Windows Remote Agent upgrade 4.0 to 4.1

I have upgraded my Cisco ACS 1113 Engines from 4.0 to 4.1 using an ACS Recovery CD provided by Cisco TAC. I am now in the process of uninstalling the 4.0 remote agent and installing the remote agent on the 4.1 Recovery CD.
During installation of the Remote Agent the version indicates v1 which is the same as the 4.0 version.
Is there any difference in the remote agents for 4.0 and 4.1?
Do I need to download the 4.1 Remote agent separately?
This is the version of the ACS
Cisco Secure ACS 4.1.1.23
Appliance Management Software 4.1.1.23
Appliance Base Image 4.1.1.4
CSA build 4.0.1.543.2 (Patch: 4_0_1_543)

Hi,
Please ignore that ver 1 that we get during installation.
Go ahead and install the 4.1 remote agent and check it ver from DOS ,
On RA computer go to dos and change prompt to
C:\Program Files\Cisco\CiscoSecure ACS Agent\bin
Type csagent.exe -v and press Enter
It will show you the actual ver of remote agent.

  • Windows Remote Agent Failover timeout (ACS 4.2)

    Hey everybody,
I'm using two Windows 2003 Servers with local users as External User Databases (so they're both usind the \LOCAL domain) for my ACS 4.2 appliance. I've added the machines as Windows Remote Agents and configured them as Primary and Secondary Remote Agents. In general, all this works great including the failover. However, if the primay machine actually fails, it takes about 10 - 15 minutes until the ACS uses the secondary server for authentication. Is there any way to adjust the failover timers? As far as I understand, the Remote Agent response timeout setting on the Remote Agent selection page is only for retrieving the Windows groups for group mapping. I've lowered this setting but it didn't have an effect on my problem.
Can anybody tell me more about the failover mechanism here? Does the ACS simply wait for the Primary Remote Agent for a while and then proceed to the Secondary? How long is failover supposed to take? Can any adjustments be made?
Any hints will be much appreciated!

    Hi,
sorry for the long delay, it took a while to collect the necessary data.
A few comments on the logs. I've abbreviated them to the relevant parts (in my opinion) to make things a little easier to find.
Also, I had to change IP addresses and hostnames (but kept them consistent to represent our actual IP settings).
    This is our set-up:
    Hostname
    IP Adress
    ACS
    10.10.10.10
    CSWinAgent_1
    10.11.11.16
    CSWinAgent_2
    10.10.10.16
Please note that the system clocks are not in sync. I've tried to help with some comments in the logs (marked with ***)
    I tested the following:
    1. Only CSWinAgent_2 is running, everything working fine.
    2. Also started CSWinAgent_1 (see log at 21:47:14)
-> authentication still working (not in the logs)
    2. Shut down the service on CSWinAgent_2 (21:52:37)
    3. 5 unsuccessful authentication attempts for 15 minutes (see ACS log)
    4. First successful attempt (ACS log, 22:06:33)
    5. Another fail (strange) and successful login from another client (ACS log, 22:08:01)
    6. Shut down the service on CSWinAgent_1 (22:04:47)
    7. Started the service on CSWinAgent_2 (22:09:48)
    8. Failed attempt (ACS log, 22:09:03)
    9. Successful attempt after < 1min (ACS log, 22:09:11)
I would appreciate any ideas and information on how and in which timeframe the switchover process is supposed to work.
Thank you very much for your help.

  • More than one Windows ACS Remote Agent

We recently added a second Windows Remote Agent to have Windows authentication service available for our two ACS.
Agent definition (CSAgent.ini) is correct but in Network Configration - Remote Agent (on each ACS web console) we see that the second Remote Agent is "available" but "not in use" (while the first one is, of course).
If we stop the CSAgent Service on the first Remote Agent server, we do not see any activity on the second one (auth not working) and service still remains "avilable" but "not in use".
Then, debugging with csagent.exe -z -p all we can see is something like:
    Debug printing on..

