Lsnrctl start/stop "message not found" errors
When I installed 10g I selected a global database name of 'orcl.clearbean.com' and a sid of 'dev1'. Below are my environment variables, tnsnames.ora file and listener.ora file. I can connect and use the database, but I am getting errors messages when I do a lsnrctl stop/start. I am running Oracle and Apache together on a server running Fedora Core 4 (linux). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tnsping from any client to new server fails
Hi there,
This was my first oracle 10g install and everything seemed to be working but now its not. I just installed a 10g server and added it's IP to my tnsnames.ora files on my other computers. I can ping it regularly just fine but tnsping fails. Any ideas? Our network has a subnetmask of 255.255.255.192, could that cause a problem?

TNS-12541: No listner on Windows VISTA (oracle 10g client)
Hi all,
After installing an Oracle 10g Client for Windows Vista, when trying to connect to the database, i got the error No listner (TNS-12541). I checked the database listner but it's running and i can connect there from XP OS client. Does anybody have an idea about that.
tnsping give the same error also but when i ping the server it gives response.
Any body has experioenced the same problem, if yes could you help please it's very urgent.
Thanks regards
raitsarevoraitsarevo,
First of all: it's not very urgent. Very urgent requests end up in a SR at http://metalink.oracle.com.
Oracle doesn't support all editions of Vista and 10g may not even support Vista at all. Please refer to the download page for 10g at http://otn.oracle.com for further details.
A non-supported edition of Mickeysoft usually results in Oracle Net issues.

SamayaHello Nicholas,
Thank you for your suggestion.
But i do not think it is really required to change P96 tnsnames.ora.
Because, T72 database is in a Linnux box where several other DB are also there.
(Our landscape,NOn-PRD DB instances are together in 1 linux box)
DB13 jobs of other instances are working fine.
Only difference is T72 sap instace is a windows server where as other instances are in AIX.
In DB13c, windows system is configured as without ABAP server .
UNIX systems as With ABAP server.
All were working with this configuration till few days ago.
Thank you. -

HI
THnaks for reply,
But i did not change any parameter at allMaybe you didn't knowingly change any parameters, but you are running this on Windows. To paraphrase Forest Gump, "My momma always said Windows is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get." My team and I just finished spending three hours of troubleshooting an application when "we didn't change anything" -- except that a Windows update was pushed to the app server ....
If Oracle says "target host does not exist", I'd take Oracle's word for it.
So how do you go about chasing down ora-12541? Start with your names resolution - usually tnsnames. What is listed for the HOST= parameter of the entry in question? Is it listed as a server name or ip address? Can you ping it?
From the client machine please
1) show us the contents of your tnsnames.ora file
2) open a command prompt (cmd.exe)
3) give the command "set | sort"
4) give the command "tnsping <mysid>", where "<mysid>" is the tnsnames entry used to identify the database.
Copy all of the above - commands AND responses, and paste it back here.
Kindly check and help urgentlyWe can't check. After all it's your system. All we can do is suggest what you should check.
And there is no "urgent" here. This is a forum of peer volunteers.
"Urgent" means one of two things -
1) people are dying, or
2) you have a customer-facing, revenue-producing production system that is down.
(And to get some perspective on the second case, keep the first in mind.)
For the first, you call whatever civil emergency service seems appropriate.
For the second, you open an SR with Oracle - which requires a paid-up support contract. For them to consider your problem "urgent", you will need to demonstrate that your problem falls under item #2.
You don't have a support contract? Now you know the exact dollar figure that your company places on the data. -

first be sure that oracle database service and listener service are started as same OS username and this user was in the list of group oracle dba
second stop all services and delete all listeners using netca and delete all files(listener.ora, tnsnames.ora) from network\admin\ folder
after create new listener using netca and check hostname in listener.ora, if everything is ok create new connection string in tnsnames .ora and then do following commands on cmd and put here result.

How I solve this error?

Best regards,
SherokuHi,
Typically when you get "Message xxxx not found: ..." error messages when trying to start the listener, it means that your ORACLE_HOME is not properly set.
The walkthrough is to set the ORACLE_HOME at envionment level just before using the command, and maybe also as a system environment parameter.C:\>ECHO %ORACLE_HOME%
%ORACLE_HOME%
C:\>SET ORACLE_HOME=C:\NOWHERE!

Ent. Manager is not able to connect to the database instance. ORA-12541
Hi
I have installed and configured Oracle 10.2.0.1 on a Microsoft Cluster with Windows 2003 Server.
Database instance and listener are running OK on both cluster nodes.
On one of the nodes (pwmssrv1) I configured Enterprise Manager to monitor and control the database.
At the beginning it worked fine, but after making a reboot on this server the Enterprise Manager cannot see the database instance and listener anymore.
I already recreated/reinstalled EM and the problem persists.
When I try to access the Oracle EM I get the errors (it do not show the login page):

TNS-12560: "protocol adapter error"
Cause: A generic protocol adapter error occurred.
Action: Check addresses used for proper protocol specification.
For further details, turn on tracing and reexecute the operation. Turn off tracing when the operation is complete.
TNS-00530: "protocol adapter error"
Cause: A generic protocol adapter error occurred.
Action: For further details, turn on tracing and reexecute the operation.
Proposed Solution on metalink.
Solution Description:
=====================
Delete the protocols in your "listener.ora" file that you do not use.
Edit the "listener.ora" file and look at the protocol section. Make sure that
only the protocols that you use on your system are there (i.e., TCP, IPC, ...)
and that there are no entries listed for SPX or NMP (named pipes).
Regards
Adnan
Since you are only using TCP I don't think that is the issue. You should turn on tracing to get more details.
