Windows samba share shows "zero KB" for file size....

Upgraded, clean install, to leopard and now I see "Zero KB" for file size on my Windows Home Server samba shares. Before the upgrade all that info was displayed but afterwards that info is gone. The only changed on my network was upgrading to Leopard. My linux samba server still works perfectly with 10.5 but the windows samba shares are not. I can browse, mount and copy files to and from the windows samba shares but the file size info isn't displayed. The file size isn't even displayed when I "Get Info" on a file. Previously using 10.4 all was working perfectly and all info was displayed and or was available if I wanted it. Not sure if it is something to do with how Windows Home Server handles samba or if it is how Leopard handles windows samba shares. No settings were changed on my network from when I was running 10.4. The only change on my home network/hardware has been upgrading to Leopard! No other changes were made to any servers or computers that were previously working perfectly with 10.4. Other than this "Zero KB" issue all has gone quite smoothly.

I removed the . (and moved the directory to match) but I still have the same issue.

    This "error note" must have something to do about it?

    elppaelo,
    You may try the list.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

    My mac says that it has 40 gb of movies on it but when i finder search for file size, and for file type it gives me no videos or movies. I have called apple 3 times and each time they do the same thing and then do something that takes awhile to finish so we hang up and then it never works.

  • 4GB File Size Limit in Finder for Windows/Samba Shares?

    I am unable to copy a 4.75GB video file from my Mac Pro to a network drive with XFS file system using the Finder. Files under 4GB can be dragged and dropped without problems. The drag and drop method produces an "unexepcted error" (code 0) message.
    I went into Terminal and used the cp command to successfully copy the 4.75GB file to the NAS drive, so obviously there's a 4GB file size limit that Finder is opposing?
    I was also able to use Quicktime and save a copy of the file to the network drive, so applications have no problem, either.
    XFS file system supports terabyte size files, so this shouldn't be a problem on the receiving end, and it's not, as the terminal copy worked.
    Why would they do that? Is there a setting I can use to override this? Google searching found some flags to use with the mount command in Linux terminal to work around this, but I'd rather just be able to use the GUI in OS X (10.5.1) - I mean, that's why we like Macs, right?

    I have frequently worked with 8 to 10 gigabyte capture files in both OS9 and OS X so any limit does not seem to be in QT or in the Player. 2 GIg limits would perhaps be something left over from pre-OS 9 versions of your software, as there was a general 2 gig limit in those earlier versions of the operating system. I have also seen people refer to 2 gig limits in QT for Windows but never in OS 9 or later MacOS.

  • Samba share shows up only after I restart samba

    I've been setting up a laptop with Arch to use at work and home. The problem is I can not see my samba share until I restart the samba service. The server is available though. I can connect with \\IPADDRESS\SHARE. It's just not listed under Network Places or smbtree.
    I have samba under DAEMONS  in rc.conf and I've tried starting it in rc.local too. But even if I leave it out of those and start samba manually, I have to restart samba before the share will show up on any client.
    The clients are Arch, Windows, and Ubuntu and the share is not available any of them. And the problem happens when I'm at work or at home. I've been googling, but I can't find much about a share being available but not being listed.

  • Elements 8 & 64-bit windows 7--editor shows a bandaid for healing brush; how do I get the circle?

    Previous versions of elements would show brush sizes with a circle. Using brackets, you could see the size
    increase/decrease. Elements 8 only shows a bandaid for the healing brush, no indication on photo of the brush size. Also, if I set text size to large, some tools show as 3, i.e., 3 hands, 3 bandaids, etc. Anyone else have this problem or know of a solution? I'm using a laptop with Windows 7, 64-bit. Microsoft says the program is compatible.

  • What can I do for "File size too large"?

    Spent 9 hrs creating a slideshow that I saved.  Closed PSE 11 and reopened and can no longer find the slideshow.  When I select Find, Media type, Project, nothing appears, but there is a gray box in my grid that says "File size too large".  Is this my slideshow and if so how can I recover it?  I am sick as this was a large time investment for my daughter's wedding which is very soon!  Please help if you can.

