Windows Server 2012 installation won't start

Hi,
I'm trying to install windows server 2012 which i downloaded from my MSDN subscription,
i'm installing it on HP 8100 Convertiable Mini-tower.
Windows loading files and then when the windows icon shows up it just restart the computer, and it enter an endless boot loop.

Hi,
In addition to Tim’s suggestions, we need to ensure that we have updated and digitally signed kernel-mode drivers for Windows Server 2012 for x-64 based operating system.

  • Windows server 2012 RDP Session - Default Start Menu Layout Downloaded Apps Not Displayed

    Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me to resolve a problem that's holding me back a little regarding the start menu for all users that connect to remote desktop sessions on Windows Server 2012.
I would like all users to have the same default application set upon login. Using a temporary user called 'Start Menu' I created the exact layout that I require all users to have. I installed the tile apps from the store with the 'Start Menu' user.
I then used the PowerShell command:
    PS C:\> Export-StartLayout -Path "C:\Layouts\Marketing.xml"-As XML
This then gave me the following XML file:

Using GPO I then applied this layout to all users. However when I login as any other users I only actually get the OneDrive app and none of the others.
Can someone please point me in the right direction. The store can not be run as administrator and the 'Start Menu' user had administrator rights when the apps were added from the store.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
You can check the GPO setting “pin Apps to Start when installed” which will pin the new program to start and other setting “Start Screen Layout” which will lets you specify the Start screen layout for users and prevents them from changing
its configuration. You can find this setting under below mention path.
    <Computer Configuration> | <User Configuration> \Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar
In addition please check beneath article.

  • New Windows Server 2012 install won't boot after installing Hyper-V role.

I have just installed Windows Server 2012 onto a Dell PowerEdge R310.  Everything worked okay until I installed the Hyper-V role.  After that, when it tries to boot, I get "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting
some error info, and then we'll restart for you. (0% complete)" for a split second, then the system reboots into Automatic Repair mode.
In Automatic Repair mode, my options are Refresh your system (which tells me the drive that Windows is on is locked), Reset your system (which tells me there is no partition), and Automatically Fix your PC (which tells me it can't fix it).
I have updated to the latest version of the BIOS (1.11.0, which Dell states adds Windows Server 2012 support).
I'm at a loss.. I've tried everything I can think of.  Has anyone run into this issue and figured out a solution?  The only references I can find to this issue talk about Gigabyte motherboards with USB 3.0, but this server pre-dates USB 3.0 by
    quite a bit.

    Hi,
Not only the BIOS but the iDRAC and storage part also need to ne up date check, have a look at the following list to see what you need for Server 2012:
    http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/os-applications/w/wiki/3868.dell-bios-support-for-windows-server-2012.aspx
If any info was collected during the error then have a look in the event viewer or look for a kernel/memory dump file so you can try to find the issue, in many cases a driver, anti-virus sofware or 3rd part service can cause these kind of issues.

  • Remote Desktop Configuration on Windows Server 2012 R2

Hi, I wanted to see if anyone knows how to access the console that was known before as Terminal Services Configuration.
I've been having trouble with some servers that have 2 or more NICs and sometimes the RDP protocol won't listen on the right IP and I can't connect until I disable the other NICs.
Usually in 2008 R2 I would just go on this console and define the specific IP Address in which the RDP Protocol should be listening to, but know I can't find this console anywhere on 2012 R2.
Any ideas on how I can get there or change this setting on Windows Server 2012 R2?
    Thanks
    Eduardo Rojas

    Hi,
Based on my research, please try the following on your Windows Server 2012 R2.
    1. Start Registry Editor.
    2. Navigate to the following registry key (path may wrap):
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    3. Under this key are one or more keys for the globally unique identifiers (GUIDs) corresponding to the installed LAN connections. Each of these GUID keys has a Connection subkey. Open each
of the GUID\Connection keys and look for the Name value. Choose the connection you want Terminal Services to use.
    4. When you have found the GUID\Connection key that contains the Name setting that matches the name of your LAN connection, write down or otherwise note the GUID value.
    5. Then navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\lanatable. Using the GUID you noted in step 5 select subkey. Note it's LanaId.
    6. Navigate to the following value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\LanAdapter. Change it's data to the value you noted in step 6. If you want RDP to listen on all LAN
    adapters enter value of 0.
Note: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you
modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, please refer to
How to back up and restore the registry in Windows.
    Hope this helps.

