Windows Server 2008 R2 Printer Migration

Hi Guys,
This is more of a reassurance than a question but i just want to be 100% sure.
I'm a second line engineer trying to gain exposure into third line and i have been given a small project to migrate some printers from a Windows Server 2008 machine to a Server 2008 R2 machine which is an already established priner server hosting 95% of
our printers.
My (possibly silly) question is if i export the printers from the 2008 server can i import them onto the 2008 R2 server without overwriting whats already there.
I have seen printers migrated from scratch but i just wanted to make sure i can add the to whats allready there,
All the drivers x64 and x86 are already in place.
Thanks

Hi,
Sorry for my delay.
Based on your description, did you mean that migrate Print Servers from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server
2008 R2?
You can use the Printer Migration Wizard or the Printbrm.exe command-line tool to export print queues, printer
settings, printer ports, and language monitors, and then import them on another print server that is running a Windows operating system. This is an efficient way to consolidate multiple print servers or replace an older print server.
Please refer to following articles and check if can help you.

If anything I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Hope this helps.

  • Weird issue with Windows Server 2008 R2 Print Server

I have an issue with Windows 2008 R2 (VMWare Hosted) running Windows Print Server.
Prior to a small network change, the print server was working well, hosting about 80 different networked printers from various vendors.
We made a change (that we ended up rolling back) to the Client's DHCP Scope OPT 006 (DNS Servers). The DNS servers never quite worked right and broke AD authentication to different servers, and was just a mess.
After rolling back we are not able to keep the printers online. If we ping them from the print server, the printer(s) never wake up, when a print job is submitted. If we ping them from one of the access switches, they work fine (until they fall back asleep),
to prevent this, if we start a ping on the server AFTER waking them up from the Switch Ping, they stay online and no problems.
If we stop the ping, they fall back asleep at some point, and again, won't wake up without intervention/switch side ping.
Has anyone experienced anything like this? Any tips on how I could possibly resolve it?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
According to your description, the issue seems to be that the printers can't keep online. Sounds like a power managerment issue. Why these printers fall into sleep? Have you consulted this issue with the manufacturer of these printers? Do these printers
fall into sleep if them lose the contact with printer server? Have you tried to reset the printers?
    >>We made a change (that we ended up rolling back) to the Client's DHCP Scope OPT 006 (DNS Servers).
DNS client will cache the recently queried records. If the DNS server has replied with a wrong records, communication issues will occur. To clear the DNS cache on a Windows device, please run the command below:
    ipconfig /flushdns

Most likely someone performed some registry edits that although they got the print server operational, it blocks backups up through the Windows 7 version.

This apparently would be possible if the server is running the HP ePrint Enterprise server. HP has an app that then allows an iOS device to print to it. There may be other, similar services, though I haven't found any. Perhaps someone else will know.
This is the iPad forum, by the way.

