  • Repeating Job Can Hang In "Started" Status On Multi-Cpu Windows Machine

    Dear All,
I am struck with a know Bug 3092358 "Repeating Job Can Hang In "Started" Status On Multi-Cpu Windows Machine". The Work around is mentioned in Note:307448.1 in metalinks.
In the above doc for the Fix-3 Another option that worked is to try:
Upgraded to EM 9.2.0.6 and applied the Apr05 CPU.
I searched in metalinks to get patch to upgrade EM from 9.2.0.1 to 9.2.0.6. But not able to find can some tell me where can i get this patch.
    OS: windows 2003 server
    DB:9.2.0.1
    OWB :9.2
Pls,do let me know if there any other work arounds,
    Thanks for your help.
    Rgds,

While I dunno the specifics of NT threads, one way to spread 1 thread across multiple processors is by simply round robining the thread between the processors over time. i.e. Thread A spends 0.5seconds executing on cpu 1, for the next 0.5 s the thread is moved over to cpu2 and executed there, then it is moved back to cpu1 and so on...
I think the Convex SPP used this model, the motivation perhaps being to spread load evenly among all cpus. Made sense in a multi-user multi-cpu system with a real fast bus.

  • Can't start CS5 64-bit in Windows 7

Can't seem to find an exact fix for this problem. I reinstalled Windows 7 (64-bit version), and of course had to reinstall all applications. Verified I'm running Win7-64 bit, but now when I launch Photoshop CS5-64 bit, I only get an error message that says "System unable to find file specified", even though the file is listed in the proper place by Explorer. I'm able to launch CS5-32 bit version normally, but of course that version limits the RAM available to about 3GB and I have 16GB installed. I'm able to successfully launch Lightroom 3 in 64-bit mode.
I've tried uninstalling Photoshop CS5, rebooting and re-installing in a different location with a fresh download of CS5 from Adobe.com but still always the same error message that "System cannot find file specified" when launching.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Many thanks.
I think you've got two different types of problem going on at once here. Let's try clearing this second error out of the way first.
the second is "Error writing to file: C:\ Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Webkit.resources\inspector\Images\timelinePillGreen.png. Verify that you still have acess to that directory."
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through without that particular error message afterwards? (Whether this works or not, we still might have to deal with the system services message.)

  • Windows Services not starting in OOBE after Sysprep - Windows 7 Professional 64bit

So, I'm attempting to create an image to deploy to our Lenovo Thinkpad T540p's using Windows 7 Proffesional 64bit. At this point I'm simply setting up the image and running Sysprep /oobe/ generalize and then trying to boot into windows to make sure it works
before we store and deploy it.
When I do, I'm getting an error message that the services failed to start and restart the PC. I started the process listed here:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/658528ce-6eb5-403b-ae41-458147c2c044/sysprep-failling-after-reboot-into-oobe
But my issue seems to be a bit more complicated than that, as the issues for me seem to be coming from the registry key [\REGISTRY\MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\ROOT\LEGACY_KL1] as being the one that:     <Data Name="Message">(c0000022):
Failed to process reg key or one of its descendan
I've tried starting from the Lenovo image, or our previos image but cannot avoid this error. Any ideas? Here is the logfile in full:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RlStS8OyNTsL7Y_VO2HniDz0FI0jUi-ZGnUCVlowVvs/edit#gid=192385465

It's an image that was created by the previous tech. He appears to have modified the lenovo image (it has a bunch of lenovo bloatware still on it) and then run sysprep on it. His image works, but if I make any changes to it, it seems to break.
Yeah, I wish I could get a hold of him and ask, but that's not really an option ><
Edit: Interestingly enough I ran sysprep just from the image and it did the same thing...I'm not really sure what the last guy must've done to set this up

  • Upgrading windows 7 home premium 64 bit to windows 7 professional 64 bit

Can I upgrade Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit to Windows 7 Professional 64 bit without losing my program information, my settings or my desktop? If yes, how to proceed?
Thank you for your answer! Manuel

Apologies about the delay. I've been brooding.
Although we don't know where the specific relevant keys are on modern versions of iTunes, there's a shotgun approach we can take to dealing with them, which has a reasonable chance of success in this case. The complicating factor in your case is that you've got a 64-bit Windows. So there's an extra hoop to jump through.
The basic approach is the procedure from the following weblog entry:
[Solving setup errors by using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions|http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/09/04/solving-setup-err ors-by-using-the-subinacl-tool-to-repair-file-and-registry-permissions.aspx]
The complicating factor is that we have to make an additional edit to the reset.cmd file.
When you're in Notepad, replacing the two YOURUSERNAME values with the name of your Windows 7 user account, in the first line of the batch file, replace the:
    %programfiles%
    ... with:
    %ProgramFiles(x86)%
(On a 64-bit Windows system, subinacl is installed in a different location than on 32-bit systems. So unless we make that change, the reset.cmd isn't going to be able to find subinacl and the reset.cmd won't work.)
While you're in Notepad editing the file, make sure each of the nine lines of the file start of a new line. (Sometimes they get smooshed up together on a single line, and then again the reset.cmd won't work.)
I'd strongly suggest setting up a System Restore point immediately prior to running the reset.cmd. There's instructions on that in the following document:

  • AppleScript Studio: status bar and panel window

My problem is that the panel won't open, and so I don't see the progress bar.
All I am looking for is the panel to come down, show the progress bar turning, then for the panel to go away when iCal is done adding the event. This is the entire script, but I'm not sure I have everything right in Interface builder. The Documentation for display mentioned clicking panel ended, but then further down it looked like you didn't need it.
    I'm confused.

    Thanks for the response,
right now the window is in a seperate nib file. I was
trying to follow the applescript studio example
    "Display Panel"
Then you need to load it, look at the example, you see panelWIndow is declared as property:
    property panelWIndow : missing value
    then inside on click handler:
if panelWIndow is equal to missing value then
load nib "statusPanel" -- if your nib is statusPanel.nib
set panelWIndow to window "statusPanel" --> that's AppleScript window name
    end if
    then you can use:
display panel panelWIndow attached to window "main"
What is the advantage / disadvantage of having more
    than one nib file?
Not a whole lot in simple app, because you have to load it to use it.
But in more complex apps, the advantage is that you don't commit run time memory, if the users don't use it.

  • After clicking "Save" in "Save as" file dialog, the dialog disappears but no download is started. Is this a Windows 7 64 bit issue? It works fine in Windows XP.

I am trying to download the iTunes installer for Windows 7 64 bit.
I have "Always ask me where to save files" checked in Firefox's download options.
    Steps to reproduce the problem:
    1) In the iTunes download page I click the "Download now" link and Firefox shows me a "Opening iTunes64Setup.exe" dialog with a "Save File" button.
    2) I click the "Save File" button. Sometimes the dialog disappears but nothing else happens. Other times I get the Windows 7 "Save as" dialog.
    3) I click the "Save" button in the save file dialog (I'm using the default user documents folder). The dialog disappears and nothing happens.
If I uncheck "Always ask me where to save files" then the download works fine.
I also have a Windows XP 32 bit with the same configuration where everything works fine which makes me think that this problem only happens in Windows 7 or in the 64 bit version.

It is possible that anti-virus software is corrupting downloaded files or is otherwise interfering with downloading files.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

  • I have Firefox for U3 and lately it keeps trying to instal an update, which fails and a 2nd window tells me another copy of F'fox is running (which isn't) and when I close the window F'fox starts anyway, but all this takes a lot of time.

I have Firefox for U3 on my Verbatim stick to run on whatever computer I happen to be using. Lately every time I try to open F'fox a window comes up saying "Firefox is installing your updates and will start in a few moments." The status bar indicates the update is progressing, 'though a bit slowly, then suddenly it's done and the window disappears, only to be followed by another window coming up which says "The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on you computer and then re-start Firefox to try again."
If I press the 'OK' button OR press the Close button, the window disappears, but then F'fox starts up all by itself anyway.
How can I stop this updating problem happening every time and on every computer I use.

    Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.
Try to toggle some Boolean gfx.font_rendering prefs on the about:config page to disable some features.
    Filter: gfx
    Some to try:
    * set gfx.direct2d.disabled to true to disable Direct2D
    * set gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.use_gdi_table_loading to false.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

  • Windows Failed To Start

    Hi,
I own a Lenovo Ideacentre All-in-one A700. OS is Windows 7 64 Bit. Recently I did a bluetooth software update which got stuck in between and I restarted the system. Ever since that, I get a message from Windows Boot Manager saying "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
    To fix the problem:
    1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.
    2. Choose your language settings and click next.
    3. Click "repair your computer"
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
I do not have the OS CD nor have I created the system restore disks. What I do have is the backup of all my data in drive D. Now, when I contacted lenovo through e-mail, they asked me to use One Key Recovery (OKR) and repair my system. I tried using that but then when I tried to take the backup of my files I get a message saying "The Image file is not valid." I did a bit of research in lenovo forums and found out that those whose OKR version is older than 7 face this issue. I checked up my OKR version and found it to be 3.
Here is the link : http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/hk/en/HintsandTips/hints_show_13263616724030.html
I have tried all the other options to load my OS including safe mode, safe mode with command prompt and last known good configuration but it comes back to the same screen. I am also unable to update my OKR to the latest version. I have a lot of important files located in my system. Now, can someone please help/guide me as to what I should do in order to use the backup created already in D drive and restore my system.
Thanks for all the Help !!

Well sorry to say this, but if you look that error up in Microsoft or a internet search it means the HDD is bad.
The only thing I can recommend is to try and take the HDD out and pull the Data from another PC or boot Linux and see if you can copy your Data that way.
Hopefully you can still save your data.
    Good luck.

  • 0xc000025 - Trying Recovery System via Recovery Manager: Windows failed to start.

