Windows Stored Network Passwords

Hello
Not to sure if this is default behaviour or if there is something I can do to rectify the behaviour. I am running Zenworks 7 sp1 ir3. I am setting up DLU on Windows XP workstations with sp3 installed. I have noticed that the windows stored network passwords are not retained between logins, does anyone have any suggestions for what I could check. I am managing an existing account if it exists and I am not clearing the cache.
Thanks for any advice
Jake

Also make sure this is not eabled. (But I still would like the setting for
credentials.)

  • Windows says network password is incorrect (which is wrong)

I just installed Windows 7 with Bootcamp on a Mac Mini running 10.6 which I think has all recent updates. Yes, I installed the Boot Camp drivers using the setup on the Mac OS install disk. Then I ran both Windows software updates and Apple software updates. I used a wired connection to do these updates.
When I try to connect to my wireless network in Windows I get a message saying the password is wrong. I've checked caplocks and made sure it is the correct password as other (Mac) computers are using the network.
I remember years ago when I connected a Dell to this network (same base station and routers) there was some password difficulty that had to be addressed by typing in some endless alphanumeric code as Windows wasn't happy with my airport netowrk.
    Any suggestions?

So I solved my own problem but I don't really know what the answer is . . .
I had the endless (actually about 20 characters) alphanumeric password in my list of passwords as "WEP code for non-airport computers" so I typed it in and it worked. (The password all the other (Mac) computer use is an 8 digit password.)
I don't remember where I got this number from or what it represents, although I wish I did.  Anyone who can shed light on the origin of this number please do so as I'd like to add this to my list of things I understand. (Edit: my notes say I got it from Airport Admin Utility which I guess doesn't even exist anymore and I can't find any helpful references in Airport Utility or its help)

  • Parallels, Windows Corporate Network and Passwords

    Hi there,
I am one of about 15 people in my company that use our MBP on a windows corporate network. The LAN is secured by username and passwords. We are forced to change our passwords every 3 months or so.
I use mainly my Mac to run most applications. However, there are some applications that run only on Windows and for those, I use Parallels on my Mac to run Windows and connect to those applications.
Since changing my corporate password I am continually being locked out of my corporate account. There might be something somewhere in Parallels or in Windows that is storing my old password and sending that across the network. Then the network locks my account.
If I never boot up Windows, I can run just fine on my Mac with my current password. But as soon as I boot up Windows via Parallels, I get locked out.
Any ideas on where the old password is stored. I've looked through all my keychains on my Mac and all places I could think of on Windows. Or could it be Parallels storing it?
Trouble is, I'm not very familiar with Windows. Need some guidance here.
    Thanks,
    Angie

I had a similar issue with SMB Manager (to connect SMB shares automatically once I log in to the Mac Pro). After looking around I guess I realized everything on the Mac uses the Keychain and once I opened it and got rid of the stored credentials there, all started working fine again. Parallels may store credentials there as well. I would recommend taking a look there.
For the Windows side, you do not mention if the VMs running on parallels are part of a domain or not. If they are, there should be no issue otherwise you will need to change your password on the VMs to match the domain/AD account password (assuming they have the same username).

  • Windows 7 computers asking for network password to access shared files and printers on Windows XP PRO computer.

I have a network of 10 computers configured as peer-to-peer work group. I have upgraded one of the ten from Windows XP PRO to Windows 7 PRO. The other nine computers are all running XP PRO. AS near as I can tell they are all configured the same. I have the
same user and same passwords on all computers. One of XP computers is used as a print server. The Windows 7 computer initially was able to access shared files and printers on all XP machines with out requesting a network password.
Suddenly, the Win 7 computer began requesting a network password to access the shared files and printers on the XP print server. It will not accept any of the user names or passwords (all administrators on both machines with identical names and passwords.)
The Win 7 computer has no problem accessing the shared files on the other XP machines. It can even access shared printers in a different work group. Apparently something has changed but I'm at my wits end trying to figure what changed on either the Windows
7 machine or the print server XP machine.
I would appreciate any help. Thank you

    Hi,
Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following:
    1.
Disable simple file sharing on the Windows XP computer:
How to disable simple file sharing and how to set
permissions on a shared folder in Windows XP
    2.
On the Windows 7 computer, go to “Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings” and ensure that the
    following items are turned ON:
    Network Discovery
    File and printer sharing
    And this one is OFF:
    Password protected sharing
    3.
Temporarily disable or remove all the security software (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.) on the computers and check if it works.
    In addition,
I would like to share the following with you for your reference:
    Troubleshoot file and printer
    sharing
    Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Changing network password...There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request in Windows 8 and 8.1 Enterprise

We currently are running Windows 7 in our enterprise environment. Everything works as expected when the user tries to
change their network password via crtl+alt+del, change a password. We are now testing and trying to deploy Windows 8.1 to a test group and are running into an issue when any AD user tries to change their network password. The user can logon to the
PC just fine when the PC is on the domain, however as soon as they go to change their password they are getting the error "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request". The end result is that the user can not change
their password. We tried this via connected to the dock with a network cable, on corporate wireless, with a Windows 8.1 machine completely patched over with all Microsoft patches, and a Windows 8.1 machine that is not patched and are running into the same
issue. Has anyone ran into this? Is there something that has to be changed on the infrastructure side?

