Windows partition not availible on boot screen

Windows has installed and works great, except I can only access it if it's the default on start up. When I press option, the only option I see is the default mac partition.
I can see the drive on my desktop as well as in Preferences >> Startup disk, but not on the boot screen.
The partition was created with the bootcamp assistant and is FAT 32.

I have the exact same problem. I just bought a new Macbook (with the "Santa Rosa" processor) and installed Windows XP. Everything in both Mac & Windows OS work fine except when I boot up the computer and hold down the OPTION key, I only see the Mac OS partition but not the Windows partition. I've made sure to install (and even re-installed) the Apple drivers in Windows from my Macbook installation disk.
I use a workaround and choose WINDOWS as my startup disk in my SYSTEM PREFERENCES in the Mac, and use the BOOT CAMP control panel in Windows to go back to the Mac. But I used to be able to use the OPTION key prior to the Leopard upgrade. Any help anyone can provide will be much appreciated!!

  • Certain pop up windows are not apperaing on my screen.  Save as PDF and Doc preferences never appear

Certain pop up windows are not apperaing on my screen.  Save as PDF and Doc preferences never appear, and lock me out until I press return.  So they are active, I just can't see them.  Any ideas?

They are obviously off the screen somewhere. Did you have a dual monitor set up at one time? You can try increasing the resolution of your screen to see if you can get a part to show or maybe just resrt the preferences (Cmd(Ctrl)+Opt(Alt)+Shift as you restart AI) to reset the defaults.

  • Windows 8.1 freezes at boot screen

    Hi,
Today morning when i tried to switch on my PC, it hangs on the Win 8 boot screen. At times it would give me the BSOD ofMachine_Check_Exception while hung at boot. At times it tries to do an Automatic repair as well, but freezes again on the boot screen itself with it below saying "Preparing Automatic Repair"
I also see an error PCI IRQ Routing Table Error - 07 1F 00 just before boot.
I would have to restart like 10-20 times or maybe more for it to get through to windows. I thought it was a windows issue so i tried to boot into my Win 8 and Win 7 USB's so i could format and reinstall but it Doesnt let me Boot into the USB after i select the option to do so. It would take my straight to my current Win 8 install Boot screen and hang there.
Since a few days now, my system would not shut down when i would click on shut down. The screen would go off and all but my Desktop cabinet would still be on. It used to restart fine when required but that doesnt work now too. I have to switch off the mains to get it to shut down so i can restart.
The red LED's on my mobo dont stop at the CPU, RAM, Video card and forgot whats the last one for. So is this a windows issue? A hardware issue? and how do i fix this?
I havent made any hardware changes to the system. Ive tried to boot with just the monitor plugged in to the system and same issue.
I have reset my BIOS. I cant get into safe mode or boot from USB.

  • Windows does not appear as boot option

I've successfully installed Windows 7 using Bootcamp. Everything was setup and woeking properly, drivers etc... I set Bootcamp to boot to MacOSX by default, and now I can't get back to Windows. When booting, I hold alt/option key to select the OS I want, but MacOSX is the only one that appears. Windows is not a choice!
Is there a fix for this, am I missing something? or should I simply wipe the Windows partition and start over?
    Much appreciated!

Windows: install Apple drivers off OS X DVD
Also try holding mouse button down which will pause boot process.

  • Windows partition randomly gone, cannot boot into it.

    Some Background:
I installed Windows 7 on my iMac (iMac12,1) under OS X 10.7.2, then I re-installed a 64 bit version of Win7 later. I've been using mostly Win7 for stuff, switching back to OS X (upgraded to 10.8.2) every now and then.
Today, I was just working away in Windows, minding my own business, when the computer decides to restart, without me telling it to do so.
It boots up in to OS X. No problem. I'll just reboot into Windows.
I open up System Preferences, click Startup Disk, and the Windows partition isn't there. Open up Finder to look for it. Not there either. Open up Disk Utility to look for it. All I see is the OS X partition and a partition called disk0s2, which is grayed out. Upon clicking, I see that it is not mounted, and the capacity is 209.7 MB. That's all I get.
Oddly enough, I see files that were on Windows in the Finder window, but not under any Windows partition.
I have no clue why this happened, how it happened, or how to fix it.
I have done almost two weeks worth of work on Windows, and it appears to be gone.
Anything that can be done to help me is appreciated!

