Windows Script Host startup error - Windows 8

Hello all,
I got  new Windows 8 Lenovo laptop recently, and I wanted to install all my games from my previous computer to my new one. So I did, but ended up with some errors (Which have nothing to due with Windows or Lenovo, but rather the games themselves), and
as a result, I had to re-install java (I mention java just to ensure I cover all the possibilities, I doubt it has anything to due with java). After some un-installations and scans/clean-ups, I got my computer back to normal except for one notable error: every
time I boot my laptop, I get an error message that is titled "Windows Script Host" and has the message "Can not find file "C:\ProgramData\Lenovo-1423.vbs"". When I safe boot I do not get this message, but when I go to troubleshoot
it in clean boot, I always get the error message, regardless of what services/startup items I have disabled. My virus softwares (Webroot and McAfee) detect no threats when I scan my drives.
I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple. And, knowing me, I probably posted this in the wrong category, so apologies in advanced. Can someone please offer me help?

Hi there. I had a similar problem and was able to resolve it. Every time I started
up my PC, I would get an annoying message titled
"windows script host" saying it couldn't find a file relating to a 3rd party application. You can check whether it is a 3rd party app causing this by starting
your PC in safe mode and see if it still gives you the message titled "windows script host". If it doesn't, then it is a 3rd party app causing it and the problem is relatively easy to resolve.
I was able to resolve this as follows:
1. Start in safe mode
(If the message titled "windows script host" doesn't appear, proceed and follow
the remaining steps. If it does still appear then don't proceed and I'm not sure how you should resolve the issue in that case)
2. Run registry editor
3. Search for Lenovo-1423.vbs
4. When found, delete it.
5. Restart PC in normal mode. Problem solved!
Below are detailed instructions below for performing the steps above:
First startup your PC in safemode.
A sure way to enable safe mode (for Windows 7 and Windows 8) is as follows. Run "msconfig", when msconfig is open, go to the boot tab and tick the checkbox that says "safe boot", apply changes then restart PC. It will start in safemode.
Note: to find "msconfig" just hit the windows key and type "msconfig" (without quotes). Then click on it to run it.
Now once in safe mode, run "regedit". To find regedit, press windows key, type "regedit" without quotes, then click on it to run it. The Registry Editor will open.
When it is open, press ctrl+F to open the find window. Type "Lenovo-1423.vbs" then click on "find next" or just hit "Enter" key. It will begin searching the registry. When the search is complete it should come up with a list, one of them should be highlighted
and will have the path,
C:\ProgramData\Lenovo-1423.vbs
Simply right click on it and click on delete. When you delete it, the problem should be resolved, now just run your PC normally again. I.e. not in "safe mode".
To do this, run "msconfig" again by pressing windows key, typing "msconfig" then clicking on it. Go to the boot tab, uncheck the box saying "safe boot". Apply changes then restart your PC. It will start in regular mode and no more annoying message at start
up.
If the problem persists, you can start in safe mode again and run regedit to search for Lenovo-1423.vbs again in case it appears elsewhere in your registry. I doubt it would though.
Good luck to anybody who had a similar problem

  • JRE 1.5.0_11 Startup Error with MS Windows Vista. Please help!

Hi there, I am hoping that someone can help me with this very confusing problem. A friend of mine made a program for me last month using java. It works brilliantly on computers running MS Windows 2000 and XP but as soon as I installed it on one running Vista I get this error:

Also, I apologise in advance if this is the wrong section to post this problem.
    Thanks!

Seems to be a problem with exe4j. Ask your friend to deploy a platform independent version of his program as well.