You must use ACS Remote Agent for Windows, version 4.0, with ACS Solution Engine, version 4.0. Other releases of Cisco Secure ACS are not supported.
The following URL may help you:

  • Remote Agent for ACS for Windows 2008 R2 64-bit

    Hi,
We having difficulties with installing remote agent on windows 2008 R2 64-bit server and got the attached error.
Our ACS is 4.2.0.124 and remote agents we tried are :Remote-Agent-ACSse-win-v4.2.1.15-K9.zip and Acs-4.2.1.15.9-RA.zip.
I see following urls says it does not support Windows 2008 R2 and also 64-bit Windows,
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3135061#3135061
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_server_for_solution_engine/4.2/installation/guide/remote_agent/rawi.html#wp289019
However following url says its support 2008 R2 with 64-bit version
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_server_for_windows/4.2.1/Release_Notes/acs421_rn.html
Appreciate if someone can adivse us what vesion (file name) of Remote Agent can support (or working) for Windows 2008 R2 64-bit.
    thanks in advance

    Hi Tarik,
What I wanted to say that the below url says that ACS 4.2 does not support on 64-bit OS:
    ACS Requirements
You must use ACS Remote Agent for Windows, version 4.2, with ACS SE, version 4.2. We do not support other Cisco Secure ACS releases.
Note ACS Remote Agent 4.2 for Windows does not support 64-bit operating systems.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_server_for_solution_engine/4.2/installation/guide/remote_agent/rawi.html#wp289019
However could you please let me know what exact Remote Agent file you recommend to use for windwos 2008 R2 64-bit Server. The ACS SE version that I have is 4.2.0.124.
    Thanks

  • Monitoring Microsoft Windows 2008 Active Directory by a remoted Agent

Oracle documentation (E14542-01) said that for remote Agent monitoring with default settings, Grid Control can monitor only the Active Directory associated with the primary domain controller.
But for Microsoft Windows 2008 Active Directory primary domain doesn't exist anymore, can we use a remote Agent to monitor Microsoft Windows 2008 Active Directory ?
    Thanks

  • ACS appliance 3.2.2.5 Remote Agents for Windows DB disappear

I have two ACS boxes: one is ACSNT and the other an ACS appliance. Both run 3.2.2.5 and have been in production for quite some time. The ACSNT box is the primary and replicates to the appliance as backup. These units authenticate to three different Windows domains: 2 NT domains and 1 AD.
Recently I just added support for RSA 6.0 servers. Not wanting to mess with the client install on the ACSNT box, I set it up as a RADIUS token server as you do on the appliance. It works just fine on the ACSNT box. On the appliance, however, my Windows external DB quit working with "external db not operational" messages. I rebuilt the Windows external DB, recreated the group mappings, added the remote agents, etc. Things were working fine. I recreated the RSA config and still the Windows DB was working although the RSA config was not working (still working on that if TAC ever calls me back). A few hours later, I decided to check the Windows DB and it was broken again. I checked it out and the remote agents were somehow deleted. Nothing in the logs show it but they were gone. I recreated them and it worked again. This has happened twice now. Does anybody have any advice? The logs show nothing to indicate a problem on the appliance exists and of course the docs state that there should be no problem with both a RADIUS and Windows DBs living together on the same box. All comments welcome!
    Thanks,
    Rik

Sorry it took so long to get back...I've been out of the office for a few days.
I did check the the docs for issues like this but found nothing. The TAC Engineer escalated it and both engineers kept saying my new RSA servers were causing my issues. However, a simple reboot of the box (it is built on Win2K after all...) cleared up all of the strange issues.
    Thanks,
    Rik Guyler

  • "The Page Cannot Be Displayed" error when clicking the Remote Agent

Hi everyone! We have installed ACS SE 4.0 and we have added a remote agent running on Windows Server 2003. Recently, we are encountering "The page cannot be displayed" error when we click the RA under a network device group. This is resolved by rebooting the ACS SE appliance and accessing the ACS SE web console again but after few hours, problem reoccurs. Clicking the links on the ACS SE web console is okay at first but after clicking the RA, every link shows the error "The page cannot be displayed." Hope you could help us on this problem. Anyone's support is very much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi JG,
Thank you so much for your response. Does Cisco have a documentation that states that this is a known issue with 4.0, such as release notes, for we might need this for the proposal upgrade?
    Again, thanks a lot!

