Windows stopped recognizing CD?DVD

I was having issues from the Intel Rapid Storage Technology program and after reading posts on this forum, I uninstalled the program. My laptop is running great now since windows can handle everything. That was until I went to play or burn a CD. The drive shows up but the disc will not play and I cannot burn CDs. I have checked the driver and there are no errors. The Intel Rapid Storage Techonology program was causing my laptop to freeze and get errors.
I have the Lenovo G510 Laptop running Windows 8.1 64 Bit. The CD/DVD is the Mat**bleep**a DVD-RAM uj8e1.
Any help in this would be greatly appreciated.

It shouldn't seeing as RST provides improved performance and reliability for systems equipped with SATA disks for desktop/notebook.
Look up your model type here: http://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/
It should give you all the downloads available for your system.

as additional clarification..... no physical damage to computer....Discs being used are all functional Blu or CD or DVD.
HP Mediasmart DVD is still not working.
NO installation of new programs prior to this going on.
My same fire wall program, anti-,malware has been on this computer since I purchased it 7 months ago.
    No software changes in system.
I do not use the Comodo firewall system either.
    Thank you

Have you tried installing a trial Blu-ray player. Don't use one from Cyberlink as it's too close to Media Smart DVD.
     Use Arc Soft
      http://www.arcsoft.com/estore/software_title.asp?ProductCode=TMT5P&gclid=COXEpJ6CqqcCFQEKbAodpQdSCw
----Will give that a whirl when I return home.
Have you tried the obvious and picked a Windows restore point to where it was working ?  -------Windows 7, in that particular machine isn't letting me dial back for an earlier restore point..... it isn't even letting me see dates....Believe me I would have been happy to dial back a week or two.  Not sure why, Havent been able to dig in that direction....was trying to be careful about not digging a deeper hole before moving all important work files and stuff to a different machine before toying with windows deeper.
Maybe the drive itself has failed, do you you have another HP laptop that you can try it in ?-----have several HPs...might try that soon.
Check "Autoplay" in the control panel.----have done the autoplay fixes that have been proposed in other chains of similar problems....no avail.
I will keep throwing ideas at you no matter how simplistic they may seem. I find that it starts people thinking in another direction.     --------Believe me, I appreciate it, just as long as it doesn't devolve into .....Is the machine plugged in?
Have you tried burning a DVD with it ?   Not yet, that is a good idea.
Try installing Image Burn and  see if the drive will create ISO files with a Blu-ray disk. You will get a warning that Image Burn can't do this, but continue and let it dead the whole disc. Let me know if that works and I will give you the software to play the movie from the ISO files.
     http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
Use mirror 8 provided by Image Burn.
What version of Media Smart DVD are you running ?  Was using the most recent release......then uninstalled it and went back a few versions... to one that was linked to in another similar thread.
    Thanks.

  • My MacBook Pro's internal SuperDrive has stopped recognizing CDs/DVDs after Yosemite install

After upgrading to Yosemite, my MacBook Pro's (early 2011) internal SuperDrive has stopped recognizing CDs/DVDs after Yosemite install. It takes them in and will eject them with the keyboard button, but they will not mount. Disk Utility shows the SuperDrive and shows the inserted media, but will not mount the disk. That button is grayed out. Please help! I still have training libraries and music I access on such media. Thx!

UPDATE: I discovered some forum posts about a similar issue with Mavericks that recommended re-installing the system to fix the problem. I realized that I rarely restart my computer unless there's an update that requires it, and decided before undertaking a full re-install of Yosemite to simply restart my computer again. THIS WORKED! The SuperDrive is now mounting CDs and DVDs. Not sure what the issue was, but if anyone else has this issue I hope this will save you hours of frustration.