  • Problems after print server migration to Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hi all,
New forum member, first time poster. I am at my wits end and have concussion from banging my head on the desk for several days running. Hopefully someone here may be able to help.
    Environment
I have recently moved our printing environment from a Windows Server 2003 machine to a new Server 2008 R2 machine in prep for rolling out Windows 7 x64 clients. We have 30-40 printers, majority of which are HP's (M2727's, P4015dn's, CM3530's, P2035's & a CM8060).
My procedure for setting up the printers on the new server involved manually creating each printer and using up-to-date drivers, we wanted to start fresh. The HP's are all using the HP Universal PCL 5 or PCL 6 (61.115.1.10527) x86 & x64 driver. We use Desktop Authority on logon to install the required printers for each client.
    Problems
Since everyone is now running through the 2008 R2 server we have had a bunch of intermittent problems pop up all over the place, mostly with our HP printers. When using the PCL6 driver some applications print a page or 10 of garbled gibberish (wingdings etc), so most printers are now using the PCL5 driver. Other applications print the error "PCL XL error" when using PCL6. Sometimes reinstalling the printer on the client machine will resolve these errors, however they tend to resurface.
When we use the PCL5 driver our M2727's intermittently report "Out Of Memory" on the printer display (they are stock with 64M RAM each) - upgrading the RAM may fix this but we never had this problem before on the 2003 server. This problem is not specific to the size of the printed document - it could be a 20 page report or a 2 page excel document. Resetting the printer will generally clear this issue temporarily. This is currently our most annoying/biggest issue.
Some people are having issues printing to a FujiXerox 340A-AP printer - in particular 1 person is able to print fine, where as another prints and the print margin appears to be far too small. After confirming all print margins on the server then reinstalling the printer on the client machine, the problem still persists. We have two FujiXerox printers, the second one is working as intended for 8-10 users with the exact same settings.
    Attempted Fixes
These are some of the attempted fixes that I have tried:
    Turning it off and on
Upgrading the firmware on the M2727's to resolve garbled printing & out of memory
Upgrading the firmware on the CM3530's to resolve garbled printing
Reinstalling all HP Universal PCL5/PCL6 x86 & x64 drivers on the print server
Ensuring that the 2008 R2 server is 100% up-to-date with MS patches
Backing up all printers on print server, removing the print server role, deleting all printers & drivers, rebooting, reinstalling the print server role and restoring all printers from backup
Upgraded Desktop Authority to the latest version - as this application is in charge of installing the printers on logon
As you can see we are having a lot of problems and nothing seems to make any sense. None of this happened before Windows Server 2008 R2 was brought in to the equation.
If anyone is able to provide any assistance that would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Hartz.

  • Poor print performance with Adobe Reader 11.0.06 on XenApp 6.5/Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

    Hi community,
here are informations to our environment:
    Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1 - mspatchlevel 05/2014
    XenApp 6.5 RP3 + Hotfix_XA650R01W2K8R2X64003 + Hotfix_XA650R03W2K8R2X64013
    AcroRead.msi + 11001.msp + 11003.msp + 11004.msp + 11006.msp
    Network: 10GB
    Problem:
After migration to Adobe Reader 11.0.06 our users are complain about long printingtimes with PDF documents.
    What i have done:
Test printing two different documents from local storage an network (dfs, nfs) - notice the printingtime in our environment depends not on used storage!
    1. 310 pages document with text (7,023KB)
Adobe Acrobat XI on Samsung ML-451x 501x Series driver Version 3.11.39.00.58.01
Average 52 seconds (done 5 same printjobs with same dokument) to print document in spooler.
    Change printer to:
Adobe Acrobat XI on Samsung CLP-770 Series PCL6 Version 3.10.57:76
Average 46 seconds (done 5 same printjobs with same dokument) to print document in spooler.
    2. 4 pages document with grafics (4,438KB)
Adobe Acrobat XI on Samsung ML-451x 501x Series driver Version 3.11.39.00.58.01
Average 45 seconds (done 5 same printjobs with same dokument) to print document in spooler.
    Change printer to:
Adobe Acrobat XI on Samsung CLP-770 Series PCL6 Version 3.10.57:76
Average 39 seconds (done 5 same printjobs with same dokument) to print document in spooler.
Befor migration we have Server 2003 SP2 and XenApp 4.5FR6 with Adobe Reader 9.5.5
I did the same testing but the time to print was much faster!
    1. 15 Seconds to print 310 pages document
    2. 28 seconds to print 4 pages document with grafics
Any ideas to make printing faster on WindowsServer 2008R2 with Adobe Reader?
Next step is testing the old version from reader on 2008R2 but on security aspects is this not the way...
    Thx
    Thomas

    Hi Pat,
    thx for your answer :-)
i will try the older one 9.5.5 and the newest 11.0.07

  • How can I fix this printer error with Samsung SCX-4300 and SCX-4521f on Windows Server 2008 R2?

