Windows To Go Bitlocker Kingston Workspace Disk not Initialized.

When I go the Disk Management I can see the disk there but it's not initialized and when I get prompted to initialize it and I hit OK (keeping MBR as the default option) and I get the error:
The device is not ready
Now when I connect it as external drive I get "Genesys USB3/SATA Bridge USB  Device" .
I cannot recover my files. Please HELP!

Hi,
You can perform the following steps:
Run diskpart command with administrator
1. diskpart> list volume(find the volume you want to clear hidden)
2. diskpart> select volumeNUMBER(please adjust the NUMBER accordingly)
3. diskpart> attributes volume clear hidden

  • Recovery disks not initiating

Hello all! Hope someone can help. I'm trying to do a system recovery. I have made my recovery disks, I just can't get the recovery to start up. When I choose "System Recovery" from the recovery manager, the computer will restart windows normally, and not start the recovery. I have the first recovery disk in the dvd drive as it's restarting. I've also tried the F11 key (after which the bottom of the screen reads "...F11 System Recovery") after start up to initiate the system recovery but again, the computer just loads windows normally I've even gone into the BIOS and edited the boot options to set the disk drive as the first place to boot windows from. Nothing is working.

    Hi:
Do you have some other bootable disk you can test in your notebook to make sure it isn't the notebook, or can you put your bootable disk 1 of your recovery disk set into another PC and see if it boots from that?
The first thing to do is to find out if the recovery disk set you made is bad, or the notebook has a hardware issue.
My money is on the recovery disk set you made is no good.

    Hi,
I tried your vi: I don't get any error message after removing the disk but LV7 keeps on accessing the drive at regular intervals even if you stop the vi and close it!!! This is not supposed to happen.
The only way to stop it is exit LV7.
If you don't use the file dialog and you wire a full path, you don't get any problem.
I also created a very simple vi that conditionally writes a text file on a: and I got the same behaviour.
This problem occurs only with LV7, I tried the same examples in LV6.1 and everything was fine.
If anybody wants to try I attach this simple example,

  • RAID disk not detected by Windows XP

I have installed a single disk connected to the RAID controller on my K7T266 Pro2-R Mobo.
The RAID controller (that is enabled in BIOS) detects the disk, reports a correct size and reports it as "Functional". I have used the BIOS utility to assign an "Array" to the single disk drive.
I downloaded the latest drivers from this site and I have installed the drivers in Windows XP Pro (a number of times...)  In the Device Manager, I get a "Windows XP Promise FastTrak100(tm) Controller(PDC20265)" under the "SCSI and RAID controllers" folder. The driver seems to work (at least the Device Manager claims "This device is working properly.")
The disk itself does not show up under the "Disk drives" folder in the Device Manager.  The "Disk Management" in Windows XP also treats the disk as non-existent.
When I tried to install the "FastCheck Monitoring Utility", I got error messages "Service Install - Unknown Error". When trying to run the utility, it says "FastTrak controller or driver not found".
The event log says nothing of interrest.
I use the FastTrak PCI version in another system running Windows 2003 Server and there everything works OK. But that driver is almost a year newer...
What's wrong?  Has anybody got the on-board FastTrak controler to work in WinXP? Any hints on what to do to make it work?

I just happened ( ) to have a second identical disk drive laying around (Christmas time you know...) so I installed it in the system.  If the driver has any "single disk restrictions", it should work now - shouldn't it?
The BIOS RAID setup happilly discovered the new disk and I configured the two disks as a stripe set.
Windows XP?  Nothing.  The disks simply doesn't exist. There must be something wrong with the WinXP driver, but I can't figure out what.  I've scanned the Internet and there seems to be a number of people having the same problem, but I haven't found anyone that have a solution.
MSI? Promise? We have a problem here...

Well if there is a EFI block, then running a program in OS X isn't going to do a lick of good.
After all EFI was designed for Trusted Computing and Digital Rights Management, to act between the OS and hardware, can read drives, contact the Internet and everything.
Windows doesn't use EFI, will have UEFI in Windows 8 though.

