Windows:Possible FIX for Ipod classic 120GIG keeps prompting for a restore.

Okay so after doing some playing around with itunes and sharepod I found a pattern.
Okay so when you connect your ipod, before opening itunes(Make sure you've unchecked "Open itunes automatically when connected" so you can do this) and make sure you've got folder options in explorer set so you can view hidden files (google how to show hidden folders) and go into your ipod in My Computer and go to ipod_control and delete Ituneslock file
Remember whenever you connect your ipod to your computer
go into the folder and see if this file is there, and delete it before opening up itunes.
It's been preventing the manditory "RESTORE YOUR IPOD" BS for me so far.

Sorry I wasn't very clear.
Okay so go into your ipod in my computers, go into ipod_control then go into the itunes folder, and delete ituneslock if it's there. Do this everytime you connect your ipod before opening up itunes.

  • Possible fix for errors 11503 and 50

Here's a possible fix for Error 11503 and for error 50.
It worked for me and hopefully it will work for you.
I believe this error is caused by the incomplete downloading of either an update to an app. In my case it was caused by closing the lid on my laptop when I was downloading app updates on a very slow internet connection in a hotel.
Anyway, here is what I did that fixed it completely.
    Close iTunes.
    Go to this folder : /iTunes/Mobile Applications/Downloads
You'll find tmp files there. Drag them out of this folder to a temporary folder on your desktop. The Downloads folder should now be empty.
    Restart iTunes.
    All should be fine.
If it is, delete the desktop folder with all the temp files.
If it's not, then I can't help further, but that's what worked for me.

Several possible causes from the info you gave
Battery level low - recharge it for at least 4 hours till the full charge sign displays (2 prong icon instead of lightning icon).
Time to Reset the iPod - Press the Menu and center Button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON, then let go of the buttons.
your hardisk is starting to give problems, hence the skipping and some song refuse to play. - Do a disk diagnostic - follow this post by tt2.
         https://discussions.apple.com/message/17028567#17028567
If you have updated any sofware application in Windows, then follow this Apple support procedure
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1539
Most likely you have to do all, as the iPod hardisk filesystem would have been corrupted, or else the iPod Reset would bring it to normal operation.
    Good Luck!

  • Possible fix for OS X 10.5.7,  losing connection after sleep, restart

Possible fix for OS X 10.5.7, Airport, losing connection after sleep, restart, or cold reboot.
Issue: (For OS X 10.5.7 on iMac5,1, Intel Core 2 Duo)
    =============================================
    - After sleep, restart, cold reboot, even though cannot connect to Internet, but the AirPort bars are still full, as if connected.
    - Losing Internet connection after sleep, restart, cold reboot.
    Possible Fix:
1.Open Network Preference, click on the Location drop down list > Edit Location... > click on the wheel button > Duplicate Location.
a)Select this newly setup location; Use Diagnostic button to connect to the internet. Select Network or enter WEP password if necessary.
b)Test to make sure you can connect to a web page.
c)Go to sleep & wake up.
d)This time, the Airport bar will start to show correctly. Before, it will always be full even when not connected. Now there will be no bars or grey out when not connected.
2.On the left hand side of the Network Preference Window, there is a list of services, such as Airport, build-in ethernet, built-in FireWire, bluetooth, etc.
a)Click on the wheel button on the bottom of the service list; select Set Service Order...; move Airport to the top of the list.
b)Delete any services which you are sure that you are not going to use, such as Bluetooth, etc.
3.Pick one of the locations mentioned in #1, and make it sure it is connected. If not, use Diagnostic button. If you have to select Network or enter WEP password to connect, make it so.
a)Check to make sure you can connect to a web page.
4.Go to sleep & wake up. The Airport bar should be filled up quickly. Try to connect to a web page.
5.Restart computer. Test a web page.
6.Shut down & Start computer. Test a web page.
7.When everything is working fine, you can delete the extra location that you created in step #1.
8.Click the lock on the left lower corner of the Network Preference window to safeguard the setting.

If my assessment is correct, the LIDE 200 driver is version 14.8.1 and dated 26-Sep-2008. It is possible that the driver will not work with the latest version of OSX. I would advise that you contact Canon and ask them the question.
(Removed link because of the way Flash drives the Canon site).
It is not uncommon (though irritating) that devices no longer work when an OS is upgraded. One has to ask the question if (or why) the driver was not written in such a way as to be OS version independent.
    Chris
I spoke to Canon over here in Australia. Not helpful at all. In fact they were about as useful as an ashtray on on motorcycle. Having said that the tech seemed to think that there would be an update soon. But that is assuming that Canon are aware that there is a problem with that Scanner under OS X 10.5.7.

