Windows stalls in install iTunes 5.0

Hi,
I have a problem installing the new iTunes on my Windows XP. If it's going to install new files, Windows stalls, it doesn't do anything anymore after that. I have to reboot every time, but it goes on every time. Does anyone know a solution for this problem?
Many thanks in advance,
Tim Philippen

So, Tom, where in the installer did it hang on you? You know a screen shot would really help. Did it hang right at the beginning with the first "iTunes+Quicktime" progress bar?
That's usually because there's a weird character in the file path to your iTunesSetup.exe file. And if you just move the file somewhere else, like C:\, the top level of your boot drive, it will run just fine.
Is it hanging after all the dialog windows where it's installing Quicktime or Publishing Product Information. I would ask if you running in 4 bit mode (i.e. 16 colors) or check your version of ole32.dll, sometimes an older copy of that can cause problems.
Go to My Computer->C:->WINDOWS->System32 . Then right click on ole32.dll and select "Properties". Click on the version tab and report back the File version.
If you're still having problems, let's get a log file from the installer and give it to the Apple engineers.
1. Start menu -> Run... In the text field of the dialog that comes up, type in "cmd" and hit return.
2. In the command prompt dialog that comes up, find the iTunesSetup.exe file on your desktop and drag it to this window. Then on the same line type in a space and then the following:
/Verbose"c:\log.txt"
There is no space between the e in Verbose and the double quote (").
3. Hit return.
4. The installer will run like it did when you double clicked on it, but it's creating a log file in the background. Get to the point where it hangs and kill again. Then look for the log file:
C:\log.txt
Find that file and send it to the apple moderator. Tell her Toonz sent you. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread, so that whoever gets it has some context.

Check the songs are really not in the Music section of the library by clicking the magnifying glass in the search box and unticking Search Entire Library if it is ticked, then typing in the name of the album. If the tracks still don't show try closing iTunes and deleting a hidden file called sentinel from inside your iTunes folder. This should make iTunes run an integrity check on the database when you start it again. Make sure the tracks are checked before you try syncing again.

I have also tried extracting the individual components to the temp file and attempting to install them individually despite being unable to remove the previous install of Apple Software Updater.  The outcome, both Apple Software Updater and itunes encountered the same error message during the install process.

  • Since I have Windows 8.1 installed, iTunes does no longer open, what do I have to do?

I have the ipod classic and recently I updated Windows 8 to 8.1
since that time I can no longer open iTunes, meaning I cannot add any music to the ipod.
i have googeled the issue and got the 'uninstall-download latest software from Apple download' but it does not help
I allways get the message 'there is a problem with the program, windows will close the program now and check for a solution'

Windows 8.1 is still a preview release and hence is not supported. You may well need to wait for the full release and for Apple to either update iTunes for compatibility or Microsoft to fix the issues on their end. One rather strange suggestion in another thread here advised reinstalling or updating Flash Player, so you might give that a try. Additional suggestions can be found here:

    Hello hallefrompa,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The following article provides an answer to your question:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202
iPod shuffle and iPhone are intended for use with a single computer. You cannot load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto iPod shuffle and iPhone like you can with other devices.
You'll need to setup your iPod to sync to this new iTunes library:

  • Solution to "iPodService Error" issue while installing iTunes 10 for Window

This instruction applies to Windows XP:
    Un-install iTunes 10...follow Apple's instructions to un-install iTunes 10.
Right Click on <My Computer> icon on your desktop
    Select <Properties> from context menu
    Select <Advanced> tab
Click <Settings> under Startup and Recovery
Click <Edit> under "To edit the startup options file...."
The boot.ini file should now be opened in Notepad. Check and update the following flag to match:
    /noexecute=optin
    Re-install iTunes 10
The process should be normal without the "ipodservice error messages".
It worked for me...Good Luck !

  • Getting the error "Cannot copy file GEARAspiWDM.sys." while installing iTunes

I am installing iTunes on my PC (Windows XP) but I am getting the error "Cannot copy file GEARAspiWDM.sys." but the path is correct and I can copy it manually. Help!

    Hello LondonMom,
Sorry to hear that iTunes is not installing properly.  I found an article that has steps for troubleshooting iTunes installation issues on a Windows computer:
Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows

I recommend starting with the section titled "General installation troubleshooting" and then continue with the section titled "Additional troubleshooting" if the error persists.
    I hope this helps!

After installing itunes my computer stalls when loading atipcie.sys driver. Computer will not boot up in safe mode or Last known good. Only resolution was to perform System Restore to a time before itunes was installed, thus deleting the itunes installation
Anyone know of a fix or workaround for this issue ?

    Windows 7 64 bit core i7
BSOD while updating to iTunes 10 with suspended installation of Apple Mobile Device Support. Network drivers no longer working as a result. Attempted fix by downloading from a different machine and competing install via files transferred over on flash drive. No dice. Attempted removal of iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Application Support, Apple Software Update to see if this would fix. Followed this up with a restart. This seems to have improved matters as system is starting up faster. No dice. Try reinstall network drivers from Sony ViaoCare disk. Installed and restarted. No dice. Next, try Widows 7 Network and Sharing diagnostics. No dice. Next try manual removal & reinstall of network driver using Device Manager, restart. Can't seem to re-install Network Controller. Still trying to solve this.

  • How do I install iTunes on my new Windows 8 Acer laptop? Nothing seems to be working

How do I get iTunes to install on my new Windows 8 Acer laptop? Nothing seems to be working.

Yes, you can use the staller CD that came with your iPod. It should have all the iPod Updater and iTunes software needed for your iPod and your new computer.
Also, if you don't have the CD available or you want a different way, you can install iTunes 6.0.5 from Apple's website. See this link for installation:
    Download iTunes 6
Also, you'll need the iPod Updater software (as I previously mentioned). You can download this from Apple's website on here as well:
    iPod Updater
    iPod Software
I hope this info solves the issue,
