Windows screen resolution question

I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this issue...
I used a MacBook Pro recently to test the Windows compatibility of a CD-ROM product I'm developing. In most respects it was fine as a substitute for a test PC, but the screen didn't change resolution when it should have done - for very boring reasons the product is supposed to switch whatever it's running on to 800x600, and it the method we're using (an Xtra for Director) has worked fine on all Mac and Windows systems except this.
So I'm thinking that the graphics side of Windows running on an Intel Mac is at a system level very different to a 'real' PC, which is a shame as I was thinking of getting a new MacBook partly to give myself an easier Windows testbed option than constantly borrowing or hijacking other people's machines.
Does this sound like an exceptional event, or will I find that anything related to graphics/switching resolutions will probably not work the same way on a lovely shiny Intel G5 MacBook as a boring old Windows laptop?

  • Bootcamp Windows Screen Resolution/Blurry?

Hello. Running Bootcamp on new Macbook Pro, installed and also running Win XP Pro. When using Windows the resolution on the screen seems just a little blurry/fuzzy. Definately not as sharp as the screen when running the Mac OS. (Also had the same issue with older Macbook Pro with bootcamp also). I've adjusted all display properties and nothing really improves it. I know its it's Windows, but is it possible to make the resolution sharper?
    Thanks.

    Lion is 10.7.1
Boot Camp incl with Lion is 4.0
If you have older Mac OS X discs, well, the new 2011s are totally different changed hardware motherboard chipset and you won't find drivers even if you try using BC 3.0.
So goodbye to 10 yr plus OS that is EOL no longer getting patches and updates and 20X vulnerable as a Windows 7 64-bit (or even play with free Windows 8 Deve Preview, but expect a few things to need tweeks).

  • Image size related to screen resolution - Questions

Trying hard to get my head around picture dimensions vs quality vs screen/printer resolution, can anyone confirm if what I think I understand is correct.
My Canon RAW images are 3888 x 2592 pixels. If I export from LR a full sized JPEG (at 100% quality) I get an image that is 3888 x 2592 pixels in size. So the questions:
    1) If I open the JPEG in something simple like Windows Picture Viewer and hit the 'Actual Size' button then put simply is each pixel in the picture lighting up a pixel on the screen ?
    2) If I zoom out then presumably there are more picture pixels than screen pixels so some data is thrown away and there is some downsizing of the image ?
    3) If I zoom in then there is not enough data and there is some intrpolation to upsize the image ?
What I'm actually trying to get to grips with is, if i want to post pics online or e-mail them, when to drop the quality a bit to save filespace and when to change image size.
    Cheers

Downsample a LOT for email and quite a lot for web viewing. Not only might they not look as good as they should, people will not be happy waiting for a 3000+ pixel image to download to them.
    A "full width"
Of course, if someone wants to print the photo, then you need to maintain the resolution and they should know it will take some time to download.
If you want to see what size others use for the web and can't estimate by looking at it on your monitor in a browser, you can find out the dimensions of a picture you are viewing. In Firefox and windows, right click on the photo and select properties.
flickr, for example, resizes to various sizes. Even though you can upload full size images to flickr, you might not want to do so to protect your full-size image from being used.

  • Thinkpad T61 Screen Resolution Question

Is it unusual for a t61 to have a screen with a max resolution of 1680x1050? Cause i've got one.

some T61 have WSXGA+ but it is not that common, there are some WXGA and WXGA+ which are more common.

  • Screen resolution question: wysiwyg?

    Hi all,
my screen is set to 1680x1050, i.e. I get 80ppi, which means that all A4 pages are shown too big.
Can I correct that in any way? I need to see layout pages exactly in the size that they will look like in print, wysiwyg. It's cumbersome and annoying to muddle around with the page display in each and every app to downsize it by visual judgement to what might be the correct output size.
    Thanks a lot!
    Peter

Actually "wysiwyg" these days refers more to relative dimensions, not exact dimensions. After all, how big something looks on the screen depends partly on far away you are from the screen, and the trend is to put more pixels on the screen per inch. Currently, there is no way to adjust the exact resolution precisely enough so that what is printed out is exactly the same size as the displayed image, unless one of the standard non-native resolutions just happens to produce this effect with the program you are using to print.
But what you want may be in store at some point, once the display pixels take the next quantum leap in smallness, where the pixels become so small that the native resolution is useless and irrelevant. It's called +Resolution-Independent User Interface+, and it is publicly known that Apple already has the foundation for it in Mac OS X. How and when they will use it, we're not supposed to discuss or speculate about in the forum.

  • DB does not look the same in different screen resolutions

    Hi All -
I have built my dashboards using the Windows screen resolution 1024 x 768, and exported the dashboard into powerpoint.  With this resolution the dashboard looks normal.  I then changed my Windows screen resolution to 1280 x 1024, opened the ppt slideshow and my X-axis labels are being cut off.  The labels are written vertically (ex: 06/09/09).
Does anyone know why this could be happening?
    Thanks!
    Tracy

I am experiencing the exact same thing. The width of the tabs in the layout editor is varied depending on the length of the text. However, at run-time, the width of the tabs is fixed, causing the tabs to be wider than the window and a set of VCR buttons to appear in the upper right corner of the canvas. Personally, I think this is a Forms bug. Why would they intentionally let us set the width to variable at design-time only to force a fixed width at run-time?

  • Screen Resolution Problem in Forms 6i at runtime

    Hi,
I have developed my application in Forms 6i in Windows Screen resolution 800 X 600, it run ok in this resolution but when I changed the resolution of screen the application is not display on full screen.
So tell me the solution of this problem.

    Shahzad,
Do NOT try to expand your form to fill the entire screen. In a windowing environment, most users sometimes need to see corners and peices of their other running applications. If yours expands to cover everything, it will not be appreciated.

