Windows Server 2008 R2 Does not boot When Back up drive removed
I have a windows Server 2008 R2 Standard server RAID 10 installed. I have a non raid drive installed as the backup HD. The Backup drive is now failing. When I went to switch it with a new one the system does not boot and is asking for
a boot drive. I have been searching for solutions and cannot find any. Any ideas?
Hi,
Could you confirm if your boot volume is on that non-RAID disk (maybe 2 volumes on that disk and one of them is the boot volume)?
At current situation, first please test to connect the failed disk back to the device and see if it will help.
Or you may need to run a boot-up repair with an installation disk.
If you have any feedback on our support, please send to [email protected]

Robocopy on Windows Server 2008 SP2 does not copy folder permissions
When using Robocopy to copy folders and files from one local hard disk to another, using /COPYALL /E /TEE options, the target folder does not contain the source folder's ACL. I've tried other options such as: /COPY:DATSOU or /SECFIX, it made no difference.
Test scenario: Create a folder on C:, Test1. Add to Test1's permissions a local group with Read, e.g. Backup Operators. The ACL list should have permissions inherited from C:\ plus Backup Operators that's not inherited. Use Robocopy to copy Test1 to C:\Test2, check the ACL on Test2. Backup Operators is missing.
It looks like Robocopy cannot override the target folder's permissions inheritance, the folder retains the parent folder's ACL.
I've also disabled User Access Control in troubleshooting this problem.
To add to this issue, there's a workaround can be used to ensure the target folder's ACL is the same as the source folder's ACL. It's a two step process.
1) Use XCOPY source_folder target_folder /I /E /X /T - This lays down the directory structure including the ACLs
2) Use ROBOCOPY source_folder target_folder /COPYALL /SECFIX /E - This will copy over the directories and files, enforcing the files to receive the parent folder's ACL. The target_folder's ACL remain intact, unaltered from XCOPY command.
The end result: the target_folder ACL is identical to the source_folder ACL, the files copied to the target_folder will inherit ACL from their parent folder. Both source and target folders and files ACLs are identical.
ROBOCOPY should do both steps, but doesn't. I've tested this scenario on bare-bones Windows Server 2008, physical and virtual machines.
Darryl MillerTo Wendy23,
Just for clarity, the Windows Server 2008 OS that I ran ROBOCOPY and XCOPY on was the non-R2 version. Microsoft might have fixed this issue in R2.
You'll probably need to logon as local Administrator or use an account belonging to the local Administrators group.
Also, open the Command Prompt using "Run as Administrator" (right-click on Command Prompt), then run the XCOPY and ROBOCOPY commands from within this prompt.
To answer G.Write, the storage is local hard disks.
Thanks, was a long time ago, I was having a problem with robocopy not copying permissions on a SAN, and was wondering if the SAN was the problem, but your method worked fine for me, thanks. -
2012 mac mini does not boot when usb 3 drive is connected
I have a late 2012 Mac Mini, Ivy Bridge, that has a USB 3.0 external hard drive connected to it. If the hard drive is powered on when I power up the Mac Mini, I get a light grey screen, but never see the Apple logo and the system just sists there. If I boot the Mac Mini with the USB 3.0 drive connected, but powered off, the Mac Mini boots just fine. Interestingly enough, if I reboot the Mac Mini with the USB 3.0 hard drive attached, the Mac Mini boots normally. I have installed all of the OS patches I can find and have not had any luck in resolving this. Does anyone have an idea what might be going on?
Something to check. Power everything down. Turn on
your external drives then do a PRAM zap booting the MIni.
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11243
It may or may not help.
If it doesn't, then check the system log starting from the time
you start up the Mini and see what the last entry was. Wait a fair
amount of time so a gap in time in the log can be seen when you turn
the drive off. Could determine if it is some hardware issue, as BDAqua
was suggesting, or a driver issue. -
When I try to play music downloaded from itunes on my iPhone 4S it says 'this URL is not found on the server'. This does not happen when I play the same music on my iPad. The music plays fine. The message also comes up when I try and login to iTunes on my iMac. Can anyone help?
I too am having the same issue as the OP.

My Mac Mini does not boot, after backing the enire system onto an external drive with Carbon Copy Clone. I had switched the start-up disk back to the original of course. Now all I see is the Apple logo. What should I do? Thanks in advance.
Try disconnecting any external devices, especially hard drives
and try rebooting.
If that doesn't help, then :
If you are running Lion, boot to the Recovery HD and run a
Repair Disk on the OSX partition.
If Snow Leopard, boot to the installl DVD and run Repair Disk.

