Windows not scaling dpiAware programs correctly on high DPI screens

I just upgraded to a new notebook with a high dpi screen (3200x1800)..
In the standard desktop (not modern), several programs do not display correctly- specifically Adobe programs, Sony Vegas, Sorenson Squeeze, etc..
The type and fonts for the menus etc are scaled properly, but the UI icons are extremely tiny.
See here.. The red boxed areas are what size the icons SHOULD be:
http://tinypic.com/r/nb82l5/8
If I edit the manifest for each .exe and change
dpiAware to FALSE, everything scales fine but is blurry (sections inside red box from link above)
If dpiAware is already true in the program, why isn't windows scaling the program interface icons correctly?

Hi,
Please check and uncheck the following option to see the result.
Also, please use a external display device to test it.

  • Windows not scaling dpiAware programs on 3200 x 1800 screen

    Hello,
I just bought a Dell XPS 15 laptop with Windows 8.1. This laptop has an extremely high resolution which resulted in being something negative as many programs don't run properly on it. The programs I am talking about are: VLC, FL studio, Adobe and more. The
control buttons are all tiny and impossible to work with.
I have read that "programs report to Windows via their manifests that they are high dpi aware, while
    they really are not (yet)."
I have tried everything in the setting and researched online, but couldn't find anything.
    Thanks in advance

I have read that "programs report to Windows via their manifests that they are high dpi aware, while they really are
    not (yet)."
    That's exactly it.
Windows can automatically scale an application that's not high dpi aware, and it works (though UI elements can sometimes look fuzzy if done this way).
Or Windows can be told by the application (via its manifest) that the application itself will take care of whatever scaling is needed, in which case Windows will NOT scale it.
I suspect that this is what's happening for the applications you mentioned.
Adobe Photoshop is an application, for example, that tells Windows it's high dpi-aware, even though it's not got a full internal scaling capability.  The latest releases of Photoshop CC 2014 DO have a partial ability now to scale only to 200%,
and you have to set a preference in its Experimental Features panel to get it.
Hope this helps with your understanding.

  • Windows not opening Adobe programs

    Can anyone please help
Today my laptop stopped opening Adobe programs, all Adobe programs!
When I click a desktop shortcut for, say READER it get a dialogue box with the following message:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe
    then under that :
Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe', make sure you typed name correctly and then try again.
It's driving me mad, cannot open any .pdf files or in Photoshop and pictures.
There are no such problems with ANY OTHER programs.
I have uninstalled all Adobe programs, then re-installed them and also done a system restore.  NO CHANGE
    Can anyone help me please?

    Hi fishprinter,
May i know which application of Adobe you have, do you have Creative suite or creative cloud.
Since you have tried already uninstalling and reinstalling, I would suggest you should uninstall again using cleaner tools: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html Acrobat/Reader cleaner Tool: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then create a new user profile on your computer and reinstall Application again and check. Also i would suggest uninstall your security software and reinstall it back.

  • Firefox ignores Windows 8's compatability setting for high dpi screens.

I recently tried the Windows 8.1 Preview, but then reset my machine to Windows 8 again.
Before this, the first time I installed Firefox, it ran at a low resolution, so all the toolbars and content appeared huge and blurry. I fixed this with the Windows 8 compatibility setting disable display scaling on high DPI settings"
After resetting the machine, and installing Firefox again, it was back to being blurry, so I changed the compatibility setting again, but this time, nothing happened. Even with the setting on, Firefox ignores it. Every other program with this setting works fine, and Firefox worked fine the last time around.
I was advised in the Windows support forums to ask the question here.

You can modify the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx and increase or decrease the value in 0.1 or 0.05 steps to adjust the size of fonts and other elements in Firefox.
*The layout.css.devPixelsPerPx pref is a String value parsed to a float and allows to fine tune the dimensions of all elements (user interface and web pages) more precisely (resolution 0.1 or 0.05).
*Change the default value -1 to 1 to make it work like in previous Firefox versions (100%)
Start with a value of 1 and adjust this value with 0.1 steps or 0.05 for finer adjustments.
*Use values between 1.0 and about 0.5 to reduce elements in size (do NOT go all the way to 0.05!)
*Use values greater than 1.0 to magnify and make elements larger (percentage divided by DPI, % / DPI).
If web pages needs to be adjusted after changing this pref then you can look at the Default FullZoom Level or NoSquint extension.
    *Default FullZoom Level: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/
    *NoSquint: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/
Use this extension to adjust the font size for the user interface:
*Theme Font & Size Changer: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/theme-font-size-changer/

  • Right side menu too small font size of letters in Windows 8.1 High DPI screen

Hi, I just own a new laptop with Windows 8.1 and high resolution screen.
When I start Adobe Reader, the document area seems to be readable, with "normal size fonts", but the options menú in the right side uses a very small fonts size and is hardly readable.
I tried to change it using the Windows "change menu, title, icons size, but withpout success.
    Any solution for it?
By the way, in a Lenovo Ideapad U430 Touch, there is not "magnyfying glass" combination key and the zoom function of the touch screen doesn't work either in that right side menu área (it works in the document area, not in the right side menu area).
    Any help will be welcomed.
    Thanks.
    Javier

    Hi, Pat, test done.
Thanks for your suggestion, it was somehow helpful, or, let say, half and half.
It was helpful in the way that when I opened the preferences Windows I was not able to see the full window, there was a part of the right side of the window that was out of the screen. So, when I changed the "scaling settings options and behaviour" from "Auto" (default value) to 100% everything was in the display.... So, this was of high help.
BUT I was not able to find any way in all the suggested document for making the fonts used in the right window of the Adobe Reader, the one where the "Tools" and "Comments" menus are displayed more readable, bigger size, than the one that the product uses by default in the High DPI display.
So, thanks for the suggested document that helped to solve the first point.
    BUT
Any other idea that could help for changing the fonts used in the "Tools" or "Comments" menu window?
    Thanks and kind regards.

