Windows server 2012 R2 DC (Hyper-V Guest OS) DNS error event id 4013 in log after installing KB2975719 and/or KB2995388

Hi,
I just freshly installed a guest OS Windows 2012R2 on a Hyper-V 2012R2 server. Installed lots of updates and did many reboots, after that I installed the AD component. Couple of days later I'm having trouble with a RemoteDesktop server joining the domain.
After some research I see in the DNS log the following message:
Type: Warning
User: N/A
Computer: Fileserver.domain.com
Source: DNS
Catagory: None
Event ID: 4013
The description for Event ID ( 4013 ) in Source ( DNS ) cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer, or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer,

I did a restore from an earlier point, recreated the ActiveDirectory, but messages still coming in DNS log. I started from scratch with installing a new guest OS Windows 2012R2, directly after loging in first time, I installed AD component, and
give  the server a reboot. and got the events below that looks normal:
Type: Warning
User: N/A
Computer: Fileserver.domain.com
Catagory: None
Event ID: 4013
The DNS server is waiting for Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) to signal that the initial synchronization of the directory has been completed. The DNS server service cannot start until the initial synchronization is complete because critical DNS
data might not yet be replicated onto this domain controller. If events in the AD DS event log indicate that there is a problem with DNS name resolution, consider adding the IP address of another DNS server for this domain to the DNS server list in the Internet
Protocol properties of this computer. This event will be logged every two minutes until AD DS has signaled that the initial synchronization has successfully completed.

The DNS server has finished the background loading and signing of zones. All zones are now available for DNS updates and zone transfers, as allowed by their individual zone configuration.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
After that I create snapshots after installing every (10-15 updates), reboot, check dns log, and almost the last update, the KB2975719 and/or
KB2995388 is giving the weird messages in the DNS log.

Any idea?
Kind regards,
Steven

Hi Steven,
Would you please tell us that is the event 4013 logged continuously?
If this event is only logged after reboot or restart DNS service, then it is a normal behavior.
As we can see Event 4, which indicates that the DNS zones have been loaded successfully.
In addition, if Event IDs 4523 and 4524 are being logged after the Event 4013, then there is no problem with DNS service.

    Hi All,
I just installed Failover Cluster for Hyper-V on windows server 2012 with 2 nodes. I got following error event id 1196.

    Hi,
    You may refer to this article to troubleshoot this issue;
Event ID 1196 — Network Name Resource Availability
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd354022(v=WS.10).aspx
    Check the following:
Check that on the DNS server, the record for the Network Name resource still exists. If the record was accidentally deleted, or was scavenged by the DNS server, create it again, or arrange to have a network administrator create it.
Ensure that a valid, accessible DNS server has been specified for the indicated network adapter or adapters in the cluster.
Check the system event log for Netlogon or DNS events that occurred near the time of the failover cluster event. Troubleshooting these events might solve the problem that prevented the clustered Network Name resource from registering the DNS name.

  • Server 2012 St R2 Hyper-V guest OS license Key?

    Hello!
Question, we have a new 2012 Standard R2 server, and are installing hyper-V on this.
Do i use the same server 2012 DVD and License key on the guest OS?
    Thank you in advance.
    Aksel

For the vOSE (that is 2 in a standard deployment) you would use the same key for those VM´s

  • Windows Server 2012 Essentials - Office 365 Integration Module Set Up Error

We receive an error when setting up the Office 365 Integration Module.  After we type in the admin credentials for Office 365, it attempts to configure, but then states it couldn't complete and try a reboot of the server.  We've rebooted multiple
times, but still face same error.  The users in Exchange Online get displayed after closing and reopening the Dashboard, but no other settings like subscription/domain information are pulled into the dashboard.  When we click in Users on the Dashboard
and attempt to assign an Office 365 account to an AD account, the Dashboard closes.  Any ideas on what's happening?  This Win 2012 Essentials has all Windows updates applied.
    Thanks,
    Dave

My Dashboard Issue was resolved (Susan Bradley Helped Generated A Support Ticket) when i asked the SharePoint Online support to revert my Primary's Site Language from Greek to English. I was one of the first to report this problem and i was working with
Server support for almost 2 months. You don't have the option to set the Language of your Primary site while you activate your Office 365 Subscription. It enables the Primary Language from your Location settings i believe.
Once My main SharePoint Master Site was revert to English (US) my Libraries synced OK with no Dashboard Crashing.....