  • Symantec Backup Remote Agent Failing

    Hello,
N00b here. My IT Support at my company has Symantec Backup Exec 12 for Windows Servers setup to backup our Macs. Their saying on my Mac, the backup remote agent keeps failing. It fails randomly. Sometimes it will be working for 2 weeks and then all of a sudden it fails. He says he usually has to go into Terminal and run the following commands if the agent has failed to restart it:
    cd /Library/Startupitems/VRTSrams
    sudo ./VRTSrams start
Can anyone help me to why it's continuously failing? If this is the wrong forum, don't shoot me.
    Thanks in advance.

Norton stuff has a glorious reputation for messing up Macs.
This is not Norton the OP is referring to. This is the client for Symantec's BackupExec application...entirely unrelated to Norton. So please don't give false hope for software the OP is not even using.
    Now... Rockets4Life,
What version of BackupExec are you running? We run 11d and 12.5 without issues on Macs, so you may want to look into upgrading if possible. However, we did see the same issue you're seeing on one of our Linux boxes and doing a Google search showed that it was a common issue among Linux installations.
We remedied by configuring the Linux box to run a cron task every 15 minutes to run the RALUS startup command and it worked fine ever since. You may want to try the same.
Also, you should also post your question on Symantec's forums, as if there is a definitive solution, you'll probably find it there: http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums

  • ACS 4.2 Remote agent compatibility issues.

I have been doing a bit of reading on the ACS 4.2 remote agent compatibility with Windows 2008 R2, and it seems like the only way out is to upgrade the ACS to 5.2. We have Cisco ACS 4.2 SE and I would want someone to confirm that what if I install the Remote agent on a Windows 2003 member server instead of the 2008 R2 DC. Will such a scenario work?
    Feedback is appreciated.
    Regards

Yes, here is this one which has a bug documented with this information CSCtg37183 :
    http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?method=fetchBugDetails&bugId=CSCtg37183
    Extracted from previous link:
    ACS 4.x doesn't support 2008 R2 Server for AD.
    Symptom:
ACS 4.x does not support authentication to a backend 2008 R2 Active Directory server.
    Conditions:
    ACS 4.x
Windows Server 2008 R2 installed on Domain Controller
ACS or remote agent installed on any member server in the environment (even if the server is 2003/2008)
    Workaround:
Install the ACS or Remote Agent on a 2003/2008 domain controller
Cisco doesn't support this scenario because sometimes work fine other doesn't work at all, so nobody wants an unstable network right, unfortunately the workaround doesn't help much. Although there is an ACS 5.2 trial version that you can test, let me know so I can get you the links.

The wording in the original error "Version Check failed to Match" makes me think this is similar to something I encountered once after installing a small patch release. You need to make sure the Agent installed on the remote machine is the same version as the controller.
e.g. If you had installed OATSv9.00 on both controller and agent machines and then upgraded JUST the controller to OATSv9.01 the controller would no longer be able to talk to the v9.00 agent on the remote machine.
I could be wrong, but that's essentially what I found with one of the earlier v8 upgrades.
Try upgrading the agent on your remote machine(s) with the same installation you have on your controller (but only install the agent, not the whole OATS paclage).

There are some important steps to take prior to doing the upgrade.  Review this MS posted document. Be sure to run the upgrade assistant.
Be sure that Windows 8 has all of the latest MS updates installed. There are prerequisite patches that are required.
Be sure that you have at least 40 GB of hard disk free space.
Back up your data to external media.
Make a Windows 8 recovery media to external media before doing the upgrade.  I prefer to use a third party hard drive imaging program.
    Temporarily disable the antivirus software.
You will need to reinstall your programs after the upgrade so make note of which ones are required.

I've been running 64-bit Windows 8 Consumer Preview very nicely for several months and want to upgrade to 64-bit Windows Pro on my Pavilion a1440n. When I've tried to install from within the OS I get weird messages indicating that it can't be installed on a USB Flash drive (which I'm not trying to do). When I tried doing a clean install I got an odd message saying that certain installer files were missing and it would not complete. I called Microsoft customer support and the agent there thought my cpu would work because it wouldn't support Hyper-V, even though I understand that it optional. From running coreinfo.exe I can see that I have the PAE, NX, and SSE2 on the cpu enabled as meets requirements.
When I ran through th HP site I saw that this machine has not been tested. Is there any way of getting confirmation that Windows 8 Pro 64-bit will or won't run on my machine? The HP Product code for it is ER904AA#ABA.
    Thanks!

