Windows service pack three conflict with indesign

I have hundreds, if not thousands, of Pagemaker 7 client files. My Windows machine was recently upgraded to Service Pack 3 and it will not let me open Pagemaker files into Indesign CS3 and convert. jApparently, there was no problem with Service Pack 2.
Help! There must be a patch. I also got new laptop today with Windows 7 hoping I might be able to open them but now discovered that I can't use a single pne of my Adobe products on it because they are not CS4 Versions.
Anybody know a fix so I can get all PM7 files converted?

You do not have CS3. You have version 3 which is CS.
This may well be your last chance to upgrade and I suggest you take it. If the current policy remains in effect when CS5 is released you will not be eligible for upgrade pricing.
You can read more about the PM problem here:

  • Airport extreme with windows service pack 2

I have just recently bought a macbook pro laptop, & have been corresponding with a forum member about a wireless setup.
I want to have a wireless set up with a PC desktop with windows xp home service pack 2 that is stationed in the kitchen. This was recommended to me in this forum. Right now the PC has an Ethernet black box, with at&t DSL service. It has one yellow Ethernet cable coming from the black box to the PC & one grey DSL cord coming out of the black box & connects to a phone in the kitchen. I bought the laptop for my online classes so steady reliable internet service is crucial. Upon reading the specs of the airport extreme however got me a little concerned about which service pack I can use.
    Here is my question & comment from another member on this forum;
I just noticed a PC has to have windows service pack 3, I have service pack 2, will it work with service pack 2? I am reluctant to update to service pack 3, my story behind my reluctance; the last time I did it, my PC completely crashed, the hard drive died. It had to be replaced, & ever since I get a little yellow alert to update to service pack 3, but I have not done it out of fear of another meltdown. Right now it is the only computer in our house, & I need it for my online classes. Last summer when I tried the service pack 3 update, & subsequent PC meltdown, I had to go to a public computer lab to finish off an online class, so I do not want to go through this again.
    And this is what they said;
+That will give you wired internet access at the PC. Of course, the MacBook Pro will be wireless. I am not sure about the technical specifications required for the Airport. My initial reaction is that you should be fine to use the Airport as just a router with the PC with Service Pack 2. I think SP3 is just required for administration of the Airport using the Airport Utility for Windows. But, you could administer the Airport with your MBP. You may want to confirm this in the Airport forum unless somebody else here knows for sure! Sorry!+

Which would be more powerful & reliable? the newest airport extreme or the aiport with the 500GB time capsule?
Again, it will depend on what your networking requirements are. If we are talking about support for Time Machine backups, then only the Time Capsule (of the two options you listed) would work. Apple doesn't currently support these backups to drives attached to the AirPort Extreme Base Station.
Would I be better off with something that is just for wireless internet? or a combo unit time capsule & airport?
If you don't have any networking gear now, then it may make better sense to go with a combination unit.

  • Can't  upgrade I tunes because of problems with Windows Service Pack 2

My daughter and I got shuffles for Christmas. I am unable to upgrade to the necessary version of I tunes because I do not have SP2. When I try to download the windows service pack 2 my computer crashes. Any suggestions? Are there any ways around this?

    Hi there
It could be that this particular file has some corruption. It could also simply be that the number of objects in the file is somewhat taxing your PC resources.
You might try what is outlined in the link below and see if it helps anything.

  • ISE Posture Condition for Windows Service Pack and Remediation

    Hi,
We having ISE ver 1.1.1 and currently on PoC. I have the following points to be clarified for Posture and Remediation.
    1) How to configure a condition to check Windows Service pack (may be more than 1 Windows favor such as XP, Win 7 and Win 8) and how to remediate in case client is not complying with Windows requirement.
    2) I configure AV condition and looks its working fine, however I still couldnt find the place to how to remediate in case client is not having proper verion and AV definition on his PC.
    3) We have a Authorization profile configured with dACL"Posture Remediation" where we allowing AV server update url and also matching ACL configured on switch "Posture Redirect", wants to know the exact purpose on these two ACLs.
    4) where can we see the logs of none-complaints logs and find out the reason for non-complaints
appreciate if someone can please give us a proper document to achive the above task or send me any working senario configuration steps.
    thanks in advance.