Is there a fix or upgrade to deal with the many problems I am experiencing since I installed Lion? I can no longer utilize Time Machine (Does not see the back-up drive); my wireless mouse does not work properly; my iMac has slowed down considerably. I am reminded of having a PC machine again. Bummer!
Either downgrade to Snow Leopard or try reinstalling Lion.
Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files. -
PT 8.53 Windows Server 2008 R2 Error on booting domain.
Hi all,
We are setting up a test environment for PT 8.53 on Windows Server 2008 R2. Everything in the installation went correctly then we try to boot the domain in PSADMIN for the first time we are getting an error when trying to:
exec BBL -A:
CMDTUX_CAT:816: ERROR: Cannot exec, executable file not found
tmboot: WARN: No BBL available on site <server name>.
Will not attempt to boot server processes on that site.
Tuxedo info: Oracle Tuxedo, Version 11.1.1.2.0 with VS2010, 64-bit, Patch Level 056
Just seeing if anyone else has come accross this or has any ideas we could try.
Thanks.
Edited by: 991229 on Mar 1, 2013 7:15 AMInteresting, when you did the configure step in psadmin, did BBL start then or does it fail there as well? I've not installed 8.53 yet anywhere, but in my 8.52 env, doing a reconfig will start the BBL to ensure things are shut down. My guess is it fails, which I think would cause your configuration to not occur maybe?
Command to execute (1-10, q) : 4
This option will shutdown the domain.
Do you want to continue? (y/n) [n] :y

Attaching to active bulletin board.
What if you get all your env variables set, and try to run tmadmin by hand?
set TUXDIR, PATH, PS_MACH, PS_HOME, PS_CFG_HOME, PS_SERVDIR, PS_SERVER_CFG, TUXCONFIG, LD_LIBRARY_PATH, NTSYMBOL_PATH, APPDIR (I think that's all of them, I'd have to look again)
then from cmd prompt run tmadmin
at the tmadmin prompt run boot -y
that would extract psadmin from the process, if that fails to find BBL, then I think you might need to pull out Process Monitor from sysinternals, and trace the tuxedo start process, which will show you what path BBL is really being looked for in, and possible help you solve this. You can also use Process Explorer to review what environment variables are set for what processes (such as psadmin or tmadmin).
Let me know what you find, as I'm interested in knowing what is causing this. -
KT6V + sempron 2800 does not boot when BIOS saved
Hi,
I have just bought a new sempron 2800 to be use on a KT6V LSR. I plugget in my KT6V but was not recognised well (but all was working ok with windows). To be recognised, I have flashed with the last bios of MSI my motherboard... and now I have the following problem:
- I clear CMOS, then boot. It comes ok (processor detected and set a 1200Mhz)
- Then CMOS has a bad checksum: I enter setup, then load default, save.
- I reboot: the computer does not boot up.
If I re-clear CMOS I can re-enter setup and modify frequencies or other options. But when I save my modifications, then the computer does not reboot anymore (I have to re-clear cmos again)...
I tried to apply the configuation I found in this thread:
http://forums.amd.com/lofiversion/index.php/t69536.html
It says that SDRAM must be at 333, FSB at 166 and multiplicator at 12. When applying this settings, it does not boot (the leds indicate that the chipset initialisation (the first step) does not pass).
If I just load biios default, the leds indicates that it fails when checking the memory (second step of boot). I suspect that it's a problem of memory (but my memory was working well before !): it's 2x512 of DDR 400.
Any suggestion is appreciated :D . I spent several hours trying to configure the bios but it does not boot..
(I'll also try to find help on AMD forums...)
(Some extra info: my PSU is 26A for 12V, so it seems that it's not due to the PSU (as I read in the FAQ of this forum).
Thanks,

Server 2008 R2 does not show Internet Explorer 10/11 Group Policy options
Hello,
I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 server that has IE11 installed. I am attempting to create a GPO to control Proxy settings for IE10/11 clients, however, when I go to User Config>Preferences> Control Panel Settings> Internet Settings and Right click,
I do not see an option for IE10, only IE5 and 6, IE7, and IE8.
I have downloaded and installed the Administrative Templates for Internet Explorer from
here, and followed the installation instructions, but still, the option does not show up. I have ensured that all the latest Windows Updates are installed on the server, and rebooted
the server a couple times.
What am I missing here?

This setting determines whether the Properties menu item is enabled, and thus, whether the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box is available to users.
If you enable this setting (and enable the "Enable Network Connections settings for Administrators" setting), the Properties menu items are disabled for all users, and users cannot open the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box.
Important: If the "Enable Network Connections settings for Administrators" is disabled or not configured, this setting will not apply to administrators on post-Windows 2000 computers.
If you disable this setting or do not configure it, a Properties menu item appears when users right-click the icon representing a LAN connection. Also, when users select the connection, Properties is enabled on the File menu.
Note: This setting takes precedence over settings that manipulate the availability of features inside the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box. If this setting is enabled, nothing within the properties dialog box for a LAN connection is available to
users.