  • SCOM 2012 R2 agent upgrade fails crippling agents

Running into a large amount of SCOM agents that are failing the upgrade from 2012 SP1 to R2 and would appreciate any feedback from my SCOM community colleagues.  Warning this issue is not for the faint of heart.
    Plan:
I am in the process of upgrading 1900 manually installed SCOM 2012 SP1 agents to R2.  I am using SCCM to deliver the upgrade using the standard sanctioned upgrade parameters.
    Momagent.msi /qn /l*v %SystemDrive%\SCOM2012AgentUpgrade.log AcceptEndUserLicenseAgreement=1
    Problem:
I have run into a problem where on a larger group of systems, 165 servers, where the upgrade fails and leaves the agent in a crippled state.  At this point the agent cannot be removed cleanly via add remove, nor can a straight install of the agent
be done.  What is required is a manual removal of registry keys and then a clean install of the agent can be performed to remediate.  This is no problem and I am able to do this.  (Note: all other methods of agent removal did not work ie:
    Cleanmom.exe utility or add remove)
    Task:
Seeing that we need to do agent upgrades in the future it would be great to know why this happened so we can plan for this in the future.
    Notes:
Seems like a random sample of servers (2003/2008) with different applications running on them so that doesn't help in narrowing things down.
Looking at the MSI log, I see a common issue among systems that had this problem.

Ok so the obvious is that the installer is looking for original source installation files and not able to find them. What is surprising to me however is that the product references a 32 bit scom agent guid
387306D9-78CE-4E0E-B952-28A50CC8B3EE, however this is a 64 bit machine.  Our build process dictates that a 64 bit machine only receive a 64 bit SCOM agent.
Doing a search on this product guid I realized I skipped some other references at the top of the MSI log that might offer some more explanation...

Well that is interesting, seems to me that in the first line the MSI installer reads the OM_OM12_SP1_AGENT_FOUND property and identifies this with a  64 bit agent guid (8B21425D-02F3-4B80-88CE-8F79B320D330), but then appends
the 32 bit guid at the end (387306D9-78CE-4E0E-B952-28A50CC8B3EE).  This is the point of my confusion and my suspicion as the cause of the problem I am having.
    Concluding thoughts:
Why does the installer seems to first recognizes a 64 bit agent, but then later changes it's property to include a 32 bit agent guid.  Could a 32 bit agent have got on this 64 bit server based on the details of this log?  Would this
cause my agents to fail the upgrade?  I think so, but looking to bounce this over to another fellow SCOM colleague who may have wrestled with this before.
Thanks in advance if you took the time to read this and think about it.  Extra points if you have any extra thoughts!

  • System won't turn off, restart, hibernate or sleep after Windows 8.1 upgrade

    Help, please!!
Two days ago in windows 8 store popped up an update to windows 8.1 for my pc. I am an owner of two notebook PC-s, both Lenovo, G580(which upgraded successfully without any issues, also it has intel inside) and G585(which upgraded without any issues, untill
the set up completed and it booted up, it has AMD)
So the AMD one, Lenovo G585, refuses to shut down, restart, sleep or hibernate, the only way to shut it down is to force it to turn off, meaning i have to press the power button for a couple of seconds. Along with other issues this is the only one i wasn't
able to resolve. I have contacted my Lenovo support and they said there is nothing they can do and that i can only wait for an update... and in the meantime am i supposed to let this windows 8.1 upgrade
    mess up my new notebook?
Ok, so i was stupid enough not to run windows 8 backup before i started this update, silly me, thinking what could go wrong, it's not like M$ described this upgrade as something like evolution of the century,
but enough about that, i have tried every possible solution, updated my drivers, run admin cmd and typed powercfg -devicequery wake_armed - it displayed NONE, typed powercfg -lastwake - it displayed wake history count - 0, i tried entering BIOS and checking
if there is anything in there i could possibly change, found nothing, tried disabling hibernate, still nothing, and each time i try putting my pc in one of those states the screen turns off, and it all seems like the pc will any moment and yet nothing it just
stays on for countless hours unless i once again force it to shut down, also when in sleep mode no keys work for waking it up, mouse and keyboard are meaningless, the only button that works is the power button which turns it off completely and then i can turn
it on all the way from the begining, so far at least that makes me happy, but continuing like this i will mess up my PC.
    PC specs:
    OS - Windows 8.1 x64, came preinstalled Windows 8 x64
Processor: AMD E-300 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.30GHz
    RAM: 4GB
Microsoft, any solutions to this one?

