  • ITunes not detecting iPod Touch

So I just got the 32GB iPod Touch today. 2nd Gen of course.
Already had iTunes in my PC before this. So as how it should go, I plugged the iTouch in, it started to sync my music. Okay so that was normal. Then it asked to update it's firmware to 2.2. And I said yes.
After updating it asked to install, but my songs were still syncing with the iTouch. I said yes to install the updates anyway. It started installing and suddenly my iTunes just crashed, saying some error and it couldn't install the latest firmware. Ever since then iTunes won't/can't detect my iTouch anymore but Windows can.
The driver installed is 'Apple Recovery (iBoot) USB Driver', is that the right one? That's about as far as it goes now. And when I turn on the iTouch it just shows that picture of the USB and an arrow to connect to iTunes.
Annoying enough, I've tried every single solution I could find on this forum. Even with the usbaapl.sys copy paste into inf folder, still doesn't work. Countless times reinstalling iTunes still doesn't work, reset the iTouch, still no hope. So if someone would please? I understand I'm not the only one going through this. I'm on a 64bit Vista, and YES I have iTunes 64bit version installed. I'm thinking if I should go to the Apple Shop to ask for help but I doubt they'd be of any service/knowledge of this. Really really frustrating. Please help, someone!?

    Hello,
Why not? Apple staff their retail stores with 'Geniuses' for exactly this reason - all part of the Apple experience. You can reserve a booking online first:
    http://www.apple.com/retail/
Alternatively have you tried working through some of the kbase articles. I would suggest that you totally remove all Apple software components and then re-install:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Given that your issue followed a firmware update you may well need to Restore the iPod too:

  • Windows 7 will not recognize ipod touch, but itunes does.

i've removed iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour,  and Apple Application Support.  then reinstalled itunes 11.0.2.26; restarted computer.  tried diff usb ports, cables.  same issue -- the ipod is NOT recognized in windows, but itunes sees it.
the ipod works fine on a diff computer running windows XP -- it is recognized in both windows and itunes. a diff ipod has the same issues on this windows 7 computer. so, i don't think it's an ipod issue.  sounds like something in windows 7, but what??? thank you in advance!
i am running windows 7 64-bit, if that helps.

  • HT2305 windows media player wont detect ipod touch

why wont windows media player detect my ipod touch

Because iPods will only work with iTunes. Your computer only sees an iPod Touch as a digital camera. What are you trying to do with your iPod?

  • Windows 7 iTunes 9 and Ipod touch Second Gen

I have upgraded my computer to Windows 7 and now to iTunes 9. When I attempt to sync my iPod, it begins the process, which will last for about 1 minute. Then it freezes and reports back the the iPod is no longer connected. I also witnessed that one of my four cores on my CPU becomes locked at 100%, my sound becomes very cracked and the only way to resolve the issue is to reboot. I can honestly say that I did not try to sync my iPod since I upgraded to Windows 7.
I uninstalled iTunes multiple times and reinstalled and still had the same error. I have also tried unplugging my iPod and replugging it back into the system and I got another error that it could not detect my iPod, yet Windows did find it as a device. I have reset my iPod as well just to be safe. Any idea's or is this just going to be a Windows 7 related issue and I will be sans iPod till they actually test and fix this in the future?

I have been having the same troubles as you with itunes 9 and windows 7 with a 16gb 3g iphone. I did a full wipe restore then upgrade to 3.1.2 as I do with every update. Now I just recently began using windows 7 and it seems broken as I was only once able to get some songs to sync. I have actually wiped out windows and reinstalled and started over and still the same.