  • DFS Replication doesn't work. Windows server 2012. Failed to communicate with partner. Error 5012.

Hi! I really confused with this error. I created replication group within two servers - AD domain controller and File server. I just want to migrate some files from AD domain controller to FS. But synchronization doesn't work. I get the error
    - DFS Replication cannot replicate with partner <server name> for replication group <domain>\<name space>\<share>. The partner did not recognize the connection or the replication group configuration. The DFS Replication service used
partner DNS name MyDCName, IP address <the server ip>, and WINS address <server name> but failed with error ID: 9026 (The connection is invalid). Event ID: 5012
It seems my DC doesn’t accept connection from FS. I checked network, permissions and other settings which are mentioned in this article.

  • WIndows Server 2012 w/ Hyper V and Windows 7

I have been able to create every imaginable virtualization in a test environment except for Windows 7. It asks for drivers. I have a driver CD but when I put the CD in the D: drive. It will run but suddenly the command line screen states that a file on
the F: drive does not exist. Where is this F: drive coming from?

I might have misstated my situation. I have Windows Server 2012 outfitted with Hyper-V. I'm trying to virtualize a Windows 7 operating system.
I found a another W7 media disk that seems to bypass this problem.

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 - Hyper-V NIC Teaming Issue

    Hi All,
I have cluster windows server 2012 R2 with hyper-v role installed. I have an issue with one of my windows 2012 R2 hyper-v host.
The virtual machine network adapter show status connected but it stop transmit data, so the vm that using that NIC cannot connect to external network.
The virtual machine network adapter using Teamed NIC, with this configuration:
    Teaming Mode : Switch Independent
Load Balance Algorithm : Hyper-V Port
NIC Adapter : Broadcom 5720 Quad Port 1Gbps
I already using the latest NIC driver from broadcom.
I found a little trick for this issue by disable one of the teamed NIC, but it will happen again.
Anyone have the same issue with me, and any workaround for this issue?
    Please Advise

  • Install Windows Server 2012 R2 VM on Storage Spaces with Storage Tiers

    Hey guys
In my small/medium sized company we will soon update to Windows Server 2012 R2. I would like to implement virtual servers using Hyper-V. I didn't find a lot of information about Hyper-V in combination with storages spaces and autoamted storage tiers.
And this is very confusing to me as it seems to me that this would be the best practice as it is the most cost-efficient and most elegant solution.
    My ideal scenario:
With Hyper-V I virtualize two Windows Server 2012 R2 instances. So two separate virtual machines.
I use the following disk setup:
    1x cheap HDD  40GB for hyper-v server 2012 r2 core.
    2x SSD 200GB (enterprise-grade)
    2x HDD 4TB (7.2k, enterprise-grade)
    Step 1:
I will install Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 Core on the 40GB HDD. Via command line, I will create a storage pool with automated tiered storage using the SSDs and the HDDs in mirrored mode the following way:
With Tiered Storage, I create a storage pool containing the SSDs and the HDDs. Then I create storage space A (1TB) and B (3.2TB) with the SSDs in a mirrored setup and the HDDs in a mirrored setup. The SSDs for the „hot files“ and the HDDs for the „cold files“.
    Step2:
Ontop of the storage space A I want to install the first Windows Server 2012 R2 instance with Active directory. On storage space B I want to install the second Windows Server 2012 R2 instance for a business application to run on it.
    Conclusion:
The SSDs are mirrored and therefore one SSD can fail.
The 4TB HDDs are mirrored and therefore one HDD can fail.
I have a fast and easy scalable environment.
But in the Internet I found many information that it’s not possible to install an operating system onto a storage tier.
    Question 1:
    Is this setup possible?
    Question 2:
If this setup is possible, why is not everyone doing it?
    Question 3:
Is it possible to do Step 1 over a GUI from a remote machine?
    Question 4:
If the creation of Storage Tiers in the Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 is not possible. Would it work to use a Windows Server 2012 R2 as a parent system on the 40GB HDD? To do Step 1?
I would gladly get some feedback of people knowing Storage Tiers well.
    Thanks a lot!

