Windows setup error on install

Hello...
I am running Windows XP home edition, SP 3.
I have iTunes 6. Downloaded the installer for 8.2.1.6, but when I try to install it, I get an error saying:
1: The InstallScript engine on this machine is older than the version required to run this setup. If available, please install the latest version of ISScript.msi, or contact your support personnel for further assistance.
This happens during installation of Quicktime. After the error, I hit "ok" and the install stops, saying that the installation of Quicktime did not finish properly and iTunes requires Quicktime.
I've Googled to try to find out how to update this issetup.msi, but am not finding anything really concrete. I have found some suggestions to dl Windows Install Cleanup program, which I did, but I believe that will uninstall the iTunes 6 I have now, and I don't really want to do that because if I can't get iTunes 8 running, then I will have no iTunes at all, and that will suck.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to make this work? My old iTunes 6 won't even let me buy music from the iTunes store anymore...
Thanks.

The problem is that iTunes 6 used installshield as its installer, so in order for the uninstall to work correctly you need installshieled, and the iTunes installer must do an uninstall first if there is an earlier iTunes.
Here is a link to update to the latest installshield:
http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108322
If you can't get the uninstall to work, and you want to upgrade, you have to use the Micorosoft Installer cleanup utility and hope that the new iTunes will work.
I would make backup copies of iTunes Library.itl and iTunes (Muisc) Library.xml before doing the upgrade. A backup should be made by the installer, but it sometimes goes wrong.
Here is a method for removal, cleanup and reinstall:
== uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Save the files on your PC.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
XP
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Vista
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
If it does, install iTunes.

  • Windows setup error after installing new hard drive

My hard drive failed. After installing the new hard drive and running the recovery disks, I get an error that says windows setup could not configure windows to run on this hardware. The new HD is basically the same as the one originally in my HP Touchsmart
    600-1155 PC.

    Hi Hpygram,
Please share more details about this issue.
    1. What option did you choose when you use the recovery disks?
    2. Did you perform the clean installation?
If you meet this error message when you  perform the clean installation, please refer to the following KB for more details.
“Windows Setup could not configure Windows on this computer’s hardware” installation error on a Windows 7-based or a Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2466753
    • Check if the hard drive you are installing to is an "Advanced Format" disk.
    • Check your setuperr.log and setupact.log to see if the error are related to your drivers.

  • Windows Setup Error, Need Help

so i just tried to install what i think was XP home edition on my MacBook. I picked the partitioned boot camp disk to install it to, and all went well until the setup was complete. After setup was finished copying files, my computer rebooted and came to a black screen that read something like "press any key to boot from disk. . . . ." then it displayed a message something like "disk error, press any key to restart." so i pressed a number of keys but nothing happened. i couldn't eject the disk or get anything to happen so i had to do a cold shut down. I rebooted and when it came to the black screen again i pressed a key before the error popped up and it took my directly back to the windows setup.
so basically im stuck going through the setup. although now i cant get past the part that asks you which disk to copy windows to, because its already been setup on the boot camp disk. i cant eject the windows CD or figure out how to get back to the mac OS.
Im pretty bad at computers so any help would be great, its either this or i take it to an apple store. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem?
    Thanks.

Two things you might try. After turning the power off, hold down the switch below the scroll pad when you reboot. This should eject the install disk. Alternatively, when you start to do a cold boot after powering down, hold down the option key. You should eventually see icons for the possible operating systems. With the arrow keys move the cursor to the MacOS operating system, and then hit the return key. This should boot you in Leopard.

  • Windows 193 error when installing coldfusion 8,9

    Hi,
I am installing coldfusion 9 or 8 in mysystem and repeatedly getting the windows 193 error during installation. I have already installed java too and this problem is still present.
kindly suggest me a solution for this problem.
    regards,

"Windows 193 error" as in the error described on this page - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms681382%28VS.85%29.aspx - ie: "%1 is not a valid Win32 application."?
Are you trying to install the 64-bit version of CF on a 32-bit system, by any chance?

    Hello,
I am afraid that I could not get any error message form that list you shared, is there any other message about that error?
To narrow down this issue, I would recommend you check the following suggestions.
    1. Rebuild your project and debut it to see whether it could work.
    2. If #1 works fine, then publish it and install that application to check whether there is any issue while installing.
    3. If #2 works too, then you could share the screenshot and the detailed error message with us.

It's strange, because I can install that package, and all the other custom ones without error if updates, security updates and hotfixes are not included. It must be one of those packages which is causing the install to fail. I tried to install updates manually
once I deployed the image but after the updates some of my custom applications didn't work well.
All of this just happening on the intel board, not the amd one.

