Windows Server 2008 Activation Problem

I downloaded this beta today but I am having a problem activating it here is what I get:
Online Activation:
"A problem occured when Windows tried to activate. Error Code 0x80072F8F" I have tried registering for several diffrent keys but this still happens.
Phone Activation:
It tells me the key I get from the automated system is incorrect and still no activation.
I have no idea what I am doing wrong, can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks Josh

Hello Josh,
for that error code knowledge base shows this article - it is an error during update,
could you check if this would also fit for your situation ?
This issue occurs if the date and time that are on the computer vary too greatly from the valid date and time.
if this does not help:
Does the Windows event viewer show some additional info/error messages ?
Do you have some special settings in your firewall ?
Anything lately changed on your system ?
>I have tried registering for several diffrent keys but this still happens.
so I guess you already got some new keys from Windows Server 2008 Home Page ?
btw: it would also help if you could tell more about your system:
e.g. version: core, enterprise, datacenter
is this the June CTP version (Windows Server 2008 IDS-3 CTP build: 6001.16606.070619.0730 - available to MSDN or Technet subscribers) or the beta 3 (version 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1, v.126 Build 6001), ...
Erkan YILMAZ
[my question to people working for Microsoft:
I still got no response on my last 4 lines of comment here - believe me I tried a lot of channels/ways - but without success or the option to pay money to get a beta (June CTP) version.
Well, let's turn this around: if people think of it in way of opportunity costs: Microsoft is losing money every day by not providing it to people willing to test it.
My question now: Why does a Microsoft employee - thinking about the future of his/her company - not inform the appropriate people regarding this ? :-) ]

  • Download issue when Windows 7 Pro joins a Windows Server 2008 Active Directory

    Hi,
I purchased 2 new Dell OptiPlex 3010 desktop computers that came with Windows 7 Professional operating system with SP1.
There were no Microsoft updates installed yet.  After I added one of these Dell computers to the Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, I was not able to download several items.
    Below are several examples:
    1) I downloaded the Norton anti-virus installation file.  This file is not the full installation of Norton; it is more of a file where you execute it and it will download the full installation from the Internet like from their Norton web
site.  So when I executed this installation file, it does not download the full installation files.
It just hung at the screen saying “Downloading” and it will finally stop with an error (don’t remember the error message).
Note: If I have the full Norton installation file then I am able to install it on this computer with no problems.
    2) I downloaded the Adobe Reader installation file.  This file is not the full installation of Adobe Reader; it is more of a file where you execute it and it will download the full installation from the Internet like from their Adobe web
site.  So when I executed this installation file, it hung at the downloading part and then it will error out with a “Actionlist Not Found” message.
Note: If I have the full Adobe Reader installation file then I am able to install it on this computer with no problems.
    3) I installed Microsoft Office 2010 Standard version on this computer.
I configured Microsoft Outlook to retrieve emails from my email provider (pop and smtp settings).
After configuring Microsoft Outlook, I was able to send emails through Microsoft Outlook successfully (and very quickly), but he was unable to retrieve my emails. The progress bar for the Receiving in the "Outlook Send/Receive Progress" box
shows no progress. The Progress bar is not moving. There is a message at the bottom of Microsoft Outlook stating "Receiving message 1 of 6 (x.xx KB of x.xx MB)" and it is very slow. My new emails were not being retrieved at all.
I tried various pop and smtp servers that was available for my email provider, but all had the same effect.
    4) I can access certain web sites (e.g.
www.yahoo.com, www.cnn.com) while I cannot access other web sites like
www.usatoday.com, my web hosting email site.
Note: I had a Dell computer with Windows XP Professional operating system and this computer does not have any of the above issues.
The above are only a few examples that I have experienced.
If I removed this Dell OptiPlex 3010 computer from the Windows Server 2008 Active Directory then I still experience the same issue.
So as another test, I setup the other new Dell OptiPlex 3010 with the same Windows 7 Professional OS with SP1.
This time, I did not join the Windows Server 2008 Active Directory and I was able to successfully download the full Norton installation files, download the full Adobe Reader installation files, download my emails from Microsoft Outlook 2010, etc.
But once I joined this computer to the Windows Server 2008 Active Directory then I am not able to download these files and emails at all.
It seems like there might be some group policy or a security setting that is preventing these downloads so I disabled the group policy on the Windows Server 2008 AD and Windows 7 Profession OS, but it didn’t resolve the issue.
I disabled all of the firewall programs on this Windows 7 Professional OS, but it still did not resolve the issue.
Since the Windows Server 2008 AD did not have DHCP installed, I installed DHCP and setup a scope.
Then configured the Windows 7 Professional OS to obtain an IP address, but it didn’t resolve the issue.
If I move this Windows 7 Professional computer to another network where it did not have any Active Directory; it just had a wireless router serving DHCP then everything works on the Windows 7 Pro computer.
Any ideas what is the root cause when a Windows 7 Professional computer join a Windows Server 2008 AD?
    Thanks,
    wl_tech

