Windows to Mac iTunes file transfer woes

I have backed up my iTunes music folder onto an external hard drive and have connected to my new MBP with the hope of transferring my music files over to iTunes on my MBP. But when the folder opens there are no music files within the "Artists" folder.
Can anyone help?

There is a good general guide to switching from Windows to Mac at the following link that touches on moving music as well: How to Move to a Mac - Get your stuff from your PC to your new Mac

Don't forget by the way if you have purchased any tracks from the iTunes Music Store to deauthorise your old PC if you are disposing of it so you don't use up your 5 allowances: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

  • Windows to Mac.  File numbers don't match.

On transferring images from Windows to Mac, the file numbers were renumbered starting with B.  Blank files are also showing with the old DSC file numbers.  Can they be synchronised?

My UNIX skills are a little rusty, but you should be able to change the permissions recursively from terminal. Try using chmod -R to change the permissions on all subfolders within the directory you copied over.
That is the drawback of using a CD/DVD to copy files over. They become read only...
    Good luck...

        Hi JoeC695,
That's not good! We want your software to work properly. Have you tried uninstalling the Verizon Software Utility from your MAC? Do you receive a specific error message?

  • Searched for a clear answer on Mac to Windows Itunes file transfer

Trying to send my Mac iTunes music to my Windows laptop over a network. Windows sees the songs and can play them in iTunes, but is there an easy (or not so easy) way to just drag and drop the songs to the Windows computer?
    Thanks for any help!

I use Windows and prefer to stay away from MACs these days. So quick question, are you able to move the music from your iPod to your MAC, then from the MAC to flashdrive to Windows PC?

  • ITunes file transfer Problem - to new Windows 7 PC from old Windows XP PC

I have just followed the instructions regarding transfer of my iTunes music from my old PC to my new one, using an external hard drive. When I run iTunes, my library is totally empty!
I have checked the box in the iTunes Advanced Preferences window to enable Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library, as well as enabling the Keep iTunes media folder organized option.
I copied the main iTunes Media folder from mp old PC to the following folder in my new PC:
    C:/users/adam/my music/iTunes/iTunes media
and when I check the folder, it contains the following:
    (folder 110 MB) Album Artwork
(empty folder) Automatically Add To iTunes
    (empty folder) Downloads
    (folder 19.6 GB) iTunes Music
    (folder 358 MB) Mobile Applications
(folder 2.93 MB) Previous iTunes Libraries
(iTunes database file 16 KB) iTunes Library Extras
(iTunes database file 32 KB) iTunes Library Genius
(iTunes database file 7.37 KB) iTunes Library
(XML document 24.5 KB) iTunes Music Library
(TMP file 4.53 MB) Temp File 1.tmp
    (TMP file) Temp File.tmp
The parent folder, one level above the iTunes Media Folder (iTunes) contains the following:
    (folder) Album Artwork
    (folder 20.1 GB) iTunes Media
(database file 16 KB) iTunes Library extras
(database file 32 KB) iTunes Library Genius
(database file 3.82 KB) iTunes Library

Please can someone help me shed light on this as I have spent an entire day trying to crack this, and I am now starting to feel ill :- (
    Many thanks

Importing your music folder will add in the tracks, but your playlists all live in the original .itl file. Not quite sure why any playlists were imported at all, though if you have exported m3u files then they could have been added in when you added the folder. iTunes records absoulte paths in these lists and ignores any file it can't find.
The stuff in the Temp folder can be thrown away once everything is working. Just safer than deleting in case you wanted/needed to reverse any actions.
At step 6 you should have had your original library complete with ratings, playlists, date added values etc., so I'm not quite sure where things have gone wrong.
When you moved everything up one level did that include an iTunes Library.itl file? Another way of asking the same question is when you got to step 6 did you have a completely blank library with the prompts to add music.
Perhaps the .itl file was corrupt. The .tmp files indicate something may have gone wrong at some point. What are the sizes/dates of the files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder? The most recently dated of these, providing it is at least of a comparable size to its predecessors) may well be a better starting point. You can rename the current itl as iTunes Library (Temp).itl, copy the the older file up to the iTunes folder and rename it as iTunes Library.itl.
Use iTunes Folder Watch to update the library with tracks that have been added or removed since the backup file was created.

