Windows recognizes iPod classic, but it won't play and iTunes doesn't see

Last week, I was playing my iPod classic on my work computer using iTunes. When one song ended, it was unable to find the next one. Then it was unable to find any songs. (I got the "!" next to the songs and they wouldn't play.) I unplugged the iPod and tried to play it with headphones, but when a song is selected, it doesn't play. Eventually, it will simply reset. I've tried the iPod on several computers, but the result is always the same - the computer recognizes the iPod, but iTunes does not. Any help???? I sure don't want to lose all my music if I can help it.

I have not. Because I use my iPod on several computers and due to limited hard drive space, I have not kept a full library of my iPod's inventory. Because of that, I suspect a restore will delete most of my library. I have just about everything saved elsewhere, but a large number of my recordings aren't in the song database and the track info will have to be manually entered again if my iPod's music files are lost. I will do a restore if I can't figure out another way or if I'm able to retrieve my iPod's files, but have held off on that as a last resort.

If she bought them using the iTunes app on the phone they should have automatically downloaded. iTunes Match has nothing to do with iTunes-purchased content; it is only for content from other sources. Launch the iTunes Store app on her phone, tap on More, Purchased, Music. Do they show up? Do they show as downloaded?

  • 80G ipod is frozen on 'Do not Disconnect' and itunes doesn't recognize it

I tried to sync my ipod, but the device became frozen and thinks it's still on hold. Can't restart device, and can't eject device because the device is not found in itunes or in my applications. Usually when i plug in the device with my USB, itunes opens and begins syncing automatically, but itunes doesn't even open now. I've already tried:
    restarting computer (twice)
checking for and installing all updates (once)
restarting ipod (holding pause + menu for 10 seconds) (three times)
connecting and reconnecting device (a bunch of times)
My partner just took the frozen ipod to his office to connect to his macbook pro to see if anything happens there. Any advice?

    I am in the same boat - trying to fix an ipod for a friend. I can see it on the desktop but iTunes wont see it. I read a post that said the 5th gens have hard drive issues. One way to find out, put it in the freezer for 30-60 minutes. Then iTunes finds it. Hard drive problem. {I do not support this advice, but only share what I found via a google search.}
First check out this link to try the reset again

  • Windows recognizes Ipod mini but itunes does not.

i have been having problems lately with windows recognizing my ipod but itunes will not. i have gone to the support page and have tried everything on their twice now and still nothing. i got the updater to recognize it at one point and hit restore but halfway through it said cannot mount and now all my songs are gone.

If your iPod is recognized in "my computer", changing the drive letter can sometimes resolve this issue.
Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time.
    These also may help.
Fast user switching in Windows XP is not supported.
    Strange iPod behavior.

  • Computer recognize IPOD classic but ITunes doesn't

My laptop has my ipod listed in my computer.  But my ipod is not recognized by itunes.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes with no help.  I have reset the ipod and all my songs and videos are listed on the ipod but when I clicked to play them I just get a blank screen.  I have stop and restarted the ipod service and apple mobile device on my laptop.  I have used all the advice from the ipod assistant with no help.  Is there anything I have missed? I have tried everything.  Is my ipod fried?

  • ITunes freezes, can't update ipod, windows and itunes doesn't see my pod

I have a 2nd gen Ipod with the really sensitive buttons under the screen and whenever I try to plug my ipod into my PC w/xp nothing good happens. It used to be fine about a month ago and now its screwing up. I never dropped it or did anything bad to it.
    I plug it in.
I get a windows error message in the bottom right that says "this blah blah blah has malfunctioned and windows can not recognize it"
That message soon goes away and windows makes that little ding sound.
After that iTunes just freezes up. I cant minimize it, play songs, or do anything. completely frozen.
My Computer doesnt even see it.
The ipod flashes "do not disconnect" until I unplug it.
When I unplug it itunes starts working after a couple seconds.
Sometimes it will completely drain the battery right after I charge it fully and it will reset itself and stay off.
    anybody know whats goin on?
Ive done pretty much everything on this website to fix it and nothing.

Are you sure that there is no way to change the
    format?
I never said there wasn't a way to change the
    format.
To change the format, select it in iTunes on the Mac
    and select Restore.
I am having a similar issue with my daughters ipod nano. It was formatted for windows when we bought it (we have the songs on a mac) but it only downloads some of her library not all. Having looked in some of the forums it suggests restoring however when we plug the ipod into the mac the button for restoring the ipod to factory settings is not highlighted. In this case how can the ipod be restored to a mac setting? We are using the latest itunes software and OSX operating system.

  • TS3297 I've downloaded a track but it won't play in iTunes...

When the time code moves from 00.00 to 00.01 the track stops as if it has finished. Can anyone help?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