I would absolutely prefer a GUI. But a Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Licence allows you to run two VM machines.
It also grants you a physical installation ("POSE" in the licensing documents). You can buy one copy of WS2012R2 Standard, install it on the hardware, enable Hyper-V, and then operate two virtual machines with WS2012R2 Standard ("VOSE"
in the licensing documents). The only restriction is that the management operating system (POSE) can only run services and applications meant to manage the virtual machines and/or the management operating system. The Hyper-V Server license is the same way
so it's not really any different.
In short, given the benefits of the GUI at your stage of learning, you have no solid reason not to install the full system and take advantage of it. You can disable the GUI later once you get your footing. Or not. Whatever suits you. However, in response
to your Question 3, you can do this all remotely. Once you get WS2012R2 installed in a guest, you can use it to manage the management operating system if you want. There are many options.
But then I would also need to have redundancy on the 40GB HDD as if this HDD brakes, all others brake as well?
Yes, you're going to want some redundancy for the management operating system. But, you've listed 5 drives in your original layout. You don't really have a 5-bay system, do you? Is there an empty sixth bay? Could you not get two 40 GB drives instead of one
    and use hardware RAID-1?

  • Windows Server 2012 Windows Backup failed with following error code '0x8078006B' (Windows Backup failed to create the shared protection point on the source volumes.).

The Volume Shadow Copy service initially was running under the context of System, so we thought that ‘System’ doesn’t have permissions to access network shares.
When the Volume Shadow Copy service was running under the context of System, this was the error logged:
“failed with following error code '0x8078014B' (There was a failure in creating a directory on the backup storage location.).”
Which is likely due to not having permissions to write to the network location.
This is a scheduled backup trying to write to a network location, so we changes the service to run under the context of an account that does have permissions to write to the network share.
Then the error changed to this:
“failed with following error code '0x8078006B' (Windows Backup failed to create the shared protection point on the source volumes.).”

We aren’t really seeing anything that gives any hint on what the issue is.
    Any ideas?  Thanks in advance!

We are trying to back up folders/files from 2 local drives (C: & D:), both of which have only 10% space used, and 100 GB free.
We are attempting to back the files up to a Remote Shared File (and there is 100+ GB free space out there).
If we try another network location, we receive the exact same error.
This is Windows Server 2012, not running Hyper-V and is a physical server not a VM.

  • Installing Windows Server 2012 in Order to Use SharePoint Server and Develop in VS2012

    Hi.
I need to install SharePoint Server so that I can work with SP Designer and have full options for development using VS2012.  Apparently, I also need to Install Windows Server 2012.  I would like to install and configure WS2012 in a virtual environment
using the Hyper-V tools that come with Windows 8 Pro.  I'm a newbie when it comes to WS2012, and want to make sure I don't end up reformatting my Windows 8 hard drive or causing a similar event that would put me in a rubber room.
I downloaded the WS2012 image file, but am unsure how to proceed.  Can anyone give me some help as to how to get started?
    Thanks.
    Bugless

    Hi,
If you have enabled the Hyper-V role on Windows 8 then you can create Windows Server 2012 VM's.  As Server 2012 has the Hyper-V tools build in by default there is no need to install them.
So enable the Hyper-V role on Windows, Create a new VM in Hyper-V management console and connect the cd/dvd drive in the VM properties to the Windows Server 2012 setup ISO file. Start the VM and the Server 2012 setup. (during creating a VM you can also
connect the cd/dvd drive to an ISO file)
You might want to give to the Server 2012 VM 2 vCPU's and 2GB+ memory for performance. Also have a look the memory specs for VS2012 to see how much memory you should give to the VM.

