Windows server 2008 R2 browsing the network

We just migrated to Server 2008 R2 and now we are having network browsing issues
When searching computers can only see local cannot search on different subnets?
Our CEO I sold school and like to browse the network to connect to a server and when he is not at the headquarters he no longer can browse computers at the headquarter location?
Is this a Bug or a service?
If you try and search for a computer name it also does not work can only search for local computers
if you type the computer name directly in my computer it works and you can connect

This issue occurs because the IPAddress registry entries at the following location are incorrectly overwritten by a newly added IP address instead of the whole list of IP addresses:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\<GUID>
Note <GUID> is a placeholder for the GUID of the network adapter that is encountering the issue.

I am a person only work for linux system. Recently i work for my company that using microsoft technologie. So i have a lot of trouble. Could you please help me and below are my big troble that i have met:
In my system, i have the first window SBS server 2008 run on our domain. However my organization growth up and we have more than 150 users and mailbox of exchange server 2007. So i do not want to use my sbs server 2008 anymore.
I am going to install a window server 2008 R2 64 bit and join it into the same domain with sbs server 2008. It will be replicate the username, dns, OU and group policy...After that i will tranfer FSMO role to new server and i will demote then remove the
sbs server.
My boss say that i should not use this solution because window server sbs can not run with any other kinds of window server 2008 (R2, standard, enterprise...) and it will automatically shutdown the main server after a couple of days.
Someone have experience can help me. I am so confuse now

Hi,
According to this KB article, there are many exceptions where this KB is not applicable.
Please perform the following steps:
Expand the “For all supported…” title in the File Information section in the KB article.
Find Crypt32.dll.mui files on your machine.
Then compare the file version, file size, data and time with the ones listed in the KB article.
If there is a match, then this KB doesn’t apply to your machine, which is by design.

Adobe Acrobat 9.41 Pro+ on Snow Leopard 10.6.5 + Network users (Windows server 2008) = CRASH!

Adobe Acrobat 9.41 Pro will work “great” on the admin account, however through the active directory log on of network users, every user gets the long crash report upon opening the application.
Permissions are set so “everyone” can gain access, however the crash issue is not a decent setting on the Mac environment.
Will welcome any thoughts..comments… and suggestions.

Networked Macs see Windows server, but suddenly not the internet

My girlfriend works at a small business running about 10 PCs and a Windows server. Also on the network are about 15 VOIP telephones. She's had an emac on the network working fine for a few months. It was connecting to the server and the to the internet. Then one day, no more internet. (None of the PCs are experiencing this problem.) Coincidentally, the next day a new Mini arrived. We set it up (to 10.4.3) and it saw the server, it saw the internet. Everything was beautiful and then poof. No more internet. It was working when she left work, it even received POP mail between her leaving last night and coming in this morning.
(I don't think this is the culprit, but it's worth mentioning that first thing this morning, she installed Microsoft Office. After she installed Office, the internet no longer worked. She didn't check her internet connection before installing the new software, but I suspect this is not a related issue. The emac does not have Office installed at all.)
The macs have been restarted and put to sleep and then woken up. All of the PCs get their internet connection after routing through the VOIP phones and so do the macs. We've taken the phone out of the equation, but still no luck.
Sorry this is such a vague description of the problem, but I don't know so much about inter-platform networking, so I'm not sure what to look for. And I don't know anything about TCP/IP or other networking protocols, so if there are any clues in the packets, I wouldn't see them. The most puzzling thing here is that it was working fine, and after seemingly nothing has changed, now it's not.

