Windows OS for iPod Touch
Is the iPod Touch user manual completely accurate? It says "To use iPod touch, you need: ...
Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate edition".
But my computer only has Windows Vista Home Basic installed.
PS. Why can't I find an email address that I can ask Apple Tech/Sales Support this question? The answer determines whether I buy an iPod Touch or not. I will NOT upgrade my OS just to use an iPod Touch.

I have Synced My iPod touch in Xp "Pro", Vista "Ultimate", And Windows 7 "Ultimate" (Root Candidate). Premium, Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate do not have any thing to do with the computers ability to install Itunes or sync with your Ipod. Hares what those titles mean http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/default.aspx. I think you can sync it on windows 95, 98 or 2000 as well so don't be to worried .

My iPod touch is always recognized by my Vista Box...using the same USB cable and port my wife's nano isn't detected anymore. Since Vista can't see the nano iTunes can't see it either. When I try my wife's nano I get the message:
"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows doesn't recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message"
I thought her nano wasn't charged enough but I've charged it for hours and this doesn't make a difference. It used to synch like my ipod touch but it stopped working about a week ago. My wife's nano still holds songs and works it just can't be recognized by Windows. I even checked if the Apple Mobile Device app was running and it was and I stopped it and restarted it. Didn't make any difference. Any ideas? -
Can't install iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch
I am trying to download the iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch from http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/whatsnew.html so I can download apps for my new iPod touch. (Although it is pretty bogus that I should have to pay $10 for an upgrade on a brand new device so that I have the privilege to buy apps). I have iTunes 7.7 already installed.
When I click on the link https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/touchLandingPage , I do not get a download, and iTunes does not open. Nothing happens if I open iTunes before trying this link either.
Instead, I get a brief page which says "One Momemt Please". Connecting to the iTunes Store. Loading... If iTunes doen't open, click the iTunes application in your Doc or Windows Task Bar" , then my browser is redirected to http://www.apple.com/itunes/affiliates/download/?itmsUrl=itmss%3A%2F%2Fphobos.ap ple.com%2FWebObjects%2FMZFinance.woa%2Fwa%2FtouchLandingPage%3Fign-mscache%3D1 which tells me to download iTunes... but I already have iTunes installed.
I installed (then uninstalled, reinstalled) the latest iTunes (7.7.0.43) and the problem persists. iTunes works fine for all other uses.
I have the problem with both Firefox (3.0) and Internet Explorer (6)
How can I download and install The iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch directly from iTunes? I cannot find it when I search for it. It is not listed in the App store.
(P.S. The web support form does not work when I tried to fill out a problem report for "Connection" issues. Although I filled in all form fields, it would not send the report, telling me I did not fill in a field.)The upgrade now appears directly in iTunes, so I do not need to access it from the web page. I see many others are encountering problems installing the upgrade, so I'll see how it goes...
There is no answer to the initial problem that iTunes install does not configure the browsers to handle the itmss:// protocol.
I still think Apple should not charge for this for a brand new iPod purchased just this week. -

It is normal for the iPod to be seen as a camera since that is how one gets photo off the iPod. You can turn it off by:

To get iTunes to see you iPod see:

If you previoulys installed camera or scanner software that may be causing the problem. -

Computer has different name than Itunes for Ipod Touch
I have an Ipod Touch 4th Generation 32gb. I have had no problems with it or with Itunes. My Mom came last Saturday to visit and she needed to charge her Ipod Touch so I hooked it to my computer where I always have a cord and charged it for about 45 minutes or so. I have no problem with my Ipod or with Itunes BUT when I go look at the device now on my computer,when it is connected to USB cord, it show "Marys Ipod" now instead of "Steves Ipod". In Itunes, it is still "Steves Ipod" and I can sync and all but I really want to get rid of "Marys Ipod" off my computer even though when I open it up, it is my ipod, just mislabed. I know because it has my pictures and her's is only 8gb. My Ipad2, is fine when I hook it up to the USB cord, It says "Steves Ipad" but when I hook my USB cord to my ipod touch, it still reads "Marys Ipod". Is this something I should be concerned about or is it not worth the hassle of trying to restore, etc? I have tried to change the name, but Windows won't allow. I do have Windows 7. I have also got the new update on Itunes and the new software(5.0) version.
I am stumped. I have googled this and have searched for over 3 hours today on how to fix this. Ready to bang my head against the wall. I have did a reboot on Ipod, I have restarted the computer. I have not reinstalled anything including Itunes.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? I would sure appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.shellymoe

