Windows Server Technical Preview - RDS - RemoteFX 3D

Hi Windows Server Team,
I am having an issue with the Windows Server Tech Preview and Remotefx 3D. I installed the RDS role and have it all configured with no problems. I loaded a VM of Windows 10 Enterprise Tech Preview. It works fine, however when I activate the RemoteFX 3D on
that virtual machine. It then just shows a black screen in my Hyper-V Manager and just stays hung on the black screen. I have been working with RDS and RemoteFX 3D since the Windows 2008 R2 days and have never had this problem at all. When I try to Shut down
the VM it stays hung when I try to Turn Off the VM it stays hung. I am forced to reboot the server and when it comes back up it still just shows a Black screen for the Windows 10 Enterprise VM with RemoteFX 3D turned on. I really wanted and was interested
in testing the new OpenGL features and other ehancements that have been mentioned with this version of RDS and remotefx 3d. I also noticed that Gen 2 VM's now also support the RemoteFX 3D features and even tried to create a Windows 10 Enterprise as a
Gen 2 VM but I have the same problem. My server is a Dell PowerEdge R720. Thanks and I look forward to your reply and can hopefully get this working.
Regards,
Robi Rodriguez

Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Initially we need to check whether the device is supported for latest version of features available. To use new feature available with Windows Serer Technical Preview we need to see that device supports the latest available OS. Please go through
this article for information. You can contact Dell for further information whether it
still have any updates for Windows Server Technical Preview.
Hope it helps!

  • VGPU with Nvidia GRID and Hyper-V in a future Version of Windows Server Technical Preview possible?

    Hi Windows-Server Team!
We've got 8 XenServers with NVidia GRID K2 cards in it and using it for our Citrix XenApp/XenDesktops Farms.
Works very good. But we want to do it with Hyper-V.
Is there a plan to do vGPU like XenServer with Hyper-V too?
    Thanks

    Hi Thomas,
Windows Server Technical Preview adds support for OpenGL 1-4.4 and OpenCL 1.1.  You will need Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview for the guest VM and Server Technical Preview with Hyper-V installed on the physical host.

  • PC Settings application in Windows Server Technical Preview

The PC Settings app in Windows Server Technical Preview would not start with a message "Immersive control panel did not start". Does anybody else have a similar problem and what might be the cause of it?
    Vladimir Shipitsyn

I accidentally checked the PC settings app today and surprisingly found it perfectly working. I do not know what caused it to start working since Microsoft did not offer any updates for Windows Server TP in February (maybe it was a matter of an
earlier update?), however, I was able to set the account picture and the lock screen as well as some other settings. I did not find there though any provision for build updates like in Windows 10 TP, only regular Windows Update menu.
    Vladimir Shipitsyn
    Hello,
where did you see PC Settings? On my Test machine it is removed complete from the Start Menu and also when using WINDOWS+C where it was possible at the beginning.

  • Notification of expiration of Windows Server Technical Preview

Today the system gave me notification that the current build would expire on April 15, 2015 and that the computer would start restarting then. Will there be issued an update to the current Windows Server Technical Preview build by then or should the system
just be deleted at its expiration date?
    Vladimir Shipitsyn

    Hi,
    Thanks for your post.
The reality is that we haven’t had a new build since the original.
Maybe an update will be released at some point in the near future that extends the lifespan of the current build (at least the lifespan without shutting down every few hours) beyond 15 April.
I think we could focus on the MS website if there is any updates.

  • Release Date for Windows Server Technical Preview

    Hi,
Could someone please tell me which year at least the new Windows Server will be out in? This is so I can plan to update stuff as and when needed.
    Kind Regards,
    Sean

Windows Server VNext will probably GA in the second 2016 quarter (May, June) but Microsoft did not mention any of that. Aidan Finn thinks that it will be in May too
    HERE
Maybe in the Microsoft Ignite at Chicago, we will be updated with same dates (4-8 May 2016)

  • Windows Server Technical Preview Done Right

Thank You, thank you, thank you, thank you!  This is how Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 should have been from the start.