    I don't know anything about slide shows but if a picture is too large this is just a warning message, if I click a pic with this message it does show up. Have you tried clicking the thumbnail?

  • Tips for file size of ipod or itune videos??

    I have a 1/2 hour video that i'm trying to upload on various video sites, but they limit to 100MB-- my file in mp4 format is 359MB.. does anyone have any tips on how to reduce or compress the file to a smaller size? Some of the itunes vidoes i've downloaded before that were 1/2 hour in length, were only about 30MB in size...what the significant difference in file size?

    what the significant difference in file size?
    The single, most important factor is you combined (audio + video) average data rate. In your example above, the 359 MB file has a combined average data rate of roughly 1600 Kbps or about that of a standard iPod 640 width iPod file "preset" output. On the other hand, a 30 MB 30-minute file has a combined average data rate of about 133 Kbps or about that used for a 16 KB/s telephone modem and probably looks terrible and/or is so small that you can barely see any detail.
    Basically, you have three options:
    1) Reduce the combined data rate and suffer with the poor quality,
    2) Divide you file into three 10-minute segments and encode using something like the "iPhone" preset which should produce a reasonably looking 480-width files at approximately 88 MBs/10-minute segment, or
    3) Post your files to a site having increased file size limitations.

  • Sync center issue in Windows 7: sync conflict zeroing out remote file

    Hi,
    I'm using Windows 7 RTM Prof Eng x64 on my laptop, and I'm making available offline a folder on a remote share with Offline files. The remote share is hosted on a Windows Server 2003 R2 Ent Eng x86 server. The server is a domain controller, but the laptop is not joined to the domain. The remote folder is like 320 MB, mainly images, doc, pdf and xls files.
    Synching is usually working, but sometimes I observe the following: I modify a file on my machine, and later Sync center reports a sync conflict, although nobody else modified the remote file. When I check the remote file, it is full with NULLS, e.g. if it is a doc file, it opens as a lot of empty pages.
    I used the same setup with Windows Vista without problems, it just started to occur when I switched to Win 7.
    I could not reproduce the issue, but the problem could be related to the network setting:
    - it is something like: laptop ---|public network|--- server ---|private network|
    - I usually access the server from the laptop on a public network with just its netbios name, i.e. \\server. But from this network it is also accessible from \\server.domain.com and \\server-public-ip The small sync icon appears near the folder name only when I view it as \\server, and not in the other two cases.
    - when I connect to with WLAN, then the laptop is connected to the private network. Here the server is accessible via \\server-private-ip or \\server.domain2.local. When I open \\server only the offline folder is visible (the server is also a firewall, which blocks SMB going out to the public network).
    - the clocks of the two machines are not synchronized, but the difference is below 10 seconds
    I could understand a sync conflict or not detecting that the local and remote file are the same, but the zeroing out the remote file part is quite mysterious. Have anyone seen something like that?
    Thanks for the help,
    Zoltan

    Hi,
    Did you find a solution to this issue? We are experiencing the same.
    We have had users reporting that they have created a word doc whilst on the network. Saved it, then logged off and taken their laptops home. Worked on the file for a few hours, with several saves, closes and reedits. Then finally saved the file, logged off.
    When returning to work and logging in whilst connected to the network the file then becomes 0KB. The file appears to be unrecoverable as backups are only of the server version. There is no previous versions recorded and the last edited is the data of the
    original blank file. It would appear that the server version (Older) is overwriting the Local cached version (Newer).
    This is obviously causing some serious issues for staff who have lost hours of work done at home. Has anyone else experienced this.
    Servers run Windows 2008 R2, Clients Windows 7 Professional. Offline Files setup by Group Policy.

  • Finder Window Flashes When Showing Preview Of Multimedia Files.