It looks like your getting an address okay. Have you tried out a variety of applications to see if it only happens on certain ones? (eg, web browser but not iTunes) If it's okay to run that at work, anyway
Some explanations of the gibberish below:
en0: That's the short name for your network card. If you have multiple cards or other manufacturers this can be different but it's fairly standard. There will also be another device called lo0 displayed usually. This is called a loopback device and points to you machine. It will have the address 127.0.0.1 It's a good way to test servers or other things running on your machine, by connecting to that address. It's not really useful in this case, but knowledge is power
The flags indicate what the status of the network card is. It's up, and running normally for most networks. The mtu setting indicates the size of packets of data transmitted by your network card. 1500 is fairly common, but some networks or ISPs may note a smaller size in their support pages. If no one has been monkeying with your network recently, assume this is okay.
inet6 is support for the eventual switch to a better internet addressing standard. nothing to worry about here.
inet 192.168.50.54 is you address on the local network. So you're getting an IP at least. If a Windows machine on the network has taken that address as well, that can cause problems. It shouldn't happen, but it does occasionally. The windows box will typically spit up a warning dialog on the screen pretty quickly if that happens. I haven't run into it on my mini yet so I'm not sure if Internet Connect will pop up the icon with the lightning symbol or nor.
The netmask is a hexidecimal number showing the range or "scope" that your subnet (the area of the network you're in) occupies. FFFFFF80 is equal to 255.255.255.128. In this case it means that your subnet is restricted to a range of 127 addresses. If your address and the address of your internet gateway weren't in that range together you'd have a problem, because they wouldn't recognize each other as being part of the same subnet.
But the broadcast address would indicate that they are. Both fit within the range of 192.168.50.1 and 192.168.50.127
If those machines couldn't see each other then instead of your 192.168.x.x address, you'd see the 169.x.x.x address I mentioned, and would be off the network.
So, now that you've been bombarded with all that, it looks like you're okay on the local network so now the task is finding out why you can't see out.
Try a few different apps and see if they succeed, like running the software update, etc. If they work, then it's possible your browsers may need to be configured to use a proxy server to get to the net. That's a lesson for later

Obs: I can make backups for System Reserved Partition .

the issue may be caused by an invalid entry inside the following registry sub tree.
HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
Please open the registry editor with regedit.
Expand and local to the subtree, check if there is an entry that has a ".bak" value appended. If so, this may be cause the failure when trying to resolve the SID of the writer.
Please backup the registry key first, and then delete that entry with the extra ".bak" and reboot the server then test the backup
Run the command "vssadmin list writers" and make sure all the writers are stable with no errors
Please look for errors in application event logs after you initiate backup on the server

8.8 Client cannot connect to Windows Server 2008 error -1102

SAP Business On 8.8 on PL 18
This is not the first time I have had this issue with Windows Server 2008.
however everytime the resolution was diffrent. Now this site is causing trouble.
The issue is the client cannot connect. We have the log on window, can see the company list. type on the password and we get a -1102 error.
The client on the Server itself can log on. It is the cleints that cannot.
I checked these below.
1 SQL Native client is installed and ok.
2. Licence server is configured and ok
3. The user has admin access to locl PC
4. The SAP user name and password are correct ( client on server can connect fine )
5. The ports 1433, 30000 and 30001 are open on the server.
6. Through SQL server configuration the named pipes and TCP are enabled.
7. SQL server browser is running
The only things I have not tried are
The Firewall is running on the server and I have not yet stopped it. Will try that tomorrow.
Do you have any other ideas please ?

I have got this working but I am not confidant of the outcome - yet - I really need your expert advise here.
This is what I did. In that order.
1.     As Owen suggested I checked if there was a specified Port for the instance. What I found was TCP Dynamic ports were enabled ( SQL server config manager | network configuration | tcp properties ) and there was no TCP port specified. Assuming ( ai may be wrong) that the system assigns a dynamic port to this instance I set it up so the Dynamic port does not happen and manually specified the Port 1433. Restarted the SQL Service. ( still having the Port 1433 open in the firewall). This did not solve the issue.
2.     With the above setting still on, switched off the firewall. Went to the PC client and SAP can log on now. Now keeping the SAP client running, switched on the Firewall on the server. Log off SAP on PC client and log back in ( with firewall off ). SAP now can log on.
3.     I had to do the above step for all PCs to get them working.
4. Currently the firewall is on and clients can connect
So what could be happening? I have no clue. It is apparent there is some setting that gets saved within the PCs ( may be user profile) after the first log on with the Firewall off - to say its safe ?
However I have no idea what will happen if the server is restarted u2013 this server we cannot restart any time we want as itu2019s a critical server and runs other things.
I would still like to get to the bottom of this to understand what is happening.
I have a SAP message running too and will ask them this same question.

