem is to uninstall that update.
OR
You can revert Windows back to an earlier state before the update with a Restore Point provided you didn't turn off that feature. If for some reason it is turned off, you will not be able to revert to that point as one was not created.
After the restore, only install one windows update at a time until you find the culprit and uninstall it. This way you have the other updates installed. YES this can be a long process.

I recently purchased a new labtop a few weeks ago and it came installed with windows 8. I updated the next day to windows 8.1. I then installed itunes and my iPod 5th generation and iPhone 5 were working fine. I then updated to the latest itunes. When I plugged my iPod in, I received a message that my iPod was detected on windows but could not be identified properly. The same thing applies to my iPhone 5. I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 3 times, restarted my labtop several times. I have followed most of the advice on these forums and I'm stuck. Nothing is happening. If i plug in my ipod, nothing. If i plug in my iphone nothing. Please help me
Hello there, jlynn84.
The following Knowledge Base articles provides great pointers for troubleshooting the issues your describing:
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538
If troubleshooting takes you to the point of uninstalling iTunes, those steps have to be performed in a very particular way for the step to work:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,
Pedro.
