Windows service question (automatic start?)

Is there a setting in OSX server that tells the box to start a specific service automatically if the machine is rebooted, specifically Windows service? When we reboot, Windows service does not start automatically.
Thanks!

/System/Library/StartupItems/Samba/Samba is a startup script that starts SAMBA, which provides the Windows file sharing. The script checks the entry in /etc/hostconfig for SMBSERVER to say yes, and if it does starts the daemons (smbd and nmbd).

  • Windows service doesn't start at boot

    When our Xserve starts up, the Windows service does not start.
    I've got SMBSERVER=-YES- in /etc/hostconfig.
    Once the xserve is running, clicking on the Start Service button for Windows in Server Admin starts the service with no problems. Once it's running, it's fine. The server has no other problems that I'm aware of.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Windows Service does not start automatically

    Hi
    I have a .NET 4.5 C# windows service, StartType set to automatic. It is running fine in server.
    Few days ago, my server has windows update, including security update for .NET framework 4.5.1. Server auto restarted.
    However, my service is not started.
    By referring to eventlog, it shown as below sequence
    1. Explorer initiated restart - Shutdown type - restart
    2. Sql Server Service is stopped successully
    3. My Service is stopped successully
    -- Server restarted
    4. Sql Server Service is in running state
    5. My Service is stopped successully
    Question is, why my service is stopped instead of running/started? I checked event log and my app log, no error at all.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

    I was thinking to set "SQL Server", but I am not sure what is the service name for the SQL service name.
    Anyway to specify like "SQL Server *" ?
    thank you
    The default instance service name is MSSQLSERVER, and MSSQL$[name] for a named instance. If you're not sure what the instance is, you could check the services.msc or the registry value in this registry hive:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\InstalledInstances

  • After Upgrade, Windows Service will not start automaticly

    I just upgraded from 10.2 to 10.4. When I did the Windows File Service, will not start automaticly. I can start it manually, after a reboot. Any idea on how to fix this?

    I am having the same problem on a clean install of Server 10.4.10, AFP & Web starts automatically on restart, but not Windows Service. This is the first time I have run into this, it starts fine on all other servers I administer. Then entry in /etc/hostconfig for SMBSERVER is set to "-YES-", there is no errors or messages of any kind in the console or system log, it just won't start.
    This complicated with the problem I am having on the same server where I cannot connect via ARD after reboot without someone there physically plugging a monitor into the video port first (another open post I have - http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5850246#5850246 ). So, doing maintenance at off-hours is almost unworkable.

  • Reporting Services not automatically starting. System event log 7009, Application event: 18456

    For the past month (since Oct 11,2012)  reporting services (SSRS 2008R2) is not starting after the server is rebooted. The service is set to automatically start and starts manually without a problem.  The system event log contains the following error:
    Event ID 7009: A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER) service to connect.
    SQL logs :
    The SQL logs has many "Event 18456 Login Failed, State 38" errors when the database engine starts. I assume clients conections are failing because the databases  aren't online yet. None of these 18456 errors coorespond to the account reporting services
    runs under.
    The SQL logs indication Event 7009 occures before the "ReportingServer" database is online so im assuming there is a dependancy but I don't know how to avoid this.
    This problem is occuring on a number of our servers running SSRS (if not all)
    Any ideas?
    Paul

    Hi A141695,
    For Event ID 7009, you can try to do the steps below to resolve it.
        1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
        2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
            HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
        3. Right-click Control, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
        4. In the New Value #1 box, type ServicesPipeTimeout, and then press ENTER.
        5. Right-click ServicesPipeTimeout, and then click Modify.
        6. Click Decimal, type the number of milliseconds that you want to wait until the service times out, and then click OK.
    For example, to wait 60 seconds before the service times out, type 60000.
    Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer. For more information about it, please see:

  • SQL Server service not automatically starting (logon failure)

    I just installed SQL Server 2012 on a machine. To run "SQL Server" as well as "SQL Server Agent" service I have created a domain account called SQLADMIN. This account is a service account and has no other rights like logon locally or
    local administrator.
    When the machine restarts, "SQL Server" service doesn't start automatically. When I click Start then it says "Logon Failure". Now if I simply enter the password again under tab "Log On" and then start service then it starts. Why
    doesn't it start automatically?