I have two printers installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit):
    1. Samsung SCX-4521f
    2. Samsung SCX-4300
There are two computers (Windows 7 Professional, 32-Bit) connected to this server that utilise these shared printers.
The drivers installed are as follows:
    SCX-4x21_Win7_Print.exe (Win 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/Win 7    3.04.96:03    Print Driver    11 Dec, 2009    12.37    MULTI LANGUAGE)
    SCX-4300_Print.exe (Win 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/Win 7(32,64bit) 3.04.95:07 Print Driver Jan 19, 2011 53.07 MULTI LANGUAGE)
After printing documents for some time (within a 24 period) the printers no longer respond to print requests.
On the server opening "Control Panel\Hardware\Devices and Printers" shows the two printers with yellow exclamation marks.
The "SCX-4x21" printer shows the "Status" as "Needs troubleshooting" and "Printer: Error".
The "SCX-4300" printer shows the "Status" as "Needs troubleshooting".
Neither will print a test page.
Searching for new drivers automatically returns saying: "The best driver software for your device is already installed".
The error persists and nothing will print.
When double-clicking on the "SCX-4x21" printer (or going to "Control Panel\Hardware\Devices and Printers\Samsung SCX-4x21 Series") you see the following:
"Printer: Error" and "N document(s) in queue".
Clicking on either of these brings up the print queue and shows a document with the status of "Error - Printing".
As each job with an error is cancelled the next one attempts to print and also displays an error like the last.
Once all the jobs are cleared the printer information says "Printer: Ready".
Sending a "Print Test Page" sends the printer into an error state saying "Printer: Error".
With the "SCX-4300", sending a "Print Test Page" displays a bubble saying: "Toner Empty: Replace Toner".
However, I can't see any specific error messages.
How do I find out what exactly "Needs troubleshooting"?
    Please can anyone advise further?

The printer (SCX-4300) has stopped again.
Since it has been stopped I have done your recommendations:
Unticked the "Enable bidirectional support" option under the "Ports" tab in the printer properties.
Set the "Interactive Services Detection" to Automatic and started it.
Unfortunately the printer did not start printing, the print jobs did not restart or delete.
I decided to check the Operational logs that we enabled.
The first job I see goes like this:
    Information: Rendering job 41.
Error: The print spooler failed to delete the file C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\00041.SHD, error code 0x2. See the event user data for context information.
Information: The print job 41 was sent through the print processor SSE1MPC on printer Samsung SCX-4300 Series, driver Samsung SCX-4300 Series, in the isolation mode 1 (0 - loaded in the spooler, 1 - loaded in shared sandbox, 2 - loaded in isolated
sandbox). Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 0x0.
    Information:Printing job 41.
    Information:Spooling job 41.
    This job actually printed.
Other jobs printed fine with no error.
There are no other errors in the "Operational" log other than the "print spooler failed to delete" error.
Any ideas what to try now?
Update: Unticking the "Enable bidirectional support", clearing the print queue and then trying again seems to have fixed the problem for now.

    =================
    So yeah...
    I'm totally stumped now.
I feel like I've tried every method imaginable, but still no luck.
Printing from OSX 10.6.8 works just FINE.
On the server side, I'm running Windows Server 2008... there's only a local admin and a local user account.
Clients running OSX Lion 10.7.2 -- All updated.
Printer is an HP LaserJet P4010-4510 series.
Workstation is an iMac 21.5-inch, Late 2009
3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Please help!!!
    --- Richard

LPD print service is not enabled by default in Server 2008. It can be enabled via the Print Serveer role, but I am remote and cannot confirm the exact setting.
    As for SMB, the error log is showing;
    Failed to connect to "smb://<username>:<password>@utlab-prsrv-02/"
So it would suggest that there is still an issue with the account detail you are using as you show you have tried this syntax at one stage. If you want to continue to create the queue using SMB rather than LPD then I recommend using the CUPS web page (http://127.0.01:631) to create the queue. This will allow you to enter the syntax exactly as the error message shows. From previous testing I found it was okay to just use the account name rather than domain/account name on a domain bound server.

  • HP Laserjet CP2025 Windows Server 2008 R2 Universal Printer Driver problem

Is there support for Windows Server 2008 R2 for the CP2025n printer,  I've been trying to get it to work with a standard TCP port with the universal driver but no luck.
    Any ideas?

I have Windows 2003 servers with the Universal PCL6 driver v5,4.  It printed slower then the previous version.  I manually changed the Device Settings, mainly the Monochrome / Color option.  This seemed to make the print process faster.