  • Why does my maximised app window appear a different size to the screen resolution?

First: I'm a beginner with windows programming, fumbling my way through visual studio and C# (my background is C with console applications)... sorry if this is a naive question!
Short story: When I create a window of the same size as the screen resolution. My app window is ~20% larger than my device's screen. Why is this happening?
Long story: I'm attempting to develop an application with a fixed size window and absolute positioning of UI elements. The application will only ever run at a fixed resolution, on a single device, borderless/non-resizeable and full-screen. The resolution
of the display on which it will run is 1280x800 (according to the device specs and resolution reported by the windows control panel) . However, when I create a window of this size, it is too large to fit onscreen. In fact, I have to create a window 1024x640
(0.8x screen resolution) for it to perfectly fit the screen. Anyone know why this is happening?
    Thanks!

It sounds like you are running in a high-DPI mode but your app is not DPI aware and is getting virtualized. Windows will tell the app it's running at 96 DPI and then embiggen the rendered window so it ends up at the user's requested zoom level.

  • Unable to Change Screen Resolution in Remote Session - Windows Server 2012 R2

Does anybody know of a way to allow Remote Desktop users to adjust their own screen resolution in a remote session under Windows Server 2012 R2? We are struggling with this and can't seem to find a solution.
When users login to their RDP session and try to adjust their screen resolution this message is displayed in Control Panel:
"The display settings can't be changed from a remote session."
We don't want to use the "make text and other items larger or smaller" scaling feature, as this produces undesirable results with some of our applications.  We also don't want to have to support multiple types of RDP clients or RDP shortcut
    files.
We have looked at other posts but can't find an answer that applies to Windows Server 2012 R2.  The closest thing we could find is KB2726399, but it only applies to Server 2008.
Does anybody have a solution for Server 2012?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Currently you cannot change the resolution from within the session.  This is normal and expected behavior.
Unfortunately this means you need to set the desired resolution before connecting by using custom .rdp files, manually within the Remote Desktop Client, custom web launch page, custom windows launch program, etc.

  • Screen Resolution trouble on Toshiba Satellite l775-s7307after reinstallation of Windows 7

I was having troubles. Had browser malware that couldn't be contained, and I had other issues, such as, getting the blue screen of death on a regular basis.....I wiped the HD, and reinstalled Windows 7-32 bit, and downloaded and installed all the drivers for this model from the Toshiba website, but I seem to be struggling with readjusting my screen resolution to where it should be....It won't set any higher than 1024 x 768.
    Any ideas?

In the future, I'd recommend performing a system recovery rather than reinstalling a clean copy of Windows. A system recovery will include all applicable software.
You installed the latest Intel display driver?

  • Screen resolution when PXE boot from WDS vs Install Windows 8.1 from USB

    Hi all
I own a Lenovo ThinkPad T430s, X230 Tablet, and now have my hands on a T440. All three machines have UEFI Secure Boot enabled properly, i.e. Windows boot screen shows Lenovo logo instead of Windows logo.
However, if I do a PXE boot (using Windows Deployment Services from Windows Server 2012, not R2) and boot to the same boot.wim provided on a Windows 8.1 ISO image, the boot screen resolution turns crap, and the WinPE environment runs in 640x480. Also, as opposed
to the Lenovo logo showing on the boot screen, the Windows logo shows up instead, indicating it's not doing a secure boot?
When booting from a USB stick however, using the same Windows 8.1 boot.wim (copied from ISO), the screen resolution in Windows Setup is detected correctly, and the Lenovo logo shows up.
This occurs on all three machines since MDT was upgraded to MDT 2013 or when I replaced Windows 8 boot.wim with Windows 8.1 boot.wim (as the Windows ADK 8 --> ADK 8.1).
Is there a fix for this? Do others have the same problem elsewhere?
    Many thanks

    Hi,
When boot UEFI-based computer from PXE you should take more into consideration.
For some computers, you might have to perform additional steps to make sure that Windows is installed in UEFI mode, and not in legacy BIOS-compatibility mode.
Some computers might support UEFI. However, they do not support a PXE-initiated boot when in UEFI mode.

    Especially for “Pre-Deployment Considerations”
If you still cannot find a way to make it boot from UEFI mode, you should contact with manufacture to confirm if PXE-initiated boot is supported.
    Hope this helps.

  • Screen resolution in Windows XP

    Hi all,
I have a iMac 24", with a screen resolution of 1920x1200. I installed Windows XP with Bootcamp. The problem I have now is in Windows, the highest possible choice for screen resolution is 1600x1200 which doesn't look good at all.
How do I change that into 1920x1200?
I am a complete newbie when it comes to windows so help is appreciated. (I only installed it to run SolidWorks during work).
    Thanks,
    Veronica

    Hi Veronica,
just to rule ou the obvious:
Have you installed the BootCamp Windows Drivers from the OSX DVD yet ?
If not, while in Windows pop in the OSX DVD and the Driver Installation should start automatically.

  • Screen resolution in windows not as high as in 10.8

I recently got my hard drive replaced in my Mid 2010 27" iMac. I've partitioned the drive to reinstall Win 7 but now the screen resolution in Win7 is not as high as it was on the old hard drive. In 10.8, it runs at full resolution 2560x1440 but in Windows it runs at 1920x1440 max.
Anyone know how I can get Windows to show the full screen res because 1920x1440 looks like wallpaper that has been 'stretched to fit' and it's annoying to look at.
    thanks

JIm, you can make the text larger....look at the Interface Tab on the Preferences menu and you'll see several different Font size options (although there are less on OSX apparently). Make a selection, then close and restart Lightroom for the change to take effect.
