Windows Starter sticker countaining a key, but no installation CD

I have recently bought an IdeaPad Z570. I bought one taht does not come with a Windows 7. But I discovered that i has a Windows 7 Starter key on a sticker but no Windows 7 DVD.
My question is: how can I use this key? Is it possible to install Seven from another DVD and using this key for the installation?
Thank you.

  • Windows @ Start-up? Why? But...

Ive had my MBP BC'd for about 3 months, solely to play an MMO, dont use windows for anything else. When I game, I use a single external monitor. Now, suddenly, when I start-up my computer, it goes straight to Windows 7. Here are the issues that have started to add up:
-Start-up now boots to Windows 7 automatically
-When I hold down the option key, to make a choice between the two, the screen (without the external monitor attached), looks, "bloated" like it does when I have an external monitor. Meaning, the icons are huge and fat, lol.
-I can't update Nvdia drivers because it says their 32 bit and the Win 7 I have installed is 64 bit.
Any help on these issues, especially the computer automatically booting to Win 7 at start-up, would be greatly appreciated.

did you yourself install Nvidia driver? you would most like have had to in order to play any games properly.
don't rely on or use the "auto-detect' if it is like AMDs.
most people I think find that they have had to uninstall the grapic driver (Apple's0 first before they can update or install a newer driver.
Driver Sweeper 3.2+ may be necessary to get rid of drivers you have (esp if there was an ATI driver installed by Boot Camp as well).
As to 32 vs 64, I'd thnk most people have 4GB RAM and should therefore use Windows 7 64-bit.
Just manually go thorugh and select the driver you need.

    Booted from Windows DVD?
Gone into startup disk in OS X to change the default?
Windows control panel Boot Camp has startup OS to change the default.
Sounds like a safe VGA mode but I never used laptop and using two desktop monitors.
You are running Lion so boot into Lion Recovery and check your Mac hard drive.

  • My MacBook Pro will not start up.  I only get a grey screen with the spinning wheel.  No blue page appears and the grey screen remains.  Tried starting with the Shift key but ineffective as well.

Can't get my MacBook Pro to start up.  Have shut it down several times and tried restarting but all I get is a grey screen with the spinning icon.  Apple Support online suggested starting with power button followed immediately with the shift key.  Same results.  Also tried power button with shift key, command, and V.  Black screen appeared instead with lots of data language but still no starting.  This final page was suppose to result in an internal system check and restart but nothing happened and the black screen remains.Where do I go from here?  Scheduled for the Genius Bar tomorrow but would like to resolve this beforehand.

You may be having a hardware problem that you cannot resolve on your own. Nevertheless...
...hold down the command and R keys whilst booting to try to get to your Recovery partition. If you can, use Disk Utility to try to Verify your boot drive (usually named "Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). If the verification fails, try to repair your hard drive. If everything appears to be OK, restart.
If you can't get into your Recovery partition, your problem is likely hardware related. If so, keep your appointment and see what the Apple techs have to say.

  • How to activate Windows 8.1 on a Windows 2008 R2 KMS server when I don't have Windows 2012 R2 kms host key

I only have windows 8.1 kms host key but I can't add a client OS kms key to Windows 2008 R2 kms server. And I don't have Windows 2012 R2 license either. Is there any way I can activate Windows 8.1 using my existing kms server? Thanks.

I would like a yes no clarification answer. So does this mean that EVEN WITH THE PATCH. My Server 2012 Standard edition that currently hosts KMS VA for clients running Win7, Win 8, Office15, Server 2008, Server 2012. Will not be able to host windows 8.1?
I will have to install 8.1 and use as a host?
if you have a KMShost product key for WS2012R2, you can patch a down=level Server and be fine.
(the OP didn't renew SA or otherwise has no KMShost pkey for WS2012R2)

I'm having similar issues and have a similar question that doesn't seem to be answered:
My KMS server is Windows 2008 R2 (Also is my domain controller). I want to activate Windows 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 machines off this KMS server. I can install the 2012 R2 key just fine but receive error 0xC004F015 (The Software Licensing Service reported
that the license is not installed) when I try to install my 8.1 KMS key.
What I'm gathering from this thread is that I have to set up a Windows 8.1 host and set it up to be a KMS server exclusively for activating Windows 8.1. Is this correct? If so, Microsoft needs to fix that. I have a SERVER for activations for a reason: it
is a server, not a client. If I am mis-understanding, how do I get my Windows 2008 R2 server to accept the Windows 8.1 KMS key for activating 8.1 clients?
    Thanks!
You don't need Windows 8.1 KMS key. Your 2012 R2 KMS key will be able to activate your Windows 8.1 machines. So your current set up is fine, no need to set up another Windows 8.1 KMS host.
    My problem is I don't have 2012 R2 KMS key as I didn't buy any Windows 2012 R2 license. So I can't use 2012 R2 KMS key to activate my Windows 8.1.
Oh that's interesting. I guess I need to play around more because my 8.1 test machine isn't activating. I'll start a new thread for that if needed. Sorry for the confusion.

    ====================== Keyless Install ================================
How to perform a 'Keyless Install' of Windows:
Boot from the Windows 7 DVD disc you created and start the installation process.
After you enter user name and password you will be asked to:
'Type your Windows product key',  do not enter a key.
Also located just below the box where you would enter the key is a box with a check mark
to 'Automatically activate Windows when I am online', remove the check mark and click 'Next'.
You will now have a 30 day grace period in which to activate Windows.
During this 30 day grace period you can try resolving your problems.
After you are satisfied all problems have been resolved then activate Windows.

