Windows Server 2003 64bit and Java 1.5.0, does it support 64bit processing?

I have search the Sun website, Google etc but I am unable to find a definitive statement as to whether Java 1.5.0 has support for 64 bit processing when run on on Windows Server 2003 64bit?
There appears to be separate 64 bit versions available for down load on the Solaris platform but not on Windows Server 2003 64bit. Is there for a reason for this?
If some one could clarify the situation it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks AMN for quick reply.
I have tried IE6 and IE7. Oracle application server10.1.2. I have developed a warehouse management s/w. I tried to open a form. I give one more info that I have two virtaul machine windows 2003 server and windows XP on Microsoft Virtual PC. Oracle application server setup is same on Virtual pC. It is working on virtual PC. I do not understand where is the problem on physical server.
Confuguration is like this.
1. Windows 2003 server with service pack 2 ---> Oracle Application server 10.1.2 + Java 1.5.0.7
2. Windows XP with service pack3 ---> Oracle 10g Database
3. Windows XP with service pack3 ---> java 1.5.0.7 as a client
4. Windows Vista ultimate ---> java 1.5.0.7 and java 1.5..0.13 It is working fine. I mean when i try to run a form from Vista , it is working.

  • We're running Windows server 2003 32bit and want to migrate to Windows server 2012R2 64bit, can someone provide a step by step procedure on how to migrate instances on ADAM to AD LDS?

I have no experience in dealing with servers, but my senior has asked me to investigate on how to migrate instances on ADAM (windows server 2003 32bit) to AD LDS (Windows server 2012R2 64 bit) as in place upgrade is not an option as we're running a 32bit
Server and want to migrate to a 64bit Server. can someone please give me a Walkthrough on how to do this.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
it'd be of great help if you could give me a step by step process of replication.
There is no step-by-step article/guide of replication process, replication between AD LDS instances of the same configuration set is an automatic process.
All we need to make sure is to create a replica of the existing instance, and there is no network/security obstacle preventing the replication.
Please note that we need to install AD LDS from Server manager on Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2.

  • Windows Server 2003 EE and APEX 3.1.2

    Hi
I have simple problem. I installed win32 11gR1 Oracle Enterprise Edition database, and apex 3.1.2. The instalation was OK. But now that I try to login to apex using
http://127.0.0.1/apex/apexadmin, I get a popup window that suggest me to enter username and password to it. The message comes from XDB. Now no matter what I try to enter inisde, I just can't login to apex admin. I never get this window before. On XP I instaled and used apex on Oracle 11g EE without problem. Is this something specific to win server 2003, and what should I do. I tried to enter apex ADMIN username and password but it just can't except it. Help

    Hello Marcus,
    >> Is this something specific to win server 2003
I don’t think so. It seems to me that you didn’t complete all the post installation tasks regarding the EPG configuration. For example, did you unlock the ANONYMOUS account (a typical reason for the error message you are getting)?
ALTER USER ANONYMOUS ACCOUNT UNLOCK;Please check the installation guide to make sure you completed all the post installation tasks.

  • Windows Server 2003 Sharing and Security Problem

    Hello all,
I am having a problem with setting permissions and sharing folder "A" within our domain.  As a member of Domain Admins, I am unable to open the contents of any folder within folder A's  hierarchy.  Domain Admins has full control
at the top level of the folder structure, so I am not sure why I cannot open any of the subfolders.  I have even added my user id directly to the top folder with full permissions and I am still not able to open any of the sub folders.  The message
I get is "Access is denied".  I have even tried giving Everyone full control and I can still not open any lower level folders.  Not sure how this happened or how to fix it.  I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
    Thanks very much,
    Linda
    Thanks, Linda

Just because it is set at the top level doesnt guarantee that it is fully inherited to all the files and folders below it. You have two things to consider
    1) It's possible specific folders or files below have been set to not inherit permissions. So no change at a higher level will change them. You can see if this is the case.
    2) When you add yourself to the top folder, did you got into advanced mode and ensure that it was set to This Folder, Files and Sub Folders?

