Windows often undergoes unexpected shutdown during work!!
I was using windows xp for 2 years with just 1GB RAM and i upgraded it to windows 7. Since then i am not able to work consistently since my windows is shutting down half way at random. Then i upgraded my RAM to one more GigaBytes. Still my problem
exist. ALso i am not sure whether it is because of absence of ups since the time i upgraded. I also tried for so many solutions yet nothing worked with my pc..
Hi!
Unexpected shutdowns can be linked many different things, are you doing something specific at the time, for example using applications that require a lot of CPU or RAM?
In most cases it's linked to the CPU becoming to hot or a faulty RAM module.
Open up the event viewer and browse to "System"
Are there any errors at the time of the computer rebooting?

Image creation with MDT task sequence- "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown"
I'm using MDT 2012 U1 to build and capture a Windows 7 x86 image for deployment with ConfigMgr 2012 SP1. I'm using the standard client task sequence in MDT.
The MDT task sequence consistently fails after the reboot in the "Postinstall" group. The install OS, Copy Scripts, Configure, Inject Drivers, Next Phase, and Restart Computer tasks all execute successfully, then the MDT-initiated reboot
completes successfully. There is nothing else helpful in the SMSTS.LOG, these are the last entries in the log:
Successfully complete the action (Restart Computer) with the exit win32 code 0
Sending status message
Executing in non SMS standalone mode. Ignoring send a task execution status message request
Set a global environment variable _SMSTSLastActionRetCode=0
Set a global environment variable _SMSTSLastActionSucceeded=true
Expand a string %_SMSTSMDataPath%\Logs
Deleting file without retrying
The error message on the reference computer says, "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" along with "An existing in-progress deployment was found but is not in an expected state. Would you like to ignore this in-progress
deployment and start a new one?"
I have found one post that suggested modifying customsettings.ini with HideShell=Yes, which I tried. It didn't help.
I am not sure why MDT thinks the reboot was unexpected? Has anybody run into this? What steps can I take to narrow down the problem?
Any help/suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
FPThanks for your reply Phil.
Setuperr.log is empty, zero bytes. Setupact.log looks good to me, it has these entries at the end:
OrchestrateUpdateImageState: Updating image state from [IMAGE_STATE_UNDEPLOYABLE] --> [Image_State_Complete]
OOBELdr.exe exiting with code [0x0]...
Process exited with exit code [0x0]
c:\windows\panther\SetupInfo succeeded.
c:\windows\panther\setupinfo.
Windeploy.exe exiting with code [0x0]
SetupSQM Started
Panther path is C:\windows\Panther
SQM not opted in
SetupSQM is finished
Our image environment was created during an MCS Engagement, so we have the solution pack and there are many variables in customsettings.ini. I will need to find out how to narrow this down but I'm not finding a log file that tells me where it's choking...
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,

I installed the CC trial with an error window saying: Could not create the file '/Users/dranim/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.2/dummy'. That was the first window. Heres the second: After Effects can’t continue: unexpected failure during application startup I paid for the month subscription of 29.99. It claims it is downloading again?! Am I missing something here? Why is this process so complicated? I need to get this resolved asap and start working.
I originally had Adobe Photoshop Extended, then upgraded to the Production Suite. I ran the Adobe Cleaner, and that uninstalled most Adobe products, including my existing Adobe install, and then I re-installed everything with the same error code. Since CS4 came with CS5, I've installed AE CS4, but would really like to upgrade because I'm new to Creative Suite, and not sure how CS4 integrates with CS5...CS4 After Effects installed perfectly. I do have a 64 bit system, and installing to an OCZ Vertex 2....every other suite installs perfectly, except AE. And I think that is the coolest program in the Suite. I thank you all so much for taking the time to help, I really want to get AECS5 running...I did try to install after doing the recommended items Adobe suggests for Exit Codes 6 and 7, including turning off many startups...
I'm baffled....