    1. Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)  remediation remediates Windows clients from a locally managed WSUS server, or  Microsoft-managed WSUS server with the latest Windows service packs, hotfixes,  and patches (WSUS updates) for compliance. You can create a WSUS remediation  where a NAC Agent integrates with the local WSUS Agent to check whether the  endpoint is up-to-date for WSUS updates. You can also duplicate, edit or delete  WSUS remediations from the remediations list.
You can configure Windows clients to  receive the latest WSUS updates from a Microsoft-managed WSUS server, or locally  administered WSUS server for compliance.
The Windows server update services (WSUS)  remediations list page displays all the WSUS remediations along with their  names, description, and as well as their modes of  remediation

  • ITunes stopped working after Windows Service Pack 2

Maybe it's a coincidence, but I've been having all sorts of problems loading the latest iTunes version (64-bit) ever since I downloaded (not by choice) WIndows Service Pack 2.
    iTunes just won't open.
First it would open and say that the color scheme had been changed by some setting somewhere.
Then it wouldn't open at all.
I've fooled around with permissions and compatibility settings -- I've reinstalled the latest iTunes for WIndows 64-bit -- and iTunes just will not load.
I've seen some evidence online that I'm not alone in this problem, though it's hard to tell.  The solutions I've seen seem to be a bit complicated -- does anyone have any information on this problem or am I going to have to go back to an Apple computer if I want to continue using iTunes???
    Thanks for any help.
    B
PS For now I've got to leave on a 4 -hour trip for which I'll have no music thanks to this problem -- so any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Roll back the service pack.(uninstall software through control panel.)  Does it work again?
Reinstall service pack.  Make sure antivirus and all other software is not running in background.  Reboot.

  • Unable To Install Windows Service Pack 3

    Hi,
I just reinstalled windows xp (32bit)for the 3 time in as many months, and I've ran into a problem with the reinstallion Windows Service Pack 3. I keep getting an error that says something to the effect of 'file x can not be found. are you sure (windows dl location) is correct. would you like to retry.' and this repeats a few times until I lose my patience and give up. Anyone know how to fix this?
    Cheers
    Alex

    Hi Alex,
maybe this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3841 can help you.
Also if you have any kind of 'unneccessary' external devices connected while trying to update, like external harddisks, printer, scanner, etc., disconnect them before applying the update.
    Hope it helps

  • Getting Windows Service Pack

Is there a way to programmatically get the service pack for the operating system?
I know System.getProperty("os.version") will give me the operating system version, but I don't see a property that holds the service pack. It looks like I may only be able to get the service pack by creating a DLL with a function that gets the Service Pack and then call out to that DLL from Java. Is that correct? Thanks.

You can retrieve Windows Service Pack using System.getProperty ("sun.os.patch.level"). In my Windows 2003 SP 1 and JDK 5.0:
    os.name = "Windows 2003"
    sun.os.patch.level = "Service Pack 1"

    Hi Edward,
in the Master Guides on http://service.sap.com/erp-inst, we recommend that you check the Add-On compatibity prior to installing the enhancement package. For Add-Ons you might need for instance separate "Conflict Resolutions", and should make sure that these are available. You contact the owner of this Add-On to find out more.
If this topic is solved for an Add-On, but the issue still persists, it might be a support topic.
(An Add-On in this sense is anything which you install in addition to the Standard SAP ERP. As the enhancement packages alter SAP ERP, the add-on might need to react. For SAP Add-Ons, this is done with conflict resolution transports)

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003. Move from SP1 to Windows Service Pack 2?

