Windows stuck on blue HP Invent screen and won't load desktop items after doing a system recovery

Hello, this is my first time posting here, as I am in desperate mode!  I have a HP Pavillion Slimline s5304y desktop pc, using Windows 7, that I purchased in Feb 2010.
After getting a virus on my computer, I ordered system recovery disks from HP and did the recovery to original factory settings process (twice!), however, during the Windows setup process, it doesn't ever get past the blue HP Invent screen that says:
--Do not turn off your PC during this one-time setup process
--Your PC restarts several times during this setup process
--Messages may pop up onto your screen. Ignore these messages until you are prompted to restart or shutdown your PC
Towards the bottom of the screen it continues to say "Please wait..." with a scrolling green bar. All I see is the windows start buttom in bottom left corner but am not able to access anything and I don't ever get my desktop screen or desktop icons. I have restarted and shut down several times and as soon as I log on to windows, I just get that same blue screen.
The 2nd time I did the recovery process, I let it continue overnight (just in case I wasn't waiting long enough) and my computer never shutdown like it was supposed to when the installation was complete.  Also, I watched the whole process the first time around and my computer never restarted like it said it was supposed to; it just seemed to be stuck during the rest of the windows setup process.  It eventually just went into sleep mode.
I don't have anything else plugged in except the power cord, the monitor and the keyboard/mouse.  I have not installed any new hardware since I purchased the computer.
I did a diagnostics test and everything passed.
I tried to get help from HP Support, but because I'm out of the warranty period, they cannot help me and want to charge me $99!!!
I don't know what else to do at this point. Can someone please help???
Thank you.

Hi,
I would try wiping the entire Hard Drive first and then reinstalling the Operating System as this may get around this issue.
Download and install Killdisk on the link below - ( despite the name, this application will just write zeros to the entire drive leaving it in a similar state to a new Hard Drive ).
http://software.lsoft.net/KillDiskSuiteFree-Setup.exe
Download and install ImgBurn on the link below.
http://download.cnet.com/ImgBurn/3000-2646_4-10847481.html
Go to the Kill Disk application you have installed in All Programs, open the main folder, then select Bootable Disk creators and from that select Bootable DOS CD Creator which will burn the bootable ISO to a blank CD.
During the next process do not worry about any warnings as your Recovery DVDs will reformat the HDD.
Insert this CD in to your PC that is unable to load Operating System properly. Shut the PC down, then start it again to boot from the Killdisk CD and follow the on screen instructions for Kill Disk.
A brief description of the process is here Killdisk.
Use this to wipe the whole of the Hard Drive, highlight (80h) and press f10 ( you will also have to type a confirmation and hit enter ) - ( this will make sure you include all partitions and then start the process - this may take a couple of hours! ).
When the process is complete, remove the Killdisk CD, insert your first HP Recovery Disc and try the installation again.

  • My macbook is stuck on blue screen and won't load

Hi. Ive recently had problems with my computer. It's a white macbook and one day after I woke up it got stuck so I force turned it off. When I tried turning it on it goes to the screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel. After a few minutes it just goes to a blue screen and nothing happens. I have a lot of work on it and I don't want to wipe the computer. Also I've tried almost everything to solve this problem but it doesn't work. Can anyone help me?

You'll have to get your device checked by visiting an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Provider, your problem might be hardware related.
Apple Support can also take care of that:

  • Boots to blue screen and won't load os10

when i turn on my computer, it boots only to a blue screen and no farther.
there is the "whirly gig" things that goes around on the blue screen, but it wont load the OS ..........any helps is appreciated!

