Windows to mac with a used ipod

I had a 4th gen ipod on my mac but it was stolen. My friend gave me her old 2nd gen ipod that was synced to a pc and now i'm trying to restore it and sync it with my itunes. it will not show up in itunes but will show up in the finder. how do i reset it to add my music?

I am having that EXACT same problem. Makes me think something is up with their site with the timeout thing. I don't know what to do now.

We are planning to Silent print a PDF from a web page using Flex. We are targeting Windows and Mac with Arcobat reader installed. I have tried using the AIR appliaction and it worked, But our requirement is NO INSTALL to the user machine for the silent printing. It is just from web page and silent printing to the default printer to the desktop/Laptop. Can anyone share your thoughts and experience with us. It will be very helpful..
For AIR : I tried the thread Re: AIR and PDF showing/silent printing

    Hey CodeMonkey & Ross,
Did you either of you ever find a solution? I'm stuck too, it seems I can get remote printing on all these PDFs to work but it just prints a blank page since I've been using Javascript in the browser, not Adobe's (they are Engineering drawings that I do not have permission to edit so I can't just insert code into them but I need to make work instructions). I've been scouring the internet for hours now, it seems that this thread is the only relevant/useful one at this point. No one else was trying to achieve this for similar reasons to mine.
    Thanks guys,

  • Migrating Applications from Windows to Mac with new iPhone

My original first gen iPhone died a horrible death a few months ago. I had always synced it to my Windows laptop. I just recently acquired a new iPhone and want to sync it instead to my iMac. However, I have a dozen or so iPhone applications that I still want and I cannot figure out how to migrate the applications that are recognized by iTunes on my Windows machine and transfer them to my iMac. I even attempted to download an application I already purchased from my iMac, and I was charged the fee for the iPhone application instead of it just recognizing i had previously purchased the application.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Connect the iPod to the Mac and restore it in iTunes. Restoring in iTunes for Mac will erase and reformat the iPod's hard drive, reload the software with the mac version and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. When using the migrate tool to migrate from windows to mac, can you use ethernet to connect the computers to each other? In the Migration tool, I was only given the option of choosing the computer when it appeared on the same network, and didn't see an option to connect them to each other. Even though they're both connected to the same network with a wired connection, the migration is painfully slow.

Yes. The following quotation is from About Windows Migration Assistant
These are the preferred network connections, in order:
Use a CAT6-certified Ethernet cable that is in good condition to connect the Ethernet port of the PC directly to the Ethernet port of the Mac or Ethernet adaptor (USB or Thunderbolt). You shouldn't use an Ethernet cable that has any kinks in it or is missing connector tabs.
Use CAT6-certified Ethernet cables that are in good condition to connect the Mac and PC to your home network router/hub/switch. You shouldn't use an Ethernet cable that has any kinks in it or is missing connector tabs.
For wireless, use the fastest wireless signal possible (802.11n 5Ghz). Try to have the PC, Mac, and the wireless access point all in the same room close to each other.

  • IPod shuffle 2nd gen not recognized in Mac either Finder or iTunes (but is detected and works perfectly fine on Windows)... i tried using iPod Reset Utility, but no luck...

i've been working on this for the past few days, and still no luck... iPod Shuffle 2nd generation (i know it's old).... not detected in my home MacBook... but works perfectly fine on Windows....
i tried using iPod Reset Utility, soooo many times... and i only had twice the luck of having it formatted... but even though it is formatted, it still isn't recognized in iTunes or even in Finder.... other than the 2 times of having it formatted using iPod Reset Utility, i had seen all the reuslts, like: Error ressetting the ipod blah blah: iPod has been reset, keep plugged in, until reset is completed blah blah: iPod has been reset, unplug and replug your iPod blah blah... etc, i have seen all the possible effects of iPod Reset Utility, but still no luck getting it recognized in iTunes or Finder....
and then , i tried connecting it to a windows computer (but i didn't restore it from there, and just ejected it from windows iTunes), after ejecting it from windows, and then connecting it to Mac, it worked miraculuosly.... perfectly synced and able to put music and listen to them... ejected iPod... after a few minutes, i wanted to add some other music, but when i connected it again, Bam!!!! not working again... even after connecting to windows, it didn't work anymore... guess the magic trick has been doomed...
i badly need help... puhlease...  (^_^)

Hey, I hear ya and can sympathize. I have the same
issue. The difference is that my computer can "see"
    my ipod but it refuses to show up in itunes itself;
therefore, I can't put anything on the ipod (from the
computer) and vice-versa. Apple support is clueless.
This is very frustrating to say the least. Itunes
keeps telling me that my ipod is synced to a
"different" computer, which isn't true. It's the
same computer. The difference is that when I first
got the 'pod and used it with this computer (and
everything worked fine), I was running XP. I
installed Vista and after that, all the problems
started. If I ever get this resolved, believe me,
    I'll post something here.
I'm guessing that somehow, itunes "sees" what
computer it's hooked to by "looking" at something in
the OS. Change the OS and it "thinks" it's seeing a
    "different" computer.
    Try reformatting it.