I have an office setup as follows:  Local office IP adress scheme 192.168.201.x.  There is a Konica Minolta BizHub 282 printer connected to the 192.168.201.x network as well as around 10 workstations running Windows 7.  There are also about
10 additional teleworkers WHO DO NOT NEED print access to the Minolta 282.  All of their data is on a cloud server.  I have them setup to first connect to the cloud server using a RRAS PPTP VPN and then to start an RDP session to the separate
RDP server.  The Konica Minolta works ??okay?? with the easy print services and until now, we have just dealt with the lack of features and the occasional print job that goes crazy and prints out 400 blank pages (btw, this is usually on Excel) or a job
that cuts off the margins even when you have it set to "fit to page" (this usually happens in Adobe.)  When I originally set this up, I tried loading the native Konica drivers on the server, but there was no joy because I couldn't get it to
work using the native drivers.  The problem at hand is a feature called "account track."  This feature authenticates your print job by using an account code.  If there is no code, the job just disappears.  When I load the native
Konica driver, the ability to turn on this feature is greyed out (see below):
When I use easy print, the codes seem to go through, but as I mentioned earlier, sometimes the print job just goes insane.  After researching this, it seems to me that there are two ways to overcome this if we can't turn off the account track feature:
    1) Overcome the driver problem. I've tried both of their current drivers without success: VXL and Visual Postscript. When I login to RDP, the (redirected) Konica 282 printer is listed, but when I try to print, it fails due to the missing account track code.
I'm hoping that there is a registry hack to turn this feature on by default with the code or a driver version that works with RDP. They have a WHQL driver available, but it didn't work any better. Is there a way to report this issue to the WHQL labs? Maybe
I can light a fire under Konica's rear end and motivate them to fix the driver.
    2) I saw one discussion where the guy installed the printer out in the clouds as a local printer. He seemed to have a site-to-site VPN, not a client-to-site VPN, so this worked.  Is there a way to do something similar when the customer connects to the
VPN through standard "connect to workplace" setup?  I tried pinging the Konica 282 from the server while logged into the VPN, but the printer could not be found.
    3) I considered setting it up as a google cloud print prnter, but that would require everyone to setup a google account and add a layer of complexity.
Anyone else run into this and have a solution?  If not, does anyone have any ideas on a solution or workaround?
    Thanks,
    Jeffery Smith

    Hi Jeffery,
    Thank you for your comment.
Yeah, you can use universal print driver by configuring Remote Desktop Easy print on RDS Server. Install the driver on RDS server. Now to configure Easy print you need to have minimum client RDP 6.1(But suggest you to install RDP 8.1), .Net Framework 3.5 or
    above and RDSH role.
Also under GPO setting need to check below settings.
Do not allow client print redirection: Disable
Use Terminal Service Easy print printer driver first: Enable
Computer Configuration > Administrative templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Printer redirection
For more information, you can refer below articles.

  • File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks on Windows server 2008

    Hi Expert,
I found that the properties of File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks service disabled after I install the windows server 2008 64bits. I tried to install that service via adding the file and printer sharing services in the properties of local area connection, but it doesn't contain any service in the popup box.  Also, no such service file available in the disk when I tried to install the service from installation disk of windows server 2008 64bits. Is the file "sacsrv.dll" corresponding to the service name of file and printer sharing? I found it is in the directory of "Windows\system32".  I have no idea about where is the problem? Do I miss some components? Please tell me what can I do for it? Thanks!
    Best Wishes,

Do any experts know the reason of this problem?  Thanks!

  • Windows Server 2008 and Crystal Reports 8.5 printing issue

I am having a problem when using the crystal reports 8.5 report viewer ocx (ActiveX) under Windows Server 2008.
When logging onto the server through remote desktop, a report can be shown on screen in preview. When this report is printed, and the user requests more than one copy, the printer only ever prints one copy. Is this a configuration of the terminal server, or simply that the ocx control doesn't cater for it?
I am using the Windows Server 2008 "Terminal services Easy Print" drivers on the terminal server.
    Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Hi Sastry
I can print multiple pages from notepad without any issues. It is only the print from the crystal OCX control that has the issue. It has it's own print dialog box.
    Thanks
    Peter