  • CS6 in Windows 8 Startup Error

    Hello,
I just bought a new laptop, a Sony Intel i7 with Windows 8. I just bought the creative cloud and opened up Premiere pro. I got this startup error, "Adobe Premiere pro could not find any capable video play modules. Please update your video display drivers and start again.
I've seen forums discussing this issue, but nothing has worked. I tried it in admin and nothing. I went to my graphics properties and changed the power settings to maximim performance, nothing.
Does it have to do with it being on windows 8?
    Thanks
    Julie

So, you did everything it says here? http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/error---preludevideo-play-modules.html
What is the exact brand/model graphics adapter/chip and the exact device driver version?
If nVidia, find the driver driver version
Right click in any open area of the Windows desktop
Select NVIDIA Control Panel from the popup window
Select SYSTEM INFORMATION at the lower left corner
Driver version should be the 1st line in Details
    >graphics properties and changed the power settings to maximim performance
Does that mean you have dual video adapters?

  • Error During Method Call in Scripting Host

    Hey all ,
I am running a webdynpro application , which runs an Ecatt which in turn runs an Underlying SAP GUI recording , and as soon we hit the  SAP GUI command we are getting an Error saying ERROR DURING METHOD CALL IN SCRIPTING HOST.
As of now we know that this might be a security issue as this was working perfectly fine when we were running on a R3 system.
If any of you have come across such a situation and was able to find a work around it would be of great help if you respond back as I need this info ASAP.
    Thanks And Kind Regards,
    Nischal

    Hi Lawrence,
I have analyzed the condition, and come with the conclusion that, when eCATT calls QTP in integrated mode, and downloads the QTP scripts from server to your local machine,  it requires more memory. So try to free memory on C drive and don't keep running more application on the local machine.
    Thanks,

  • Plumtree Portal Startup Error

    Hi All,
I am trying to install the WCI on Win Server 2003.
I followed the step-by-step installation guide provided by Oracle on http://download-llnw.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13158_01/alui/wci/docs103/map_wci_win_installguide_10-3/. However, we came across this problem where the portal can't be started after completing the installation and configuration.
The configuration manager is able to run, but not the portal.
The startup error log is as follows:

If this fails, check the web application server user's access rights

FYI, we had been uninstalling and re-installing several times, but the same problems occured. So, does any of you faced this kind of error before?
Your views and opinions are very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Looks like this a Java portal... this error is usually caused by an invalid path or similar problem with environment variables. Since ptverify works, this is even more likely. I would make sure you've followed the preinstall steps. The problem is probably somehow related to you needing to:
1.) Set the PT_HOME environment variable.
2.) Add it to your PATH.
3.) Make sure the application server (Weblogic?) is set up to properly use the above variables (is the user it is running as set up to have above, etc). I would add some echo statements to your application server bat files if you are unsure if these variables are set or what they are.
4.) Some other environment variable is necessary (i.e. does LD_LIBRARY_PATH contain the /lib/java directory).
Most of this should be done by the install, but when you are setting up the application server you may need to check this (or if you have reinstalled, run as a different user, etc, this may be different).
I realize that's kind of vague but this type of error can be harder to diagnose, plus its been a while since I've done a Windows install. Hope this helps...

  • I'm all of a sudden getting a ( Java Script Application "download error" message) when trying to use Ant Video Downloader. What could cause this?

When an FLV is playing and I want to download it. I click on the Ant download button. A little window appears reading ( Java Script Application "download error" message)

This works for me on YouTube.
Cancel the download and then immediately right click and choose retry.

  • CS3 suddenly has a startup error, cant find MFC71.DLL

Start CS3 normally, and suddenly get this error:
Adobe Photoshop CS3: Photoshop.exe - Unable To Locate Component (title bar
    of error dialog)
This application has failed to start because MFC71.DLL was not found.
Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
    OK
I click on OK and CS3 starts, but with differences. Seems some of the
windows on the right are missing now. Bridge still runs fine, I can edit
RAW files from Bridge to ACR4.5, then open from that into Photoshop, then
convert and save the files. I don't seem to have a Layers palette now or a
    Tool Options palette.
I had just gone through and uninstalled a number of old applications. None
were Adobe programs though. Immediately after doing that, this error
    started.
I found MFC71.DLL, but putting it in the Photoshop installation folder
didn't help. Can someone tell me how to fix this? Hopefully without
re-installing CS3. I have also just discovered that my DVD rewriter will
not recognize the CS3 DVD, so doing a reinstall from the disk will require a
    new DVD drive first.
The Adobe updater works and I updated PS to 10.01, and still get that
startup error and have missing palettes.
    Thanks!
    Michael