Thank you to everyone in this thread!
After digging through VSS and Hyper-V dead-ends, the solution above worked for me in a W2012 R2 environment.
I only had this problem trying to back up W2012 R2 Hyper-V VMs stored on a CSV, hosted on a W2012 R2 Host Cluster, backing up from a Host node.  I could back up from within the guests fine.  Both Windows Server Backup and DPM 2012 R2
gave VSS errors on the cluster hosts.
In fact Windows Server Backup complains with 80780189 it won't back up an application with files on a CSV, which is a common cluster configuration.  This is an example of another caveat in a minefield of MS caveats buried in fine print which often negates
configurations touted by MS Marketing, things which sound great on a sell sheet, but in practice are impractical or just not production-ready because of these restrictions.
Disabled Backup in Integration Services, performed an offline back up from DPM 2012 R2 (which did briefly affect serving the workloads on the VM), which succeeded, and then re-enabled Backup in Integration Services.  DPM then continued to
sync successfully after that for a day.  However, this problem returned after a period of heavy DPM backup activity.  So I redistributed backups through various Protection Groups to spread the DPM load over a longer period and this seems to
    have solved this problem.
In general I had lots of problems installing, configuring, and now operating DPM, so the experience has not been smooth, but most of the problems have now been solved.  I find you have to "baby" this product and not push it too hard,
    otherwise things start breaking.
    Thanks again everyone!

  • Increasing disk size in windows server 2003

    Hello,
Am running a file server on windows server 2003. And i have 3 partitions as C, D and E. Where as D & E having 1 TB each. My company user documents are mapped to D as well as E. Now my D drive is running out of space and i have around 800 Gigs
free space in E drive. I would like to move some of the free space from E drive to D. Am bit afraid to use diskpart command to extend the volume also not sure whether diskpart will help me.
    Can someone please guide me..
    Thanks in Advance
    NAZeeR

    Hi,
"Extend Volume" only allows you to extend a drive into contiguous unallocated space (on the right). In this case you can only merge unallocated space to D drive. If you want to merge noncontiguous unallocated space to C drive, there are two solutions. Please
    refer to the article below:

  • Windows Server 2008 x64 and Crystal Reports Server Embedded

We're attempting to certify our software with Windows Server 2008 x64 and want to know the best way to configure both the server and client of Crystal Reports Server Embedded.  Currently, our software is certified against Windows Server 2003 x86, and we install Crystal Reports Server Embedded XI Release 2 (no SP) on the application server, and we deploy the Crystal Reports .NET merge modules for XI Release 2 (no SP) on any client machines.
I believe I am correct in stating that no version of Crystal Reports Server Embedded officially supports Windows Server 2008 x64 (based on some other forum postings) until SP1 comes out (which I don't think has happened at this point).  If that is true, we can live with installing the RAS on a separate Windows Server 2003 x64, if that's even possible.  With that said, can we even get our Windows Server 2008 x64 running with the latest Crystal Reports 2008 .NET merge modules?  We've tried many different configurations between CR XI R2 SPs and CR 2008 for both client and server and have very little luck (either it won't install correctly because of x64 or missing .cabs, etc.) on both the client and server side of things.
Can someone suggest the optimal configuration when Windows Server 2008 x64 is in the mix, noting that we can use a secondary Windows Server 2003 (x64 preferred but can fallback to x86)?  Or do we have to wait for Crystal Reports Server Embedded 2008 SP1 to be released, and if so, does anyone know of the date?
    Thanks,
    Ross Beehler

  • Several folder shares on Windows Server 2003 R2

I have serious problems at one of our clients. They just switched from PC's to iMac's and MacBook Pro's. The backup platform is a server running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 and there are several shares on this server.
Some of these shares should only be accessible by normal employees and others only to management etc.
When connecting to the shares from OSX all folders are visible even when creating a different layout with user access lists for each folder.
Is there any way of fixing this issue?
    Example
    Share Users - Access Everybody
Share Admin - Access Network Administrator
    Share Administration - Access Management
All this worked perfectly on the Windows setup!

I have the same problem on our PC networ with PC servers. Several departments have converted to using Macs and they are able to mount to shared drives and see everything in it. My question now - is there a way to be able to access a windows shared folder for ALL USERS WITHOUT the share getting mounted on the Mac desktop?
If I created an alias of a particular Mac app or file on the Mac desktop that is stored on a Windows shared folder for all users. How can that alias work for ALL USERS without having to prompt for a uname and password and/or mounting the whole volume to the desktop?
I'm not happy with Macs running on our network but I don't have a choice on this.

  • Labview 8.2.1 with Windows Server 2003 ?