    Name: Pavilion dv4-2161nr
    Prod. Number: WA691UA#ABA
    Windows 7  64-bit
I splitted original Hard Disk Partition in three partitions.  I formatted those two not containing O.S.  Now I want to format the partition containing the O.S.
      1)  If I choose "Recovery System", will it format all three partitions?  Or will it format the partition I choose to?
      2)  I tryed "Recovery System", but it failed.  What can I do?
2.1)  I made Recovery DVDs when first used the PC.  It loads but it never runs.  It's like theres no AutoRun, and there's no ".exe" to execute when I open the first DVD Recovery via Windows Explorer.  What am I missing?
2.2)  I tryed Recovery System via Recovery Manager.  System shuts down and starts reiniciating but it gives the following message "Windows Boot Manger: Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware of software change might be the problem.  Status: 0xc000025.  The boot selection failed because a required device is inacessible".  What can I do?
         Regards,
         Rafael.

I tested the Hard Drive and it passed 100% ok.
I tested the Memory and it passed 100% ok.
My PC runs a Win 7 Home Premium.
I've just run a Win 7 Ultimate CD Installation.  It formatted the System Partition, but I couldn't get Win 7 installed because when I filled in my Product Key it said the Product Key wasn't right.  Is it because Product Key for Win 7 Home Premium wouldn't work on a Win 7 Ultimate installation?
I hoped the Hard Drive would be ok after it had been formatted while I tryed Win 7 Ultimate installation.  So I tryed once again to boot with HP Recovery Disc.  It stopped at 23% once again.  Until 23% there are all noises that get me thinking PC is running ok.  When it get up to 23% all noises just stop.
    Any ideias?
    And thanks once again.
    Rafael.

  • Migration from Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 Server

I am working on migrating Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 from Old server to new server. We have db around 500 GB and 3 schemas. I installed Oracle 10G on new server, created tablespaces, schema's blah blah and now doing export and import at schema level from old server to new server.
Import is taking more than 4 to 5 hours on new server. My manager is saying, window time is bit longer and he wants me to try possiblities to make this process faster. Can some one help me on this, to use the best possible method to complete this process faster?
Will below step work, if I try?
If I install, oracle 9i and 10g both on new server in different home directories and take the hot backup from old machine and restore on new machine in 9i home directory and use the upgrade configuration assistant from 10g and do the upgrade? Pls advice.

    It looks good.
I have one question in below steps:
To migrate an Oracle9i or older database to an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) database for 64-bit Windows:
    1 Perform steps 1 - 11 in "Migrating an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) Database".
2 Shut down the database on the 64-bit computer:
    SQL> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
    3 Start the database migration:
    SQL> STARTUP MIGRATE;
4 Migrate the database as described in Chapter 3, "Upgrading a Database to the New Oracle Database 10g Release" in Oracle Database Upgrade Guide.
In step 4, it says, migrate database as described in chapter 3. In chapter 3, it says, to do the upgrade the process using dbca or manually. Pls confirm whether do the upgrade process after issuing startup migrate or not.
    Thanks in advance.

Only Apple could hamstring and tie Mac OS to Windows. There isn't any other than whether you can download the drivers into Windows (you can) but Apple puts a block on the installer setup even if your mac does not support it.
Windows 7 needs at least Boot Camp 3.1 and 3.3 is what you should already have. And you are not getting security updates if you don't have at least 10.6.8 as was pointed out.  --- you arent using Software Update as you should. And you should backup and clone Mac (and Windows) as well.
You need Mountain Lion to use Boot Camp 5.x which supports Windows 7 & 8 and 64-bit.
I would upgrade to Lion if you can realizing that Rosetta and PowerPC are no longer supported though.

How do I use the Boot Camp 5 Support Software I downloaded from the web page?
The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it.
Double-click the Boot Camp disk image.
Copy the Boot Camp and "$WinPEDriver$" folders to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system (see question below for steps on how to format).
Install Windows, leaving the flash or hard drive attached to the USB port of your Mac.
Installation of the drivers can take a few minutes. Don't interrupt the installation process. A completion dialog box will appear when everything is installed. Click Finish when the dialog appears.
When your system restarts your Windows 8 installation is done.
Note: If the flash drive or hard drive was not attached when you installed Windows and was inserted after restarting into Windows 8, double-click the Boot Camp folder, then locate and double click the "setup.exe" file to start the installation of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software.
How do I format USB media to the FAT file system?
Use Disk Utility to format a disk to use with a Windows computer. Here's how:
Important: Formatting a disk erases all the files on it. Copy any files you want to save to another disk before formatting the disk.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the disk you want to format for use with Windows computers.
Click Erase, and choose one of the following from the Format pop-up menu:
If the size of the disk is 32 GB or less, choose MS-DOS (FAT).
If the size of the disk is over 32 GB, choose ExFAT.
Type a name for the disk. The maximum length is 11 characters.
Click the Erase button and then click Erase again.
Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp.