  • [SOLVED] Partitions not mounted on boot / boots to (none)

I have strange problem after I ran pacman -Syu today. After reboot I can't login and it doesn't show hostname in login window, I do get kdm login screen.
If I select console login or change to tty1 then I can login as root, without any password asked.
After that I am able to mount partitions just fine, and I am also able to chroot in and update the system, didn't help. I also tried downgrading kernel to 3.5.6.1, with no change in behaviour.
I don't have /usr on different partition but decided to try adding usr and shutdown to mkinitcpio hooks anyway, again no improvement.
Recent update only brought shadow.pacnew, which I merged. I do pacnew merges after each update.
Any pointers on where to go next?
    Thanks in advance.

You need to understand what you are actually doing when you overwrite old files with new ones.  When there is a recommendation to "merge" your pacnew files, that doesn't mean just go ahead and use the new ones.  It means you should take the time to see what is in them, see where they differ, and then make an educated decsion on what to do with them from there.
If this is how you have always been handling pacnew files, don't expect that the prolem is totally solved.  I would not be suprised if this one sneaks up and bites you in the ass.

  • Window does not open to full screen???

This one has me stumped. I recently installed / upgraded to CS5.1, set up all my preferences, keyboard shortcuts, presets, plugins. All worked fine, day in - day out,  for the last three weeks.
About three days ago this anomaly appeared...
When I zoom in (cmd +/), the window will resize, but only part way. The window will move over flush right on the monitor, but leave about one inch of space between the window and the left side of the monitor, and increase in size until it fits aprox 2/3rds of the monitor / screen. It stops enlarging and leaves about 3 inches of space between the window and the bottom of the screen. At that point I get scroll bars. So I end up with a much smaller window to work in.
I can grab the bottom right corner of the window, pull it open to fill the screen, but as soon as I go to zoom in or out, the window jumps back to the smaller size with the gap on the left side and bottom.
It's driving me crazy!! having to work in such a small window.
Option bar is "Standard Screen Mode"
All my pallets are on a separate monitor, so nothing else is on my main monitor that would limit the size of my window as I zoom in.
    My preferences are set to:
    • Zoom Resizes Windows
    • Enable Flick Panning (works fine)
    • Animated Zoom
    OS 10.5x
    10GB ram
I don't know if I inadvertently changed something to cause this. So I'm hoping someone here can solve this issue.
    Thanks in advance!
    JeffN

    Grant,
upon further investigation, the "application frame" yields other unwanted effects.
That setting gives me tabbed viewing (which I don't want), even though I have that turned off in preferences. When I open multiple documents they open not as individual windows, but as a tab in the one open window. When I go into the options bar and set the "arrange documents" to "float in windows", I get the individual windows, but then I get the same problem of the windows not zooming to the full screen, as stated in my original posting.
Also, just saw that even with the "application frame" checked, when I open a smart object layer, that window still has the same zoom issue.
    So the problem still exists.
    Any other ideas?
fyi: here is a screen capture of the original screen / zoom issue.
You can see the gray space on the left and bottom. The scroll bars are showing and the window will not get any larger.
    Thanks JeffN

  • Windows partition not showing up in finder OR disk utility

doesn't snow leopard have ntfs support out of the box? Well I have windows 7 x64 installed via bootcamp, yet the windows partition will not show up in finder. I checked in disk utility and there is my macintosh HD, and a greyed out partition named disk0s4. It's 120gb, same size as the windows partion, but it says that it is FAT, which I know is not right. I even went so far as to to reformat the whole drive and reinstall both windows 7 and os x, and I am 100% sure it is a NTFS drive, even though it still will not mount in osx and it still says it's FAT in disk utility. What is going on??

