Windows on the cloud

I have been told that, if I want to run an application on the cloud, it must run under Linux.
I have a heavy compute application written in VB.NET which runs well and fast, but I have been told that it must be re-written in C++ to run on the cloud.
Pardon my ignorance, but is that true?

Hi Jeff;
One of the key features of Azure is that it is open and a flexiable system. One can not only deploy Windows  based OS but you can deploy a full range of open and community-driven OS and software solutions on Azure. On Azure, you have the choice of a
full range of Linux distributions like Ubuntu and SUSE, community-driven solutions like Chef, Puppet, and Docker along with other products like Oracle Database and Oracle WebLogic Server. Azure is open with lots of options.
You could opt for the
Azure Free Trial first see if it fits your requirement which I'm sure it would and move the way forward.
You could also check out some code samples
here  to get a gist.
Warm Regards From India;