  • I drag Firefox icon onto quick launch task bar, but it disappears everytime upon Windows start-up.

I had Firefox in my quick launch task bar. One day it disappeared. I dragged the Firefox icon from "Programs" to the quick launch bar. It also showed up in C:\documents and settings\owner\ Application data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\. But every time upon Windows start-up, the Firefox icon appears for a few seconds and then disappears. The entry in C:\documents and settings\owner\ Application data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\ also is no longer there.

I have had a lot of problems with Vi-View infecting Firefox recently but I have successfully removed it. In the process of removed and re-installed Firefox. On re-installation, Firefox works perfectly. However, if I close the program and attempt to reopen it I have a problem. An icon appears in the task bar and if I hover over it, it shows a normal Firefox start tab. However, I cannot maximise the screen to use the program. If I try to bring it up, a reduced size image flies off to the right of the screen. I have IE11 and Chrome installed and I have checked them to ensure Vi-view is no longer present on the machine to ensure this virus was not the problem.
My operating system is Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit.
Any assistance gratefully received. I don't want to stop using Firefox.
    </blockquote>
Many thanks for the quick reply. I have done as you suggested. I ran SFC, which did not report any errors. I copied to a USB stick and then deleted all traces of Firefox from my machine, not only in the "Programs" directory but also in "AppData". I downloaded the UK specific Firefox Full Installer and reloaded the application.
Everything is now working exactly as it should and Firefox is back as my default browser.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Firefox will not open from the start menu or the taskbar, but WILL open when called from Windows Live Messenger

This started a couple weeks ago, but doesn't seem to coincide with any other installations or reconfigurations, so I'm having trouble getting at the root cause.
The first time I run Firefox after installing, it runs fine (complete with a full list of add-ons.) If I then close FF and try to start it from the task bar or start menu, nothing happens. I've tried starting in safe mode (shift+FF), but get the same result. I've restored FF to all the default settings, disabled all my plugins and add ons, but no change.
The really odd part is that if I click the 'Inbox' link in my Windows Live Messenger, FF opens perfectly. This made me think that it was my homepage causing the issue, but A: I can go to that page without problems once FF has started from WLM, and B: even if I use the FF default homepage or google.com, I get the same problem. Furthermore, if I restart FF from within FF (like after I disable/enable an add-on), it will also start properly.
No crash report is generated by FF when it fails to load, but Windows catches the problem in it's event log. I've pasted the contents of that record at the bottom in the hopes that someone can take a stab at what's wrong.
Finally, I've already run through the online crash help, but everything is either not related (since FF will start if called indirectly) or has already been prevented (absolutely no add-ons are running at the moment.)

I have exactly the same issue. After FF upgraded on its own to version 5, it won't open from start menu, taskbar, desktop icon, or even by pressing firefox.exe in program files directory. It does so by pressing a link at msn messenger, inside Outlook etc.
Disabling all addons, didn't help. Moreover, I can't start FF in safe mode or start profile manager (Start > Run> firefox.exe -ProfileManager).

Which version of the OS is installed, and which version are you trying to install?
You could try starting up with Startup Manager and see if it will allow you to select the OS X install disc as the startup disk. If so, maybe you can proceed from there. I would recommend repairing the hard drive first since you are evidently having a bit of a problem with it.

i bought windows 7 download online and started setting up boot camp but it says to insert the windows 7 disk so how do i do this?
    plz help me

    Hi Jaimie,
To install Windows via Boot Camp you will need to have a copy of Windows on a physical dvd disc.
If your purchase provides you with an ".ISO" file then you can simply burn this to a DVD and then follow the standard Boot Camp installation instructions.
    Boot Camp instructions: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf
If you get stuck, just let me know the website you purchased Windows 7 from and I might be able to help you out.
    Cheers

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

    * KEY_PRESSED and KEY_RELEASED events which do not map to a
    * valid Unicode character use this for the keyChar value.
So: Give up all hope. Especially on a Mac.

  • Reinstalling, serial "Invalid," Windows 7 sticker faded

    I have an HP CQ60-615DX with Windows 7 Home (64 Bit) pre-installed.
My computer was running increasingly slowly so I uninstalled and attempted to reinstall ran into a roadblock with the serial number.
The 25 digit number on the back of my computer was not the serial or is now invalid. The number was not on the "Windows 7" sticker, but was underneath the battery. If there was a serial number on the Windows 7 sticker, it is no longer legible. The only readable lines on the sticker are a barcode, the software version, and a ###### ### formatted code.
Is it possible to retrieve a working serial from the visible information or tmy laptop's serial number? My computer is currently unusable. Please help if possible, thank you.

I'm not sure that this is what you have done but if not try it:
Call Microsoft Using Manual Phone Activation
    1. Open Windows Activation - click the Start button, right click Computer, click Properties, then click the option to activate Windows now or change your key.
    2. Click Show me other ways to activate.
    3. Type your Windows 7 product key, and then click Next.
    4. Click Use the automated phone system.
    5. Click the location nearest you from the drop-down list, and then click Next.
    6. Call one of the available phone numbers listed.
    7. Do not select any options and wait for a person to pick up, then explain what happened.