  • I need help fixing an ipod classic 5g why isnt it making music?

im fixing an ipod classic 5g 30gb and i got it a new battery and audio jack/hold switch but it doesnt produce music other than the clicking when you scroll the wheel i traded out mother boards out of an identical broken ipod (thats only problem was it had a scratched up case and the battery strip was torn)incase it was just the the harddrive pin connector thing being broken so it should make noise but ive tried plugging it into speakers and headphones that work on everything else it's just the ipod wont make noise idk what to do ive even went to the settings and made sure the volume limit was set right but still please dont tell me the new audio jack i waited almost 3 weeks in the mail for is broken  -_-

To verify whether or not it is an issue with the headphone jack or logic board, have you tried placing the iPod onto a dock with a dock connector and had it output sound via the dock instead of the headphone jack?

  • IPod Classic 4 keeps crashing

My iPod Classic 4 keeps crashing after I turn it on. I press home/menu button, then the Apple logo appears and several moments afterwards a picture of a iPod with a sad face appears and beneath it says apple.com/support/ipod and then it turns off.
Before that I put iPod to disc mode and put it into the computer. PC didn't recognize it and I took the cable out and it started restarting and turning on over and over again. I somehow managed to stop that but now the problem above appears.

    Hi...
Try this support article >  iPod displays a sad iPod icon
If nothing there helps, take your iPod in for service > Apple - Find Locations
Or send it in >  Apple - Support - iPod Service Request

  • Fixing an ipod classic with red x

this is what I found for fixing an ipod classic that shows a red x... sounds rough but it worked. with the usb port facing down slam it on a hard surface. it wil make a whirring sound and reset its self. three people had that listed as a fix to the problem. i was reluctant on acualy doing it but i ran out of options and it worked.

The reason, you found it, is because the owner threw it away, as the Red X mean that there is a hardware failure, most likely the hardisk need to be replaced.
There is not much here, we can suggest to fix it, other than to bring it in to any 3rd Party iPod service vendor to replace the hardisk.

  • Possible Fix for Printing Problems in Leopard

I got this information from Mac OS X Leopard Edition book by David Pogue. Here's his possible fix for printing problems in Leopard...Open web browser and enter this address http://127.0.0.1:631. You'll find youself at a secret "front end" for CUPS (Common UNIX Printer System), the underlying printing technology for Mac OS X 10.5. This trick lets your Mac communicate with a huge array of older printers that dopn't yet have Mac OS X drivers. Using this administration screen, you can print a test page, stop your printer in its tracks, manage your networked printers and print jobs, and more–a very slick trick. Haven't tried it yet...anyone who does let me know how it worked!

If you literally "checked" them, meaning the checkboxes, that only affects their visibility. To remove them, select one and then click on the "minus" part of the "plus minus" at lower left.

  • I06 update keeps prompting me to restore my iPhone and has deleted everything from my phone. Please help

Please help. While trying to upgrade to the i06 it keeps prompting me to restore over and over

    Maybe here:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .

  • Possible fix for unable to eject ipod, files are in use by another program

If you get the above message and are using itunes 7, this may be a possible fix. Open itunes and connect your ipod. When you get the main screen, uncheck the box "open itunes when this ipod is connected" and then click apply in the lower right of the screen. After your ipod has finished updating (top of itunes says update complete) you must eject the ipod using the safely remove hardware from your tray in the taskbar. Unplug you ipod, close itunes. Now, open itunes and connect your ipod. After it updates, you should safely remove the ipod. Good luck.
    pc   Windows XP Pro

Easy way. Reset the iPod, then disconnect when you see the Apple logo.
Another way. Hold ctr-alt-del to bring up the Windows Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab and look for iTunesHelper.exe and iPodService.exe. Select them and hit the End Process button. Close the Windows Task Manager Window and try ejecting the iPod via the safely remove hardware method.

If you are still having problems you can try one more thing. Right click on the My Computer icon and select Manage from the list of actions. Go to the Services and Applications item and from there the services item. Double click on the services item to bring up the list of services currently installed on your computer. Look for the iPod Service and double click on it. From the new window select Stop. Now try again to eject using the safely remove hardware option.

If all else fails shut down the computer and disconnect the iPod.

  • A Possible Fix for Your Frozen 5G iPod (WindowsXP)

I fixed my iPod this way hopefully you can fix yours. The symptoms plaguing my iPod were the same as everyone elses:
This thread contains all of the problems I was having: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=528158&tstart=60
Couldn't mount, couldn't restore, I couldn't even Format the iPod in Windows. BUT my iPod did work on another machine. I believe that 2006-3-23 update actually broke something within my computer (somewhere around that time is when it stopped working give or take ~2 weeks). So here's what I did to fix it.
Boot your computer up in Safe Mode (hold F8).
Once booted, go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager.
scroll down to the Universal Serial Bus section and open up the drop down menu so you can see everything. Now, you are going to be uninstalling the USB ROOT HUB or something of that nature (I have a dell computer and this is what it's named in my comp). You should see several USB ROOT HUB items, these correspond with your USB ports. Right click each of them and then click uninstall. It will prompt you, say OK. Do this for each one. DO NOT uninstall the one's that are listed according to your chipset. i.e. Intel 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller. The reason i say this is because I don't know what it does if you do uninstall those. So, your mouse will stop working once you uninstall the USB ROOT HUB that your mouse is connected to. Use your keyboard arrows (I have a PS/2 keyboard, you may need to dig one out of retirement) to scroll down and then just hit the delete key to prompt the uninstall. Once you've uninstalled all of these, unplug every device connected via USB. Then reboot your machine (not in safe mode). Once up and running, open itunes and plug in your ipod voila!
    A couple things to note:
-I was able to Format and Restore my ipod on another machine before doing this, but it did not fix the problem until I did the above fix.
-Don't worry about uninstalling the ROOT HUBS because they reinstall once you reboot.
-This was the ONLY THING that fixed my iPod. Formating and restoring DID NOT WORK.
-I would also uninstall/reinstall itunes and the ipod updater before performing these steps.
-Use this updater if for some reason you deem it necessary http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20060110.html
Good Luck May the Force be with you (literally) I am never purchasing another Apple Product again.