I'm in pretty much the same boat...
I left a classroom eMac running a bunch of updates. When I came back and hit the restart button, it goes through the grey screen with the apple and then stops at the blue screen. Sometimes with a cursor in the upper left corner, sometimes with the little spinning gear, sometimes both, sometimes neither.
When I boot verbose mode, it launches loginwindow, then does 2 lines of network startup, then stops. Which makes sense -- because the blue screen is supposed to be showing loginwindow.
    I have already:
-- run fsck when booted into single-user mode. It's clean now, but the first time I did it there were errors that were fixed.
-- run disk utility and repaired permissions. Again, the first time there was repair work to be done, and now it's clean.
    -- zapped the pram.
-- tried to boot in safe mode (by hitting the shift key right after the startup tones and holding it down until the blue screen comes up -- which comes up without the loginwindow in safe mode.)
Is there anything else to try before a reinstall?
This is a lab computer, so I'm not sure whether to do an archive/install, or to do a clean install, run migration assistant from another machine, and then fix the machine name. The one time I tried archive/install I ended up with a machine which it's impossible to install print drivers on. (I keep installing the driver over and over, but it never appears on the list of printers in the add printers panel.)
    thanks for any help!

  • Satellite A100 has a black screen and won't load into the Bios

I bought a Satellite A100 - (model psaa8c-0fh00e) about 5 months ago. it was left on over night which is not uncommon and when i came back to use it about 15 hours later it was just a black screen. moved the touch screen and its keys and nothing happened. so i cold boot it and it turned off. i then turned it back on like normal and the notebook turns on but the screen is completely black. it's not even loading the normal Toshiba Bios screen.
Now my question: is if there is any way I can fix this, i am familar with computer and parts. I just don't get this one cause i've never had to reflash the bois or anything like that. I'm just not sure how to turn and i really don't wanna have to take it into a shop, any suggestions would be helpful.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi Conrad,
If your A100 powers on normally (HDD spinning, optical drive LED flickers, fans turn etc.) then I would suspect that your LCD or FL Inverter has failed. You can check this by connecting an external monitor to the notebook to see if that shows the normal display.
On the other hand if there is no activity at all from tour notebook when you power it on then I would imagine you have an internal hardware fault, possibly the main board, which will need to be checked by a Toshiba Authorised Service Partner since the unit will still be covered by the warranty if it is only 5 months old.

  • Apple symbol turns to block on boot screen and won't load past the screen

-This new problem has occured when I boot my G4 MDD.
-The Apple symbol appears on the screen and the loader at the bottom
    continues to spin.
-Until a gray block appears in place of the Apple logo.
I can hear the computer still reving up until a certain point then it
seems to give up and the computer stays idle for however long I keep
    the cpu on.
I reset the pram and held it for seven times and it worked but, when I
came home later after leaving it on, the tower shut down.
Again the gray block appeared and reseting the pram didn't do a thing.
I couldn't even get DiskWarrior to boot or the cpu to boot into single
user mode or verbose. I even tested each one of the rams to see if that could be the problem.
I'm pretty baffled and I hope this isn't a major problem, it seems it
might be just the hard drive going batty.
    Thanks for any advice.

    Hi! "it seems it
might be just the hard drive going batty." Sounds like you already know what the problem probably is. Tom

  • Ipod touch is stuck on connect to iTunes screen and won't restore settings.

So, I'll start from the beginning.
I wanted to update my twitter app, so i installed it but it took ages and so i pressed the home button and the top button at the same time. Then the apple logo appeared for over 30 minutes. The screen then went white and the 'connect to iTunes' screan appeared.
After connecting it to iTunes a box appeared saying iyune has detecehed an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod beofre it can be used with itunes. OS 5.0.1 Software Update So when i try to restore it the normal box comes up saying everything will be deleted. So i click ok, and another box comes up with iOS 5.0.1 Software Update. As i try to go through with this update when there are 8 minutes left to it my iPod automatically disconnectes itself and this message comes up again about the ipod is in recovery mode (above)
And now i dont know what to do as i cannot restore my ipod from my ipod or from my computer? I have tried re-starting it and i have the latest version of itunes.
    Please help:)

It was yesterday, when it was low battery. But I was in the car, so I had to wait to get into the house to be able to charge it. Without noticing, that when it never opened.
Although this already happened before, and all I had to do was, to press the home button and the top button together, and then press the volume key and the top bottom.
    BUT. The thing is, my home button is broken. D;
I was thinking of resetting it, or something, in the computer, but I can't, due to the iTouch being off, iTouch won't appear in my laptop).
Please help me, there are very meaningful things to me in that iTouch.