  • Installing iTunes made windows stop recognizing my iPod

*Short version:* the USB driver included in Apple Mobile Device Support with the latest version of iTunes did not work. Deleting them made my iPod work.
    *Long Version:*
I had an iPod Mini (4gb, past warranty) that recently had a harddisk failure, so I bought a new Nano. I uninstalled itunes, removed all related files and folders, downloaded itunes 7.5 and installed it, and plugged in the Nano. Error message: "Your hardware failed to install properly." ITunes did not see the ipod.
I spent a couple hours going through the apple.com troubleshooting suggestions, which did not work. Device Manager had the yellow exclamation point icon by "Apple iPod USB Driver" no matter what I did. Eventually, I decided to purge my computer of all Apple products, delete all copies of usbaapl.sys (the nonfunctioning driver) from my computer, and plug in the Nano without installing itunes. It worked! So I installed itunes, rebooted, plugged the Nano back in, and... it didn't work.
So, installing itunes made windows stop recognizing my ipod. At this point I decided that itunes might be using a bad copy of the driver, so I deleted all copies of usbaapl.sys from my computer and tried again. It asked for the install disk for "Apple mobile device" something, so I used Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support. After that, it's working.
So, I spent three hours troubleshooting because the drivers packaged with the latest version of itunes don't work. Spiffy.

Had the same problem and I uninstalled all apple products (itunes Apple mobile support, etc.), deleted all usbaapl.sys files, and reinstalled latest version of itunes + quicktime. I had the same problem. I then unplugged my IPOD from the USB connection, put it in disk mode, and then plugged the IPOD back into the USB connection and EVERYTHING WORKED!!
The following article describes how to put an IPOD into disk mode:

  • MacBook Inexplicably Stops Recognizing CD/DVD Drive

For the past month, my MacBook has had a problem in which it suddenly stops detecting it's optical drive (the one that came with it, that is). System Profiler insists it doesn't exist and I can't eject the CD that's currently in it. This has been solved before by rebooting or resetting the PMU, but this morning I tried rebooting and resetting both the PMU and PRAM to no avail; my optical drive and the disc inside it don't exist as far as my computer is concerned.
    What do I do?

Still no progress. Fiddling with the PMU and PRAM and resetting helps sometimes, but it dies a bit later. Now it's back to absolutely no response. This is a serious problem, and I'm an inch from going to AppleCare and seeing if it's a bad cable or something.
I could use my other computer's optical drive, but I didn't pay 1300 dollars for a shot Superdrive. I also kind of want to get the DVD currently trapped in my computer out of it. Is there any kind of manual emergency-eject like the ones on earlier Apple optical drives?

  • Mini combo drive stopped recognizing blank dvds

I have been using the same blank DVDs for a year now and they have just stopped working within the last two months. I insert the disk, the drive attempts to identify the media for a minute or so then spits it out.
I checked 20 odd DVDs and it's the same thing over and over. The drive still recognizes and burns CDs however.
Besides the standard Mac updates, I have recently started using Handbrake to pull my movies on my iPhone.
What do I need to check or reinstall to fix this issue?

oops, yeah. It is a superdrive. My bad.
I have never seen an error message.

  • Shuffle causes Windows to stop recognizing all other USB ports!?!

When I plug my new Shuffle in to any USB Port, Windows stops recognizing all other USB drives. (this includes my internet connection and external hard drive with all music) If I disconnect the Shuffle and repower the other devices, they work normally again. I've seen this same problem on this forum and the answer did not help - here is the answer/link given the previous posting: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499
The shuffle has its own drive letter on my computer, so no conflict here AND my husband's shuffle works just fine on this same usb port and same cradle. As soon as I eject the working shuffle and place the new one in the cradle, my computer shuts down and no other USB Ports work until I unplug the shuffle and repower the others. Maybe a shuffle problem?

The computer has recently stop recognizing the DVD/CD-RW drive! Current machine setup is a Lenovo 3000 J115 7387-A32 model running Windows XP Pro. I've gone into system setup and the DVD shows up as IDE drive 0. Drive has power, and I replaced the system cable connecting it the MB. Note, I replaced the DVD with another unit and set up the system to boot from the DVD, and nothing happens! Has anyone come accross this problem.