  • A possible fix for adobe reader icons on windows 2000 with SP4

*This is not a problem! I am posting here because I have received help from some other part of this problem and I have read in other places where people have problems with making the pdf icon appear.*
If the icons won't show after installing adobe reader 9 on your computer, then there is a possible fix you guys can try. Right click on 'Start' for explorer or click on 'My Computer'.
Click Tools > Folder Options > File Types (tab)
Try to find the pdf extension in that long list of extensions.
Below the 'Change...' button, it should read 'Restore' (i'm not sure about this). Click on it once so that it should now read 'Advanced'.
The restore function is to restore the icons to those files which have lost their identities, so to speak.

No issues when setting back as per you instruction below.
    Thank you very much.
Why would I have such an experience in the first place?

The 1st and 2nd gen shuffles do not have an automatic syncing mode, like later shuffles and the "big" iPods.  It is maintained manually (or by using the Autofill feature).
If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The shuffle appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES, when connected.
To add songs to the shuffle...  Show a list of songs in the iTunes window.  For example, you can select Music under LIBRARY (in the sidebar) to show your complete iTunes music library list.  Select a song and drag it to the shuffle in the sidebar.  You can do this with more than one song selected.  Alternately, select the song(s), right-click the selection, and choose the command to Add to Playlist -> [name of iPod].
To remove songs from the shuffle...  Select the shuffle in the sidebar.  To the right, it's Settings screen is shown.  Toward the top, where it says Settings, click on On This iPod (to the right).  The list of songs on the shuffle is shown below.  Select the song you want to remove and press Delete on the keyboard.  You can do this with more than one song selected.
NOTE:  At the bottom of the shuffle's list of songs, there are controls for the Autofill feature.  You can also use Autofill to fill your shuffle from your music library or from a specific playlist.

  • Possible Fix for the 3.1.1 app crash problem

THIS IS A POSSIBLE FIX ONLY!!!
So like many of you I upgraded to 3.1.1 and after the update all of my apps would no longer work. They contiually crashed to the home screen when I tried to open them. I tried downloading random new apps, deleting all my apps and re-installing them with no luck. I tried reseting the iPod and even restoring it through iTunes. I also tried de-authorizing and re-authorizing my computer. None of these things worked for me. Today I tried to go back to the 2.2.1 update (which is the only one I could find that would download) when I tried to upload that onto my iPod I got an error #20 so I ended up restoring back to 3.1.1 the only difference was i told iTunes to start my iPod as a new one instead of loading it from a backup. This actually worked, the only downside was I lost my favourited websites and all the saved info in my apps but hey, atleast they work.
So long story short try wiping your iPod clean and restoring as a brand new one with the 3.1.1 and it might just just work.

I just purchased the 64GB iPod touch and it had the same issues from the start. While I had the same issue with the apps I also had intermittent problems with movies not working. I reset the entire iPod touch 64gb and re-synced as 'new' (described earlier) and it is working for now. I am planning on loading some new apps and movies and re-syncing to see if it stays working.
Also, I upgraded from 3.1.1 to 3.1.2 and everything stopped working again. I am staying on 3.1.1 as long as this solution keeps working until I see something from Apple addressing this issue.
Apple usually does a better job with their software. I am hoping that this is only a software issue and not a hardware issue.

  • IPod Classic 160 keeps syncing large part of library

Every time I connect my Ipod Classic iTunes (version 12.01.26, running on Windows 8.1) syncs thousands of tracks that already were on the iPod.
I've got the settings for Sync music set for 'Entire music library'.
It's not such a huge problem, however it is quite time consuming to wait for 25%-30% of all the 14k+ tracks to sync and I cannot figure out why it's doing it. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I already tried a 'Restore iPod' but that had no effect.

I think I found the cause: I use Sony's Media Go for managing my smartphone, using the same music files/library. When open MG, it starts to automatically add/change tags/metadata (for instance adding genre tags that I had deleted manually in iTunes). So each time want to sync my iPod in iTunes it will determine to sync all those tracks that have been modified by Media Go. I will try to make MG leave the files alone, I'm quite sure that will do the trick. Thanks anyway!