I just found the answer to this after hours of searching online. Make sure your iPod is hooked up to your computer & turned on.
Click on "Start" and in the search box type "regedit". This will display a program called "Registry Editor". Open it.
Click on the "Edit" tab and select "Find...". Type "Mary" in the search box and click "Find Next". It will bring up a list of everything that has "Mary" in it. (You may have to click on "Find next" under the "Edit" tab in order to find the associated items that have something to do with both "iPod" and "Mary".) What you need to pay attention to is not the NAME, but the DATA column. For me, the wrong iPod name was listed in 2 places in the data column. The actual names of those 2 items were "FriendlyName" and "Label".
Once you find the associated items that have to do with both the iPod and "Mary", right click on one of them. Select "Modify...". A box will open giving a "Value Name" box and a "Value Data" box. The "Value Data" box should say "Mary's iPod". All you have to do is change it to "Steve's iPod" and click "OK". Repeat the "Modify..." and renaming of the "Value Data" steps for every item that says something about "Mary's iPod".
Close the Registry Editor. Open "my computer" and see that it changed the name of your iPod back to "Steve's iPod".

“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”

I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.

Download iTunes 11.1. Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes. Select your device under the Devices heading in the iTunes' sidebar. Click on the Summary tab in iTunes' main window. Click on the Update button.
Note that the update servers are under heavy strain today. -

Everyone seems to think no virus scan is required for ipod touch.If you surf the web why would no virus be able to attack?

Not exactly... So typically the normal "hacker" is looking for something, like passcodes to banking or other personal information, maybe a keylogger, or something to that effect. That's a lot of why windows is targeted. For one, its the widest audience, for two it is rather unsecure. Apple goes to great length to ensure its software (Mac OS and iOS) is secure. They provide you with warnings and require admistrative approval to do certain things that a malicious software may want to do. So, again if you're actively engaged and don't do stupid things on the internet you'll be fine. -

This might be an ignorant suggestion, but someone who knows more about it can maybe post after me. If you're connecting your macbook to the internet with an ethernet cable rather than a wifi router, can you set up a macbook as a wifi connection spot so that your ipod is connecting directly to the macbook via wifi? I would imagine you could use the remote app then.
I also sort of thought you were asking if there was a way to control your ipod touch using a remote via bluetooth, and that's also a no, but you can use a remote with a dock connector. -
I have forgotten my password for iPod Touch 4G and it is now disabled. I tried connecting to iTunes but i haven't synced before and i need to enter the password before i can back it up so i can restore it. I don't want to lose pictures so please HELP!

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased. That is how it works
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

New software update for iPod touch 4th generation? PLEASE HELP!!
Ok so here is the problem: I have the iPod touch 4th generation with software version 4.3 (I have had my iPod for about 7 months) and recently within the past week or so I have started experiencing multiple crashes with many different various apps and games. Just random games crashing and then I noticed it happening with the Facebook app and even Safari on my iPod! I had to get off of my iPod and come on the computer to type this message out because Safari would crash every single time I tried to type this on my iPod! So at first I figured it was the apps and games' problems, but then as more and more began to crash, like Facebook and Safari, I figured it is the Apple software version 4.3 acting up. So I was wondering, is Apple working on a new software update for iPod touch 4th gen.? Or is this a rare problem? Is there anyone out there having this same problem? Or anyone at all that can PLEASE help me?! MANY THANKS!