  • Windows setup Error on Raid 0

Hi, I have MSI K7N2 Delta2 Motherboard, and two IDE Maxtor Hardrives. Diamond Max 9 and Diamond Max 10 both of same capacity(80 Gigs).
I have followed the motherboard's manuel and followed everything step by step to setup Raid 0. The computer detects both drives as one. I have no problems until this stage, I even confirmed this by booting with Acornis Disk Director and it shows both drives as one large 155.33 Gig drive.
When I start to install Windows XP Pro, I press F6 and install the Raid drivers from floppy and windows installation continues. But when it had loaded all other drivers and files necessary to install windows, the blue screen with an error message saying "windows will halt to prevent hardware damage" or something like that. And the usual check for virus, check for disk errors, make sure newly added controllers are setup properly and so on ect....
I have tried alot of things :
    - bios set to defaults.
    - tried downloading latest raid driver and all previous versions I can get my hands on
    - Checked hardware setup many times (All are ok)
    - windows CD not corrupted as I tried installing it on another machine to test.
    - crossing my fingers and praying hard that it will work this time (again and again)
What is wrong? Can anyone help me please.

I got fedup of failures setting up windows on Raid 0 and decided to go back to installing windows on a single IDE like good old days and guess what The same error screen popus up during windows installation. Now I can't install windows on a single IDE drive too.
It loads initial default windows drivers and when it gets to "Starting Windows" it hangs .
I have already deleted the array, reformated the drives, removed all drives except one to install windows on.The windows installation cd is not faulty as already tested on another computer, Rams tested on my Asus machine and is OK. Can't be PSU as I now only have the bare minimal and removed everything else whereas I was using 3 drives and TV card and 3 casing fans prior without any problems.
    Is the board broken?

"There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

Hi!! I finally found a solution
I´m Sure this one will work for everyone

    or google it
    -Install Unlocker

-ProgramData window will open, so find apple folders
-Right click in each apple folder and find Unlocker in the options
-Choose Delete each apple folders (with unlocker program)
-Go to My PC, C Local Disk and find Program Files
-Look for Apple folders and Delete them (with Unlocker)
-Find a Folder (in Program Files) called Common Files
-Delete all Apple Folders (in common files) with Unlocker
    - Empty your trash can (thats what i did)
    -Reboot
    -Install Itunes
Note: You can Reboot or use Safe Mode to use Unlocker if it doesnt work.

  • HT6413 I keep getting a installation pkg error when installing icloud for windows 7 on my pc.

I keep getting an windows installation error when installing icloud for windows 7.  I have tried installing manually without success.

There is a very long way which is removing anything related to Apple including stuff in the registry.
The short way is as follows. It worked for me.
I have seen that in the forum EXCEPT the registry trick which is missing and does the different.
    1. Remove the Apple account from Outlook.  In my case a me.com account.
    2. Disconnect the connection to ICloud in the control panel of version 3.1.
REBOOT and open Outlook to see that all traces of the email account and of ICloud are gone.
    3. Uninstall ICloud 3.1. I used REVO Uninstaller in Safe way mode. It removed some stuff in the registry from what I see; but not sure.
    4. Delete as much stuff as possible in the C \Program Files (x86) \Common Files \ Apple
and C\Program Files\Common Files \Apple.  My computer is 64 bits.
    5. Go to the registry by typing regedit.exe or simply type regedit in the Start Box. Search for ICloud.  I deleted TWO entries related to ICloud. Otherwise, you will still see the ICloud control panel despite the fact that you removed 3.1.
    6. then I was able to install ICloud 4 immediately.  Upon restarting it asked me my email and password and added itseft to Outlook like it was before. Be aware that you address book in Outlook could be deleted, so do an export before.

  • Can't install Dreamweaver CS4 on WIndows 7.  Setup error

I can't install Dreamweaver CS4 on WIndows 7.  I get a vague error that says Setup error, sontact Adobe Customer Support. Adobe Customer Support refuses to help me.  That really upsets me.