The different reactions are interesting on this.  I pretty much stopped using the Start menu when Vista and 2008 came out.  Yes, I would click the button (or pearl) but then I would immediately start typing and the system would find what I was
looking for a heck of a lot faster than I could trying to navigate the menu.  So when Windows 8/Windows Server 2012 came along, I never even missed it.  Got used to hitting the Windows key and typing what I'm looking for.  That way I can keep
    my hands on the keyboard.
But, variety is the spice of life.  Whatever makes you happy, happy, happy.
    . : | : . : | : . tim
Well, now it allows it to be done both ways and it doesn't bounce you out of the desktop for the search.
I found it convenient to have frequently used items pinned to the Start Menu and Task Bar, but if it was a less-used item that was buried levels deep in hierarchy of the Start Menu, I would use the search field in the Start Menu.
Searching was rarely needed because I didn't use that many different apps.

  • Test DNS Policies Windows Server Technical Preview

    Hello everybody,
I would like to know if anyone tested the new feature of DNS Server: Policies
I installed the DNS Role but not see nothing about the Policies on the GUI.
    Thanks in advance.
Robson Hasselhoff - Follow me @Robk9e

    Hi,
I've created a simple policy that denies DNS queries from a client subnet for a specific domain.
I created the domain 'denied.com' and another domain 'permitted.com' and then set up a policy to deny queries from client subnet 192.168.0.0/24 for denied.com. No policy is configured for permitted.com so by default the client can query this domain. The
results are below, querying from a client that is on the restricted subnet (the client address is 192.168.0.1).
First, I show that I can query the permitted domain:
    PS C:\> resolve-dnsname www.permitted.com
    Name
    Type   TTL   Section    IPAddress
    www.permitted.com                              A
    3600  Answer     192.168.0.2
Next, the restricted domain is queried, and the server replies with a failure:
    PS C:\> resolve-dnsname www.denied.com
    resolve-dnsname : www.denied.com : DNS server failure
    At line:1 char:1
    + resolve-dnsname www.denied.com -server 192.168.0.4
    + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        + CategoryInfo          : ResourceUnavailable: (www.denied.com:String) [Resolve-DnsName], Win32Exception
        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : RCODE_SERVER_FAILURE,Microsoft.DnsClient.Commands.ResolveDnsName
This is obviously a very simple demonstration, but it works well. The policy is created with registry settings under:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DNS Server\Zones
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DNS Server\ClientSubnets
I would rather not share the details of the registry settings here because it is not advisable to configure policies directly in the registry. The Windows PowerShell cmdlets to configure policies will be available soon. If you'd like to contact me and discuss
the settings more, please email me at greg dot Lindsay at Microsoft dot com.
    Thanks,
    -Greg

  • Up to how many CPU sockets are supported by the Windows Server Technical Preview?

I hope that all of a server's physical sockets are detected so that every core is usable by the operating system.

I have the idea of no of users will be working on
    them will be around 100
How will I decide Server with How many CPU do I

and how much the amount fo physical memory should I

Which are the factore affecting them and how will I
    decide on them?
Is there any note given by oracle?Sounds like you need to start at the beginning with some of
Tom Kyte's books, the Oracle documentation &c.
You must have some idea of the throughput of your system.
If you are going to be using tons of I/O, then CPU might be
irrelevant, but you'd damn sure want the disk (array)(s) to
    be up to scratch,
    on the other hand,
if you are going to be doing lots of calculating/processing, then
    your CPU might be critical.
It's a question only you can really answer.
Post a more detailled spec here, along with a budget*

    Paul...
    * budget is normally very very important also...
We could tell you to buy two (one backup) HP-UX boxes
with 16-way SMP capacity and a 10TB 100 disk SAN, with,
oh, say, 10 disk controllers, but that's
not much use if your budget is... ahem... constrained.