I think it is not straight forward to install SAP Solution Manager 7.0 in MS Window Server 2008 R2.
I am installing Solution Manager 7.0 , the installation encountered error on Create Java Users step (Phase 31 of 44). When I login to SAP solution Manager system through SAP GUI. I encountered this error:
"OS release Windows NT 6.1 7601 Service Pack 1 4x AMD64 Level 6 (Mod 44 Step 2) is not supported with this kernel (700)'
I found that it is because I am installing SAP Solution Manger 7.0 in MS Window Server 2008 R2, which the existing kernel version does not support.
Do you know which kernel I should install?

I want to getting use from manage scanner service role that is belonging to the print service role in windows server 2008 , which has the feature of passing the scanned document to users shared folders which are exist in the same server.
but when i try to add my printer as a scanner it did not accept .. so i cant proceed with my objective, which is allowing users to pass their scanned docs to their shared folder

I am sorry to hear that.
Here are a few things that I suggest you try:
Grant Full Control for SYSTEM, NETWORK SERVICE and Administrator on C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\networkservice folder.
If you have Windows Process Activation service installed on the machine, uninstall it.
Open required RPC ports.

Windows Server 2008 R2 RRAS NAT Security Concerns

Recently we are deploying Windows Server 2008 R2 as the NAT gateway of our private network. During the testing, we found that the RRAS was doing its job as the NAT gateway,
however it seemed that hosts in the private network were allowed to access any listening port opened on the server side (2008 R2). In the normal scenario, the server side will have the process "wininit.exe" running and listening on the TCP port 49152.
We confirmed that all hosts in the private network were be able to connect to TCP port 49152 opened on the server (connecting by using the NAT's public IP), which introduced lots of security concerns and made us nervous. Since the server is acting as a NAT,
IP packets sent by hosts in the private network will be translated and forwarded as if it is generated by the NAT server itself. Thus, the windows firewall will not block the connection at all while dealing with "local" traffic, which actually is
the traffic from the host in the private network.
What we need is a mechanism that can block the hosts in the private network to access the TCP/UDP ports opened on the NAT server side. Since the NAT server has it IP on
the public network assigned dynamically (DHCP), static IP filtering on the private NIC does not fit our needs (Or probably we may use some hidden but advanced filter settings?). Which policy or setting should be used in our case?

I am aware of what you are suggesting. Actually I have active the windows firewall to protect the server.
Suppose I have a network configuration as follows:
Private Network: 192.168.149.0 / 255.255.255.0 (Private NIC on server side IP:192.168.149.1)
--------------Windows 2008 R2 RRAS NAT--------------------
Public Network: 10.1.0.0 / 255.255.255.0 (Public NIC on server side IP:10.1.0.100 )
The problem is that while the windows firewall is effectively protecting my server by filtering inbound traffic from the public network, the windows firewall will not filter the traffic from
192.168.149.0 /255.255.255.0 to 10.1.0.100 (NAT's public IP)
The reason is that the TCP/UDP connection from the private network (192.168.149.0 / 255.255.255.0) to any other networks will be NATed. Suppose TCP connection from
192.168.149.23:50000 -> 10.1.0.100:1023
It will be translated by NAT and becomes
192.168.149.23:50000 <-NAT-> 10.1.0.100:60100 -> 10.1.0.100:1023
From the windows firewall's point of view, the connection is essentially a 'local' TCP connection and should be allowed regardless of any inbound filtering rules. So vulnerability is introduced. After some research, we are almost sure that the windows firewall
does not filter local traffic. Also, we are not able to guarantee any firewalls on the client side to be installed, since the nature of a NAT server is to provide such network access ability to clients and should not require the client side to change its configuration.
I do think it is a common security concern in lots of enterprise networks where Windows Servers are deployed as NAT servers. Would you mind help us address this issue and give us some advice about best-practices related?