    Hi Everyone,
(I use LabVIEW RT DSC 8.2.1 and I will be upgrading to LabVIEW 9 this summer)
    I have a problem :
Description of the control architecture  :
I am working with around 25 NI controllers (5 PXI, 3 Crio and the rest are cFP&FP)
I have one server that is collecting (read & write by SV binding) most of the signals from those controllers into SV libraries.
The server is also responsible to some processes like (non linear scalings, watchdogs, restarting system....) - processes that concern all clients.
The Clients control the operational of the facility with applications that read & write from (or to) the Server SV libraries.
    Problem :
The Sever is working very slow, and it turns out that originally the server is from a "PIZZA IBM" type and was coerced to work with XP (Service Pack 2, 32 bit) Windows OS.
The computers department told me that this Server "PIZZA IBM" is not suited to work with XP and they did some patching in order to make it work with XP.
I think that is the cause that the Server is working not properly, then I want to install Windows Server 2003, but NI told me that they do not support it.
(maybe this is the reason that originally we didn't install Windows Server 2003, since we use LabVIEW all over)
What should I do If I want a proper Server with Labview?
Is there anyone else in here that is using a server? so what OS is installed on it ?
How does other facilities sovle this problem?
    Sincerely Yours,
    Amitai Abramson.

    Jeff,
Thanks for the extremely detailed post.  I have actually been experimenting with this combination of software for the past couple weeks (i.e. OpenSUSE 10.2, DAQmx, LabVIEW 8.2.1).  Your steps match mine very closely.  I did have a one thing to add, and one question about your steps.  First, I just want to mention that NI-KAL 1.6 has been released and it fixes several issues when installing NI-KAL with newer kernels.  This is available at:
    http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/850/lang/en
    I would highly recommend using NI-KAL 1.6.
Second,  I wanted to ask about step #2 where you modify the modpost.c file.  When I ran updateNIDrivers I was not required to make this change.  However I did have to increase the allowable symbol length.  I changed the line:
    #define SZ 500
    to
    #define SZ 1024
    in modpost.c.
I then proceeded to follow the steps you mentioned and was able to run updateNIDrivers without error.  Could you test to see if changing the allowable symbol length fixed the problem without having to ignore the "parse error in symbol dump file."  I don't exactly know what the read_dump function does but it always makes me nervous to ignore errors.  Since NI-KAL uses modpost to install a kernel module, this failure may be important, although I don't know for sure.
Once again thanks for your awesome post.

  • Upgrading windows server 2003 domain controller to windows server 2008

    Hello friedns :
We have a company with about 2000 users , and two windows server 2003 domain controllers , one of them acts as a primary domain controller , and the other acts as secondary domain controller , all the FSMO s are on the primary DC ,we have decided to upgrade all of our servers from windows server 2003 to windows server 2008 , the first step is to upgrade the domain controllers to windows server 2008 , our domain controllers are so sensitive and has to be active 24 hours a day , i have stress upgrading it to windows server 2008 , what is the best solution to upgrade it with no risk ?
( i have an opinion but i am not sure and i dont have any guide about it , i want to install a windows server 2008 and promote it as an additional domain controller to the windows server 2003 DC and the transfer all the FSMOs to it , and then promote the first domain controller !!! is that possible ? if yes , is there any guide about it? )
If there is a guide available for it please let me know . (Specially if there is a tip & trick)
    thank you guys.