  • Windows 8.1 BitLocker Full Disk Encryption

    Hello all,
I recently purchased a Samsung SSD 840EV that supports Encrypted Drive (eDrive) hardware encryption.  I followed the Samsung directions on enabling eDrive by doing a secure erase and a fresh Windows 8.1 install with UEFI BIOS enabled.  The Samsung
software sees that eDrive is enabled.  I turned on BitLocker which successfully encrypts the drive.  In order to verify that the drive is encrypted and also to have a contingency plan, I removed the drive and connected it to another computer via
USB.  When I do this, I can't access any data on the drive, the file system shows as RAW, and if I try to explore the drive I get "Data error: Cyclical Redundancy Check".  I've also tried using command line tools to unlock the drive and
opened the BitLocker management on the PC to see if I could see and unlock the drive in there, but I don't.  I know the drive is good and I can remove it and put it back in the laptop and boot back into Windows just fine.
I used the same drive on Windows 7 which does not support eDrive and therefore could only use software encryption with BitLocker.  In this scenario, I could pull the drive and attach it to another computer and then windows would prompt me for my recovery
key and allow me to access it.
At this point I am wondering if because the new drive uses eDrive, it is not possible to access it from another computer.  However, this doesn't really make sense because if my computer got hosed then there should be SOME way to recover the data from
another machine.  And again, this worked fine with the same drive and Windows 7/software BitLocker encryption.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi,
About your confusion, I think it would be better to consult with eDrive support to check if this problem caused by eDrive.

  • MSI B85M-G43 can't install Windows 7. Hard disk not detected.

    Hi,
I just built a new computer for the first time.  I followed the instructions and did everything correctly. but am unable to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Hard disk isn't always detected during the installation.
But when it appeared in the "Where do you want to install Windows" list along with system, I tried to format the hard disk and got a message "Failed to format the select partition. [Error 0x80070057]."
Then I restarted the computer, the hard disk no longer displayed in the list, so I put motherboard driver disc and clicked on Load Driver and opened Storage\Intel\PCH_12.0\f6flpy-x64. It loaded, then I got a message saying "To continue installation, use the Load Driver option to install 32-bit and signed 64-bit drivers. Installing an unsigned 64-bit device driver is not supported and might result in an unusable Windows installation."
I restarted again and disabled Driver Signature Enforcement, but it didn't help. I still got the same message.
In the computer case I have these devices:
    - MSI B85M-G43, Socket-1150
    - Intel Core i5-4430 Processor
    - Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 8GB
    - MSI GeForce GTX 650Ti BOOST 1GB
    - Cooler Master GX 550W PSU
    - WD Desktop Green 1TB
    - SuperMulti 16X DVD(+/-)R/RW 12X RAM (+/-)R DL LightScribe SATA drive
Everything is plugged in correctly. Hard disk connector plugged in SATA 1 and DVD -> SATA 2.
The installation is pretty slow, regardless if i install it via USB or x16 DVD. All except DVD and hard disk are disabled. It's also worth to mention that even DVD and USB aren't always detected in the click BIOS.
So I'm wondering if anyone here can help me? Thanks

    Hi and
1: What BIOS version you have? .. Have you tryed to downgrade/upgrade it already?
2: Have you tryed it in those SATA 2 ports? ...is it same strory?
    - On SATA there aint any master or Slave like on IDE so if you are under same controller it dosent mutter what port you use on what device.
Note: SATA 3 Ports are faster then SATA2 ports, but even SATA 1 can handel your DVD or HDD. So no lose if you need to use SATA 2 ports.
Hope this get you foward! Cheers Mummy