This is my second time syncing my ipod touch and I've had my classic for forever and just use it to play in my car. I tried shutting down and it still did not work. Help? Thanks a bunch
Also...my computer recognizes both of them (Asus, Windows 7)

  • Windows XP/Itunes not recognising ipod

Hi - hope there's someone out thre who can help me!
My son's ipod stopped working after he connected to itunes and recommended he download new version (sounds familiar, huh?) Anyway to cut a long story short, it's not worked since - I've tried deleting all versions of software and updates, etc, etc., for the last two weeks!
Tonight I thought I was getting somewhere, the ipod says it has Version 2.1 under settings, I connect to the PC and it says I need to configure ipod (removable disk E is shown in My Computer - but freezes if I try and right click on it!)
I install Version 2.1 Updater from original disc, then User Guide, then Itunes, Version 4.1.
It then says again Ipod is not readable - needs to be reformatted for use on PC and asks me to click on Update to proceed.
This opens up Updater 2.1 - both Update and Restore buttons are greyed out, after a couple of minutes Restore is no longer greyed out, so I've clicked on this, (already backed up music!) After a while, the blue task bar starts moving and when completed it says
"ipod has been restored to factory settings. Please leave ipod connected while it completes task" - on the ipod the apple logo is showing. After another wait it says Restore complete. I then get a message saying 'USB device is not recognised and I need to format it to get it to work on my pc and so the cycle begins again!!
Anyone out there got any ideas how to get round this problem? Son now using my Zen 20Gb which he complains is chunky but heh, it works!!
Thanks in advance of any help!

Aaron and macgirl77, neither of your Macs have USB2.0 which unfortunately is one of the requirements for the +iPod touch+. It seems that after a short period of syncing correctly on USB1.1 it fails.

  • Windows 8 laptop not recognising iPod Touch

    Hi,
I have an old 2nd gen ipod touch and a 5th gen, I bought a new laptop a few months ago and neither iPod works with it. When I connect via USB it is recognised on my computer as an external storage device, but it doesn't register with iTunes at all.
I have de-authorised my old laptop, I've tried uninstalling iTunes, I've done all the updates necessary... I'm stuck as to what else I can do. I have the same problem with my iPad... can anyone advise?
    Many thanks

  • ITunes not recognising iPod touch

I can't sync my 2nd gen. touch with iTunes, when plugged in, iTunes doesn't recognise the iPod and the icon doesn't come up, however it does charge. I've been through all iTunes help and can't find anything. Any suggestions?

    Start here:

  • ITune not recognising iPod touch, on and off.

Okay, this is not the usual iTunes not recognising the iPod.
I had this problem when I first set up my iPod. After a full uninstall and reinstall of iTunes, as described in the support article, my iPod was recognised. Now I have added more music to my collection, and a couple of the apps need updating I wanted to update my iPod. I connected my iPod and nothing, it does not show in iTunes. It is showing in my computer as a camers which I really wish it would stop doing. Also when my iPod was connected the first time I set up to allow it to wirelessly update and it won't do that either.
I am stuck on what else to do. I just hope I am not going to have to do a full uninstall and reinstall every time I want to update my iPod, because it rather defeats the purpose.
I have read and followed the instructions here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/itunes/
I have even de-authorised and re-authorised my account as suggested at the Apple store. It is the latest model of touch, not sure what gen that is but it is only two weeks old. What else can I do to try and get this sorted?

Illass thank you for the reply, but as I said I have done everything on the support page. I even printed off the uninstall instructions as it gave you a rather precise order to do it in and I did check for the folders to see if they had been left, I learnt that when I updated my graphics drivers and still a game said my card wasn't up to scratch, even though my card supported shading 4.0 it only needed 2.0 for the game.
I also printed off the software conflict information otherwise I would have gotten totally lost.
However thank you for the disabling info, as it was getting a tad annoying when I was connecting it to charge up.
I decided to uninstall and reinstall again and low and behold it is recognised again. That makes it the second time I have had to do this to get my touch recognised. However doing this everytime I want to update is going to be rather annoying.
Ah the days of the Nano 2nd gen, and the innoence of those times. Shame some clumsy so-an-so knocked it out of my hand and stepped on it as it was just so simple to use.
