Windows to MAC PDF- looks different

Hello guys,
I am experiencing a very frustrating problem and I can't find a solution to it.
I am working on a PDF containing  excel table with editable forms. I've exported empty cells from excel and use Adobe Acrobat to generate empty editable forms - then I filled this forms with the data from the excel file. It contains about 11 pages of tables - quite a lot of data.
I am working on windows and I arranged everything as I want. The problem comes when I open this file on MAC - there are some differences which break the appearance of the PDF.
One of the issues is that on the forms with multiline text - the spacing between the lines on MAC is too small - and the lines almost overlaps each other - this is extremely annoying and it is very difficult to read.
I am banging my head with this issue a lot of time -  but I am stuck now , I couldn't fine any working solution.
Has anyone here faced to this problem ?
I would like to know if there is a way to fix this issue ?
Any suggestions are welcomed.
Regards
Svetlozar

Are all fonts embedded? Check File>Properties>Fonts. Should say "embedded" or "embedded subset" next to the font names.
If not, you're probably experiencing font substitution on one or both machines.

  • PDFs look different in Adobe reader and Acrobat professional compared to the built in PDF viewer on windows 8

    Hi there,
I have been trying to narrow down an issue we have been having for some time in printing PDF files and finding that they look different on paper compared to screen.  Up until today our big KIP plotter got the blame, but as I have been collecting notes on a little windows 8 tablet I noted that PDFs opened in the windows PDF viewer have the same visual defects as the printouts.  My example today is that on a CAD drawing there is a small box/frame with a number in their, I tried printing and the frame was completely blacked out.  As a test I tried saving the PDF as a TIFF file from Adobe Acrobat professional and this file had the same fault as the printed copy.  When I open it in the windows 8 pdf viewer I can see that there is a shading within this box that does not show on Adobe Reader (latest version 11.0.10.32), the adobe reader and acrobat pro version both show a white background to the box.  We have been having lots of issues with sections being missing from drawings and overly feint lines.
I am not sure where to start trying to narrow down why we are getting different results in different PDF readers.  Is there anyone who maybe able to point me in the right direction?  It almost feels like the shading or colour density is not being consistent when PDFs are being opened in different packages.
    Thanks in advance
    Andy

Some PDF viewers comply with the PDF ISO Standard (ISO 32000) "just enough" while others (such as Adobe's) fully comply.
As with anything there's a cost to using anything that comes from a "just enough" approach.
    Be well...

  • Exported PDF looks different in Preview, Adobe Reader

    Hi,
I'm relatively new to InDesign and experiencing all sort of problems. I'm trying to export PDF of my resume in a small size file to send it over the email. However, after exporting when I view PDF document in different applications, it looks different.
    1) In Adobe Reader in 100% view the letters in bold are "jumping". Please see the screenshot below
    2) The colors of the logo come out right when viewed in Adobe Reader. Which is 1st image:
However when viewed in applications such as Preview or just default Mac preview with space bar. The colors of the logo and the contact details comes out completely different then in Adobe Reader.
I export the PDF with the default settings that comes with smallest file size but I need to make sure it looks good as this resume is for my job and will be viewed most probably on the computer. The logo is linked to Adobe Illustator file in InDesign document.
Please help as I spend about 3 hours trying to figure it out. I would really appreciate your help!
    Natalia

    Hi Mike,
Thank you for your answer. I've tried most of the thing you recommended but it doesn't work:
    1) The file was originally created in CMYK and then I converted it to sRGB in InDesign. As well as chose transperency blend space as RGB. As for the logo then the option in Illustrator to convert the file into RGB mode seems to be disabled.
3). Exactly what I was doing.
I don't understand what I'm doing wrong... Is there a way to import all the links from illustrator into InDesign file?

  • PDF looks different on iOS

My PDF form looks and acts differently on my iPad vs. my computer both using reader.
Has anyone else had issues? Or know of a solution?

    Alec,
    Thank you for the response.
No the blue and red boxes aren't the issue.  Some of the issues include:
The dropdown box doesn't change other fields like it does on the desktop version.
The radio buttons at the bottom have changed possition.
Some text that is displayed on the desktop version isn't showing in iOS.
Do you see the same problems when you open the document in iOS vs. desktop?

  • Why does my Mac Mini look different on different displays

I have 3 HDTVs, 2 Samsung 40" LCD 1080p and a 50" Insignia Plasma 1080p. I have my 2009 Mac mini connected to my Samsung LN40a530 the picture quality is amazing, pictures are beautiful, text is extremely clear and colors look real and vivid. But as soon as I try connecting my Mac mini to my other television sets, the overall picture quality is very noticeably poor in comparison to the Samsung LN40a530. At first I had just the Samsung LN40a530 and the Insignia plamsa. I had figured the issue was the fact that one is LCD and one is plasma but I recently purchaced a Samsung LN40c550 LCD 1080p LCD and the same problem persisted. The colors are off for instance people look dark and orange, the text is blochy, the overall picture is just not very good. I have tried several times to adjust the settings on the Mac and the televisions with no luck. I find this very strange since both Samsung televisions are essentially the same tv. It's understandable with one being plasma and one being LCD but when the LCD and the plasma are having essentially the same issue it's very confusing. If anyone has had the same issue when switching monitors or televisions with a Mac mini any help would he great. Thanks