If you enable this setting (and enable the "Enable Network Connections settings for Administrators" setting), the check boxes for enabling and disabling components are disabled. As a result, administrators cannot enable or disable the components that
a connection uses.
Important: If the "Enable Network Connections settings for Administrators" is disabled or not configured, this setting will not apply to administrators on post-Windows 2000 computers.
If you disable this setting or do not configure it, the Properties dialog box for a connection includes a check box beside the name of each component that the connection uses. Selecting the check box enables the component, and clearing the check box disables
the component.
Note: When the "Prohibit access to properties of a LAN connection" setting is enabled, users are blocked from accessing the check boxes for enabling and disabling the components of a LAN connection.

HP Z620 does not boot when external Seagate hard drive is connected
I'm troubleshooting an HP Z620 workstation with 32GB RAM, one 500GB HDD + one 1TB HDD running Win 7 Enterprise 64 bits, this user has 2 external USB 3.0 HDDs, one Buffalo 2TB + one Seagate Desktop Backup Plus 4TB; the problem comes when the external Seagate HDD is connected and the PC is turned one, for some reason the PC does not boots, it shows a message that states "Non-disk or no boot disk error" and sometimes it tries to boot, but then goes thru the "Windows repair option" or "Start Windows normally" routine, none of these results on starting the PC.
The only way this PC starts and works properly is when PC is started with the external Seagate HDD disconnected and then connected once the Win 7 is up and running; the problem described above does not happens with the external Buffalo 2TB HDD and the Seagate HDD have been tested throughly and no errors or problems have been detected on it.
I'll really appreciate your attention to this, as well as your prompt response.

Cisco LMS 4.1 Installation on Windows Server 2008 R2, Databases not created
Hi There,
As always, I am trying to install LMS 4.1 on windows server 2008 R2 and after the installation and login to the LMS I find the following:
DCRServer is down or may not be completely up. Check if the DCRServer process is running.
And after some troubleshooting I found that the LMS is not creating the CMF database and the other databases. Attached is the installation log file, if someone could help me with it would be appreciated. Please note the following:
1. I have downloaded the installation file from Cisco website twice, so I do not think it is the file that is corrupted, also it is only evaluation license.
2. I have met all the prerequisites and requirement as in the documentation guides, but maybe there is something still wrong.
Thanks,Also Here is more info output:

Hi,
I am using Spartan-6 PCIe Endpoint Block core v1.3 and I am using ISE 12.1. I have used the PIO example design,
modified it according to our design.
The core is configured as below:
BAR0 - 8KB, 32-bit, Memory Type
Lanes - x1
Clock - 125 MHz (system clock)
The card is a custom board. When the card is pluged into the system the system does not boots, it hangs.
I have tried debugging using chipscope and monitored trn_lnk_up_n, trn_reset_n and trn_clk. trn_lnk_up_n stays
high (deasserted), trn_reset_n stays low (asserted), trn_clk is low (No clk).
What might be the issue?
Thanks & Regards. Thanks Gabor, for the response.
I refered couple of answer records like AR# 34873 and AR# 34894, I monitored trn_reset_n, sys_reset_n, clock_locked, PLLLKDET and RESETDONE signals as suggested in AR# 34894.
Status as follows:
SYS_RESET_N = 1 (deasserted)
TRN_RESET_N = 0 (asserted)
CLOCK_LOCKED = 0 (deasserted)
PLLLKDET = 0 (deasserted)
RESETDONE = 0 (deasserted)
which means the transceiver PLL frequency is not within the predetermined tolerance. Is this problem related to the PCIe Jitter Attenuator I am using on the board to derive 125MHz from 100MHz system Clock.
Thanks & Regards -

Windows server 2008 R2 is not showing the second hard disk.
Hi,
We are having two windows server 2008 R2. In that we have, two hard disk and each with 146GB storage capacity. But it is displaying only the storage capacity of a single hard disk. Seems like the second hard disk in not recognized.
What can be done to clear this?
Regards
Manoj SHi,
As Burak mentioned, first you need to check if it displayed in Disk Management.
If so, see if you can initial it, create a volume and assign a drive letter.
If not, check if it is recognized in BIOS. Also test if it could be recognized in another computer.

Script stops automatically on windows server 2008, IE8 is not launched or it doesn't navigate
QTP 11.0 - Script stops automatically on windows server 2008, IE8 and works fine on other standalone machines having Windows 7. Pls advise. It is very weird, it suddenly stops launching IE8. Sometimes it launches IE8 but des not navigate from one step to another. I have scheduled it using a vbscript though windows scheduler. I tired to uninstall QTP, then reinstall, it works fine for first run but stops again.
To Wendy23,
Just for clarity, the Windows Server 2008 OS that I ran ROBOCOPY and XCOPY on was the non-R2 version.