  • Windows Server 2012 OS Partition Size recommendations

i might be wrong but i have always tried to keep the size of the OS partition to match a common physical HDD size ie 125GB, taking into consideration the Windows update patches and apps versions update.

Greetings. This is my first post, so please be kind.
The Storage Admin at my new job has defined Windows Server 2012 installs to have a 40 GB OS Partition. To me, this seems extraordinarily small. I know MIcrosoft's minimum is 32 GB.
Most of the servers I will be deploying will not have the applications on the OS partition, but I believe the page file will be on the OS partition.
Since most of these servers will also have 8 GB or more of RAM, what would be a good recommended size for the OS Partition?
Also, if someone could link me to articles written by technology leaders talking about this issue, I would appreciate it.

  • Windows Server 2012 - Direct Access clients and the Windows 8 firewall

    Hi,
We're running a simple proof-of-concept for Server 2012 Direct Access, we have a single DA server behind a firewall using NAT. We have a number of client devices setup for DA and running Windows 8.
Our issue is that we can only get the Windows 8 direct access clients to connect (when outside the corporate network) and work with the windows firewall disabled (public network profile).
With the windows firewall disabled everything works exactly as expected. When outside the corporate network the client detects the network state (public network profile), connects via DA and all internal resources can be accessed successfully...fantastic.
Is there some specific guidance on manually configuring the windows 8 firewall for Direct Access ? We've tried the obvious TCP:443 with edge traversal enabled but without success.
Much of the information we have found relates to UAG rather than Windows 2012 DA.
    Any assistance is appreciated.

    Hi,
There isn’t any specific configuration on the firewall.
Just confirm that port 443 can be forwarded to DirectAccess server.
Of course, make sure you are using IPsec first.

  • Windows Server 2012 Standard - Remote Desktop Management service won't start

Dear colleges, I'm seeking your help in resolving a weird issue with Remote Desktop.
The Remote Desktop Management service gives the following error message any  time it is attempted to start:
"The Remote Management Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."
The Event Viewer error message is as follows:
"The Remote Desktop Management service failed to start. Error code: 0x88250001"
Whenever I connect to the server with RD I get error message that the Remote Desktop Licensing Server isn't configured and that the RD trill will expire in N-days. The server is up to date updates wise and has been licensed for 5 RD CALs. The server hosts DNS
server and has AD DS role installed, is virtualized to have one Hyper-V server.
I read some blogs about having both DNS and AD DS on one box is a bad sea and a root cause of the issue. Well, that very well may be, but for me that's an option as I'm not going to get a box to just host DNS. There should a solution to this as I shouldn't
only one suffering from this issue.
I also read about KB2871777 - Servicing stack update supposedly addressign this issue. Well, it's on my system and the issue is there too. :)
Will I loose ability to RD when the trial expires or it's just another misleading MS message that can be ignored?
How do I mend Remote Desktop Management service to start?
    Appreciate your help!

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server forum.
Can administrators perfectly connect to RDS environment?
In meantime please check that you have properly configured and activated RD License role service and install RDS CAL on it. It might also possible that you have configured RD License server but it server can’t find it and giving you error due to certificate
also. Please check that you have properly configured certificate on your RDS Server. Try to install and update below hotfix for License related issue.
No RDS license when you connect to an RDS farm in Windows Server 2012
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2916846
If you have configured both RDS and AD DS on single server then also you may find some error reading this. If so please try to setup both roles on different server and check the result. In addition to this, please check below articles.