There is really only one setting on the Mac that can have such a dramatic affect. That would be the gamma setting. You get to the gamma setting when running through a color calibration on the Mac. You can check and see if gamma is the same when connected with the different TVs. Mac's typically default to 2.2 for computer displays but a setting of 1.8 is often needed for TVs, so that's worth looking into.
Outside of that setting, your attention should shift to the TVs. On you two Samsungs, do they have very similar menu arrangements? If so, try sitting down with a pencil and paper and write down all the settings for the good Samsung and then apply them to the bad one. I would think that would bring them very close into alignment for image quality.
Are all the TVs in question being hooked up the same way using the same cable and adapter? You didn't really say anything about how they are hooked up.

  • My mac safari looks different and had pop ups? Virus like...

    I have a Mac Air 13".
I just updated my mac a few days ago. (I'm no sure where to find my latest update at either?)
When I bring up my safari the page of my top sites doesn't come up. And my preferred search is google....but it comes up as some white screen with some other name in the url and pretends as if it is google...then while moving through other sites I get all the pop up ads and "keep your mac clean", so and so sites. I need some help quickly before I leave for school!

Download this adware removal tool from this link: http://www.thesafemac.com/art/
It should take care of the ads
Then search "how to make google your default search engine" on safari, It will show you the steps.  They're easy to follow.

  • Saving as PDF from Excel looks different to Excel version

    Hi
I have been working in Excel and been saving PDF files for the past year using the inbuilt feature in Excel. I have recently installed Adobe Acrobat so that I could save PDFs directly from Excel instead. When I save exactly the same file from Excel, the adobe acrobat PDF looks different to the excel PDF version.
I have uploaded an image to show you what I mean.
    http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=1z1ux6d&s=8
The image on the left is the correct version, this version was saved using the "Save As PDF" option built into excel. The image on the right is the version saved with the Excel acrobat add-in. You can notice how the font is different on acrobat version, the part where it says "Date" and "Description. You will also notice the black lines above the little card icons do not go right to the end of the line like they should. Each of of them little card icons is a seperate image, does Acroboat have trouble converting these little images or something as they appear fine on the Excel version.
Is there anything that can be done so converting it to PDF will look closer to how its suppose to look?

I checked the properties of each file. The Excel PDF version has more fonts listed in the properties section compared to the PDF maker one. I can select the "Date" and "description" and copy and paste it as text but now it appears the text is fine, its showing correctly now even though I havent changed anything.
The icon problem is still there though.
I have also attached another image of a close up of the little card icons:
    http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=nqac9j&s=8
The version on the right is correct, created within the built in PDF feature in Excel. The version on the left, created with the Excel pdf maker addin.

  • Time changes when switching from Windows to Mac, vice versa

    Hi,
I am using Bootcamp to run Windows XP SP2 on my macbook. When ever I switch from one to the other (mac to windows, vice versa) my time will always be incorrect. I have to restart the computer everytime to switch, but when ever I just reset and load into the same OS as before, my time is fine. Anyone know what is wrong? It's really annoying to have to change the time or think its a certain time and it being wrong.

Everyone gets that problem. Evidently Windows and Mac use a different reference point for the time, I think one uses Greenwich and the other local. On the Mac side you can go to System Prefs->Date & Time, and see if checking the box to "Set date & time automatically" fixes the problem.

There are 3rd party apps you can get that can help a bit, but I think the main answer is that if you are using templates and graphic rich features of iWeb, the code it generates is pretty complex, a side effect of making it easy to use. All that code gives wiggle room to different browsers and generations of browsers to reproduce it differently.
My approach is just to keep things as simple as possible, and start with blank pages rather than templates. Because I keep my pages streamlined, they're universally compatible.

  • Webpages look different on all mac browsers than they do on IE

Ok, I just purchased an IMAC 27inch and I am not happy. The WebPages I used to do my job on my windows machine worked fine. On my IMAC, they look different, as if part of the page is lying on tope of another part of it, or like the tables used to create the web page are skewed.
I have tried this on Safari, Firefox and Opera. I went back to the mac store and brought the webpage up on the model in the store and the same thing happen. The sales person downloaded and installed Chrome and there was no change. It did the same thing on chrome.
Has anyone had a similar problem? WebPages looking different on the IMAC than they do on windows IE? I need to get this figured out fast or I will just take this thing back. I have 11 days left on the 14 day return policy. Help.
I will try and figure out how to upload a pdf of both WebPages to this thread

So, is this your first Mac? I remember when I switched over from a PC, I had the exact same issue. Trust me on this one, there is nothing wrong with your computer, it simply takes time to mentally adjust to the differences. It looks as if Safari does not show the complete webpage, or looks as if it is cutoff, or as you said, "skewed." But it is not, your eyes are so used to the IE format and your brain has grown so accustomed to your internet experience being a certain way that it takes time to get used to it. I posted the EXACT same question five years ago in this forum and everyone told me what I am telling you and I got pretty upset with some very knowledgeable people. Now I feel like a fool for having disagreed because I see nothing wrong with it at all, but I am using the same exact computer I was five years ago (I love IMac's, how many PC's can one say that about) You will get used to it, no doubt about it.