  • DVD Player suddenly stops recognizing and playing homemade DVDs

The DVD Player in our G5 has suddenly stopped recognizing and playing some home made movies on DVD from several friends. These discs played just fine before, but now we get a message that says "supported disc not available".
I've got the latest version of DVD Player 4.6.5. Why would it suddenly stop reading all these DVDs? Thanks for any ideas or help. Bob Krist
G5 Tower   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   SONY DVD RW DW-Q28A player

    My experience/opinon:
Without blaming Apple, it is a DigitalRightsManagment
problem, Apple is obligated to fullfill. You will
find that your homemade DVD plays fine on any
ordinary PC or even annother MAC-environment, just
    not on your own.
As of Mac-OS-X.46(5 not quite sure ) Support for
    UDF-Format ceased,
I believe to have read somewhere. So your DVD is
    mounted, but does'nt
    show up on the desktop.
    I am using OSX 10.4.7 (Build 8J135) DVD Player 4.6.5 (Framework 4.6.6)
Home-made video DVD-Rs work fine. DVD player starts when a disk is inserted. The disk shows up on desktop. Get Info and Disk Utility show UDF (Universal Disk Format). Finder shows the VIDEO_TS folder, .VOB files, etc. Get Info's Preview window will even play the .VOB files.
So, UDF read support is still in OSX 10.4.7 OSX has never had UDF write support except for iDVD.
I personally record movies from TV, legally. And my
solution to that problem is to create a Disk-Image,
    that I burn on a data-disc, and I don't use
    DVD-Player.
DVD Imager <http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html> will create UDF disk image files from VIDEO_TS folders. When you burn these with Disk Utility they will play in standalone DVD players and in Macs. They will start Apple's DVD Player when inserted.
Toast can also create UDF disks.
If you create non-UDF disks (e.g. with Disk Utility), most standalone DVD players will not play them and Apple's DVD player will not start automatically when the DVDs are inserted. You can still play them with Apple's DVD Player by using "Open DVD Media" from its "File" menu and choosing the VIDEO_TS folder.

  • Why did my Windows 8 computer stop recognizing my ICD-PX820 to upload files?

I have been using my Sony ICD-PX820 recorder with my Lenovo Idea Pad, which I purchased a year ago running Windows 8 (which has since updated to Windows 8.1) I have been able to plug my recorder into this computer, using this OS, to upload audio files for more than a year...until it suddenly stopped recognizing it today. When I plug it in, the battery icon disappears from the recorder's screen, so I assume the battery is charging (therefore it IS connected) but the device does not show up under My Computer (or pop up as a folder like it always did before.)
Nothing changed - there were no new updates on my computer, no settings changed on either device, it just stopped working.
Sony Customer Service was no help - they sent me a link to a page suggesting I unplug everything, restart my computer and just plug in the recorder, which I did before I contacted them. I tried updating my drivers, but the product page says there are no drivers available to download for this OS (Windows 8.1) - even though I have been using this device with this OS for a while!
Help! I have an audio file on my recorder I need to email to a colleague overseas, and I need to record more interviews tomorrow so this is urgent!

    Hi bronicba,
    Welcome to the Sony Community!
Thank you for your message. I suggest you try plugging the recorder into a different computer if possible, try a different USB cable, and try plugging the recorder to different ports on the computer. There is a possibility that the pin that is responsible for charging the unit is still working and that the pins for getting the device detected might have gotten defective. So I suggest you try connecting it to a different pc.
    Thanks and regards,

... And the dvd dissapear..... FOREVER!
    I Tryed this:
-Click on the cancel button -Then the window stop answering and didnt even stop recording my dvd-
-Reinit the finder... NO WAY. Do not run
-Force the end of the finder process... NO WAY... Do not run
-Reinit the computer....Well then the dvd is not there!!!!!! on the finder!
I wonder how can i "mount" the dvd when is not visible on the finder
Now i think you can access the unit with the disks utility... but this is one "arcane" place to find your dvd... I am sure many users never ever opened that tool
Can i mount the dvd from the UNIX shell? -sh-. Anyway this is not a good solution for the average user BUT COULD be ok for me
... And reinit the computer is not a "nice way" as well
Thank you for reading my long post

  • Mac Pro not recognizing bootable DVDs and Disk Utility giving odd results.