Windows 8 resets unexpectedly during idle (no minidump)
I've upgraded one of my computers with new hardware and installed Windows 8 Pro x64 at the same time. Now I'm getting unexpected reboots, each leaving this in Event Viewer:
Event 41, Kernel-Power: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
Event 6008, EventLog: The previous system shutdown at 12:47:35 on 2013-05-08 was unexpected.
During the last day these reboots have happened with 30-120 minute intervals, typically when the machine has been idle for a while. Once it happened just when I started using it again, and it reset just as I moved the mouse.
I have configured Windows to save minidumps, but there isn't even a directory \Windows\Minidump yet after 10+ resets. There is no other info in Event Viewer.
How can I diagnose this problem?
Hardware is:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Q77M-D2H
CPU: Intel Core i5-3475S
RAM: 4 x 8GB Corsair XMS3 Vengeance DDR3 PC12800/1600MHz CL9
Samsung 840 Pro SSD
5 x WD RED 3TB
Thanks
MikeThanks. Comments below.
> Can
this be related to your issue? [overheating CPU]
We can probably rule out overheating. CPU temp normally sits around 29 degrees Celsius and when the unexpected reboots occur the system starts up and runs for another hour or so (until the next reboot).
> Check this KB article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504
I've disabled automatic restarts in recovery settings but the restarts still happen and I get no error codes or BSOD.
I am suspecting that the problem could be RAM-related as I've had BIOS warnings about the memory speed. Initially, RAM speed is auto-detected to the correct 1600MHz of the RAM sticks. On the third reboot BIOS shows an error dialog where it complains about
wrong settings for the hardware and lowers RAM speed to 1330MHz.
Though, I've been running memory tests overnight without detecting any problems, and I've also done tests with just two RAM sticks at a time (out of four) in all different combinations. As the behaviour is the same for all combinations I'm thinking the memory
speed problem might as well be with the motherboard or BIOS.
Is it likely that the unexpected restarts are correlated to these memory speed warnings?
Can I diagnose or validate this somehow?
Thanks

IPAD: Forced Shutdown During Update. iPad No Longer Working! Help?
I did a force shutdown during the latest ios6 bug fix update and now my ipad will not work at all. iTunes does not reckognise the device when I connect it to my pc via usb. I have tried everything I can think of to have it start but with no success. It just keeps displaying the Apple logo, then flickering, then showing some text data in white, then goes to a blank black screen, then the logo and all over again. It does shutdown but cannot do a startup to the swipe lock page.
It would be hard to believe one could fully kill an ipad so quickly and easily. Please tell me that this is a fixable problem! Any way to get it to start again?
Thanks!
ManahenYou will need to restore your iPad to factory from recovery mode and connecting to your computer. Connect your iPad to your computer and hold the home and power button down for 15 to 30 seconds until you see the silver apple. Once you see the silver apple let go of the power button but keep holdng the home button until you see the itunes logo and white usb cord. At this point you should be able to restore in itunes.

After moving all photographs from my first catalogue, which was a mess, to a new catalogue, it all worked fine. Until that is I tried to open the new catalogue, which had worked OK all day. I now get a window that says "Unexpected error, select another catalogue."
OK, restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one or more is corrupt. To restart in Safe Mode when you hear the start up tone hold down the Shift Key until you see a progress bar. Let it fully boot then restart normally and test.
Also I am assuming you have checked Finder - Preferences - General and see what boxes are checked in "Show these items on desktop." You can also mount an item in Disk Utility, simply highlight it and then look in the File menu for Mount..... -
Re: Windows Server 2008 R2 guest unexpected shutdown
Hi,
I originally attempted to hijack an old abandoned forum thread to ask my question. I wasn't contributing to the original poster's issue but have a concern of my own.
That thread from 2011 was:
Windows Server 2008 R2 guest unexpected shutdown
and my post has been split away from the hijacked thread to let it stand on its own.
My question is ...
Any update on this? I'm having this issue using the Intel Driver. I was told by Oracle support to use the PV Drivers and once I install the drivers, the window server does a Blue Screen. Please Help.
Thank you