    Hi,
Could you please tell some information for the AD environment and how it connect to the internet?
Regarding 3rd party installlers didn't work as expected, please also seek help in their offical website.
For outlook not receiving emails, could you please take a look in
Event Viewer and see if there are any special errors logged there?
And when trying to access the website like
www.usatoday.com, any special errors IE showed out?

  • Require list of all events for Windows Server 2008 Active Directory

    Hi all,
I require list of all events for Windows Server 2008 Active Directory. Event Log name for Active Directory log is "Directory Service".
    Regards,
    SR

    Hi,
    Thanks for your posting.
Do you mean you want to list all Active Directory logs into one file named “Directory Services”?
If that, it’s hard to achieve. There are kinds of Active Directory logs stored in different locations and they have different file formats. It’s hard
to collect them into one file.
Active directory records events in the directory services log in Event Viewer. By default, Active Directory records only critical error events. To instruct Active
Directory to record other events in the directory services log, we need to modify registry.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 problem

    Hi there
I'm a newbie to Flash media server and I would like to explore its usage.
Does any one have experience with Flash Media Server 3.5.3 running on Windows Server 2008 R2? I installed FMS on my Windows Server 2008 R2, but the admin console cannot start.
By the way, I installed FMS on a Windows Server 2003 32-bit machine. And I'm able to use the admin console on Server 2003 to connect to the Server 2008 R2 installation.
Also, I have a separate disk that is used to hold the media content to be streamed via FMS. How can I configure FMS to use that disk as root for media file instead of using "c:\program files (x86)\...\webroot\vod"
Thanks very much in helping me to start the project.
    Best Regards
    Steve Yau

ForThanks very much for your prompt response.
For (1), if I start "Flash Media Administration Console" from the Start menu, an IE prompts up and it tries to open "c:\program files(x86)\Adobe\Flash Media Server 3.5\tools\fms_adminConsole.htm" with the following in the information bar:
"An add-on for this website failed to run. Check the security settings in Internet Options for potential conflicts"
I thought it was the problem of flash player that cannot be run on 64-bit IE, so i tried 32-bit IE, but still in vain. I also tried to install flash player using 32-bit IE on Windows server 2008 R2 but the installation cannot start.
The FMSAdmin service is surely running with firewall configured. I've also installed FMS on another Windows Server 2003 32-bit. There I can start the admin console and connect to the Windows Server 2008 R2 FMSAdmin service.
For (2), I've added the line as per your kind help. But my question will be: How can I test whether my FMS is correctly streaming the video? For Windows Media Service, I can easily open URL in WMP and the streaming can be verified easily. But I don't know how to test FMS setup from web client side. Any clues? For your information, I don't have Adobe Flash or Dreamweaver stuff.
Thanks again for your kind help
    Regards

  • Windows Server 2008 - Activating 180 evaluation period

I recently installed an evaluation copy of Windows Server 2008 which I downloaded from the Microsoft evaluation website. I did not immediately go through any activation process. I wasn't clear about the process previously but have attempted to activate
the software now as it now indicates that the Windows license is expired and the copy of Windows is not genuine. The issue I have with attempting to activate my copy is that the server is located on a private network where I do not have online access. There
does not appear to be any other option available to complete the activation.