  • Support for High-DPI screens Windows

This was posted two months ago by someone else, but I feel that it is too important to be ignored. I have a QHD resolution Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro laptop, and I use Spotify almost constantly. However, I almost never use the desktop app; with DPI scaling, the scaling is fine, but the resolution is horrrible. With my display, I would hope for 1080p resolution (at least), but apparently it will never happen. My question is: is it possible for the Spotify developers to create a Windows program with high DPI support? Or maybe a Windows 8 app? Pretty please?

    Hi there,
I guess you are talking about this idea, I do agree that this idea is very important.
As soon as an idea reaches 100 kudos it will reach the spotify team and they will change the status. To learn more about the processing of ideas read this post "How your feedback reaches Spotify"
If would suggest to add your kudos and support in that idea, and keep sharing it on sites like Facebook, Twitter...

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements on high dpi screen

Using Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro with Adobe Photoshop Elements is not possible. The beautiful 3200 x 1800 dpi screen makes Elements unreadable. Adobe, we are in 2014, when will you fix this?

  • Teeny tiny panels on high-dpi screen~

    Hi there~
So I've got a series of programs in the CS that are coming in at different sizes than 'readable' and Muse is one of them.
Photoshop had a User Interface option button that was able to fix its exactly similar problem of coming in at a remarkably tiny size, but now I need that button in Muse as well.
Yup, new computer, running Win8.1 on a Dell Precision M3800 (very happy with it) but it is super-precise with its bits and a few things fall in badly as a result.
This is one.  Can you help me figure out how to get the User Interface in Muse to create larger panel headings?
I've already enlarged the same from the computer itself, going any further would through the rest out of whack. At this point is has to be a Muse-centered shift.
And again, the Photoshop fix was through the Preferences->...>experimental->enlarge to 200% and it worked like a charm.
The same is still an issue in Bridge and Fireworks in case you have extra awareness.
    Your help is appreciated! Thanks!

  • Why is the viewport markup not scaling my site correctly for mobile device?

Firstly, thank you in advance for taking the time to look into my comment/question/issue.
Secondly, I have ran the validation with WC3 but have not had a moment to edit and update the corrections. Hoping that will fix the (other) issue I have with the light box not working correctly.
O.k. on to the primary issue... simply put, when viewing on my (and checking on other's devices), my site doesn't scale correctly to the viewport. Sometimes it scales correctly, but you can "pinch" the screen to zoom out and the site scales down and justifies left.
Any thoughts as to what I have missed here?

    thank you again!

Aside from the lightbox issues I am having, I was able to get the code cleaned up.
Issue still exist after some more tinkering. Code responds, and loads to the browser size correctly. However, you can re-size on a mobile device and it backs all the way out to about 50%, and justifies left side of the browser.
I've never ran into this type of issue before. But this is the first time I've integrated it with a site I've built from the ground up based on the Bootstrap framework.
All other times, framework and meta tag were already applied and no issues arose.

  • Traditional app and high DPI screen problem, AGAIN!!

Unbelievable, the modern apps in windows 10 are discontinued and all problems with QHD display are back. All modern apps worked perfectly with high resolution display. If Microsoft can not handle QHD display so why force everyone to buy pre-installed windows on every machine? It is totally unacceptable, when I wanted to buy my Dell XPS 13(2015), both Dell and Microsoft website announce it as FULL COMPATIBLE with windows. I can not enjoy my LCD anymore, I can deal with third-party apps like Viber and Spotify with blurry font or really tiny icons but it is not acceptable for an official Microsoft product. I could buy a Macbook at this price!!!

    Solved problem by,
Project Options > Debug > Enable the Visual Studio hosting process(disable it run app later enable it again)
fixes mine, i don't know why gives error like this but this solves my problem :)

You should propose your post as the answer to end this thread.
Although when you altered the apps manifest did you clean and rebuild the app or clean and build the app to see if that corrected the issue?

  • My User Interface is super small~ (high dpi screen)

Hi, so I've got an answer to the problem which surfaced in Photoshop as well as a few others,
~ in the Photoshop settings, _>experimental... UI to 200%.
But Fireworks is still super tiny~
    Simply can't see it.
    Working on a Dell Precision M3800, Win8.1
Good sizing: AI, PS, ID, and more
    Super tiny: FW, BR, MU
I hope someone has an answer ~ Maybe an update that is similar to what was created for Photoshop?
    Thanks in advance!

No, unfortunately retina updates for Fireworks are never going to happen - it is a discontinued product (although it is still available) that will no longer receive any updates (since May 2013).

  • High DPI Plans?

I just bought a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro which has a sexy 3200x1800 13.3 inch screen. I loaded up AE, because obviously that's the first thing you use to test a new computer out, to be greeted with the most microscopic interface I've ever seen. As much as i like playing find-the-parameter with 2-point font, it brings up a big question for me: Does Adobe have any plans to add support for high-DPI screens on PC anytime soon? I can run at a lower resolution for now, but I know I'm not the only one wondering this, and I haven't been able to find anything about it, so I thought I'd ask.

The current target for HiDPI viewers on Windows is sometime next year (probably the second half of next year). That's a rough estimate, though. We just added this functionality for Mac OS in After Effects CC (12.1).

You may select how and whether Firefox updates, although like most software it may be sensible to keep it up-to-date, it is more likely to remain secure and compatible with other software whilst up to date.