    Hello,
    Please read the following article about permissions required by service accounts.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504(v=sql.110).aspx#Serv_Perm
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Alberto Morillo
    SQLCoffee.com
    I do not see any special permission that is needed as per the article. For e.g. as per below:
    SQL Server Service
    Permissions granted by SQL Server Setup
    SQL Server Database Engine:
    (All rights are granted to the per-service SID. Default instance: NT SERVICE\MSSQLSERVER. Named instance: NT SERVICE\MSSQL$InstanceName.)
    Log on as a service (SeServiceLogonRight)
    Replace a process-level token(SeAssignPrimaryTokenPrivilege)
    Bypass traverse checking (SeChangeNotifyPrivilege)
    Adjust memory quotas for a process(SeIncreaseQuotaPrivilege)
    Permission to start SQL Writer
    Permission to read the Event Log service
    Permission to read the Remote Procedure Call service
    I am running Database Engine service as DOMAIN\SQLADMIN account which can Log On As A Service. Other 3 permissions mentioned in article are not given so let me assign it and then see how it goes.
    Could this issue be due to some domain policy? Because there is another SQL Server machine which shows same behaviour.

    ===============
    Strangely even though windows says the service is down. Grid control IS actually working. I can log in as see the AS server control and see that it's all up.
    I am at a loss on what to do.
    I may have to raise a call but I decided to ask here first
    Cheers
    Graham

    We have found a solution to this Issue.
    the notes on meta link are only half correct and it is a combination of 2 fixes that solves this problem
    Solution:
    Frist:
    Create an environment variable called
    EM_OC4J_OPTS=-XX:+ForceTimeHighResolution
    On metalink it says to set the environment varibale like this:
    EM_OC4J_OPTS=-"XX:+ForceTimeHighResolution"
    note the " " . this is wrong, there should be no quotation marks.
    Second:
    modify the file:
    <ORACLE_HOME>\bin\LaunchEMiasconsole.pm
    and change:
    my $OSNAME = $^O;
    my $command = "$JAVA_HOME/bin/java -Xmx256m ";
    if (($OSNAME eq "MSWin32") or ($OSNAME eq "Windows_NT")) {
    $command = $command .
    "-XX:+ForceTimeHighResolution ";
    to:
    my $OSNAME = $^O;
    my $command = "$JAVA_HOME/bin/java -XX:+ForceTimeHighResolution -Xmx256m ";
    if (($OSNAME eq "MSWin32") or ($OSNAME eq "Windows_NT")) {
    $command = $command .
    "-XX:+ForceTimeHighResolution ";
    Save the changes and restart you system
    this solved the issue for us

  • Created windows service fails to start

    Hi all. We have a piece of software that must always be running on a Windows Server 2008 box.
    Currently due to poor development, this software is only run by a local user (not as SYSTEM nor initiated via a Windows Service) so when our user gets logged off, the software goes down with it.
    I have to find a way to get a particular command to run (as administrator) when the machine turns on (even if a user a user does not log in). I have been playing with the SC command to create a service but I cannot get the service to start. I keep receiving
    the error:
    FAILED 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
    Another option I was trying as a temporary fix was to use the PsTools to launch the software. When the processes are running they are running as SYSTEM, but they still shut down when the user is logged off. Is there an easier way to get services to work?
    Or another way entirely to get software to launch on System boot? Please note that I am very restricted in this environment so doing this without the use of 3rd party tools is preferable. Thank you!!

    don't know if you already have this solved, but try using a default smbd.conf file in your /etc/ folder. if the windows services start then it is something in your configuration that must have been changed between the 10.4.7 and 10.4.2 updates.
    you can slowly start adding pieces of your configuration back in or just rebuild it if your configuration is not too complicated.
    if using a different config file doesnt work then seeing the issue with binding to the port makes me think that there is already another version of samba running on the server.