First of all I would like to thank the people that responded to my post.  I am extreemly impressed with your eagerness to help and your concern for my problem.  Thank you very much! I appreciate it.
I did not see a way to get a transcript of my chat.  I should have printed it at the conclusion of my chat. Overall though, I think my concerns are with Windows itself and also how Adobe as a company handles a call from someone who gets an installation error that says "call Adobe Customer Support". I purchased this program to run on Windows 7 and I am installing it on a Windows 7 computer. I feel that if Adobe is going to give a vague error message and tell you to contact them, they should give me more assistance than "your product is too old, good luck on the forums". I could see if I am calling and asking them how to do something, maybe my product is too old for that, but I think their responce was unacceptable.  I hope enough other people complain so that Adobe changes this policy.
Wow, this has taken an enormous amount of time to deal with. I imagine this is mainly a Windows file permissions issue, but I think Adobe needs to take some ownership for a client having to spend many HOURS trying to install their program on the original OS they purchased the program for.
I definitely do not like the way the Adobe Dreamweaver installer deals with errors. Here are the facts as I know them.
When the installer would fail on install, the subsequesnt install would fail, but it would give a VERY cryptic error stating that the install failed and I need to contact Adobe customer service.
In order to re-install I had to un-install.  Naturally my un-installs failed every time, too. After lots of trial and error and checking the forumns, I found   the program install folders under c:\programs. I deleted them, re-booted, unistalled again with no errors.  Then I could re-install without the vague "contact Adobe customer support" error.  Note that I had to re-install several times to get to the bottom of the installation problem so this took a long time to figure out.
In the end, I had to manually delete files from C:\Windows\Installer in order to get Dreamweaver to install.  This took a long time to figure out, too.  It still installed with errors, but it said Dreamweaver would work with limited functionality. So far this is good enough for me and I am tired of spending non-billable time on this.
Following is one of the main erros I got during the first failed install.  IF ANYONE KNOWS EXACTLY WHY MY INSTALL WAS FAILING I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW.  IT SEEMS LIKE IT DID NOT HAVE PERMISSION FROM THE OPERATING SYSTEM TO ACCESS THOSE FILES, BUT THAT SHOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE AS THE PROGRAM IS INSTALLED AS ADMINISTRATOR. Any thoughts???
    Thanks again everyone who helped!

  • Installation of Client Access role fails on Windows Server 2008 R2 (Execution of: "$error.Clear(); Install-ExchangeCertificate -services "IIS, POP, IMAP")

    Hello
I am trying to install Exchange Server 2010 beta 1 onto a Windows Server 2008 R2 (build 7000) machine which has also been set up as a domain controller.
However when attempting to install the Client Access role, setup fails with the error below.
Does anyone know of a way to get around this please?
I have already searched for this error and not found any similar threads.
Also every time I press the code button on this forum it crashes the browser and I keep losing the message! (IE8 from within Server R2). Also the message box is very small, will not expand and keeps jumping to the top.
    Thanks
    Robin

    Hello
    Thanks for all the replies.
I have since wiped the system and installed everything again and it all worked this time so not sure what was wrong last time. I did try to uninstall all Exchange components and then uninstall IIS and Application server, reboot and re-install but I received the same error still when it came to installing the client access role.
Walter: I just attempted the standard installation which should have used the default self-signed certificate. Everything was a fresh install done at the same time on a freshly formatted PC.
For info last time when it failed to work:
    - Installed Windows Server 2008 R2
    - Installed Domain Controller role using dcpromo. I set the forest and domain as Windows Server 2008 R2
    - Added a forest trust between main domain and test Exchange domain (set up as ex2010.local)
    - Installed IIS and Application Server role
    - Installed Hyper-v role
    - Installed Desktop Experience feature
    - Installed Exchange and recieved the error
When it worked I set up the forest and domain in Windows Server 2008 mode (i.e. not R2), installed Exchange first and then set up the forest trust and then Hyper-v. It did say it failed to configure dns which was probably because it started trying to do automatic updates half way through the dcpromo! DNS seems to work ok though.
I did notice this time that Hyper-v gave a warning about the virtual network adapter not being set up correctly and the local network did not work correctly although I could access the internet. Not sure if this could have been related to the cause of the problem previously. For now I have disabled the virtual network until I get time to try and get it working and so the mail will work in the meantime.
I also noticed that Hyper-v added an extra 443 ssl binding to the default website so as it had 2 bindings on port 443 it refused to start. After deleting one it worked.
I decided to install Exchange onto a domain controller as it is only a test and I wouldn't do it in a live environment. I am also short of test machines! It didn't give me any warnings about this actually, I think previous versions warn you that it is not recommended.
Andreas and Chinthaka: I did not know about the requirement to run the domain at 2003 mode. The main domain is running in 2008 mode with Exchange 2007 so I assume this is just a temporary beta related requirement. It does seem to be working (second attempt) so far in a 2008 mode domain although I haven't had a chance to fully test it yet.
    Thanks
    Robin
P.S. Sorry it's taken me a while to reply!
