Windows Time Running fast, cant seem to slow it down again.

For some odd reason my system time has started to run fast, about 5sec to fast every minute. Started some days ago, and Iv tried lots of things, even did a fresh Windows SP2 Install.
Read some place on the web that it might be the bios battery thats bad, so I changed that but without any luck.
Iv checked that nothing else is interfering with the RPC IRQ 8.
Iv checked the bios clock and theres nothing wrong, its when it inters windows XP things starte to go wrong.
Iv tried to underclock my cpu, that didnt change anything either.
Im running out of ideas here, hope theres some one out there that might be able to help me, because it annoys the hell out of me.
Thanks in advance
Looking forward to your reply's

Great description!
After a BIOS update APIC - the interrupt control - is taken over by BIOS. It should normally be handled by Windows. Windows does a lot of its system managing through this, to make priorities etc.
Updating BIOS is necessary only when a problem is said to be fixed this way, and it is recommended to do a repair reinstall of Windows afterwards. Maybe other things and question marks will straighten out as well.
One should not update BIOS as one would update the antivirus program, as often as possible.

  • Would like Windows to run faster so...

I would like the program I use with Windows on my Mac to run faster. I am running Windows through Fusion. Here are the specs for my macbook:
Processor: 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
What can I do to make it faster? What do I need to buy and can a Genius from Apple do it for me?
    Thanks much

Personally, I would use Crucial's Web site help or another RAM reseller online that will help you to choose the correct chips. You're going to need two 2GB chips of "PC2-5300" DDR2 RAM. While Apple does use standard parts that might be used in any model computer, I would recommend buying RAM from a place that specifically says it will work in your MacBook. I always visit ramseeker.com to find the best prices.
I've bought RAM from both Crucial and Data Memory Systems, they're both reliable resellers with reasonable prices. You'll almost always pay more from a brick-and-mortar store in your neighborhood.
Of course, you can always walk into an Apple retail store and they'll sell you RAM directly (and install it for you). However, checking online show prices around $100 for your upgrade and Apple charges $400 for the same upgrade.

ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Query runs fast in DB but slow in OBIEE

    Hello guys
I am running some reports on the dashboard, which takes forever to come up. I capture the generated SQL and ran it in Toad, it would take only less than 2 mins to return the data.
What area of OBIEE configuration should I check to see what's happening?
    Much thanks

Thanks.. Let me show you the query I am executing:
    select T1011554.PECODE as c1,
    T1011581.DATE as c2,
    T1011581.DAYOFWEEK as c3
    from
    RD_TOT.TRANSACTIONTYPE T1011554 /*Transaction */ ,
    RD_TOT.V_FACTS_SNAPSHOT_12 T1011580 /* Facts */ ,
    RD_TOT.DATES T1011581 /* Date */
    where ( T1011554.TRANSACTIONTYPEID = T1011580.TRANSACTIONTYPEID and T1011554.TRANSACTIONTYPECODE = '2' and T1011581.DAYOFWEEK = 'Monday' and T1011580.DOCUMENTCOMPANY = T1011581.COMPANYNUMBER and T1011580.SNAPSHOTDATE = T1011581.DATES and T1011581.DATES < TO_DATE('2009-10-28' , 'YYYY-MM-DD') )
When I run this query in Toad, it takes less than 30s to return, but from OBIEE, it's taking forever.. I am using Oracle 10g as DB... I am sure there are a lot of rows being fetched, because using the result I am getting in toad, if I do a record count, that process will take forever again..
There might be some configuration setup I need to do in OBIEE or config file. This is just my feelings, but I'd like to hear any of your thoughts and suggestions..
    Much appreciated!
    Thanks

  • Why KDE programs run faster on KDE and slower on GNOME?

    Hello, I have a doubt:
When I run KDE programs on gnome (kaffeine, amarok... in general programs that uses the kdelibs), they take 4 or 5 seconds aproximately to run, and in KDE, they run in only 1 second. But gnome programs run on KDE and GNOME at the same speed.
What's the reason for this difference?
    Greetings

And what programs I need to run if I want to preload all the services for KDE in gnome? Only kdeinit? or there are more programs?

  • Too much RAM in my iMac slowing iit down?

I've scoured the internet for an answer to this problem and found nohing. So here goes...
    Hardware
    24" iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz (Early 2008 - iMa8,1) 8Gb's Ram
    OS 10.6.5
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1759 Apple states that the maximum amount of RAM I can install is 4Gb (2 in each slot), that is what I had installed until yesterday.
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac-core-2-duo-3.06-24-inch-al uminum-early-2008-penryn-specs.html"] Everymac's website states Apple officially supports 4 GB of RAM, but third-parties have been able to upgrade the system to 6 GB of RAM using one 2 GB and one 4 GB memory module.
So I took the risk and purchased 2 sticks of 4Gb from Crucial http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT51264AC800. In System Profiler 8Gbs is recognised and in Activity monitor, the Mac works fine for about 10 minutes with loads of apps open and has loads of free Ram and then everything starts getting sluggish, spinning beachball, non responsive mouse clicks.
I've tested both 4Gb sticks individually and they seem to work fine on their own(that's how I've got it running now).
Has anyone else out there tested 8Gb in this model, or has anyone an answer as to why 8Gb shows up in the system but seems to slow it down, but apparently if I put in 4 + 2Gb sticks it should work?
    Thanks
    Message was edited by: Sbellcheck

Theoretically couldn't Apple update the firmware on the iMac to utilise the 8GBs?
    It's not a firmware issue it's hardware.

  • Open/Save as etc Popup windows don't stay open! just close down again

    Hey all
Ive got a problem on my Macbook Pro, Installed Leopard, and now in most programs whenever I try to bring up the open window or save as etc windows they appear for a second and then closes down again like I have made a selection!
    Its really annoying me!
    Any Ideas

Thanks. But I always have the List View.
One lame thing worked though. I would hit the command short cut and keep hitting it for a few times. This forces the command window to stay open, and it actually helps getting ridding of the problem temporarily.
I also had a similar but nastier problem in Acrobat. I tried to save a Photoshop PDF file in Acrobat, the Save As window opened and closed right away. Then all the command menus went gray; non of the commands was available including Quit. The only option I had was to force quit Acrobat. However, I didn't have this problem when handling native Acrobat files. The good news is that my lame solution worked.

  • ITunes 7 is slowing everything down

I have read about other problems with iTunes 7 - but all my programs on my mac seems to slow way down when iTunes 7 is open.
    - iTunes radio stalls A LOT (even more than before)
    - firefox is slowed while iTunes 7 is open
    - the whole computer slows down while iTunes 7 is open
Is there anyway to downgrade until these problems are fixed? Or anything I can do?

I get this too. Any ideas on what we are suppose to do? It's really frustrating me!

My Mac Mini, which I bought last December 2011, seems to have slowed a bit.  Is there something I can do to tune it up to get it to run faster?

    Hi Annie,
Hello, see how many of these you can answer...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • My iMac seems to be running slower lately. Is there anyway to make it run faster?

My iMac seems to be running slower than when I first bought it. Is there something I can do to make it running faster? Also can anyone recommend a good antivirus software for Mac. Thanks.

The best antivirus application is none at all, keep OS X up-to-date and educate yourself about Malware by reading Viruses, Trojans and Malware - Prevention and removal: Apple Support Communities.
In order to speed up your iMac we need to know some basics about it first such as what version of OS X is installed, exactly which iMac you own, how much RAM it has, what size is the HD and how much free space on the HD. Without those fundamentals we would only be guessing.
