Windows snapping to upper left screen

Occasionally, when I click on the icon of a running application (Calendar, Thunderbird, Firefox) in the dock, it will appear on the screen in the upper left corner instead of where I left it last. Furthermore, it will usually appear shrinked (sometimes really small), the left edge of the window will be beyond the screen border, and if I try to drag it back into the main part of the screen, it snaps right back to where it was.
The only way I've been able to recover is to quit the application and restart it.  Upon restarting, it usually still has the same size problem, but I can resize and move it.
I only have one display and I just double-checked in System Preferences to be sure that the OS only thinks there is one display.
Here is a shot of what it looks like when Calendar gets stuck in the upper left corner:
That isn't the entire window (I didn't want to expose the details of my life's schedule ) but you can see that the window extends beyone the edge of the display.
Any ideas?

  • Application windows snap to upper left corner and stick there

Since I upgraded to Mavericks I've had an intermittent problem with application windows. If I shrink a window down to the dock sometimes when I being it back to the desktop it goes up to the upper left corner of the screen and sticks there. I can drag it away but when I let it go it snaps back to the corner. I have to close the application and reopen it to get it back to normal.
So far it has only happened with TextEdit and Google Chrome and it only has happened 6 or 7 times in two weeks but since it makes the window unusable I have lost work when it happens.
Has anyone else seen this and is there a fix?

  • I am trying to download the newest Itunes to windows 7. I did have a previous version that I used the control panel to delete. When I click on download, I get a small partial window in the upper left corner showing Internet Explorer Cannot Display the Web

I did have a previous version of Itunes and Quicktime that I used the control panel Uninstall to remove. When I do the download, I get a small window in the upper left saying Internet Explorer Cannot Display Webpage. It is trying to get to ....itunes64setup.  I did check to see that all old Apple directorories, etc have been delete. Help!

Okay. Let's see if you've acquired some kind of restriction for the download site. These settings checks/changes apply to the IE downloads, so we'll be trying to use IE again.
Head into your Internet Options control panel, and click the Security tab. Click Restricted Sites.
Check to see if the following website is listed as a restricted site:
    appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net
If it is, remove it from your list of restricted sites and try another download.
If still no joy, head back into the security tab of the Internet Options control panel. Click Trusted Sites this time. Click the "Sites" button.
Add appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net as a trusted site. Uncheck the "Require server verification" box. Now click OK and try another download.

  • Image snapping to upper left when opening?*

    * I do NOT use image tabs
OK, DL'ed CS 6 and I'm going in! First thing I notice is after setting up my prefences exactly as CS5 every image I open in CS6 snaps to the upper left of my work space and I'm not allowed to drag the image window where I please (like the center of my screen). It keeps snapping back!
With a 26" screen and smallish files this becomes instantly frustratiing. Now if I drag the image anywhere on my dual monitor desktop, the image returns to the upper left, but with every move it covers up the UI. AND IT WONT STOP!
Nobody better tell me this is a "feature" - I'd appreciate some guidence here
Oh and BTW, the new crop tool stinks, it make me dizzy and confused. This is not progress, just more UI change cuz 'its cool'. Hopfully we can revert to cropping the way we have for 15+ years.

TLL, before reverting entirely to the classic mode, try just turning off the Auto Center Preview option.  I find it very natural to use now.  Try that and just do what you used to do on the screen.

  • Lost the 'file, edit' etc'task bar on the left side of my mail menu.  my upper left screen reads 'welcome to lightroom moblie.  I never had nor can use these.  how do i back to basic LR and upper left task bar?

I have lost my 'file, edit, ...' task bar from the upper left side of my LR screen.  My upper left corner now reads something about welcome to Lightroom mobile. ( I have never had or used the mobile version and I can't use it anyway. )  When I push my mouse pointer up again the top of the screen the 'file, edit,...' does not reappear and stay as it has been doing for the last 3 years.  How can I get it back?  And, maybe what did I do so I can avoid this from happening again?  Thank you.  (I am not PC knowledgeable, please bear with me.)

Does the menu bar appear when you move your mouse pointer to the top of your display. If so then you could change the behavior of Lightroom via the menu Window->Screen Mode
    Hope that helps

  • Finder window stuck in upper left corner of display.

I have a MAC mini running OS X Mavericks with an ASUS display.  After a while an open Finder window gets stuck in the upper left corner of the display.  I can pull the window into another position on the display, but it snaps back to the upper left.  Seems to happen after the system has gone to sleep.Has anyone else seen this problem?

According to a report, the problem can be solved at least temporarily by changing the Dock size. I can't confirm.

  • Power supply burn to upper-left screen

You may never notice this unless you look for it and I'm wondering if it's happening to other iMacs. It's not perceptible with the monitor on. To see if yours has this issue, put the iMac to sleep and shine a flashlight at an angle in the upper left corner.
When I purchased my iMac in late 2007 it had a problem with an overheating power supply that would shutdown the computer. Took it to the Apple store where the repair tech, with the iMac turned off, spotted burns in the screen that radiated from the upper-left corner and spread out across the left side of the screen. He said that he had never seen this before and determined that it was due to the overheating power supply. My iMac was replaced with another.
A couple of months ago I noticed a small burn in the same location again. I'm wondering if anyone knows what the operating temperatures of the iMac should be. Here are the temperatures (in Fahrenheit) that I normally see on my iMac. Are these typical or are any running too high?
    Ambient - 81
    Power supply - 150
    Airport card - 148
    Hard drive - 121
    CPU - 108
    GPU - 135
    GPU diode - 140
    GPU heat sink - 135
    Memory controller - 117
    HD - 121
    Optical drive - 108
    FAN SPEEDS (rpm)
    CPU - 1199
    Optical - 998
    Hard drive - 1219
    Thanks!

