Windows Swap For CS5 to Mac Leopard Operating System
I have been running cs5 on an imac 27 with parallels in Windows 7. It has been cumbersome.
So, I ordered cs5 as part of the adobe swap program so that I could run it exclusively on the mac platform. I no longer need to use Windows.
The problem is that the CS5 photo or workspace window does not appear on the screen only the navigation bar. No photos can be imported from anywhere.
I spent two hours online chatting with customer service to verify the procedure for the swap, but still the new adobe cs5 does not function.
Lightroom 64 runs perfectly on the mac.
Any ideas?

Can you elaborate? What happens when you launch Photoshop: Do you get an error message?
Or is it just that you are used to the Windows way of showing the workspace? On the Mac, you don't see a "workspace", only the open document window when you actually have an open document. All Mac programs do this. If this is your "problem", and if you prefer the Windoze way, just go to the Window menu in Photoshop and turn on the "Application Frame".

Is anyone else having a problem with photoshop7 and new snow leopard operating system?
Recently purchased new imac with snow leopard operating system. Installed photoshop 7 successfully (it said anyway) but when I try to open get error message stating "an unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred because of a program error. Photoshop will now exit." Help!

It is the standard at Apple... the latest build of the current OS is what goes on the new machines, and the Motherboards, Chipsets, & BIOS (not the right term for it with Mac, I know) are "hard written" to accept that OS as the absolute minimum, and nothing older (or lower as some call it).
So, since the latest machines are coming preloaded with Snow Leopard (10.6.2) that, and subsequent newer builds of OS 10.6 and up is all they can be loaded with.
This is nothing new. It's industry wide in both Mac and PC. Just try to put XP on a brand new Dell, HP, or Gateway PC. Without flashing the BIOS and taking a "more likely than not" chance of rendering most of your hardware undetectable, it just ain't gonna happen.
Conversely, just as Snow Leopard won't run on a PPC powered Mac, Vista and 7 may install, or appear to, on a single core, older PC, but the first time you install and try to open anything other than the OS itself, you're in for a world of problems.
People have tried to fight this for years. In 2005 Mac users went out of their minds when Apple dropped support for OS 9. A year later, it was Windows 98 users freaking out over their beloved OS being "sunsetted". I was skeptical of the move to Intel processors when I first heard about it, having become a full time Mac user, and being partial to AMD before that. But like Motorola PPC processors, AMDs run hot and heat is the enemy. The new machines run faster, cooler, and do more for less money.
It's a major pain for people who don't have the budget for a new Mac (or PC) and still have old software that is perfectly functional, but they are finding more and more incompatibility as they interact with other people and newer systems. Sooner or later though, technology wins and everyone has to either upgrade or drop out. Fighting it is futile. I will always remember the day last Summer when I stopped at a traffic light and next to me was an older, redneck looking fellow in a new brand spanking new Honda Accord. It may have even been a hybrid, I don't know, but duct taped on his dash was what had to be a thirty-five year-old 8-track player with a bunch of wires coming out of the back, also taped to the dash, and running to a pair of 6 x 9 speakers, which were just laying on the dash (no duct tape). I had to wonder why he bothered to buy the latest in automotive technology and yet he was stuck in a time warp for his stereo. Don't Hondas come with some pretty decent CD stereo units? And where can you find 8 track tapes anymore? -
Can anyone offer some advice i am looking to upgrade the OS system on one of my macbook pro's, currently running os10.4.11, I would like to upgrade to OS10.5? how would I go about this, and is there a cost, for what is an old operating system now?
Since your Mac probably came with 10.4, there is no longer a way to get 10.5 Leopard install media. IF it has the requirements, you may be able to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard by buying the boxed install media at the Apple Store for $30.

HELP!!!! My Hotmail no longer works with Safari v. 5.0.6 and my Imac Leopard operating system 10.5.8. Please help me with any suggestions on what to do. Thank you. I cannot find any new downloads for Safari that work with Leopard. The newest ones only work with Lion. My Firefox browser still works though but I would rather use Safari and cannot access any e-mails or send any e-mails via Safari. This happened about 3 weeks ago and I thought it was just a glitch on Hotmail's site. Now I realize Hotmail must have released an update that no longer works with Leopard 10.5.8. PLEASE HELP ME!!!! You can also set it up in Mail so you don't need a browser at all if you want. -
I bought a pdf book last year and had no problem reading it for a few months then all of a sudden I could no longer open it and to this day. Any other pdf download off internet I can still open and read, except for that particular book. Operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium, Adobe Reader XI 11.0.07. When trying to open file I get msg "You did'nt login or your session has expired. Please log in to read this document for the first time". (Like I said I have read it before). So I log in but that prompts me to give the name of the file I want to export or convert to Word or something else, which is not what I want to do of course. I have not purchased any service from Adobe or Acrobat as I only need to read. Thanks for your help..

Can I use a mac pro operating system disk to upgrade a macbook

No. The gray-colored restore DVDs provided with a Mac are not the retail OS version. They contain only the drivers applicable for the purchased hardware, and the installer has a function to verify the hardware is of the type the disk was created for. If you attempt to use the Mac Pro restore disk on a different model Mac, it will simply refuse to install.