  • C# windows service question

    I am a web developer who has not worked with windows development for many years.  I suddenly have to change a windows service.
    The windows service reads EDI files.  I want to check for the existence of a row in a SQL table at the beginning of the code.  If the row does not exist, then I want to stop processing the current EDI file and move on to the next file.  I already
    have the code to check for the existence of the row.  My question is:  Is there an easy way to end processing of this file and move on the next file?

    If the code is poorly written, you might be better of rewriting it  Personally
    I always find my own code poorly written because I often code too linear and the code does not 'jump' from method to method
    Assuming that your code is basically single threaded (only processing one file at a time), you can keep a bool in the Program class to indicate if you want
    to continue.
    static class Program
    public static bool WantToBailout=false;
    static void Main()
    You can set and check this everywhere in the existing code
    private void someMethod()
    if(Program.WantToBailout)
    return;
    // normal processing
    if(!rowcheck())
    Program.WantToBailout=true;
    return;
    private void anotherMethod()
    if(Program.WantToBailout)
    return;
    someMethod();
    if(Program.WantToBailout)
    return;

    Hi Marc,
    Thanks for your reply!
    JAVA_HOME is set.  It echoes out c:\Program Files\jdk1.7.0_25\jre.
    I installed the service as described by the documentation for the process.
    I've also applied the jvm_mx correction to jvm_options (as outlined by the documentation link above).
    No errors are reported during the installation, but evidently it's being installed misconfigured.  Adjusting instsrv.bat to only echo out the commands it runs gives back the following:
    C:\CQ\5.6.1\publish\crx-quickstart\opt\helpers>instsrv.bat cq5
    Installing service cq5

    Do you think anything still looks wrong in there?

  • Weblogic Windows Service Won't Start

    Hi there,
    We have a server with Weblogic installed. After a restart one day the beasvc.exe service hung when the server came back up and now it won't start. Weblogic is currently running in Consol mode and runs without issue. Can you someone give me instructions on how to troubleshoot the Service start of beasvc.exe and what may have caused it please?
    Kind Regards

    Hi,
    You can try to start your service using the debug option which should give you the error on the prompt if any, following is the command to start the service in a debug mode
    WL_HOME\server\bin\beasvc.exe -debug "SVC_NAME"Where:
    WL_HOME= Is the path where Weblogic server is installed say something like c:\bea\weblogic92
    SVC_NAME = That's the name of the service. The best way is to right-click the service which you have created in the services.msc panel and select properties then copy the Display name of the script and then paste it in the "SVC_NAME".

  • How to start OC4J as a Windows service?

    I installed OC4J standalone version 10.1.3.4.0 so I can configure Apache FOP. The startup/shutdown process is manual and my Windows customers are not liking it at all. Is there a way to make it a Windows service so it starts automatically when the system boots? Otherwise, the system has to stay logged in and the command window that started the process needs to remain open. Windows folks don't like this.
    Thanks,
    Denise

    I had an example here of doing this, way back when I was a young lad:
    [http://radio.weblogs.com/0132383/stories/2004/04/28/oc4jAsAWindowsService.html|http://radio.weblogs.com/0132383/stories/2004/04/28/oc4jAsAWindowsService.html]
    Don't know if the utility even exists any more but there's likely to be something else that has taken its place if not.

  • How to let SOA Suite automatically start Oracle Database services if necess

    It occurs from time to time that I forget to start Oracle database services
    before I start Soa Suite. Can I somehow let SOa Suite startup script check in advance
    if Oracle database services need to be started (and start them automatically if necessary)?
    Peter

    Hi,
    This is a familiar issue. I've come up with the following solutions.
    1) On my linux machine, I start the database (EE) and soa suite at boot time using /etc/oratab.
    2) On my windows machine, I start the database (XE) at boot time, as a service that automatically starts. The soa suite is started manually. I could start the suite automatically as a service also, but because it takes up so much memory and I do not always want to run the suite, I prefer to start manually. In any way, the database is started automatically before the soa suite.
    Hope this will help you.
    Kind regards,
    H