  • Windows Server Technical Preview (Multipoint feature request)

    Hi
On Multipoint Server 2011/2012, I created a way to have the server serve via PXE boot a WinPE image that RDP's back to the Multipoint server. This basically allowed me to provide a Win7/8 desktop environment on just about any existing workstation that I
encountered (old Panasonic Toughbooks to the clamshell Dell GX280's). The Multipoint server resides on a VM and is able to manage the hypervisor. This setup has proven to be great at providing a consistent working environment to access virtual labs for students
    with limited hardware.
I am glad to see that Multipoint Server isn't totally abandoned, and I like how it is now a role rather than a standalone OS.
Please feel free to check it out, use and modify it for whatever purpose you see fit:

Can you try enabling secure boot and running the following PowerShell cmd:
Set-VMFirmware -VMName "Name of your VM" –SecureBootTemplate MicrosoftWindows
And let me know if that works?

  • Plextor M.2 512gb ssd works on windows 7 but not on windows 10 Technical Preview

i have found that when you try to install windows 10 on a Plextor M.2 512gb ssd the operating system locks up completely after a random amount of time usually within 10 minutes of booting it. the only way to reboot is to unplug or flip the switch
on the power supply. i have tested this also on windows 7 and it works perfect as far as i can tell. i have tried tweaking the UEFI settings and nothing fixes this. any thing i could be missing?

    Hi TripleXGaming,

If you're running 9926 then you're not installing the correct version. If
you expand the Details section you'll see that version was published last
October. You'll need this one, which was published in at the end of

  • About the error: "The account is not authorized to login from this station" when you access NAS devices from Windows 10 Technical Preview (build 9926)

    Scenario:
With the release of Windows 10 Technical Preview (build 9926), some users may encounter an error message of “The account is not authorized to login from this station” when trying to access remote files saved in NAS storage. In
addition, the following error log may also be found via Event Viewer:
    Rejected an insecure guest logon.
This event indicates that the server attempted to log the user on as an unauthenticated guest but was denied by the client. Guest logons do not support standard security features such as signing and encryption. As a result,
guest logons are vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attacks that can expose sensitive data on the network. Windows disables insecure guest logons by default. Microsoft does not recommend enabling insecure guest logons.
    Background:
The error message is due to a change we made in Windows 10 Technical Preview (build 9926) which is related to security and remote file access that may affect you.
Previously, remote file access includes a way of connecting to a file server without a username and password, which was termed as “guest access”.
With guest access authentication, the user does not need to send a user name or password.
The security change is intended to address a weakness when using guest access.  While the server may be fine not distinguishing among clients for files (and, you can imagine in the home scenario that it doesn’t
matter to you which of your family members is looking at the shared folder of pictures from your last vacation), this can actually put you at risk elsewhere.  Without an account and password, the client doesn’t end up with a secure connection to the server.
A malicious server can put itself in the middle (also known as the Man-In-The-Middle attack), and trick the client into sending files or accepting malicious data.  This is not necessarily a big concern in your home, but can be an issue when you take your
laptop to your local coffee shop and someone there is lurking, ready to compromise your automatic connections to a server that you can’t verify.  Or when your child goes back to the dorm at the university. The change we made removes the ability to connect
to NAS devices with guest access, but the error message which is shown in build 9926 does not clearly explain what happened. We are working on a better experience for the final product which will help people who are in this situation.
As a Windows Insider you’re seeing our work in progress; we’re sorry for any inconvenience it may have caused.
    Suggestion:
You may see some workarounds (eg. making a registry change restores your ability to connect with guest access).
We do NOT recommend making that change as it leaves you vulnerable to the kinds of attacks this change was meant to protect you from.
The recommended solution is to add an explicit account and password on your NAS device, and use that for the connections.  It is a one-time inconvenience,
but the long term benefits are worthwhile.  If you are having trouble configuring your system, send us your feedback via the Feedback App and post your information here so we can document additional affected scenarios.