  • Installation of F2480 scanner device in Windows Server 2012

    Hi,
i tried to install the drivers in Windows 2012 (x64).
That OS is not officially supported for this device but i thought the Windows 8 driver would do.
So i donwloaded the drivers (DJ_AIO_06_F2400_NonNet_Full_Win_WW_140_404.exe) but just running
this file won't work because the setup program checks for supported OSes and stops since it finds
    an unsupported OS.
So the way to go is to extract the contents of the .exe, plug in the device, go to Devices and Printers,
right click on the device and add the drivers manually from the Update Driver... button.
Doing so will install the drivers for printing but not for scanning, with a "File not found" error.
To enable scanning i first had to install the desktop experience feature of Windows Server.
I am not sure that this is needed, anyways i did it.
Then i realized that in the [SourceDisksNames.amd64] section of the hpoF2400_sc.inf files which resides
at the top folder of the extracted driver files the string of the path to the dot4 drivers was in double quotes but the
    one for the scanner wasn't.
    So the line:
    2 = %CD%,,,drivers\scanner
    became:
    2 = %CD%,,,"drivers\scanner"
After that change i re-run the drivers installation procedure but then Windows complained about
tampered driver files mentioning something about the hash of the files.
So i had to disable this check by running:
    bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
    bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON
A reboot was required after the above change and then the installation of the scanner drivers succeeded.
I used Paint and verified that scanning was indeed working.
Finally i re-enabled the OS check for tampered files:
    bcdedit -set loadoptions ENABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
    bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING OFF
The whole thing took 3 hours off my life, thanx HP :-P
    Cheers,

  • CRM 2015 installation hangs without errors on Windows Server 2012 installed in a VM

I have installed a Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 on a VM using VMware Player and then installed Dynamics CRM 2013, working out all the configuration problems.
The installation hanged once without errors and when I tried it again it was installed, no problems. Dynamics CRM 2013 works without issue.
Then I copied the machine, uninstalled the Dynamics CRM 2013 and started installing CRM 2015. However this time without errors the installation hangs even though I tried more than 5 times.
There are no errors, installation program is not unresponsive and task manager shows nothing out of the ordinary.
I have also tried this on multiple physical and virtual PCs to no avail.

  • Error while installing Microsoft Identity Extensions Setup during installation of SharePoint Foundation 2013 on Windows Server 2012

    Hi All,
When i try to manually (no internet connection on the server) install SharePoint 2013 Prerequisites on Windows Server 2012 I get the below error
I have installed .Net Framework 3.5, 4.0 and Windows Identity Foundation using Add server roles or features from the server manager.
From Software & Hardware requirements for SharePoint 2013 give
Prerequisites for SharePoint 2013 I can see that the identity extensions are available only of Windows Server 2008 R2 and not for windows server 2012. Can you please provide the link for windows server 2012?
I have installed all the prerequisites required except Microsoft Identity Extensions.

I fixed it by installing Microsoft Identity extensions from command line, please find command line below.
    C:\Windows\System32>msiexec.exe /i "C:\SharePoint2013ServerFiles\prerequisiteinstallerfiles\MicrosoftIdentityExtensions-64.msi" /quiet /norestart
Note: In the above command C:\SharePoint2013ServerFiles\prerequisiteinsTallerfiles is the path where I had downloaded all the prerequisites for SP2013
This will install Microsoft Identity Extensions and creates registry entries, which will help the SharePoint 2013 Prerequisite installer to complete the setup

  • On Windows Server 2012 R2 the "Show my desktop background on Start" is grayed out

    Hi
As shown below, the new 8.1/2012R2 function "Show my desktop background on Start" is not available on Windows Server 2012 R2.
    I have tried multiple solutions:
    - Activate OS (In Win 8.1 - the feature is unavailable when Win8.1 is not activated)
    - Install Desktop Experience
    - Playing with the registry key "Subkey: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Accent Entry:
    MotionAccentId_v1.00
But no luck. Does anyone have a solution.
The reason why I need this is, that I am building a Remote Desktop solution, and here we want to give users the same experience as from their desktops.
Looking forward to some exciting feedback.

  • On Windows Server 2012 R2 the option "Show my desktop background on Start" is disabled

    Since this thread is
inactive, I am starting a new one.
On windows server 2012 R2, under the taskbar properties, the option to display desktop background on start is disabled and I have not found a way to enable the same.
Please suggest, how this can be enabled.
    With regards

You should take a look at this thread. They still haven't figured it out yet though, I don't believe it is possible at the moment on server 2012 even with desktop experience installed.