My issue is complex, but I'll try my best to explain it as I can.
One has been resolved it seems, but I am including it so that the whole issue can be seen in context.
    Friday, May 16, 2014
Last night, after rebooting my Mac Pro from my Bootcamp partition (I'm using Windows 7 Professional if that information is helpful) I received a kernel panic upon Mac OS X booting (Mac OS X 10.6.8).
My first action was to launch Disk Utility to verify the Mac HD, verify was stopped by disk utility citing that I should insert my Mac OS X install DVD and repair the disk.
I tried booting from my Snow Leopard install DVD. After the grey Apple logo appeared with the gear spinning below it remained for roughly ten to fifteen seconds (a little long) — then the Apple logo changed to. A grey prohibitory sign (circle with a diagonal line through it, the spinning gear remained. — I tried booting from the Snow Leopard DVD a few time, same result.
Following this I tried booting using Disk Warrior, same result again.
I tried booting both the Snow Leopard and Disk Warrior DVDs in both my upper and lower optical drives, with no change.
I decided to leave the issue and call Apple Support in the morning
    Saturday, May 17, 2014
This morning I woke my Mac Pro from sleep, opened Disk Utility and tried verifying the hard drive to see if it was temporary — same result, 'please insert the Mac OS X install DVD and repair the drive.' — I also tried booting the install DVD again with no result.
I then booted my Mac into Safe Mode to check my hardware.
Upon opening Disk Utility and verifying my Mac HD — the result "Macintosh HD appears to be OK", rand the test again to see if this was an anomaly, but disk returned another pass.
I performed a normal restart of my system, although Finder was a little slower to load than normal, the system booted correctly. — I then launched Disk Utility and verified the Mac HD, it returned another pass.
This confused me, after a call to Apple Support the tech explained that 'sometime a Safe Mode boot will fix problems because it disables all non-essential processes when booting. — That makes sense to me.
    However.
The issue of my Mac not recognizing bootable DVDs remains — it reads disks correctly, it just will not boot them.
Other steps I have taken to try and resolve this remaining issue.
    1. a PRAM reset. — No change.
    2. an SMC reset. — No change.
    3. Removal of newly installed RAM. — I have tried both running the old and new RAM separately, no change using either combination.
    4. Running bootable DVDs in different optical bays. — No change from both bays.
    a. My upper drive is an MCE Blu-Ray/DVD combo drive, but I have booted from this drive before. (Less than six months old.)
    b. My lower drive is LG DVD-RAM combo drive, I have also booted from this drive before. (Over one year old, replacement for an Apple optical drive.)
None of the above steps have helped, I still cannot boot from my optical drives — I always receive a prohibitory sign shortly after the Apple logo.
    Other system information:
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
    8GB of RAM (4 x 2GB)
500GB Western Digital Caviar Blue HDD (less than a year old, boot drive for Mac OS X 10.6.8)
1TB Samsung HDD (for data storage and also containing Bootcamp partition)
2TB HDD (cannot remember manufacturer, contains Time Machine backups, as well as data storage)
ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB of VRAM
Sorry for the long post but I really need to be able to boot from my optical drives.

Update: found an old Mountain Lion installation USB flash drive I created a while back.
I am able to boot from the ML USB flash drive, but am still unable to boot from my either my Snow Leopard Install DVD or my Disk Warrior DVD. — I have verified both DVD and they pass verification tests.
This leads me to believe that the problem resides either in the Mac, or in BOTH  the Snow Leopard and Disk Warrior DVDs.
Since I am able to boot from a USB drive, I will look into the possibility of creating a bootable Snow Leopard drive, and perhaps also a Disk Warrior drive — at least until I can resolve the 'not able to boot from DVD' issue.