I assumed that the temperatures were normal. My main concern was with the screen burn but I have solved the issue. The burn is to the coating on the glass screen and not actually in the monitor itself. The only problem is that no amount of cleaning can remove it.

  • Remote Desktop scroll bar on Window snap to top of screen issue

I have an external monitor attached to my laptop and it has a screen resolution of 1920 x 1200. My laptop screen has a resolution of 1920 x 1080.
I create remote desktop connection files for connecting to a number of internal servers. When I create them , I set the display resolution to 1920 x 1080. This means that I can snap it to the top of my laptop screen and it will go full screen, or I can snap
it to my external monitor, and it will pseudo full screen (has no side borders, but has a window title), but will leave a small gap at the bottom so I can access my taskbar (which extends across multiple screens thanks to DisplayFusion)
However, recently instead of going into this pseudo full screen, it no opens at 1920x1080, but has vertical and horizontal scroll bars.
Running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and the Remote desktop versions are Shell version 6.3.9600, Control version 6.3.9600, Remote Desktop Protocol 8.1 supported.
Does anyone know why this would have start doing this?
    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply Alex.
I'm not sure what you mean by configured the screen resolution of my 1920x1080 monitor? The resolution of both screens have been set : The one on my laptop is 1920x1080, and the external monitor is 1920x1200.
My remote desktop session resolution is set to 1920x1080, and if I drag it to my laptop monitor it makes it full screen, exactly as I want.
If I drag the remote desktop session to my external monitor, I would expect it to snap to the top of my screen, filling the width, but leaving some space at the bottom. This is how it used to behave, but recently, it has started to show scroll bars.
There are no remote desktop policies related to resolution settings.Karl

  • Two buttons in upper left corner , arrow pointing upwards with a tail &  tw

Real simple and quick question in a lot of logic windows in the upper left corner I see these two buttons.
Once is a arrow pointing upwards with a tail that goes to the right, and turns at a right angle.
The other question is what is the button right next to it that looks like two paper clips, or two links in a chain. Often this is shaded meaning that it is enabled correct?

That's the hierarchy button, useful for moving up in the display levels - for navigating up and down within folders, for example.

That button links windows. Control-clicking sets the way the links are established. Useful for updating (or not) displays of regions - for example, linking a specific region to the piano roll.
There's another useful link button on plug-in windows, which allows you to switch a plug-in display to show another plug-in in the same window, or with it off, display separate windows each time, so you can compare one to another.

  • After Maverick Install, how do I get windows from randomly locking to the upper left of the screen?

This has only began to pop up since installing Mavericks.  Seemingly at random, windows (Finder, Safari, etc) will lock their positions to the upper left of the screen.  What's worse is that it is always half on the screen and half off.  There is no title bar to move the window, but I can still three-finger move it from another area of window.  Unfortunately, when I place the window where I want it to be, it immediately snaps back to its original screwed up position.
    Any insights?

  • Problem with windows shrinking vertically and becoming stuck in upper-left corner of screen.

Does anyone else have problems with open windows shrinking vertically and becoming "pinned" to the top-left corner of the screen in OSX 10.9? They snap back to the upper-left if I try to move them. I have to Quit or Force Quit the apps and restart them.
I have a Mac Mini, and I have it hooked up to a TV via HDMI. This only seems to happen when I switch the TV input source *from* the Mac Mini to, for example, DirecTV. When I switch the TV's input source *back* to the Mac Mini HDMI connection, all seems fine; except that some or all of the windows that were on the desktop have shrunken vertically, and they are "stuck" in the upper-left corner of the screen. When I try to move the windows out of the upper-left corner, they snap right back. Very weird.
Everything else about the desktop and the Mac Mini appears just as I left it. The screen resolution hasn't changed - nothing like that. Although my first thought is perhaps the screen resolution is, briefly, changed to a lower resolution when the Mac Mini detects that its "monitor" connected via HDMI (in this case my TV) doesn't appear to be there because I have switched the input source of the TV. That's just a guess. And even if that's correct, I don't know how to fix it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, I don't remember this happening before I upgraded to OSX 10.9 Mavericks. I'm not 100%, but it seems like something I would have remembered. So the culprit could be 10.9, or it could be something else I have installed recently.
Thank you to anyone that can answer this for me.

    same here:
Overview: I've seen it occur with the symptoms described by the OP while running Xcode, almost exclusively  after waking my laptop from sleep mode.  It effects non-Apple apps as well, but sometimes differently-- the window(s) open in Eclipse Juno for instance will sometimes disappear entirely such that they are totally inaccessible.  As the OP noted the only way to clear the problem is to force quit the app and restart it (quite a hassle if you have multiple project windows open at once).  I run Juno on Win32 and debian Linux also and have never seen behavior like this, so given that the problem has been observed in Apple branded apps and the fact that it only started after I installed Mavericks I would also posit that it is a Mavericks bug.  That said, I do run a third-party app called WindowMagnet (v. 1.6 by CrowdCafe) that affects the window system, allowing Windows 7 Aero style window snapping; does anyone else having this problem use WindowMagnet?
Steps to reproduce:  open Xcode, put the machine to sleep, wake the machine -- this bug will appear intermittently
Expected results: windows should remain the same size/configuration they held prior to sleep
Actual results: intermittently windows will be 'stuck' in the upper-left corner of the display or entirely invisible
System info: mid 2012 macbook pro (OSX 10.9.1)