  • Boot device not found. "Hard disk not exist". windows not booting

    Product: HP G72-110SA
    OS: Win7
two days ago, I was installing updates on my computer and when it was about to restart, it froze. After waiting for 10 minutes, I had to turn it off by pressing the off button. From then on, the computer turns on but shows a message "Boot device not found".
I have tried all the BIOS tests that I could find on the net for the hard disk, eg: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01443465&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=uk&dlc=en&la...
This gives me a "Hard disk not exist" error. I tried resetting the BIOS, that didn't work. I tried taking out and putting back in the battery, the memory and the hard disk. Still no luck.
I then booted ubuntu from cd on the computer. It works just fine, including the internet etc EXCEPT the HDD is still not detected.
I had some pretty important stuff and no back up, so would appreciate if someone can help me get back the data. If not, even if I know its just a HDD failure and not a motherboard/BIOS problem, it will be a relief as its probably fixable.
    Thanks

    Hi there ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions. I would be happy to assist you. As there are many models of HP Notebooks, I would need the model number. (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?) When I went to www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup, it gave me documentation and troubleshooting steps to follow. One of the documents it provided is called Hard Disk Error Displays before the Computer Starts. NOTE: I recommend at this point you make an immediate backup of all important data and files. Here are instructions on how to Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8). Please follow the troubleshooting steps provided, re-post with the results of the troubleshooting in detail. Thank you.

  • Bootcamp will not load Windows installer - No bootable device, insert disk then press any key

Hello, I recently decided to install bootcamp onto my 2009 27" iMac, I have done this before for other people's computers and I thought it would be no different for my own. However, on attempt to install the Windows disk, instead of starting the installer it only gives me an error message saying No bootable device, insert boot disk then press any key. I have tried ejecting the disk and then putting it back into my disk driver but it still seems to give me the same error. I went back into my Mac using Alt(option) key on startup and then set the startup disk as the Windows installer disk but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I also tried booting the disk directly from the startup disk menu is the alt(option) key on startup but that didn't do anything different either.
    Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Also if it helps my computer is a
    2009 27" iMac running OSX 10.8.4
And my disk drive is an external drive because my internal SuperDrive went out.

That last point is your problem, Boot Camp doesn't really like booting from external drives.
You will have to do the following (assuming Boot Camp already partitioned your hard disk):
    1. Use Disk Utility to make a CD/DVD Master of the Windows Install Disc.
    2. Rename the resulting *.cdr file so it has an *.iso extension.
    3. Insert a USB Flash Drive (8GB or more) into a USB port and start Boot Camp Assistant.
    4. Make sure only "Create a Windows 7 or later version install disk" is checked.
    5. Follow the directions, selecting the USB Flash Drive as the destination, and the *.iso as the source.
You should now be able to boot from and install Windows from the USB Flash Drive. It's annoying, but I had to do that.
You will need a second flash drive of 1GB or more, or 700MB or more extra space on the install disk to place the boot camp support files, which will need to be installed.

  • R&R won't install on Windows 7 with BitLocker

    Hi all,
I am trying to install the latest version of R&R (v4.3) on my T400 that is running Windows 7 64 bits. In my setup, I have 3 partitions (C, D and E) and have BitLocker enabled for C and E.
While trying to install, I got the warning message to suspend or remove BitLocker encryption before I'm allowed to continue. I followed the instructions to suspend BitLocker in C and restarted the installation. However, I'm again prompted with the same warning message as before.
I just want to check if this is a bug with the installer (since I've already suspended BitLocker in C) or do I really have to remove BitLocker from both C and E partitions (which I really hate to as its really time consuming).
    Any advice is much appreciated.