  • Why does Muse website look different Mac vs. PC

Why do adobe muse websites look different on a Mac vs. PC? www.915day.com for example. Looks great on my mac, but when you go to the PC version it looks zoomed in at least 25-35%? Why? (I have thus adjusted it to look good on a PC.) Frustratingly, to center the Logo for one platform, means to put it off center on the other. Defeats the whole purpose of Parallax scrolling. Also, who would pay so much a month to the creative cloud if they can't even offer their clients continuity? I understand there is a difference between older browsers and new, but it tests the same way even on a new browser (Windows 8 browsers). I have tried adjusting the canvas to the exact measurements of the screen on my PC but it renders the same. Also I have turned on the HiDPI just to see if that was the case. Still no fix. There is only one instance of this in the forums and it has still gone unanswered. So I am asking in greater detail why this is an issue.
    Anyone?

I tried to check the site display in multiple browsers on both Mac and windows , but I was not able to verify the issue.
I believe you have already resolved the issue.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

  • Used to use the Mac.  How different are menus between Mac and Windows?

I used to use the Mac.  How different are the PowerMac menus from those of Windows OS?

    Hello,
They're pretty different, after a short while the Mac will be easier, key is to not expect it to work like Windows... I use both.

  • Exported swf looking different in Pc and Mac

So I made pages with FC. But now i have noticed that it is looking different in different operating systems.
When I look it with my Mac Book pro using what ever browser (safari, firefox etc.) The text in this page will look like this.
Also as you can see I have pressed down the link "Maanantai". In Mac it is looking ok. But in PC there are some cutting.
And if I look the text with PC (windows XP) with any browser (IE, firefox) it will look like this. How it is possible?
I thought that swf file is WYSIWYG? Apparently it generates something concerning to text.

    Hi,
You are correct about font embedding - if you don't do it, your text will look different across platforms.
If you're willing to jump to Flash Builder, here's the documentation on embedding fonts:

  • Flash movie looks different in mac vs pc

I built a flash movie to display products. There are 3 different key frames. Two of them look the same on both mac and pc. Only one looks completely different.
It works on IE7, IE8, Firefox, and Chrome on PC. Everything looks exactly how it should.
I tested with Chrome, Safari, and Firefox on a Mac and it looks totall different.
I am using swfobject.js to embed the file and I updated flash to the most recent version on both machines.
With a windows computer, it looks like this:
On a Mac, it looks like this:
The two New Arrivals are encroaching on the image and there is no product name or item numbers.
Any thoughts on why this is happening?

Usually when a browser has an issue playing a Flash file it is due to the embedding code that is used in the html page.  Can you compare your code to another page's code to see what differences there are?  You should let Flash generate the embedding code rather than using some other software to do it if that is what you did.  Just have Flash publkish and html page, test that page in your various browsers, and if it works, copy/paste that code in place of what you have now.

  • Generated Crystal Report PDFs are different on Windows server

    Post Author: present
    CA Forum: .NET
    Hi,
I created Crystal Report template (with two columns on one
page) inside VS 2005 on my Windows XP Professional machine.
But there are formating problems on both XP and Windows
    Server machines:
    1) On Windows XP machine, I have to overlap the two columns
on the page inside VS 2005 editor in order to generate
correct PDF file (without overlap). How to fix the the
    overlapping problem in editor?
    2) On Windows 2003 server: After I put the template on
Windows 2003 server that has no VS 2005 installed (only
CRRedist2005_x86.msi was installed), the generated PDF has
different font size and layout (such as page size, column
    overlap, etc).
Do I have to install VS 2005 on server too? It is really
frustrating that I have to print document generated on the
server before I know if the template works fine or not.
    Any help is highly appreciated!

Typically when you are seeing page formatting issues on different machines, it could be because of printer drivers (or lack of).  The reporting engine relies on the printer driver configured on the machine to provide information so that a page can be properly rendered.  If you designed the report on your dev machine which is using PrinterA and then deploy to another machine using PrinterB, the formatting could be off.  So make sure that the exact same printer driver is being used on these machines.  If your deployments are expected to go to different machines where you don't know what printer will be installed, then you will need to design the report such that it can be rendered as best as possible.  Another option is to check the "No Printer" option and this should render the report the same on any machine with any printer, but then you'll need to make sure you handle any scenarios where the user wants to print to the printer.
If this is an ASP.NET application then permissions could play a part if the printer drivers cannot be accessed.  There are whitepapers on the BOBJ support site that have information on to configure CR to print reports in ASP.NET apps.