    When Show Icon Preview is selected the finder window flashes(i.e, its gets highlighted and deactivated in a flashing manner) especially when previewing files of movies and pictures(PDF previewing is fine).The problem is there even in cover flow mode while loading the preview,and once the preview(thumnails) of files are done the finder behaves normal.When i checked the problem in another account it's working fine with out any problem in show icon preview mode,clover flow mode.I think the problem is a corrupted preference file.I tried deleting com.apple.finder.plist but its of no use...

    You are using Perian?
    --> Delete ~/Library/Preferences/org.perian.Perian.plist and re-login! May update the Perian tool and the flashing is gone.

  • RSA7 shows zero records for delta upload of 2LIS_03_BF Datasource

    Dear Professionals,
    I am having constant issues with inventory management DataSource (2LIS_03_BF). I scheduled delta upload in r3 production using LBWE, keeping in mind that in LBWE there is no options for posting dates, ETC... In RSA3, there are records, but when i check RSA7, it is showing 0 records. What could be the problem. Do i need to do anything/activation anywhere in LBWE or RSA7 to see the records. Please advise.

    Hi,
    Normally there should be a collective run which transfers data from the application-specific queues to the BW delta queue (RSA7), just like this workflow:
    MCEX03 queue==> RMBWV03 (Collective run job) ==> RSA7-Delta queue => BW
    It is necessary to schedule the job control regularly - see point 3 of SAP Note 505700.
    Check also these SAP Notes:
    869628     Constant WAITUPDA in SMQ1 and performance optimization
    728687     Delta queued: No data in RSA7
    527481     tRFC or qRFC calls are not processed

  • DivX to H.264 -- Any way to control for file size?

    Hi there,
    I'm converting DivX files that my digital camera uses to H.264 files. I'm using MPEG Streamclip to do this.
    It's working fine, but results in much larger files. For example, a 23.4MB DivX AVI file converts to a 89.6MB H.264 MP4 file. A 91.4MB DivX AVI file converts to a 414.2MB H.264 MP4 file.
    Is there any way to convert these using H.264 without sacrificing quality and without resulting in such large files? MP4 files work with Quicktime, iMovie and (under Leopard) the Finder much better than DivX files do. Any advice?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

    When you are playing a DixX file have a look at the bitrates - IIRC that is a mix of video (most of it) and audio codecs. Say it says 1000 kb/sec. If you open the file in (freebie) MPEG Streamclip and export to MPEG-4 selecting the iPod setting 320X240 you will get a 700 kb/sec video and 128 kb/sec audio so around 830 kb/sec. The file will be smaller.
    If you pick the Apple TV export preset it is at about 1500 kb/sec so the result will be 50% bigger.
    Depending on the source codec using a lot higher H264 bitrates may not make it look better anyway (you cannot create data) , so try the basic iPod setting - benefit - reasonably small - a 45 minute TV show for me is about 270MB yet looks good on a TV set via iPod, and you will have iPod compatibility as well.
    Use MPEG Streamclip 1.9b3 version.

  • Imported iPhoto pictures show as slightly smaller file size than they did i

    I imported my iPhoto library into Aperture (just about all JPEGs). It seems like Aperture reads each file as slightly smaller than iPhoto does -- for instance, 6.7 MB in iPhoto but 6.42 in Aperture. Is this just a function of how each program reads the file, or does the quality of the file become reduced by virtue of being copied into Aperture?

    Sharon,
    My guess is that it is merely a difference in how the programs show you the size. 1 Kbyte is 1024 bytes, and 1 Mbyte is 1024 KBytes. Some people (even real computer scientists) want to claim that those numbers should be 1000 instead of 1024. Some people claim that a capital letter or a lower case letter changes the meaning of the abbreviation, too.
    If your file is 6.42 MBytes (for real), this is 6731857 bytes. If you do the "fake" math, 6731857/1000/1000 is 6.7.