    Hi,
Maybe too muh info, but really usefull for your situation:
To achieve compatibility with BitLocker Drive Encryption, it is recommended to
install the Rescue and Recovery program to your operating system after the
partitions are properly set up with the Microsoft Bitlocker Drive Preparation Tool.
When setting up the BitLocker partition, it is recommended to use the Microsoft
BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool. The boot partition should be at least 2 GB in
    size.
If you do not use the BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool to prepare the BitLocker
partition, you must have two partitions on your system when installing Windows
=> One partition should be 2 GB and marked as active; this is where the boot files
    reside.
=> The other is where your operating system is installed and where your data
will reside. When Windows 7 is installed, it will detect the two partitions and
should install only the boot files to the smaller partition. Both partitions should be
    type 0x07.
    Compatibility with BitLocker without TPM
If the security chip (TPM) is not activated in the BIOS Setup Utility, to achieve
compatibility with BitLocker without TPM, do the following:
    1. Run gpedit.msc from the Start menu. The Group Policy Editor window opens.
    2. Click Computer Configuration → Windows Components → BitLocker Drive
    Encryption → Operating System Drives.
    3. Enable the Require additional authentication at startup option
    4. Select the option Allow BitLocker without a compatible TPM.
Best practice of BitLocker encryption on a system with the
    Rescue and Recovery program
To have the Rescue and Recovery program work correctly with BitLocker in
    Windows 7:
    1. Uninstall the Rescue and Recovery program if it has been installed.
    2. Restart the computer and use the BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool to prepare
the system for BitLocker Drive Encryption.
    3. Install the Rescue and Recovery program and restart the computer.
    4. Start BitLocker from Control Panel and choose the partition to encrypt.
Note: It is recommended to encrypt the Windows operating system partition
    (usually drive C) only.
    5. Click Turn on BitLocker, and follow the instruction on the screen to encrypt
the chosen partition. After that, a recovery key is automatically created.
    6. Save the recovery key to a USB storage device.
Note: Keep the USB storage device in a secured place. The recovery key is
needed when booting to Windows 7 or the Rescue and Recovery workspace.
The BitLocker encryption will be lost if the hard disk drive is cleared by the
Diskpart commands or other hard disk tools.
    7. Wait until the encryption process completes. After that, you can use the Rescue
and Recovery program to perform backup and restore operations.
For more information about BitLocker, go to the Microsoft Web site at:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933246/
    Notes:
    1. When setting up BitLocker in Windows 7, the BitLocker partition should be
after the Windows operating system partition for best results. If it is placed
before the Windows operating system partition, the partition number will need
to be updated in the Rescue and Recovery ADM settings.
    2. When restoring a system that is using Windows 7 and BitLocker, a message
will display, indicating that there was an error at shutdown. The message can
be ignored and everything should operate normally.
    3. For OEM or non-Lenovo standard preload systems, you need to suspend the
encryption of the Windows operating system partition when performing any
backup or restore operations using the Rescue and Recovery program,
otherwise the Rescue and Recovery program will not enter PDA.
    4. You might need to clear the TPM and encrypt the partitions again after
restoring the system from a backup with BitLocker encryption.
Let me know, if you need any more specific information.
    Cheers

  • 970a-g46 + Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB Disk not spinning when connected to mobo.

I have just bought this mainboard, plus an FX4100 and 2x2GB 1600MHz Kingston HyperX. Two Samsung hard drives, F3 HD502HJ and HD322HJ
After assembly i had some issues with BIOS recognizing my disk, so i started to move things around, changing cables, etc... until BIOS showed the disk, then entered windows, left drivers to update, a reboot and then started to use my computer.
For a while i could use the disk, i copied some files over the network, tested some movies, games and left windows updating WEI.
Suddenly i went to "my_computer" to access my 2nd hard drive and it wasn't there anymore. Rebooted several times, changed SATA cables, i used 3 brand new cables from several brands and everything kept the same. I tested a WD and a Hitahci hard drives with those cables, and they started working instantly without issue.
Took the disk to my 2nd computer, plugged in with it's original cable and it is working flawless. I just copied some files i needed over network to my main computer then started trying to make some sense about this.
The disk is FINE. It works eveywhere else but htis mainboard.
Windows starts fine from the main disk and works flawlessly with other disks.
The computer works like a charm and recognizes any disk i connect.
Cables are OK and they work with any disk on any computer except my F3 on my mainboard..
The disk spins correctly unless i connect it to SATA cable on the mainbord.
I even tried making a magnetic/inductance insulator for the cable and is the same.
I have read about othe rpeople having the EXACT problem with the exact same mainboard and the exact same hard disk. He took mainboard to the store and they changed it before he could solve the issue on any other way
Now i cant change my mainboard, since today on my city/country there's only 2 mainboards like this. Asrock 970 pro and this MSI. All other mainboards for AMD are $60 boards or $280+ mainboards. (This one costs $122)
So they will not change this board unless i take the Asrock or pay a very expensive one. (double the price or more)
I cant change the hard drive, since it is working fine, but is out of warranty time.
¿Is there anything i could do, ¿any unnofficial BIOS? ¿Any BIOS setting/tweak? ¿Anything i could get from anywhere?

