Windows-- not enough free disk space

Hi umm i have a dell and everytime i try to convret a song it says that there is not enough free disk space? is there anything i can do about that because it relates to my whole computer like when i try to put more picture on my computer it also says that error i was just wondering if theres a way to fix that because i have deleted every program and folder that i dont need on my computer so im not sure what to do next please help!!

Go to My Computer, hold your cursor over your hard drive(s) it should tell you the remaining free space. If it is less than 500 MB you should definitely delete some big files; i.e. videos, movies, and maybe music and pictures. It sounds like you can't find any big files to delete so just do a search for 'All files and folders' that are larger than say 100 MB. Then just delete what you don't need.

SMB errors copying from Windows Mac serv - "Not Enough Free Disk Space"

Mac OS X 10.5.5 server with 4TB usable internal space (RAID5 volume) shared out via SMB so that windows workstations (XP Pro SP3) on local subnet can mount them.
when copying files from internal drives on workstations to SMB share on the Mac fileserver, I get no problems. When copying files from external (USB 2.0) drives from workstation to server, i get constant errors of:
"Cannot copy x: There is not enough free disk space. Delete one or more files to free disk space, and then try again."
I've tried all different combinations of SMB settings with permissions and opt locks etc, but so far found nothing that works.
Anyone run into this and resolved it?

UPdate Update... after turning logging to high, i've found the following error in my SMB logs upon copying one of the seemingly random files (I can now make the error happen by copying the same file that caused the error)

Windows SMB Clients getting not enough free disk space copying error

I have searched and read most of the related topics in the forums, but no one seems to have a solution to this issue.
I am running OS X Leopard Server 10.5.4 and have several clients connecting via VPN to access file sharing.
The Macs use L2TP for the VPN, Windows uses PPTP. Everyone can connect and see the files on the server.
The mac clients connect and share the same folders via AFP. They have no trouble copying files to the server.
The windows clients connect and share via SMB. They repeatedly get an error while trying to copy files to the server.
Here is the error message:
"Error Copying File or Folder
Cannot copy FileName: There is not enough free disk space.
Delete one or more files to free disk space, and then try again."
So we have tried different files, different folders, but no matter what we do the copying fails from windows to the server. The server has 570 GB free - Only 20 gigs used.
I have removed the acl permissions, added them back in via server admin, and still have the problem. Windows clients are running XP SP 2 and the macs are 10.5.3 and 10.5.4.
Does anyone have a solution? Should we roll back to 10.4 Server?

From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Time Machine
If there is a closed padlock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane, click it to unlock the settings and authenticate. Turn Time Machine OFF, then back ON. Close the window.
Restart the computer. Try the download again.

Safari could not download the file -there is not enough free disk space

I've tried downloading Windows Media Viewer, StuffIt Expander, and Adobe Reader however when I do I receive an error message as follows (example is for the StuffIt Expander -similar message for the other programs): Safari could not download the file "nstuffitexp12.01.dmg" because there is not enough free disk space.
There is PLENTY of free disk space on my hard drive. The hard drive has 20 GB of Used space and 129 GB of Available space.
A few simple fixes I've tried, that did not help: I cleared my Cache, I emptied my Trash, I restarted the computer. (sorry, I'm a Mac novice -not sure what else to try)
What's wrong? How do I download these files??
I would like to open Window Media Viewer files (.wmv) and Adobe Reader files (.pdf) so I need these programs on my computer.
So as a secondary question, is there a program for Macs better suited to open and view .wmv and .pdf files?

Mac OS X can open pdf files fine without Adobe's bloatware, they open by default in TextEdit - the whole of OS X's display system is actually based around pdf technology so it's easy for the system to integrate pdf tools. There are alternative tools available on MacUpdate but for reading TextEdit is fine.
wmv files should be opened with the Flip4Mac Quicktime plugin, Microsoft no longer support their own player on Mac and even supply the F4M plugin from their own download pages.
For Stuffit files (which are thankfully much rarer these days) I'd use The Unarchiver instead of Allume's fat cat.
To fix the other problem you could try changing your download location in Safari preferences, General - it may be that the location you are downloading to has the problem. You can pick anywhere you like just to test it out.

"Not Enough Free Disk Space" error message, but Finder shows plenty of disk space available

Apologies if this is a double post, but I have been searching all over and can't seem to find this issue in the forums.
I have a 256GB Macbook with a fresh copy of Lion installed, am going through the process of migrating files back over, after which I have approximately 125GB free. However, whenever I go online and try to download any type of file (PDF, sofware install files, etc.), an error message displays saying:
Safari could not download the file “blahblahblah.dmg” because there is not enough free disk space.
Not sure how this is possible since the .dmg file is 18MB and Finder is saying there is over 125GB free. I've tried repairing disk permissions, booting off the Lion recovery disk and repairing the startup disk, all to no avail. Anyone had this issue before?

Thanks for the suggestion. That wasn't the problem, but your suggestion did shed light on something else. I was able to perform a right-click action and Save File As... to my Documents folder. On further analysis, it appears that the "Macintosh HD", Downloads folder, and Desktop are showing the "pencil with a line through it" icon in the bottom left of the Finder window, which would suggest those areas are read-only for some reason.
My user account is the only one on the machine and it's an admin account. Any guesses as to why that might have set itself that way, or any suggestions on how to change it? I've already tried repairing permissions on the startup disk in Disk Utility.