    Hi,
Regarding the issue here, please check the below KB article to see if it could help:

    Best Regards,
This being an OEM copy you cannot move this to another server. You can only do that with Volume Licensing of server.

  • Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Trust

    Hi ,
Can anyone help with the answer to the following questions please?
    a) Whether Microsoft Windows Server 2008 SP2 Standard Edition support AD trust relationships (one-way; two-way)
    b) Whether we can create trust between Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 Standard Edition AD servers?
    Thanks in advance.
    India1947

    Hello,
First of all, please confirm the firewall on the Windows Server 2008, the TCP/IP filter or any 3 party firewall is not blocking the RPC and ICMP traffic between two domain controllers.
    1.    Have a test of creating and verifying trust while all firewalls are all disabled. Then re-create and verify the trust to check how it works.
Allowing Inbound Network Traffic that Uses Dynamic RPC
    http://207.46.196.114/windowsserver2008/en/library/d37f96c6-c729-4b29-80a9-88db3d97b8631033.mspx
    2.    If it still fails, please try to collect the following information for our further investigation:
    -      Run "Netdiag /v >>netdiag.txt" on both DCs
    -      Network Monitor trace when verifying the trust:
Download the NetMon3.1 from the following link:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=18b1d59d-f4d8-4213-8d17-2f6dde7d7aac&DisplayLang=en
    1.    Install the NetMon on Windows Server 2008.
    2.    In the Microsoft Network Monitor 3.1 window, click Create a new capture tab….
    3.    In the new tab, select all the Network Adapter in the Select Networks window.
    4.    After that, press F10 to start NetMon.
    5.    In the Active Directory Domains and Trusts, try to verify the trust to reproduce the issue.
    6.    After that, go back to the Netmon window and press F11 to stop the Netmon on the Windows Vista machine.
    7.    Press Ctrl+S to save the Netmon files.
Please send files to [email protected]

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 - BSOD Stop Error 0x00000050 RDPWD.SYS

    Hi all,
I have been struggling with a BSOD for the past 5 weeks and have scoured the web trying in vain to find someone else with the same issue.
    Environment:
8 x 2008 R2 SP1 Windows Servers (8Gb RAM, 25Gb HDD) with Remote Desktop Services Roles installed, running as part of an RDS Farm.  All Servers are VM Guests (hardware version 7) running on VMware vSphere v4.1.0-260247 Hosts (Dell
PowerEdge R710 - 128Gb RAM).  Our vSphere 'farm' has 5 Hosts that connect to our EMC SAN via iSCSI with multipath routes.
Each RDS Server is load balanced via a Connection Broker, and each server has the same set of software / vm hardware installed.  In a nutshell, each has Symantec Endpoint Protection v11.0.5002.333, Symantec Altiris v7.0, Microsoft Office 2007 as well as
other various software essential to these servers.
    Symptoms:
Randomly throughout the day, one (or more) of the RDS Servers will crash with a BSOD more often than not with "caused by driver ntoskrnl.exe" sometimes with "cng.sys" and once with "ksecpkg.sys".  So far in the 5 weeks I have had 90 crashes.  Yesterday
all 8 of the RDS Servers crashed at some point throughout the day.
On a typical BSOD, it says:
The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ntoskrnl.exe
    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
    Technical Information:
    *** STOP: 0x00000050 (0xfffffa800c153284, 0x0000000000000001, 0xfffff880053dc0c9, 0x0000000000000000)
    *** ntoskrnl.exe - Address 0xfffff8000169ac40 base at 0xfffff8000161e000 DateStamp 0x4e02aaa3
Using BlueScreenView it says "caused by address: ntoskrnl.exe+7cc40" nearly every time.
I have analysed as best I could using Microsoft WinDbg, and this is the output of a typical mini-dump file:

The RDS servers are set to reboot automatically, and after a period of 5 minutes or so, the users can reconnect and log back in.  On a typical day each server will have around 10 people RDP'd in to them.
The Users connecting to the RDS Servers included XP laptops/desktops and IGEL UD-120-LX Thin Terminals.  The XPs have SP3 installed and are fully patched via Symantec Altiris.
    Things I have tried:
    - Analyse the dump-files (as per above).
    - I have tracked each user logging on to the RDS Farm (via batch scripts) and tried to determine if this is caused by the same individual(s) but it appears random.
    - Check to see if the crashing Virtual Machine is running on a specific host, but it has happened on all Hosts.
    - Check to see if there was anything specific that happened on the day that the crashes started.  There were about 5 new poeple introduced to the RDS Farm at that time, but there were using (a) client machines that had been used previously elsewhere with
no issues, (b) software that had been used previously, (c) in a remote location that had previous users using RDS, (d) have not been logged on to a RDS Server when it has crashed.
    - Updated Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 to the latest patches (as of Feb 2012).
    - Turned on Verifier (using recommended settings), and then analysed dump-files with the same reference to rdpwd.sys.
    - Fixed the Memory Resource Reservation in vSphere to the full 8Gb for all these RDS Servers (so that the memory is not shared at all).
    - Ran MEMTEST on a VM Guest with the full 8Gb RAM, on a couple of the ESX Hosts.
    - Changed the VMTools Video Driver to the SVGA II driver from the Standard VGA Driver.
    - Ran a full AV Scan (using SEP).
    - Isolated the Printer Drivers using the Printer Management MMC.
    - Ran sfc /scannow of all RDS Servers and rebooted.
The mini-dump file mentioned above is here:https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=48f471f287af2349&resid=48F471F287AF2349!105&parid=48F471F287AF2349!103
I hope someone can help, as what hair I have left (from pulling it out) is turning grey!

    Please start by that:
    Update all possible drivers
    Uninstall all unused programs
Disable all security softwares you have
    Run chkdsk /r /f and sfc /scannow
Run memtest86+ to check if all is okay with your RAM. If an error was detected then replace the faulty RAM or contact your manufacturer Technical Support
If this does not help then upload MEMORY.DMP file (You can zip it and divide it using 7-ZIP) using Microsoft Skydrive and post a link here.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 hangs on Welcome screen

    Hi people,
I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter with Hyper-V role installed. This is production server DELL PowerEdge R710 with 72GB memory. Since few months ago I had problem, from time to time, to RDP to server because it was taking too much time to pass
from Welcome screen to desktop. Last week when i restarted it I couldn't login to it at all, it hangs on Welcome screen for hours. Well I'm aware of Microsoft walktrought and i used devnodeclean /r and after 2 hours it cleaned registry from ghost drives created
by DPM and after restart i still got a problem. I can't install hotfix from safe mode so i can't really try that solution. Same thing with Welcome screen hanging is happening when i: RDP to it with msft rdp, with visionapp, dell drac kvm console and directly
on server. Virtual machines on it is working and i can access Hyper-V from other server console untill i try to login and then RPC service fialed.
    Nemanja

    Hello,
Start by running msconfig and disable all startup items / services except Microsoft ones. Once done, restart the server and check results.
Also, update all possible drivers especially the graphic card one.

  • What is the most powerful books for Windows server 2008 and R2?