I believe the last person with this issue updated the firmware of thier drive and it fixed the issue.
You can also try the beta bios for the board if one is available.

  • IMovie 11 projects no longer working, preview window is glitched or black, event library not playing imported vids

I am having a lot of trouble with iMovie 11.  I bought a new MacBook Pro 15" for the sole purpose of editing surgical videos for work.  iMovie 11 was working great initially for me (taking full length surgical video - up to 2 hours) and editing these down to anywhere from 5 to 30 min videos highlighting crucial steps for the surgeries along with transitions, ken burns, etc  (with the plan of overlaying narrative voice-over later).  I had about 15 of these videos edited sitting in my Project Library and multiple imported videos (dvd to m4v via handbrake then imported via iMovie 11) in my Project Library.  Now none of my projects play in the preview window, it's either black or a weird glitchy picture (like messed up pic of my doc or desktop... really weird) and only about 2 of my imported videos play in the project library, otherwise they are just black when I roll over them.  My projects are still intact as far as edited clip lengths and transitions, but nothing plays, even in full screen mode.  I tried making a new project and the imported video shows in the event library but when I add it to a project it's black (but does play in full screen mode, but impossible to edit this way).  I think the audio is actually intact although i'm not positive because these videos don't have any audio (there's some baseline level that fluctuates on the audio bars).
I tried finalizing and exporting a project as an m4v (one that was a combination of two edited imported videos - one of the source imported vids working in the event library and the other not working) and the first half is all glitched up with no surgery video, but the second half is there with the transitions and everything (the half that is working in the event library).  This part does not show up when I am trying to edit the project.
fyi - I had deleted some of the videos from my event library to unclutter a little some time ago, the projects were still working after that.
I can find all of my imported videos (in .mov format) that should be working in the event library when I look in the folder:
    users/me/movies/iMovie events
If someone could please help me resolve this issue, I would really appreciate it.  I put a lot of work and time into these videos and it would be near impossible to start from scratch (which would probably be on some other movie editor like windows movie maker since my iMovie is not working properly even for new projects).  I'm hoping this is just some sort of glitch that can be fixed and my projects are still salvagable.  I can't remember if this started after I did a system software update or not.  This will be a huge dissapointment for me in the Apple platform if I have to scrap my projects because I had just switched over from the PC platform.
I even got Norton antivirus and internet security to make sure I don't have some sort of weird virus.
    I have a Feb 2011 15 in MacBook Pro 2.2 Ghz, 4 g RAM, 750 g HD, 1 g vid card.  iMovie ver 9.0.4.  Lion 10.7.2

Did you by any chance upgrade your Mac OS from version 10.6 (Snow Leopard) to 10.7 (Lion) during the time you were working in iMovie on all these projects?
If not, start by deleting the iMovie Preferences file.
    Go to the Desktop
Hold down the Option key and choose the Go Menu > Library
    Go to Preferences > com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
Move the .plist file to the trash and restart iMovie
See if the Project files react any differently. Failing that try doing a Repair Disk Permissions:
Restart the Mac, hold down the Option key continuously until 2 hard drive icons appear
Choose the Recovery Volume as your startup disk and let it run until you see the Desktop
Choose Disk Utility from the Recovery Menu
Run Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility
Reboot the Mac and when you see the Desktop appear launch iMovie
See if the Project files are the same or different. Next step after this is to one at a time take the Project folders out of users/me/movies/imovie projects. Move one to the desktop and start iMovie. Try skimming the projects that acted up recently. Moving one project at a time might help isolate which project may be causing problems. You can also place project folders back in their original location after doing this testing and iMovie will recognize them on the next relaunch. It won't hurt anything.