Last week I put a new hard drive in and loaded Windows 8 instead of Windows 7 (which I was previously using), it is a legit copy I had purchased and downloaded from Microsoft when Windows 8 first came out.  I had problems with activation, called Microsoft
and they remotely connected fixing the problem.  Sleep Mode worked until it did the 8.1 upgrade. Now the System will not turn off, Sleep or Hibernate.  If I go to Sleep or Hibernate, the monitor turns off, hard drive turns off, but the fans are still
running.  Try to wake up with mouse and nothing happens, have to hit the restart button.  If I try to shut down, it does the same thing, I can only shut down by holding the button.  I have tried everything suggested here, nothing has worked.
I would reload, but don't want to have to go through the problem of activating again.  The system32>sfc /scannow found nothing wrong, network adapter is not allowed to wake the computer, sharing turned off, and disabled the hybrid-shutdown-feature.
Computer has been scanned and re-scanned, not infections.  Video driver was re-installed.  I have checked all settings in BIOS.
I was hoping that someone has found a solution to this problem.
    Intel Pentium D CPU 3.73GHz

    NVIDA GeForce 9800 GT x 2 (SLI)

  • 802.1x and Remote Agent

AD 2000 Domain, ACS appliance (running 3.3.1), remote agent on the Certificate authority. setup PEAP per instructions.
When i try to login with a user on a desktop, it errors out. This is the error message i see in the RemoteAgent logs
    CSWinAgent 02/03/2005 17:13:56 A 0048 0604 NTLIB: Attempting Windows authentication for user RFI5771

    CSWinAgent 02/03/2005 17:13:56 A 0048 0604 NTLIB: nt_GetUsersNTGroups failed
Its funny. With my ID, everything works (dot1x gets authenticated, dynamically assigned VLAN, properly authenticated.
But I can't get it to work with any other user. Thinking that there was a rights issue Service account, i tested with a Domain admin account. No avail.
Any thoughts? I tested this whole setup in a lab with ACS for windows and it works like a charm. Getting it to work with the appliance has been a bit challenging.

    Hi,
Did you ever get to the bottom of this issue. I have the same issue with ACS 3.3.3 for windows. I have not seen this issue on any other ACS Win / Appliance installs.
    Thanks in advance

  • 2012 Upgrade to R2 - Client Protection Agent Upgrade - Reboot?

MSFT states in their upgrade doc for DPM 2012 R2 "You must upgrade all of the protection agents. This might require a restart of the protected computer."
What has been your experience reboot/no reboot as I know agent upgrades during past couple years (updates) haven't required a reboot?
If have to do reboot not good as I have over 175+ production machines.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
DPM 2012 R2 UR3 agent update does a require a reboot and it is documented several places in the UR3
    article.
Note This UR3 agent update requires you to restart protected servers in order to create or change protection groups. VM backups may fail in Windows Server 2012 R2 until the server is restarted.
    Important information
We recommend that you restart the protected computer after you apply the Update Rollup 3 Agent update.
If Protected Computers are not restarted after you apply Update Rollup 3, the following things can occur:

It says recommend, not required. Like I said, at least 1 agent I updated using the DPM Console went straight to OK, no reboot required. The others went to reboot required, but after removing the registry flag, worked fine. I pointed the servers are the new
DPM install (new datacenter) and was able to recreate all of the protection groups with no issues. We are only backing up Server 2012/Server 2012 R2 servers though (both hyperV and SQL clusters), so maybe the issues are for 2k8 servers.