    Hi,
There are many books out there that cover Windows server 2k8 and its R2 successor but i wonder which ones to focus on. In the same time, all books are for one purpose, "Windows Server 2008". Each author has his/her own view on the platform. I don't
want to read them all just to avoid confusions and complications.
These are the list of books that i have along with books that i finished reading them:
Exam 70-640 Configuring Windows Server® 2008 Active Directory® (Finished this)
Exam 70-642 Configuring Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure (Finished this)
Exam 70-643 Configuring Windows Server 2008 Application Infrastructure
    (Finished this)
    Exam 70-646 Windows_Server__2008_Server_Administrator_Second_Edition (Finished this)
    Mastering_Windows_Server_2008_R2 (Finished this)
    McGraw.Hill.Microsoft.Windows.Server.2008.Administration.Feb.2008
    McGraw.Hill.Microsoft.Windows.Server.2008.The.Complete.Reference.Feb.2008
    OReilly.Windows.Server.2008.The.Definitive.Guide.Mar.2008
    Sams.Teach.Yourself.Windows.Server.2008.in.24.Hours.May.2008
    Sybex.MCTS.Windows.Server.2008.Active.Directory.Configuration.Study.Guide
Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Resource Kit (Finished this)
Windows Server 2008 Networking and Network Access Protection (Finished this)
    Windows Server 2008 Unleashed
    Windows Server 2008 R2 Unleashed
Do you think the unfinished books worth reading?
    Appreciate your help.

Thank you for the reply. My goal is to read everything (ins and outs) about Win 2008 and R2 platforms before i jump into Win 2012. I have pretty good experience in certain roles in Win 2008 such ADDS and ADCS. As clarified, i've finished a good number of
books but i want to make sure that i didn't miss a single piece of information that maybe covered in another book.
Honestly, i find the Technet docs are informative but daunting. On the other hand, books written by authors are more friendly because authors can throw jokes while explaining a certain technology, which makes the reader more attracted to the topic. In addition,
examples, practices, labbing, and quizzes in the books are more fun.

  • EPM 11.1.2.1 Installation problem on Laptop (Windows Server 2008 R2 x64)

    Dear All,
I hope someone can help me here with EPM 11.1.2.1 installation problem on my notebook - Windows Server 2008 R2 x65, 8 GB RAM, running SQLServer 2008 Express.
I installed Hyperion Foundation. The installation and configuration went through successfully.
    I am facing two problems:
    Problem 1
When I try to access the workspace through the URL http://hostname:19000/workspace/index.jsp, I get error:
    Quote
    Failure of server APACHE bridge:
No backend server available for connection: timed out after 10 seconds or idempotent set to OFF.
    End-quote
    Problem 2
Also, the service "Hyperion EPM Server" service not able to start. When I try to start, I get error message:
    Quote
The Hyperion EPMA Server service on Local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs.
    End-quote
I tried checking everything but can't seem to figure out what's going wrong.
I have uploaded (1) EPM Config Manager screenshot (2) EPM System diagnostic report (3) EPM Registry editor output and (4) system services listing at
    http://www.mediafire.com/?pr9l1v99w4d9u4r,c3vggxeibqkxbo2,lyzclu2aggbn8qh,8kur9gxal5b361z
It would be very grateful if someone can have a look and help me.
Many thanks in advance for any help / pointers / suggestions.
    - Neil

    Hi Pablo,
Thanks to your suggestion for database, problem #2 seem to be resolved. I am now able to start EPMA Service.

  • VDI 3.4 Inegrate with Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory

OK,I follow the official documents step by step,I installed the vdi 3.4 in Oracle Linux 5.7(oraclevdi.jiayutester.com),then installed a window server 2008 r2 64bit(jiayudc.jiayutester.com) that made it to be the Domain Controller(jiayutester.com) and DNS,at the end,I edit the /etc/krb5.conf.I execute the following commands:
    1.getent hosts jiayudc.jiayutester.com
    --------------------My Note:Normal-----------
    2.kinit -V [email protected]
    Authenticated to Kerberos v5

    default = FILE:/var/log/krb5libs.log
    kdc = FILE:/var/log/krb5kdc.log
    admin_server = FILE:/var/log/kadmind.log

    debug = false
    ticket_lifetime = 36000
    renew_lifetime = 36000
    forwardable = true
    krb4_convert = false
Then,I login to the web console to set company, I select Active Directory to use as User Directory, then I fill up all the needed information(I am sure that all the information I fill in the form is correct),when I click the next, error occured....it's the context:
Unable to Connect to User Directory
Failed to connect, no servers available
    Now,I searched everywhere for information,but I can't resolve the problem...Please help me,smart guys