It belongs in the Windows\system32 folder.
    I also have copies in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Updater and C:\Program Files\Adobe\CS3\Acrobat 8.0\Designer 8.0
All of the copies I found are version 7.10.3077.0

  • HOST Failed errors with multi-core processing in Compressor

I used Digital Rebellion's Pref Mgr to trash all prefs; then Compressor Repair to fix them.  Rebooted.  Stopped Qmaster.  Reset services.  Established 5 instances ( I have 8 core Xeon 2.8ghz Mac Pro ).  Restarted Qmaster sharing.  Opened FCP file, sent to Compressor.  Selected DVD settings.  Chose cluster I set up in Qmaster.  Submitted. Instant "HOST Failed" error messages on the five instances that appeared in Batch Monitor.
    Help.  Tired.  Frustrated.  ******.

If you really are running 10.6.2, I'd start by running all software updates.
See what happens if you export a 5 minute section of your movie, export that as a master file and bring that movie into a new Compressor job,
Post a screen shot of the Computer Sharing settings window to see whether anyone can spot something amiss.

  • CF Startup Errors: swsoc.exe and swagent.exe

I've installed CF Standard on a new box and am receiving
Windows startup errors for swagent.exe and swsoc.exe. Two of the CF
services (ODBC Server and ODBC Agent) also will not run - I believe
    the two events are related.
Does anybody have any suggestions or experience with
    this?

Thanks. I reinstalled - no change. I applied the latest MX
updates - no change. I reset my personal firewall (McAfee) to the
default values and this time allowed all the verity programs (3 or
    4) access to the Internet - low and behold, fixed.
My guess is that there is some sort of "call home to mama"
code that fails miserably if it can't.

  • Running shell script at startup (before login)

Objective: on the Mac side of a dual-boot Intel, I want to automate running a shell script at startup that will unmount the "Untitled" Windows partition. As a single line command, the following runs correctly when invoked manually from Terminal:
    /usr/sbin/diskutil unmount force disk0s3
How can I include this script in the startup sequence?

V.K. asks: "why do you need to do this before login?" And macwiz1220 suggests including in Login Items an app created by AppleScript that launches Terminal and runs the diskutil command.
When I create and run such an app at login, I encounter problems with Terminal, which is why I thought to run an .sh script at startup. But if we can debug the problems with Terminal, then I won't have to venture into the more complex solutions offered by gbullman and Barney-15E. Terminal problems:
    (1) When Terminal prefs for Settings>Shell are set this way:
    (a) When the shell exits: Close the window.
    (b) Prompt before closing: Never
then the result is: Terminal is launched and exits quickly, but the "Untitled" volume is not unmounted.
    (2) When Terminal prefs for Settings>Shell are set this way:
    (a) When the shell exits: Close the window if the shell exited cleanly
    (b) Prompt before closing: Never
then again the result is: Terminal is launched and exits quickly, but the "Untitled" volume is not unmounted.
    (3) When Terminal prefs for Settings>Shell are set this way:
    (a) When the shell exits: Don't close the window
    (b) Prompt before closing: Always
then after invoking the script, Terminal properly unmounts "Untitled" and presents a dialog: "You have 2 windows with running processes. Do you want to review these windows before quitting?" Here are the two Terminal windows:
an echo of the cmd "/usr/sbin/diskutil unmount force disk0s3" followed by a report on return: "Volume on disk0s3 force unmounted." I don't want the user to have to see this and close the window.
(ii) a fresh Terminal session, no commands entered. I also don't want the user to have to deal with this.
How can I get Terminal to properly unmount the object, and shut down without demanding user interaction?
    P.S. what is an O.P.?