Can i have both Linux, Windows, and Leopard operating systems on my mac
Can i use Bootcamp to have a Leopard OS, a Linux OS, and a Windows OS partitioned on my single Macbook?
For Linux I much prefer having it under VMware Fusion because MacOS doesn't support ext3 and Linux doesn't support writing HFS, making it hard to share data between the two otherwise. The latest version of VMware Tools supports cut and paste between Linux and MacOS (last version of Parallels I used did not have ability to do cut and paste between Linux and MacOS and ran much slower with Linux) and Linux runs at pretty much full speed other than graphics (but I'm not running Linux for graphics, I'm running Linux for software development). Note that setting up your home directory (or a subdirectory thereof) as an NFS share, then mounting that within your Linux virtual machine, results in faster throughput than trying to do everything on the VMware virtual disk, all that lives on my VMware virtual disk is the actual operating system (I have my home directory mounted to a directory on my Mac where my source code lives). I usually use Aquamacs and p4v on the Mac side to actually edit and do source control on my source code, then pop down to the Linux window to compile it and do an initial smoke test to ensure that my fix actually fixed what I think it's supposed to fix, then pop back up to the Mac Finder to drag the result over to the open Finder window for the Engineering Test CIFS share on our corporate file server from whence the actual QA test systems in the lab can grab it and test it. It's a cool way to do Linux software development . Especially since I must develop for both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms for multiple distributions of Linux, and VMware lets me fire up a couple of them at a time (why I have 8GB of RAM? Now you know!) to do all this in a sort of overlapping manner.
For Windows... meh. I've used both the latest Parallels and the latest VMware with Windows 7, and both of them are sluggish even after you turn off all the various GUI effects under Performance and Accessibility and if you don't give at least 2GB of memory to the virtualized Windows 7 it gets really slow if you try to do anything sizable at all (such as run Microsoft Office to edit things that for some reason don't edit correctly in OpenOffice/NeoOffice). So Boot Camp it is, especially for playing games, which simply is not acceptable at all under virtualized Windows 7. Oddly enough, Windows XP runs acceptably fast under both Parallels and VMware, so I'm not sure what Windows 7 is doing that makes it work so poorly under virtualization. But that's Microsoft for ya, I guess... -
Build error on using environment variable for CS5 on Mac
I have created a sample project using dollyx on Mac for CS5 . I have used an environment variable and defined it in Source tree of XCode preferences.
I am using snow leapard and my XCode version is 3.2.2 .
I have defined variable as IDSDK7 for /idsdk7 (which is my SDK directory). I am creating project outside SDK . While creating project with DollyX , I am giving SDK's path as $(IDSDK7) which is absolute path and not relative with respect to the project .

The hard drive for my MacBook Pro recently crashed. I purchased and installed a new hard drive (i.e. a Samsung SSD). When I try to re-install the Mac operating system, I come to the part of the installation instructions where you are asked to choose a disk to install the software. However, there is no disk listed in the selection screen. Why is there no disk in the selection screen?

You haven't formatted the SSD, so you can't install Mac OS X.
First, close the OS X installer and open Disk Utility. Then, choose the SSD at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab, choose "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as "Format", and press Erase. Finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X. See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html -
My Mac's operating system no longer compatible with my Deskjet 3050A
Hi,
I haven't used my printer in a while because it hasn't been working. But I'm tired of running to my neighborhood FedEx Office so am tackling this issue today.
I went to install the HP software on my MacBook Air and was told "installer not compatible with the version of the operating system on your computer. It is compatible only with 10.6 and below."
My Mac is running OSX, version 10.9.5. Is there anyway to make the printer compatible?

A full feature driver for Mavericks is not available for your printer, either from the CD that shipped with your printer or from the HP website. This document applies to HP printers supported in Mac OS X versions 10.6 (Snow Leopard), 10.7 (Lion), 10.8 (Mountain Lion), 10.9 (Mavericks), and 10.10 (Yosemite) that only have drivers available through Apple Software Update.
If you would like, I can help you put the printer on your wireless network without software. I use this method for iPads, iPhones and other devices that do not have software.
Restore the network defaults on the printer by pushing the wireless button, going to settings, and then restore defaults. The wireless button should then start flashing, this means it is now in autowireless mode.
Connect to the network that the printer is broadcasting. It is usually HP-setup-3050a and then part of the MAC address. The wireless light will still be flashing on the printer at this point, this is normal since this is not an actual adhoc connection.
Load up the Embedded Web Server (EWS) in the browser on your mobile device. The default IP for autowireless is 192.168.223.1.
Go to the network tab along the top of the EWS.
Click on Wireless Setup Wizard along the lefthand side to begin configuring the printer.
You have now completed the Wireless configuration, follow the next 3 steps to start printing.
The blue wireless light will go solid, put the Mac back on your own network.
Add the printer to the System Preferences.
Print

How do I get to normal screen from blue screen on iMac with snow leopard operating system
My iMac boots w white screen and then goes to a blue screen with no icons. I have snow leopard as operating system. I have held command key and r but can't get the repair menu. I have unplugged and tried to reboot. I have checked plugs for keyboard and mouse. Tried to reboot w snow leopard disk. Didn't work. Now can't get disk to eject. System is working because can still use wireless. Any ideas?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