Go to Finder > Preferences > General
Make sure External disks is selected.
Restart your Mac then connect the external drive.

  • Created partition not showing up (BOOT CAMP)

I'm in the process of installing XP, but now I'm stuck. I'm being asked which partition I would like to install XP on to, but the one I had just created spcifically for it is not to be seen. Only one (my main 131/250gigs) partition shows.
My brand-freakin-new iMac is completely updated (yes, the firmware too.)
Donwloaded the newest version of Boot Camp
    Followed the steps
Created a 32gig partition for Windows
Popped in the XP install disc and restarted
Here's where I'm stuck, (along with the disc inside, mind you)
What now? And how the heck do i get the disc out?
iMac Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If you restart and hold down the mouse button the disk should pop out.
Just an idea for you. There is an entire Apple Discussion forum dedicated to Boot Camp and Windows XP.
Whereas, not everyone here with an Intel iMac has installed, tried to install or has experience with BC & XP, everyone there has or at least has an interest. You may attract help more quickly there.
The Forum is at the bottom of the main Apple Discussions page under Windows Compatible Technology.

  • IMac running slow and windows partition not showing

I have an iMac 12.1, 2.5 ghz, i5, 4 gb ram,  500 gb hd (41 gb used) running 10.7.4.  We installed windows parallel and windows 7 about three months ago. We rarely used windows and now windows doesn't work, although the icons are there. I tried to uninstall via boot camp and the partition does not show. The iMac is now running extremely slow except when running in safe mode.
How can I delete or reinstall windows and speed up the iMac?
    Thank you

Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when you try to launch Parrallels Desktop.
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitiion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Permissions.

  • Bios RAID Partition Not Detected at Boot

    Hello everybody,
I've got a problem that's really a minor annoyance.  I have two 1TB hdds set up in RAID-0 and my system (Arch x64) on a separate ssd.  When I boot up, the RAID volume is not detected automatically.  I have to manually run partprobe, then the partition is detected and I can mount it as expected.
I've been unsuccessful as to finding a solution and was hoping you guys could help.  Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, and let me know if you need any more information.

Yeah, it's a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H motherboard, and I'm using the two Marvell sata ports for the RAID.  It's detected and works flawlessly in Windows; the RAID0 volume is formatted NTFS.
And, like I said, when I load up Arch, after I run partprobe as root, I can mount and use the volume just as well as I can in Windows.  I'd just like to have it all done automatically.

A few weeks ago when I tried to turn it on, it came up with a black screen and the HP logo with either a "Please Wait" or "Preparing Automatic Recovery"  sign at the bottom of the screen. I've been on the troubleshoot pages and have tried all the steps applied for this problem and have spoken to someone on HPChat and they have said that there may be a problem with the motherboard. What do I need to do?

  • Satellite A300-20P - Games with Windows 7 not working in full screen

I have Satellite A300-20P and VGA ATI 3650
I made upgrade to Windows 7 Professional
All games working well but not in full screen. I installed the last driver for ATI for Windows 7. It was working in full screen in Vista before I make upgrade.
Same problem on my brother`s laptop after he make upgrade to Windows 7.

    Hi
Normally you can change the screen resolution in every game and if they should run in full screen mode or not. Check this!!!
Can you also tell us what display driver you have installed? The drivers from the Toshiba page are for desktop cards and not for mobile cards. So please use only the Toshiba drivers.

  • Just got a new Macbook Pro... I want to install the drivers on the Windows partition I made through Boot Camp

but can't seen to find the disc. Does it even come with the computer??

In the OSX BootCamp Assistant did you download the "Windows Support Software" (aka BootCamp Windows Drivers) and installed them after the Windows Installation ?
The Boot Camp - Installation & Setup Guide (OS X Lion) describes how-to do this.
OSX 10.7 Lion does not come on a disc.