do you have any other suggestions, is this normal, is this a bug, have others complained about this?I'm not an expert on Windows guests, as I don't run any myself. It's not normal, but others have not complained about it and we do not have any open bugs. However, I don't know how to troubleshoot crashing Windows guests like you can with crashing Linux guests. Your best bet is to open an SR with Oracle Support, and perhaps also Microsoft support, so you can track down why the guest is crashing. -
Thinkpad x1 carbon unexpected shutdown and freezing during manual shutdown
Ever since i got my x1 carbon i've been experiencing constant unexpected shutdown issues. Ill leave my laptop on for a few minutes unused and when i come back it'll be turned off and when started back up it will prompt me that the computer has recovered from a unexpected shutdown. There are also numerous of times where i would attempt to put my laptop to sleep or shut it down manually and the screen will go black, however the laptop doesnt shutdown or goes into sleep mode, but instead freezes with a black screen. I've sent in my x1 carbon in once due to a harddrive failure where the computer wont even start up windows at all, the technician informed me that they put a new ssd in and ever since i got it back these issues still occur. Can some one please help me here? these occurance are getting more frequent and i'm afraid i might have to send in my laptop again due to harddrive failure.
Hi, kuelderrek
Could you possibly go into Event Viewer and look at the Windows Logs, and then take a screenshot of these logs and post them here? I'd also recommend making sure all the drivers for your system are up to date, just to make sure they are not causing any issues. You can find all the drivers for your system here.
Best,
Adam

Coumputer Shutdowned During Bootcamp Disk Partitioning
Hello All. I have a major problem here, hope for solution ASAP.
I am installing windows on mac, and suddenly, my macbook pro(mid 2012) had shutdown. When i restarted it, my hardrive is in a partitioned form, but i cannot find my bootcamp drive. So now i left only with 20GB free on my Mac. So how can i recover my other partitioned part?
ThanksHey there Ibnu Azmi,
It sounds like your partition information is not correct after your computer unexpectedly quit during a Bootcamp Windows installation. I would use the Disk Utility to help you fix the issue here with the following article:
Disk Utility 12.x: Repair a disk
Print this help page so you can refer to it later. (You don’t have access to Disk Utility Help when you restart up your computer in the next step.)In the Disk Utility Help window, choose Print from the Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear).
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts. When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
Click Repair Disk.If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done. Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility reports “overlapped extent allocation” errors, two or more files occupy the same space on your disk, and at least one of them is likely to be corrupted. Check each file in the list of affected files. If you can replace a file or recreate it, delete it. If it contains information you need, open it and examine its data to make sure it hasn’t been corrupted. (Most of the files in the list have aliases in a DamagedFiles folder at the top level of your disk.)
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,

T400 with Windows XP, freezes on shutdown
Hi, I recently purchased a Lenovo T400 laptop (originally with vista) and installed Windows XP on it. I installed all the drivers one by one from the lenovo website, and verything works nicely- except for one hitch. When I go to shutdown or restart, it starts shutting down and then at the screen "windows is shutting down" everything freezes in place. I cant move the mouse and it won't shutdown no matter how much time I give it. So I have to manually shut it down using the power button. I was wondering if anyone has encountered this problem before and know of a fix? Thanks very much,
ThioI'm reviving this post since I'm having the same issue. Windows XP and hangs on during shutdown. Yesterday I installed around 30 updates using the ThinkVantage program. Maybe is the Power Management Driver, BIOS update, who knows. Any help will be really appreciated. Thanks.
jongsun209 wrote:
Hi,
I also have same exect problem for my T400 (after installing new audio driver).
No fixes found yet, but system restore (prior to new audio driver installation) at safemode worked for me.
(since windows can't shutdown normally on regular mode).
Hopefully this helps. -
Preview often quits unexpectedly
When I use Preview to read a PDF-formed document such as a user guide from Apple ,it often quits unexpectedly. In most cases, scanning is whatever ok,while highlighting some words or typing something new in notes always lead to quitting unexpectedly.Additionally, the handles above are sometimes paused by a multi-colored windmill blowing, and then it's quit again, again, again.
I guess something is wrong during the process of saving new operation. Moreover, the same issue on my imac(2011) just appears from macos 10.7.4 to 10.8.2
I hope someone could do me a favor with this. Many thanks.OK,thanks for your being patient.I'm not familar with these computer codes,so you may need to skip some lines.