  • HP w1907 : Powering-up gets stuck at blue "HP invent" Boot Screen

    Hello all,
I've HP w1907 desktop... I am using it since 2008.
Last month I've format it to have new windows 7 Ultimate in it... Previously also I was using win7 Ultimate.
But it was keep restarting after the use of 4-5 minutes and so I've installed the OS all over again.
It was working fine... after 3-4 weeks, when I started it, it gets stuck at blue "HP invent" Boot Screen.
This screen has the instructions for entering the "Boot Menu", "Setup", and "System Recovery" by pressing the "Esc", "F10", aor "F11" key.  It just sits there forever.
If I try to enter the "Boot Menu"by pressing the "Esc" key, I get a message "Loading Boot Menu.....", but then it just hangs there forever.  If I try to enter the  "Setup Menu" I get a similar result - it says "Entering Setup...", and just hangs there.  Pressing the "F11" key doesn't seem to do anything.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
By searching forums I've tried resetting the BIOS - which I've got from here :

    Please help me...
    I am in hurry...
    Thank you.

    Hello Sir,
    You was right...
    The CMOS Battery was discharged!
I've replaced it ... and the date and time problem has been solved...
And you was right again by saying that it should not cause the problem while start up...
So the second problem (Major Problem) was CD Writer !!!
(I've changed the location of the PC last 3-4 weeks ago!!)
may be the it has grabbed the hardware of CD Writer..
And as the hardware of CD Writer was not working as per the expectation the BIOS may have got stuck...
And so it was unable to enter in Boot or Setup menu !!
I've removed the data and supply cord of CD Writer... PC is working good now...
I am thankful to you sir.. for your thourough help..
Without you it may not happened
Now I am going to repair the CD Writer by opening it tomorrow..
Any help from you will be great help to me and its really appriciable..
    God Bless You...
    Thanks for your valuable time.

When I press Esc, it will state "Entering boot menu...", but will stop there, no matter how long you wait or how long you hold the button. Have you tried removing the memory modules and placing one module in the slot closest to the CPU and then powering up to boo into Windows?
If no joy the first time then pull the module you tested and replace it with the other memory module.
If that produced no positive results then consider clearing the CMOS.
This must be done with the power cord unplugged for your personal safety.
Follow the instruction on this motherboard specification web document. look towards the bottom for instructions and images regarding CMOS clearing. When you do this remove the CMOS battery while you are clearing the CMOS and press the poer button and hold it for a couple of seconds.
    Please post your results.

  • Mac Pro gets stuck on the grey screen and won't finish booting

I have a Mac Pro 1, 1 recently (successfully) upgraded to snow leopard that gets stuck on the grey screen with the spinning rainbow cursor (after the apple logo and brief blue screen) and won't finish booting up. This happened after my computer froze up and I had to force quit.  I checked out the forums and I tried all the all the suggestions (like disconnecting peripherals) and appropriate disk utilities, saw no errors with the HD reported, and had no trouble doing a safe boot  (everything works o.k. there) or starting up from the software disk to perform the repairs.  I did notice that during the repair permissions command, it gets stuck in the last few minutes, the CD starts to chug along, and everything freezes and I have to force quit.  This happens every time I try it.  I eventually backed everything up, erased the HD and reinstalled the OS, reset PRAM and NVRAM, but I'm still getting the grey screen on restart.  Tech tool deluxe reports a "fail" on the video RAM, but everything else seems to check out.  Could it be a graphics card issue?   I did notice some funky visual glitches occurring prior to the breakdown.  Any other ideas?

I wouldn't trust Apple Disk Utility to do a hard drive repair, but I would go with TechTool Pro 5/6 if you have that instead of Disk Warrior from Alsoft.
Clone the drive, though you should have some bootable backup clones already; repair the clone; then boot and work from that drive. Always have a working copy of the system.
And off load all your data to other drives.