    Hello,
    Our hosting system is:
    Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Server 5.2 Service Pack 1 (32-bit)
    or
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Server 5.2 Service Pack 1 (32-bit)
on which we have a Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.3.0
    running.
Now our IT is demanding the Windows Service Pack 2 to be installed on the server.
Are there known issues or can this be done (about 30 patches) without any considerations?
    Thanks,
    Marco

    Oracle's general policy is:
Oracle certifies against the specific Microsoft operating system (OS) and, if applicable, service packs (SPs) stated in the Oracle product documentation. Oracle will support the use of our products on any later SP or OS security patch as soon as that SP or patch becomes generally available. Depending upon the severity, quantity, and impact of the SP or patch-related issues found, Oracle may recommend that customers wait until relevant Oracle patches have been released before upgrading to a particular SP or OS patch. Oracle may recommend or discourage the installation of specific SPs or patches if it will significantly affect the operation of Oracle software, either positively or negatively. If such a statement is deemed necessary, then Oracle Development will disseminate this statement in as timely a fashion as possible after the release of the SP or patch.
There are no known issues with ServicePack 2.

  • Breaking change in MDAC ADODB COM components in Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (repost with MSDN liveID)

As my MSDN subscription is connected to this liveID, I repost my question in the hope to get a faster answer:
After I installed Service Pack 1 on my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate my applications which use MDAC 2.8 COM components for database access do not work on other Windows versions any more.
I hunted this down to changed Interface IDs in the msadoxx.tlb files. On Windows 2008 R2 e.g. the IID of dispinterface _Connection is {00000550-0000-0010-8000-00AA006D2EA4} (defined in msdado28.tlb). When I lookup the same dispinterface on my Windows 7 with
SP1 (RTM from MSDN) I see this IID {00001550-0000-0010-8000-00AA006D2EA4}.
That means that all code produced on Windows 7 SP1 using ADODB cannot be run on any other version of Windows as the IIDs differ.
The CLSIDs still match, so the COM objects get created but due to different IIDs they cannot be used.
I really hope I am missing something as this change seems to be a massively breaking change in the MDAC API.
To verify the error you can use code like this in VB6 or equivalent in VB.Net or C# and compile it on Win7 SP1 and run it on Win7 RTM or older versions of Windows:
    Dim cn As ADODB.Connection
    Dim o As Object
    Set o = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") ' this does still work
Set cn = o ' this errors when compiled on Win 7 SP1 and run on older versions of Windows due to the changed IID of the dispinterface _Connection
    Regards,
    SvenC

    Ok NEW Fix:
    ===================================================================
    ---- / start: getting around Trusted Installer / ----
    STEP 1) Change owner of
"%CommonProgramFiles(x86)%\system\ado\msado28.tlb" to administrator or whatever your current local user is...
    Then close all security windows.
You might have to change this registry setting in order to change the owner:
(although I'm not sure, I did though.)
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\TypeLib\{2A75196C-D9EB-4129-B803-931327F72D5C}
Right click, Permissions, Advanced, Owner, Change owner to Administrators, Click OK, OK
STEP 2) Back in the file properties, under Security, Change Permissions to Full Control for your new owner.
    ---- / end: getting around Trusted Installer / ----
    STEP 3)
    Unregister it:
    Run C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\regtlibv12 -u "CommonProgramFiles(x86)%\system\ado\msado28.tlb"
STEP 4) Copy in legacy msado28.tlb file (get this from a non SP1 Windows 7 Machine), i.e. overwrite the last one.
STEP 5) Re-register the new one:
    Run C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\regtlibv12 "CommonProgramFiles(x86)%\system\ado\msado28.tlb"
** Now VB6 compiles from a Windows 7 SPK1 machine that reference MDAC 2.8 should work now automatically without changing anything in the project file or references
Is there somewhere I can download the legacy msado28.tlb file since I have the only W7 machine in the organization?

    I am using

now with Windows 7, Service Pack 1.  They are working on the problem.  Has this been addressed on the forum yet?  I'm sorry, but I couldn't find it if it has.  Anyone else having this problem.  It's really put me in a bind.  How are we to know when the issue has been addressed?

  • Get Windows "Service Pack Nr"

I use Windows NT SP5. (SP = Service Pack)
How can I get the information SP5.
    with System.getProperty( )
I get os.name and os.version but not the SP.
    I know it's OS specific.
But is there any class / commands which gets this value "SP5".
IF not, is it possible to get this value from the registry
If yes, how can I read the registry file to get it :(
    thanks for any help
    Aykut

The Windows registry is a normal file so you could
just search for "SP5" and if it's not
found you know the user doesn't have your service pack.
(Suggesting that this is really saved there)