Please help for my unexpected shutdown W510!!!
Since I used my W510 ( 43192NU with Windows 7 32bit ) from April 2010, I did experienced with unexpected shutdown. First, I thought it was my improperly use. But now, it shutdown unexpectedly even 3 times a week. Did anyone got the same experienced? Please help me...
I have the same exact problem!!!
And it drives me crazy.
It happens only when my battery is charging (that is, it's not at 100%).
If the battery is fully charged, and I'm on AC power as well, all works o.k., but as soon as the battery is low (say 50%) and I plug it in, and put some load on the system (using VMware a lot) it runs for a while then dies instantaneously. No gradual shut-down - just shuts off.
It just happened again a few minutes ago, and I lost an important VMware file.
I called Lenovo support a few months ago, and they wanted me to send the laptop in for a week to make sure there is really a problem.
Any other input/comments would be appreciated.
BTW, I purchased the W510 in February 2010. -
IPhoto unexpected shutdown - successful downloaded pictures now gone
Picture download was successful, but within a minute of the download iPhoto unexpectedly shutdown. When I relaunched iPhoto, the pictures I downloaded were gone. The originals on the camera were deleted after the download. Is there any way of getting those pictures back?
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Hi! i have unexpected shutdown problem on my macbook pro.
It happens every time, no matter wich software (programs) iam using at that moment, unexpectedly:
display becoming black, but keyboard still have backlight (caps lock button does not work - lamp does not light), all buttons not working, indicator on the front edge (on the right side) is lit and not flashing. i can only push power button off.
more simptoms
unexpected shutdown happens:
when i am using spase button for preview folders and files
when i am using photoshop
when i am using Spaces
when i am opening Time Machine
when i am reinstalling MacOS and trying set Time Zone
when i am using/not using battery...
after mac boot up or 10-30 min later - whatever, when i am using graphic effects - unexpected shutdown happens
as example you can view my video on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dyswi5McQ-U
What i am already done:
Reinstalled MacOS
Changed hard drive
Changed memory cards
Resetted SMC
Launched Diagnostic tools (no errors)
Changed power adapter
... and unexpected shutdown still happening
I think, all that because i have problems with my videocard(s). And I think that this is a manufacturing defect.
How i can fix this problem? Can I fix it myself ?

My Story:
in late 2010 I bought my macbook pro in official shop (Beijing, China). I did not buy an extended warranty. After several month using, I came to the official service (Beijing, China), because I had some problems with usb. Genius man took my computer, and told me that Apple can repair the computer during a few days for free. It was necessary to replace the motherboard. Unfortunately, I did not have a few days those time, cause I had to go to another country. Therefore, I was given a receipt on which I can restore my computer the next time, when I have time. Then I flew to another country. For several years, I have not had the opportunity to come to the Apple store. During all this time, I had a problem with unexpected shutdown. After I came back to China, in 2014, i came to the oficcial service center again. Told my story. They told me that they knew that I appealed about this issue before, but they can not help me because my warranty is over. And i was offered to replace the motherboard for about 5,000 yuan. This is terrible. This repair cost more expensive than buying a new computer with a much more powerful specifications (other computer brands). I am very sad that I bought a new computer, for a long time, to work on it and was unable to use it several years. Now my laptop simply stored in a drawer. When I bought the computer from Apple company, I was hoping to get a quality assistant in my work and life. But I was deceived. I want you to understand me. I am the system administrator. I am working with computers every day. For my clients i always advising to buy Apple computers for the quality and usability. "Shoemaker without shoes" - I would say. I am disappointed with the quality and support. There is nothing worse that when your favorite company denies you.
I know that Apple company launched "MacBook Pro Repair Extension Program for Video Issues", but only for MacBook Pro systems were sold between February 2011 and December 2013. Maybe this is a problem not only for computers released in 2011, but for 2010 too?Hello Durr,