  • Help converting Mac iTunes files to PC iTunes files

I have an iBook with lots of songs, both bought from iTunes and copied from my own CD's, and I would like to move all these files onto my new Sony Viao.
I have tried to be very matter of fact by coping the files from my Mac to my thumbdrive in order to transfer them to my PC iTunes. It didn't work. The titles showed up but there was no content.
Please help me with this problem.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

iPodAgent for Windows on versiontracker.com should allow you to move the contents of your iPod to the Sony. If you need to use the iPod on both computers, it needs to be formatted for Windows. Mac's can handle the Windows formatting, PC's can't handle the Mac formatting. In other words, once you get the songs on to the Sony then you can restore the iPod to a Windows format & re-sync to the library on the Sony. I hope this isn't to confusing. Post back if you have any questions & welcome to discussions!

  • Windows to mac itunes

I just bought a powermac g5 and up until now ive been using my windows laptop for itunes and my ipod, how do i transfer my 11 Gbs of music?? or am i screwed?

HI, I had this same problem, and asked here how to fix it. The way I did it in the end was to follow Dr V's advice (hope you don't mind me pasting it in here as it was good advice)
By default windows will store your iTunes music in My Documents/My Music/iTunes. Simply go to the iTunes music folder and copy it. Either burn the folder onto a blank cd or DVD or if you have an external drive copy the folder to the external drive. Then transfer the music onto the Music folder on your mac. Open iTunes and point iTunes to your music folder and add your new music.

  • Gigabit Ethernet to Mac Mini File Transfer

After trying to upgrade my G4 and having the accelerator "kill" my power supply, I've decided to just invest in a Mac Mini until the intel chip G5s arrive.
I am now in the process of transferring my data from my G4 hard drives (2) into my serrogant mac mini. One drive has all my old files from when I had a Quadra 840AV and ran OS 9. Then I have a different drive that runs Tiger and my most recent work (animation short). Before the transfer I made sure both machines had the same OS just to make sure everything would run smoothly.
After launching the mini's Migration Assistant and restarting my G4 and holding down the "T" key, via firewire. Only the OS 9 drive shows up on my mini desktop? What happened to my OS X drive? I have disconnected everything and just started up my G4 and it boots right into OSX. Same with the Mini. But when I try to connect the two. Only OS9 is seen by the Mini?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated "o)
    Lyn

Hi Lynne ! Glad that you found a way to transfer your data, and thanks for the clarification. Being a recent Windows switcher, I don't always think as a Mac user, and although I do know of the Gigabit Ethernet G4, I didn't think of it when I read your post. Thanks for posting back the solution, too.
Sorry for having been of very little (no) help.
    Enjoy your new Mini !

  • Switching from Windows to Mac(iTunes question!!)

Okay so I have an account on iTunes and have bought alot of stuff. I have a video iPod and my parents just orderd me a macbook for my birthday. Okay so is there a way I can make sure my library and account and everything can be on my macbook too? One time I tried to plug my iPod into my friends computer to put her shows on my iPod and it went cuckoo.
How can I make sure I move my whole library over to my macbook? xD I'm new at this.

Don't worry about the 'friends computer' situation coming up again. You're working with your own library and you are merely moving it to a different computer. Lots of ways to get your music and video files onto the MacBook.
Your family have a network? (Could be the easiest way.)
You could burn all the files to DVD's or CD's. (You should already have all your media backed up anyways)
As already said, flash drives are also a possibility.
Just copy/move the media files to the macbook. Then authorize the macbook. Authorizing is found under the "Store" iTunes menu item. You can authorize up to 5 computers to play media purchased from the iTunes Store.
You don't have to "take your account" over to the macbook. When you visit the iTunes store when using your macbook just sign in with your existing account ID and password and you'll be good to go.
Hey, enjoy the mac world you are entering. I'm a relatively new adopter and am really happy with it.

  • Switched from Windows to MAC Itunes purchase problems

    Greetings all -
I transferred from a PC to an imac, with a new ipod as well. The transition of all my music went smooth, however there are about 29 tracks (out of 100) that i purchased through itunes that will not play. There are plenty of tracks that i purchased that play without any problems. It keeps asking me to authorize my mac. Which i've done, many times, when i click play, it asks me to authorize the computer again. What gives?
    Please help.
    thanks

Is it possible that these songs were purchased with a different iTunes account, that your computer has not been authorized for?
If you continue to have authorization problems you may want to email the iTunes store support, as they're really the only people who have access to your account information, and may be able to get a better understanding of the complete issue. You can use a form on this page to e-mail them:
