Windows sharing of HP P1102 printer, letter printing problems

Hi
I have a P1102 connected to PC1 via USB, which is working fine. I have PC2 connected to the printer via windows sharing.
When PC2 tries to print a letter (manual feed), a pop-up appears on PC1, and there is no way for PC2 to continue with the letter print untill the PC1 pop-up is cleared. In order to continue with the print job, you have to access PC1 to select 'continue' on the popup dialogue box, at which point the manually placed envelope is printed
Is there any way to stop this behaviour on letter prints for the shared printer?
(PS. I have tried diabling Status messages however this did not help, neither PC could print letters)
Thanks
Brian

HP posted a workaround for this problem while they were working with Microsoft to get the root cause of the problem, many customers commented that the workaround helped them out and they were able to print. This workaround was not easy to use as the customer needed to add another printer manually and changed drivers.
We can now announce that the problem has been fixed, the problem involved a Microsoft Network component that HP was using to talk to and track the printers on the network. This fix is being rolled out by Microsoft via Windows Update and anyone who has Windows Update enabled and set to automatically install updates should have already received this update. For those that do not have Windows Update setup to automatically install fixes the fix is available now and should be installed.
The details of this fix and a manual method of installing it can be found here.

This fix is only designed for users that are using there printer on a Network (Wireless or Wired) and will not fix partial printing problems encountered with USB connections.

    @tenkeypro
First, I would suggest you uninstall the exsisting driver and reinstall following one of these documents to see if it will clear this error message:
Install HP print and scan software on a Windows 8 computer (32-bit and 64-bit)
    Universal Print Driver (no scan)
Driver support included in Windows 8 / Windows 8.1 or in Windows Update

  • Setting up to print to an already Windows-shared HP PSC 1210 printer

I have an HP PSC 1210 (All-in-one) printer that is already attached to a Windows XP Pro based PC, and being shared over a home wireless network created with a Belkin wireless router. I just bought a Macbook and wish to connect to this shared printer to enable the Macbook to correctly print to the printer.
I have already tried going to System Preferences -> Print & Fax -> -> More Printers...
Selected Windows Printing and found the printer on the network, but I can't specify the correct Printer Model. It does not list the PSC 1210 under the HP option.
The printer works fine if it is directly connected to the Macbook via USB.
I have searched the discussion boards already and have come across some posts referring to hpijs, EPS, and Ghostscript, but all of the links have either lead me to dead links, source code, or I read documentation that says my model of printer is not supported. Also I have read somewhere that the PSC 1210 was never supposed to work via the network...only through direct USB connection.
I'm looking for anyone who might know if it is possible for me to connect a Macbook to this networked printer (shared or standalone) and what I need to do, whether it is software or buying hardware (i.e. an airport express unit). Please don't tell me to just look at other posts, because I have already and I've pretty much exhausted them.
    Thanks,

  • Windows 7 and Acrobat 8 printing problems

I recently installed Windows 7 as my operating system and when I try to print an image I dont get an image from the printer, just some unconnected marks.  Once I was able to find a setting in acrobat that read "not to print pictures as text" but am unable to find it again.  Adobe support blew me off so I need to try this avenue.  Don't think I will go with Adobe again.  Any body know where this setting is?

Acrobat 8 does not work under Windows 7. You need to install either Acrobat 9 with all updates or Acrobat X.

  • Windows 8.1 upgrade and printing problema

I recently upgraded my to windows 8 to 8.1 now when I print to my HP Officejet Pro 8600 it intermittantly leaves text out.
An example I can print a school test and it might print the some questions and some answer choices or omit the question but print the answer choices or only part of a question. It isn't consistant about what doesn't print or where it prints. My husband has windows vista and has not encountered any problems, so I'm thinking it is from the windows upgrade. Any thoughts.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi jojomulherin,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I read your post and see that since upgrading to Window 8.1 the full text document isn't printing.
I will be happy to help you.
If you haven't already, I would uninstall and reinstall the printer software which should resolve this issue.
Uninstalling HP Printer Drivers in Windows 8.
HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a Drivers. Select the operating system and click next.
Click on Driver - Product Installation Software and download the drivers. Select the Full Feature Software and Driver.
    Hope this helps.

  • Printing Problems with PDF - Adobe Acrobat

    Printer - HP Deskjet 3070A
Laptop - Asus Zenbook running Windows 7 Home Premium
Issue: Printing problems with PDF (Adobe Acrobat Reader)
    Dear All,
    Please help!
My printer was working absolutely perfectly until my brother in law recently needed to borrow my printer. He plugged in his laptop running Windows 8 (awful thing that is). Since he did this to print his own PDF, I cannot print mine.
Although all the text will appear on the page perfectly both in the document view and on actual printing, it appears that some of the transparent formatting stuff on a PDF - such as boxes you have to fill in and transparent areas (such as you find on glorious tax forms) are omitted completely. In fact, in their place I was getting a single black dot. Now, after uninstalling and re-installing updates for the printer, windows 7, adobe acrobat reader, etc.etc. I get squat. Just all the text laid out but none of the shading or boxes.
I have tried fiddling with the printer settings; the  print as 'photo' option, dpi settings, greyscale - as much as I can think of and I am thoroughly stumped.
In a desperate attempt, I even installed the Universal Printer Drivers - thinking it might have been that. No. All I got was a page of gobbledygook. Consequently, I uninstalled and reinstalled the normal drivers again.
If there are any wonderful people out there with any fabulous ideas about how I can get my shading and boxes back; I'd  very much appreciate it. Sadly I have a tax return to fill out (which is already fabulously late) and need my printer to work!
    Much appreciation in advance x

    Hey there @Reverie!
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
I can see that the printer is no longer printing in the correct format after it was plugged into the Windows 8 computer!  You mentioned you have run the updates and uninstalled/re-installed the printer software.  Have you uninstalled and re-installed the Adobe software? Are you getting the same issue from other programs as well? Are you getting the same issues if you are logged in as a different user on the computer?
I have located the HP Update Software Utility that may be able to help.  You can download an run the utility.  It may be able to locate any other updates for the printer.
I would also recommend running a disk cleanup on the computer to clear any temporary files and junk files that may be causing some performance or software issues. If you do not know how to run a disk cleanup on the computer please follow this document regarding Delete files using Disk Cleanup.  It is recommended to restart the computer after a disk cleanup. After the restart try the print job again!
Let me know if that helped and thanks again for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Help! Mouting Windows shared drives in solaris and printing

Hi, Is there any article that explains in detail how to mount network folders (shared folders on Windows NT/2000) from solaris ? We have a windows domain with several systems and a print server on windows 2000 and a sun solaris 2.8 system in the same network. Also How do I setup solaris to print to our printer which is configured on a windows 2000 domain? The printer is not an ip printer, but is there a way that you could print to a certain port to the print server from solaris (windows 2000) and then capture info from that port and direct it to the printer? Any suggestion of books might also help.
    Thx Paul

Hi, Is there any article that explains in detail how
to mount network folders (shared folders on Windows
NT/2000) from solaris ?The usual solution is using Samba to let Solaris talk the Microsoft file sharing protocol(s).
Sun used to have a product named PC Netlink or PC-NFS.
I don't know if it's still available, though.
How do I setup solaris to print to our printer which is
configured on a windows 2000 domain? The printer is
not an ip printerSamba can also allow Solaris to print to a printer on a Windows print server.
Alternatively for the printing question, I'm told Win2K includes a Unix/LPD Print Service on the cdrom, which supports the Unix printing protocol. (RFC 1179)
    Take your pick.

  • Printing to a Windows Shared Printer in Windows Domain Stopped Working

If anybody can shed some light on the problem below I would be highly appreciative. I have tried every suggestion I've found on ways to fix this problem, including postings found on this forum, without success.
I use able to Print to a Shared HP Laser Jet printer one a Windows 2003 Server machine, which is part of a Windows 2003 Domain. It has been working faultlessly until about a 2 weeks ago. I have had a number of errors including unable to Connect but the Error I get constantly now is:
+Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry in 60 seconds...ERROR: Connection failed with error NTSTATUS_NOMEMORY"+
I have reset the password of the windows user that originally made the connection when the computer was set up and this password had special characters. After reading various posts I have tried:
    1. Reseting that users password without special characters, deleting the printer and adding it back in using the same user and the new password. The same user can map and connect to windows Shared Directories on the same Server and open and edit files
    2. I have reset the Keychain to make sure it was using the new password. Again deleted and re-added the printer.
    3. Created a new user both on the domain and one the print server deleted and re-added the printer using each user while also reseting the key chain
    4. Tried the Advance option on the Printer Setup Utility using the following SMB URL format,
smb://user:pass@Domain/Machine/Printer where, the domain is called "home", the machine name is "Devserver01" and the printer share name is "HPLaser" resulting in a smb URL of smb://shanep:xxxxx@Home/Devserver01/hplaser.
    None of the above work!
So as a new MAC user I have absolutely no other ideas of where to look for additional information on what is happening i.e. where do you look for log files that may contain additional detail.
Can anybody assist on suggesting any other things to look for or check?
    Thanks
    Shane

    Hi Greg,
Thanks of the tips. I have just managed to get it working and I didn't use the LPD method but tried a few different smb URI's.
    Here's what I found worked.
    1. I created a standard user account on the Windows 2003 server on which the printer is connected and shared, i.e. a non Domain user name that is local to the server only and not the domain
    2. I then used this user name and password, along with the IP address of the server in the URL i.e.
    smb://user:password@IPofserver/hplaser.
    3. Printed a test page successfully
I then tried variations of a theme using username and passwords on the domain, changing the @workgroup/server/printer with no success.
I could however replace the IP address with simply the @Server/Printer combinations using he local user name and password successfully.
I also installed apple and Unix printing and file services so whether this made the difference I'm not sure.
Interestingly I tried to add the mac to the LDAP/Active Directory and couldn't successfully bind to the directory. Not that I'm an AD expert, but I have configured a few Java applications to use LDAP/AD authentications and groups of late so this problem is a little unusual, but that aside, thanks for the pointers, Printing problem solved. now to solve the AD one

  • Printer Sharing and Windows Sharing with Windows Vista

Today I tired setting up a printer sharing network over my linksys wireless router. I turned the printer sharing on and the windows sharing on my mac. Then I launched my notebook with vista on it and installed Bonjour for Windows 1.0.3. Once the installation finished I ran the wizard and installed the shared Epson Stylus Photo 1280 printer.
Once I finished the wizard I gave the printer a go.
I tried printing a word document on my Vista machine using the new wireless set up and nothing happens the printer queue gains the document spools it and then it's gone. Then, I tried using Vistas Sharing set up. After setting up another printer icon (the same printer). When I go to print I get an error message.
Also when I try accessing my shared folder from my vista machine. I use my Username and password for the login. The computer responds that my Mac Mini's username and password is incorrect. Thus, I cannot fileshare between by Mac Mini and my Vista Laptop
What can I do to get my printer sharing and my windows sharing set up to work.
(also, my Epson Stylus Photo 1280 Printer is hooked up to my mac mini through USB).
    Please respond
    Thank you

  • Accessing Windows shared printer, no GIMP driver for Canon iP3000. Options?

I checked a few pages worth of threads but couldn't find a solution to my problem.
Finally accessing my Windows shared printer. I have a Canon iP3000 and it doesn't print when I use the generic driver. I tried selecting the GIMP "Canon BJC 3000" driver but the prints end up shrunken to about a quarter of the paper size (8.5"x11"), my paper was set up and configured correctly. Any options for correcting this?
I had planned on connecting the printer to my MacBook Pro but all the support I could find was for sharing from Windows, so if anyone knows a good resource for such a setup, that'd help too.