Would probably need to see your VDI instance cacao log file to see why this is failing, but you might need to add the following to [libdefaults] section of your krb5.conf file, for 2008R2 AD server:
    default_tkt_enctypes = rc4-hmac
    default_tgs_enctypes = rc4-hmac
And then restart VDI services (/opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda-service restart)
Note that VDI will actually try to query individual AD servers as defines as part of your AD Global Catalog when it tries to lookup AD domain data. This means you need to verify that your global calalog referenced servers are valid and having matching forward and reverse DNS information:
    For example:
    $ *nslookup -querytype=any gc.tcp.vdi.com.*
    Server:          win2008.vdi.com
    Address:     192.168.1.100#53
    gc.tcp.vdi.com     service = 0 100 3268 win2008.vdi.com*.
    $ nslookup win2008.vdi.com.
    Server:          win2008.vdi.com
    Address:     192.168.1.100#53
    Name:     win2008.vdi.com
    Address: _192.168.1.100_
    r$ nslookup 192.168.1.100
    Server:          win2008.vdi.com
    Address:     192.168.1.100#53
    100.1.168.192.in-addr.arpa     name = win2008.vdi.com.*
You'd want to verify that every record returned by the *nslookup -querytype=any gc.tcp.yourdoamin.com* command refers to a server that can be reached and has matching forward and reverse DNS. Otherwise, this may trigger VDI to have failures or delays in performing directory queries.
Beyond that, you need to look in the cacao.log file for errors that you can find and post.

  • Active-Passive Failover cluster in Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hi,
As per the client requirements, I build an active-passive Oracle 11g R2 database cluster in Windows Server 2008 R2.
(Used Microsoft cluster as Client don't have Fail Safe licence)
As per the configuration, I follow the below mentioned steps:
a)OS vendor configured Active-Passive Windows Cluster
b)Installed Oracle 11g R2 on both the nodes with same ORACLE_HOME name
c)Create Listener and configured it with cluster IP in Node1
d)Create Database from Node1. Physical files location are all in Storage
e)Create Oracle Service with the same name in the 2nd node and copy all the files like spfile,tnsnames.ora,listener.ora,password file to Node2
f)Configure Listener with the same Oracle SID.
g)Test database failover from Node2 with Listener registration
h)Open the Windows Failover Manager to configure the Oracle Database and Listener Service in the Cluster Group
Now I am facing problem by moving Cluster Group movement. Whenever trying to moving the group, Listerner service is not getting up by Cluster Manager as quorum is not included in the group and that quorum disk is not moving in the failover node with the Oracle Cluster Group. As per my understanding Quorum having information of Cluster IP which has been configured with Listener.
But when I am shutdown one node, then in the other node all the resources successfully moving and cluster able to online all the resources. I guess at that time Quorum is also moving and thus cluster can able to make Listener online.
Please suggest how to resolve this issue. Means how can I make Listener up instead having any dependencies with Quorum in the fail over node?
Thanks a lot for your help.

    hello
I was going through your post and i am also doing the same thing here at our organisation for Oracle 10g R2
Can you pls send me any docs u r having for configuration of Oracle in windows clusters .
And, can you pls elaborate on this point
e)Create Oracle Service with the same name in the 2nd node and copy all the files like spfile,tnsnames.ora,listener.ora,password file to Node2.
Pls send me the details at [email protected] or you can contact me at 08054641476.