  • SharePoint server 2013 Search Service App on Windows server 2012 R2 not working

    Hi all,
I installed SharePoint server 2013 on Windows  server 2012 R2 using VirtualBox.  I created a DC(domain controller) server with a domain set up on one VM and it has SQL server 2012 SP1 installed. Then SharePoint 2013 on another VM
was set up to access the DC server.  Everything seems working except Search Service App which cannot be sucessfully set up. Creation process for Search service app says Successful and 4 search databases were created and look fine. But when I navigate
to search service app admin page, it gives error info:
System status:  The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component '386f2cd6-47ca-4b3a-aeb5-d9116772ef16' in search application 'Search Service Application 1' is
in a good state and try again.
Search Application Topology:  Unable to retrieve topology component health states. This may be because the admin component is not up and running.
From event viewer, I see following errors:

Since separate DC server and SharePoint server do not work, I installed SharePoint 2013 on DC server ( so DC server has everything on it now ) but it gives exactly same result. Later I installed SharePoint 2013 SP1 and still have the same problem
with Search Service app. I spent two weeks tried all suggestions available from Web and Google but SharePoint Search Service simply does not work. Config and other databases work but why Search Service has this issue seemingly related to search DB.
Could anybody please help out? You deserve a top SharePoint consultant award if you could find a solution. I am so frustrated and so tired by this issue.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that  SharePoint server 2013 Search Service App did not work on Windows server 2012 R2.
Please make sure you configure Search Service Application correctly. You can refer to:Create and configure a Search service application in SharePoint Server 2013
I recommend to created new Search Service Application, and made a full crawl. Then assigned the new SSA as the default SSA for webapplications. Finnlay checked  the issue doesnt occur now,
If all search related components now are online, to keep the enviroonment clean, you can delete the old SSA.
    Thank you for your understanding.

  • High availability SQL Server requirements for Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 2012

    Good night,
Thanks for reading this question, I do not write much English.
I am implementing Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 2012, I need to know the size of the database to create and feature on the .mdf and .ldf, I searched in different microsoft link but I have not received a response.
Kindly appreciate your cooperation and attention.

    Hi Alejandro,
I am implementing Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 2012, I need to know the size of the database to create and feature on the .mdf and .ldf
If you want to know the size requirements of .mdf abd .ldf files, since they are parts of SQL database, I suggest you refer to SQL forums below to get more professional support:

  • Join to Windows Server 2012 Active Directory.

How to I join Windows Server 2012 Active Diretory without putting manually Windows Server 2012:s ip adress at ?referred DNS server? Can someone help me?

I'm not sure what you are asking here.  Are you asking how to join another server to a Active Directory domain without having to enter IP information into that other server?  If so, the server joining has to have an IP address and it has to have
a DNS entry that knows about the Active Directory domain.  Therefore, there are two ways to accomplish this.  First is to assign a fixed IP address and DNS address to the server you are trying to join to the domain.  The second is to have a
DHCP server in the environment that will assign the IP and DNS.  Alternatively on the second option is to have DHCP assign the IP address and then you manually specify the DNS that knows about the Active Directory domain being joined.
No matter how you do it, it has to have a valid IP address and DNS entry that knows the location of the AD domain.

  • Cluster Quorum Disk failing inside Guest cluster VMs in Hyper-V Cluster using Virtual Disk Sharing Windows Server 2012 R2

Hi, I'm having a problem in a VM Guest cluster using Windows Server 2012 R2 and virtual disk sharing enabled.
It's a SQL 2012 cluster, which has around 10 vhdx disks shared this way. all the VHDX files are inside LUNs on a SAN. These LUNs are presented to all clustered members of the Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V cluster, via Cluster Shared Volumes.
Yesterday happened a very strange problem, both the Quorum Disk and the DTC disks got the information completetly erased. The vhdx disks themselves where there, but the info inside was gone.
The SQL admin had to recreated both disks, but now we don't know if this issue was related to the virtualization platform or another event inside the cluster itself.
Right now I'm seen this errors on one of the VM Guest:

We don't know if this can happen again, what if this happens on disk with data?! We don't know if this is related to the virtual disk sharing technology or anything related to virtualization, but I'm asking here to find out if it is a possibility.
    Any ideas are appreciated.
    Thanks.