There are new versions of Gimp-Print, now called Gutenprint, coming out on a regular basis. Check if the latest has your model:

  • How to add a Windows shared printer

I was doing everything that Article: HT3049 was saying but i still couldn't print with my windows shared printer from my mac , finally I found out another way, so for those of you who that having problem you can do the steps below:
    On the Windows 7 PC
    1. Go to Control Panel
    2. Select "Programs and Features" panel
    3. Click "Turn Windows Features on or off"
    4. Click on the "LPD Print Service". Under "Print and Document Services"
    5. Ensure printer(s) are shared
    On the Mac
    1. Open "System Preferences" - "Print & Fax"
    2. Click "+" to add a printer
    3. Right hand button tool bar to customize and add "Advanced" button
    4. Select "Advanced"
    5. In the "Type:" field select "LPD/LPR Host or Printer"
    6. In the "URL:" field enter lpd://IPserver/PrinterShareName; (e.g., lpd://192.168.1.102/samsung)
Using lpd://ServeName/PrinterShareName does not work, the IP address must replace ServerName
The IP address is the address of your PC, the one assigned by your router
    7. Click the "Add" button
    enjoy!:)

I had to download the driver for my printer. Depending on the printer you will have to go to that site. In the search engine type 'mac os driver (model printer). I have a dell wireless. After that I went to printers/faxes and hit the + sign and my dell printer was there to add. Hope this helps a bit. I actually just did it today.

Rather than use SMB to connect from Lion to the Windows XP printer share, a better method is to enable Print Services for UNIX on Windows XP and then use LPD on the Mac to print via the Windows share.
To install Print Services for UNIX on Windows XP:
Log on to the Windows server with an administrative-level account.
Start the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.
    Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
Click Other Network File and Print Services, and then click Details.
Click to select the Print Services for UNIX check box, and then click OK.
Follow the instructions on the screen to finish the installation
If you haven't done so already, share the printer on Windows XP and make the name one word - no spaces or special characters
With the print services enabled you can then create the printer queue on Lion.
Open Print & Scan and click + to add a printer
Select the IP icon and set the protocol to Line Printer Daemon - LPD
For the Address, enter the IP address of the Windows XP computer
For the Queue name, enter the share name set for the printer in Windows XP
Name and Location are free text so you can set this to something meaningful
For the Print Using menu, select the supporting printer driver. Note that like connections via SMB, the vendors driver for Lion in some cases cannot be used and an alternate like those offered by the Gutenprint suite must be used.
Click the OK button to complete the queue creation.
Now you are ready to test the new print queue.

  • Leopard 10.5.2 cannot see Windows shared printer

I'm brand new to the Mac world and just got my Macbook on Monday afternoon. I'm trying to set up my Epson CX7400, which is connected to my Windows Vista desktop. Unfortunately, the Macbook can't see it under the add printers menu. I've tried installing Bonjour on the Windows machine, installing the Epson drivers on the Mac, joining the Windows workgroup (which apparently didn't work, because I still can't see the Mac on the Windows PC and vice versa, even after setting up a new location to ensure that it saved the settings) and installing the newest Windows drivers on the PC.
So, I'm all out of ideas and Google has run dry for me. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks very much. I saw a lot of info about CUPS, gutenprint, and samba out there, but not much context to it.
For folks just reading this from google:
The easiest way to add a Windows printer, in most cases, is to check Gutenprint, which is included with OS X, to see if it supports your printer. (http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3)
If not, try searching google for "<your printer model> cups driver".
Bring up the add printer dialog under system preferences and right click on a blank space on the toolbar. Choose customize toolbar. Drag the "Advanced" icon onto the toolbar. Then, click it.
Under type, select Windows. Go down to "Print Using" and choose "Select a driver to use...". Pick your driver in the list. "SMB://" should have autofilled in the URL form. From this, you'll add the name of the PC to which the printer is attached. Say you've set its network name as Bob, for example. You'll put "smb://bob", and then you'll add the shared name of the printer. In my case, it's an Epson CX7400, and I've shared it as EpsonCX7400. Keep in mind, Mac OS doesn't like names longer than 12 characters or shares with special characters like $ and @ and things like that. (If you're unsure, you could always just share it from your Windows PC as printer1 or something.) Were that the case, your URL field would read "smb://bob/printer1". If you named it something like mine, "smb://bob/epsoncx7400". If your printer requires a username and password to print, you'll put "smb://<username>:<password>@bob/printer1", substituting your username and password in the <username> and <password> spots respectively.
Afterward, if you've done all that properly, it should work. Hopefully, anyway. It did for me. Well, it showed up anyway. I've not actually tried to print from it, yet.