Issue 2: Not enough free disk space

Well, now that I'm here, I will try to figure out all my problems.
Ignoring the fact that my MacBook won't turn on, once it goes back to normal, I hope I can solve another thing. Two or three times, while I've been working in heavey Word documents in my Macbook, a message box appears when I click on save or when it tries to do "Autorecovery". It says there's not enough free disk space for me to save that file. What I do every time is I select all, then copy and then quit word. I open it again, paste and save. Everything is fine, but I'd really like to know *** is wrong since I do have a lot of free disk space and this doesn't happen unless it's a heavy file in word. Should I get rid of some apps? Unused files? I don't have that many... I think my Macbook is acting weird since I've almost got nothing stored in it but files, pictures and songs. Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening again?

Get Info on your hard drive or open a finder window and see how much space is available on your drive - that's at the bottom. Music, pictures, movies use more disk space than most files. You might have enough space sometimes because various programs - like Safari - cache material and the caches can get large. Some caches empty themselves and others need to be emptied; you can empty the Safari cache from one of the menus.

I am having trouble exporting a sizable photo album slideshow from iPhoto to a flash drive.
I have spent countless hours captioning some 3000 family photos into about 20 albums. The number of photos in albums ranges from 20 to 295.
I've been successful in exporting each album slideshow to a 16gb flash drive except for the two largest ones, with 232 (351mb) and 295 photos (555mb). For these two, I get a very quick error message "not enough free disk space. Free up space on the disk and try again." There is plenty of space on my 16gb flash drive, and my desktop has more than 440gb free space out of 495 total.
I've tried updating iPhoto to v. 9.1 without success. Is this an iPhoto issue? I'd rather not switch to iLife and have to pay for it.
I am very average at systems stuff, so please make your suggestions in language I can understand! Any ideas are welcome and appreciated!

How did you arrive at the numbers you got for available space? Some things are not counted in the amount of space depending on what you did (like local Time Machine snapshots, etc) and some things are. I use the "df -kt" (shows everything in KBytes - use "-mt" if you prefer to see the numbers in Mbytes or "-gt" to see in GBytes) command in a Terminal window to list the total size, amount used, amount free for all mounted volumes.
Do you have "Read&Write" permissions on the disk you're trying to save to? Perhaps there are some "hidden" folders taking up a lot of space?

When attempting to burn a 1.2GB video using Magic DVD I get Burning Prep error. Not enough free disk space...... I have tried all I know to no avail. This have just started!!

Yes, 44GB is sufficient. I don't think space is the problem. I don't know about iMovie but iDVD can only use the boot drive for its scratch disk.
You might be getting that error due to some damage file in the project.
Try this basic troubleshooting fix :
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.

3 - launch IDVD and try again.
Also run Disk Utility and verify the disk. If errors are indicated you will need to boot iknto your system install disk and repair the disk with Disk Utility (see the Utilities menu in the first window after the language selection window).

Safari unable to download the file.. not enough free disk space?

Very odd! After filling out Apple's Online Rebate Submission Completion Form, I was asked to print it out by clicking on the supplied link, but instead, I got this prompt:
Safari could not download the file because there is not enough free disk space!
Of course, this is totally ludicrous because I just bought this computer and it has a 500 Gb hard drive!
Any idea what's going on?

Tried using Firefox instead of Safari. The prompt I got in this instance ultimately had to do with changing the permissions on my download folder? Odd.
When I tried to add myself (as the administrator) to the list, the info window crashed. When I clicked on "everyone" and changed permissions to read and write (instead of just read), I was able to download the form as a pdf.

Synchronizing media when not enough free disk space on iDevices.

I have a sixth generation iPod Nano (8 GB). I have over 10 GB of music, but obviously, they won't all fit onto this iPod Nano I got for free for Christmas 2012. 32-bit Windows XP Pro. SP3's iTunes said there was not enough free disk space and asked me if I wanted it to do a selection. Is this randomized for each sync(hronization) and for all iDevices in both Windows and Mac OS X?

2335dn MFP - "Not enough free disk space"

Hi all,
I'm having an issue with a client's Dell 2335dn MFP printer. When scanning multiple pages, I receive the error message "There is not enough free disk space...", however when scanning just a single page, it goes in just fine. This message is generated by the print software, it is not a Windows error. I have over 250GB free on the C: drive and close to 6,000MB page file. Has anyone seen this issue before or have any insight? Thanks in advance.

If you can't free up enough space by deleting items, get an external hard drive and move the files there. An absolute minimum of 25 GB is required by iDVD.

"Not Enough Free Disk Space" on exporting slideshows

I have about 100GB of free space on my HD and Iphoto 8.1.1 is now showing "Not Enough Free Disk Space" when I try to export a slideshow. Anyone had this kind of problem? Any idea how to solve this?

Some basic fixes to try:
Repair Permissions with Disk Utility
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
*What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

That misleading error message can be the result of moving a download while it's in progress. Right-click the download package and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. The file you downloaded may be in the folder that opens.

"not enough free disk space" when I try to download Skype or ooVoo

My downloads were working perfectly fine a few days ago. Then one day I closed my Macbook to sleep and when I opened it all my settings had been reset, my background was gone, everything in iTunes was deleted, and my Skype and ooVoo had been deleted.
Now when I try to re-download it, it tells me "Not enough free disk space"
My Hardrive space has about 85GB. Can someone help me troubleshoot?