    Hi,
    Please check the following KB:
Error message when you try to log on to a Windows Server 2008-based RODC: "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request"
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949048
To configure the Password Replication Policy for an RODC, a member of the Domain Admins group is required.
By default, RODC's do not cache any user or computer passwords, neither a user or computer will be able to authenticate. You can however specifiy that their passwords be cached either by including a group or specific user in the Password Replication Policy
on the RODC at the remote site.

  • 13 character limit on network passwords in Windows?

We are Mac folks with a wireless airport extreme setup which we love. Our guests, in the guest house out back are trying to connect with a PC.
We have a closed network as we live in a city (SF) where hacking is a hugs issue, so we are trying to add this PC onto our closed wireless network. We got their wireless card number entered, but when the PC guy tries to setup our (closed) network name he is saying he has a limit of 13 characters for a password.
Is that true? If so, do we need to shorten our password in order to allow a PC to join? It's just that there are others connected and they would all have to know the new password.
He was reading the screens to me and I am completely inept at Windows lingo, so we may be in the wrong screen. I think our only other option is to "open" the network, so he can see it on a list of available networks - but even then I believe we'd still have to shorten the password to 13 characters or less?
    thanks so much

I assume that you are using WEP for your wireless encryption...correct?
If so, when non-AirPort clients connect to a AirPort WiFi, secured with WEP encryption, they must be provided with the Equivalent Network Password in order to gain access. That is because when the password for your encrypted AirPort network is transmitted, it is converted to an encryption key that looks different from the plain language in which you typed it. This encryption key is in hexadecimal format (and known as the Equivalent Network Password). AirPort products automatically convert this password from plain language into this hexadecimal format; however, non-AirPort products do not, so you must manually type the hexadecimal version when connecting third-party wireless products to your AirPort Base Station.
Is that true? If so, do we need to shorten our password in order to allow a PC to join? It's just that there are others connected and they would all have to know the new password.
You will save yourself a lot of trouble by switching to WPA encryption. Primarily because it will be the only thing you can do to prevent hijacking of your WiFi network. "Closed network," "MAC filtering," & WEP are all easily circumvented, and, at most, only present a nuisance to would be WiFi hijackers. With WPA, the password used is the same regardless of the platform (PC/Mac) connecting to it. No conversions are necessary.

  • Enter Network Password/Windows Installer

    Hi
We are having problems with Macromedia Contribute 3 and I was wondering if anyone could help.  Please note that I am still in the "infancy stage" of computer literacy so patience is requested!!
First issue - I keep getting the box "enter network password". I try to do so, and it keeps coming back up. CONSTANTLY. I thought until recently that it had to do with our email program, but was informed by my internet provider that it is for our website. How do I make this box go away and STAY away?
Second Issue - When I try to right click on a file or document, I get the box "Windows Installer" and the message "Please wait while windows configures Macromedia Contritbute ". I hit "cancel" and then get "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD ROM or other removable disck that is not available. Insert the Macromedia Contribute 3 disck and click ok" (I do not have this disk). Then I get "error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Macromedia Contricute 3. The Windows Installer cannot continue".
    Can anhone help????

    Hi,
Please try to enable the following security policies to check the result:
    1. Enter “gpedit.msc” in the Start Search box.
    2. Open “Computer Configuration”/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Settings.
    3. In the right pane, enable the following policies:
Network access: Allow anonymous SID/name translation
Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users
Meanwhile, just for test, check the NTML settings:
Click the start button and type secpol.msc in the search function.
Browse to "Local Policies" -> "Security Options".
Now look for the entry "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level" and open it.
Click on the dropdown menu and select "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated".
    Apply the settings.

  • How do I reset the e-printer's web embedded server network password?

I have an HP Photosmart 7520 e-all in one. I use Windows 7.  I could tried to set a password in the EWS network tab. I could not change the user name so it remains "admin". I set the passwork and it seemed ok. But when I tried to log on again, it would not let me in. How do I reset the network password?

I recommend that you run "Restore Network Defaults" from the front panel and then run the wireless setup wizard again.  This will wipe out all your network settings.