    Hi,
This TechNet online article might be helpful for you.
How to Upgrade Domain Controllers to Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee522994(WS.10).aspx
For your convenience, I have list some general steps for your reference.
Since the following operation have potential damage to Active Directory database, it is highly suggested that you'd better perform a full backup of Active Directory (System State) firstly. Also it is better to test the following procedure in a similar lab environment first.
    General Steps:
    =============
    1. Verify the new server's TCP/IP configuration has been pointed to the current DNS server.
    2. Make the new server become a member server of the current Windows Server 2003 domain first.
    3. Upgrade the Windows Server 2003 forest schema to Windows Server 2008 schema with the "adprep /forestprep" command on old server.
Please run the "adprep.exe /forestprep" command from the Windows Server 2008 installation disk on the schema master. To do this, insert the Windows Server 2008 installation disk, and then type the following command:
    Drive:\sources\ADPREP\adprep.exe /forestprep
    4. Upgrade the Windows 2003 domain schema with the "adprep /domainprep" command on old server.
Please run the "adprep.exe /domainprep" command from the Windows Server 2008 installation disk on the infrastructure master. To do this, insert the Windows Server 2008 installation disk, and then type the following command:
    Drive:\sources\ADPREP \adprep.exe /domainprep
    5. Insert Windows Server 2008 Installation Disc in the new server.
    6. Run "dcpromo" on new server to promote it as an additional domain controller in existing Windows 2003 domain, afterwards you may verify the installation of Active Directory.
    Please refer to:
How to Verify an Active Directory Installation in Windows Server 2003
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816106
    7. Verify the new server's TCP/IP configuration has been pointed to current DNS server.
    8. Enable Global Catalog on new server and manually Check Replication Topology and afterwards manually trigger replication (Replicate Now) to synchronize Active Directory database between 2 replicas.
Please note: It will some time to replicate GC between DC, please wait some time with patience.
    9. Disable Global Catalog on the old DC.
    10. Transfer all the FSMO roles from the old DC to the new DC.
    Please refer to:
How to view and transfer FSMO roles in Windows Server 2003
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324801
    11. Verify that the old DNS Server Zone type is Active Directory-Integrated. If not, please refer to:
How To: Convert DNS Primary Server to Active Directory Integrated
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816101
Note: Active Directory Integrated-Zone is available only if DNS server is a domain controller.
    12. Install DNS component on new server and configure it as a new DNS Server (Active Directory Integrated-Zone is preferred). All the DNS configuration should be replicated to the new DNS server with Active Directory Replication.
    13. Make all the clients change TCP/IP configuration to point to new server as DNS.
    14. You may configure TCP/IP on all the clients, or adjust DHCP scope settings to make them use the new DNS server.
Please note: It is a good practice to make the old DC offline for several days and check whether everything works normally with the new server online. If so, you may let the old DC online and run DCPROMO to demote it.
    Hope it helps.

  • Networking macbook with windows server 2003 LAN

Can anyone refer me to a good, very basic source for how-to set up a macbook on a windows network server running Windows Server 2003? I would be running a lot of apps in Windows environment using Parallels.

    According to:
"The Windows Server 2003 domain and forest functional levels are deprecated. When you create a new domain or forest,
you should consider using a functional level from Windows Server 2008 or newer. When you deploy Windows Server 2012 R2 into an existing Windows Server 2003 environment, you will be notified to move to a newer functional level."
(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn303411.aspx) you can introduce Windows 2012 r2 domain kontroler
in Windows 2003 forest but you should consider upgrading to higher functional levels.

  • 64 bit Java 1.5 on  Windows Server 2003 64bit?

I have search the Sun website, Google etc but I am unable to find a definitive statement as to whether Java 1.5.0 has support for 64 bit processing when run on on Windows Server 2003 64bit?
There appears to be separate 64 bit versions available for down load on the Solaris platform but not on Windows Server 2003 64bit. Is there for a reason for this?
If some one could clarify the situation it would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards Mike Kimber

Actually I didn't and it?s the reason I asked the initial question. I found the table unclear. However the following footnote does suggest that 64 bit processing is supported natively on Windows Server 2003:
    3. Support for AMD64/EM64T 64-bit mode Windows introduced in J2SE 5.0 Update 2.
Prior to Update 2, J2SE 5.0 supports AMD Opteron (64) Windows in this configuration.
Whilst not categorically stating it, this would suggest that as of Java 5 Update 2, java supports 64 bit processing on 64 bit Intel chips?

  • Issues with creating PDF's (Acrobat 8.1.6. and 9.1.3) in Windows Server 2003 (32 bit) and Windows XP (64bit)

We have a report package that generates customised reports
We generate the PDF's by simply "printing" to the Adobe PDF printer
In Windows XP Pro (32 Bit) the report creates the PDF perfectly
In Windows Server 2003 (32 Bit) or Windows Xp Pro (64 Bit) the PDF is created 90% perfect but some of text has slipped on the page.
Whilst we are looking into the report writer (Dev Express) I would like to rule out any Acrobat issues.
    With thanks

I think it will work fine if you use the "Enterprise" authentication option.  It may have dependencies on 32 bit components.  So, that's why we must run IIS in 32 bit mode even though it's on a 64 bit OS.  That means CR supports 64 bit OS systems only if you bring down other components that CR uses to 32 bit levels.  I'm not sure if that is considered "full support".
We are trying to use the LDAP authentication option, but that tab is disabled.  Other tabs such as Active Directory and WinNT are disabled as well.  There maybe another component that we must bring down to 32 bit processing.
Is there a way to enable the LDAP authentication configuration tab?
    thanks