  • Network Password Change

First, please bare with me.  First time on here.   Second, though I have many Apple products and I manage my way around them, I am not familiar with computer terms and there is a lot I don't understand.  However, if something is explained clearly, step by step, I am capable of comprehending pretty fast.  If any of you could find the time and LOTS of patience to help me, I would be very happy. FYI I need things explained as if I was 2.
I want to change my Network Password.  The reason I want to change it is because when I launch my AirPort Utility and select my Airport Express; unfamiliar devices are present under Wireless Clients, besides my 7 Apples.  My internet slowed down, things started freezing in the past few months. (been using Apple since 2009, always keep up with maintenance/upgrades, I only use my Apples for browsing, and mostly uploading pictures, my TimeCapsule does her little backup as she should... this is the first time any of my Apples have slowed down/frozen).  Talked to provider, everything is good on their end.  I don't download big files, the heaviest thing that I do is stream movies through AppleTV.  Always worked. No problems.  But in the past few months, all it ever seems to do is "Connecting to iTunes" or "Loading" or "Ready to play in 72 hours and 35 minutes".   I read most of the questions/answers already on here, however, my computer (iMac, Mavericks) does NOT behave according to the examples posted.  So as much as I would like to follow those suggestions, I am not able to.
...so, I select my AirPort Express, and the box that pops up give me the following info: network, IP address, LAN IP address, serial number, version and wireless clients (no idea what some of these mean and honestly if I don't need to know I don't care).  Now, at this point the only option I am given is to click on "Edit".
When I do, I get a different info box.  At the very top I have these: Base Station, Internet, Wireless, Network, AirPlay. Each of these contain tons of information which I don't understand.  ...I just want to change my Network Password. Do I have the option to do JUST that? Without changing the AirPort Express ...something ...base um, password... I don't kn...
    Please help. Thanks.

Click the Wireless tab at the top of the window
Edit out / backspace out the current password (which is displayed as dots)
Type in a new password of at least 8 characters that you want to use
Do the same thing to Verify the password
Click Update in the lower right corner of the window and wait a full minute for the AirPort Express to restart
When you log on to your wireless network, you will be asked for the "new" password that you typed in. It might be a good idea to write down that password and place it in a safe place in case you do not remember it in a few months.

  • Transition from Windows-based network to Linux-based

I am looking to make the switch from a Windows based network to a Linux based one. Currently the network includes a Windows 2003 server which acts as a domain controller and file server, a network shared printer (Canon 2300N) and 7 clients running Windows. Several other Windows-based clients connect remotely via RDP.
I would like to setup a server to act as a domain controller, file server, and (if possible) terminal server. The clients should be authenticated via the server and have access to the files stored on it (via ssh?).
Here are several points that I was wondering about:
All the clients use Outlook, some of the clients run Quickbooks Pro and another program called Tentant File Pro. I was thinking about replacing Outlook with Thunderbird (I contact, calendar, and tasks) and I know that Wine can't run Quickbooks and Tenant File Pro so I may have to use VirtualBox/VMWare because these applications can't be replaced by native Linux versions.
I need an adequate backup solution for the files on the server running as a daily backup.
Should I use webmin to administer the server?
What antivirus / firewall solution should I use for the server and the clients?
How can I allow remote clients the login to the server to be able to run applications (Outlook, Browser, Tenant File Pro, etc.) remotely on the server?
What is the best solution for this? And what would be the least painful way of making the transition for the users?
I know this is a lot, but any feedback would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Probably not Arch if you just want to dump all these questions on the community rather than research it all individually yourself.
Perhaps Turnkey Linux would be suitable to get you up and running:

  • Keep getting a message to enter network password-won't go away.

I don't know if this is a mozilla problem, a windows problem, or a gmail problem. I just know that for the first time today, and in a span of 20 minutes, it has popped up on my screen 60 times. Annoying. I keep putting passwords in it, but none of them work. Top says Enter Network Password. Server smtp.gmail.com. Then User Name which is jennyjank, password, then save this password in your password list. Then it gives me an option to hit OK or Cancel. I keep canceling and closing, but it just keeps coming back. Help, please. Thanks - Jennifer

    Hi jennyjank,
It sounds like there is a persistent network check somewhere. Is this happening only in webmail?
Do you use a firewall or an antivirus that has a filter for gmail smtp servers?
Please also try noscript or ad block plus to detect if there is a script on the page you can stop temporarily until the source is found.
If it a windows operating systems issue try changing this network option mentioned in the answer to the post here: [http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/windows-7-asks-enter-network-password-when/2a8e6d6f-74a1-43c7-8530-24e8522ea955]

Hallo all, I hope one of you people out there can help me. I have a Mac connected to the internet via cable modem, I have just puchased a Laptop running XP. Now heres the tricky part I need two passwords to share my Internet connection One is my network password from my Mac, I have this and its ****** 8 charecters long now my pc wont accept this it wants a 5 or 10 digit WEP password. how do I convert my 8 digit MAC passwod to the 5-10 PC password. Please help My mac is Diying to share with my PC.
Will this resolve the message I get in my PC's "Wireless network Connection" saying limited or no connectivity?
    Kind regards
    Jake.

This won't work regardless of the password.
If you password protect a software base station (a Mac sharing its internet connection via Airport) then a Windows XP client will not be able to connect.
    Two solutions:
    1) Don't use a password (not recommended).
    2) Get a wireless router to share the connection.