  • Windows and Mac with same iPod

I have an iPod I have been using for over a year on my Mac with iTunes. I wanted to be able to connect it to my girlfriends PC so she can use it when she is working on her 'puter. She downloaded iTunes, then the iPod software from the Apple site, installed everything, but then it askes if she wants to format it. I don't want to lose 15 gigs of music so I told her not to do anything else til I can find an answer. How do we proceed at this point? Is it possible to do what I want to do or will we have to buy her her own Mac... to use my iPod.

Macs can read a Windows formatted iPod, but a Windows PC cannot directly read a Mac formatted iPod.
You can format the iPod for Windows use and then use it across the two platforms, but that will erase the iPod and require you to resync it to your iTunes.
There is a software you can purchase that will allow a Windows PC to read a Mac formatted HD (or iPod). See: XPlay (Software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)

  • Data transfer from mac to pc using ipod

I need to transfer some data files from my MacBook to my PC using my 30GB ipod. I get all the files copied onto my ipod from my mac with no problems. I have my ipod set to be used in disk mode.
Once I plug it into my pc, it tells me that I need to format the drive. How can I successfully transfer data from my mac to my pc using my 30GB ipod?
Someone told me to go ahead and format the drive/ipod on my pc and then plug it into my mac, place the files in the ipod and then I should be able to access the files having the ipod plugged into my pc. I started to try this, but it messes up my ipod to where I need to reset my ipod to factory settings using, my macbook.
Would it be possible to reset my ipod to factory settings using itunes on my pc and then try plug the ipod into my macbook and copy the files over that way?
Please let me know what you have found out. I need to backup all my files and get them on to a second computer. I have 25GB worth of home videos that makes it so that I need to use my ipod, other wise another device would do the trick.

Yes. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's what you were supposed to do in the first place. The wonderful thing about OS X: It'll speak HFS+, FAT32, and it'll even understand NTFS (but it can't write to it... yet). Oddest thing: XBox 360 will read HFS+, but WinXP/Vista won't... curious, isn't it?

  • Need to Re-install Windows on Mac with boot camp

I purchased a Mac Pro from someone about 6 months ago that already had a 2nd drive with Boot Camp and Windows XP Pro running on it. Today for the first time when I booted into Windows, I got an error message saying that I "may be a victim of software counterfiting" and that my version of Windows is not an authorized version in my region.
I have an a genuine Windows XP Pro disc with seriel that I want to now re-install over the bad version. The problem is when I try to run the CD for install, I get an error message stating that I cannot install from the CD because the version of Windows I am currently running is newer than that on the CD.
So my question is, how do I uninstall the bad version of Windows and re-install the version off the CD? I know I will lose my files and programs but everything is backed up and I will reinstall everything when I get back up and running.
    Thanks for the help!!

You can format from Windows CD if that is what you mean by "windows side."
Updates are usually done while boot in the OS you want to 'upgrade' while custom is only done booted from other media.
With a Mac Pro you could easily install in many different ways than if you only had a laptop or imac.
But you can't "pick yourself up by your own bootstraps."
I don't even like upgrade of SL while booted in Mac OS.
If it was my Mac I'd install Windows 7 and make better use of your hardware and the performance afforded.

Is Apple compatible with Microsoft Office?
Any computer is compatible as long as it can read and write Office files. But for perfect (or at least near perfect) compatibility, you would want to purchase Office 2011 for Mac.
How can I transport from Windows to Mac?
You can't directly transport any installation of Windows. All PC's come with a machine specific version of Windows intended for that PC. They don't have all of the hardware drivers the retail disks cover.
If you want Windows on your Mac, you would first purchase a full version copy (NOT an upgrade disk) of Windows 7 or 8. Those are the only supported versions on newer Macs. You install it through the supplied Boot Camp utility that comes with the Mac to create a new partition for Windows, and then install the retail copy of Windows you purchased.
The reason only these versions of Windows are supported is the same basic reason as a machine specific version of Windows for a PC. Apple only includes the necessary Mac hardware drivers for Win 7 or 8 on new Macs.
Once Windows is installed, you could then install the version of Office for Windows you already own. The nuisance of a Boot Camp partition is that you have to physically boot to either Windows or OS X, so you can only use the apps of the OS you're in at the time. To use both at once, you'd have to use virtual machine software (Parallels, VMware, VirtualBox) and then install Windows within that. Then you'd be able to run Windows inside of OS X and have access to both at the same time.

  • Installing Windows on Mac with Ubuntu

I am trying to triple boot windows, ubuntu, and osx. I have already installed Ubuntu on a partition using rEFIt and that all went very smoothly. I did that a while ago. Now I want to install windows but I am having all sorts of difficulty.
    1) Bootcamp doesnt work. A warning comes up at the very beginning saying "The startup disk cannot be partitioned." Well it already is. Is there any sort of work-around for this?
    2) When I dd the windows iso onto a usb drive, rEFIt does't even recognize it so I cannot boot the Windows installer.
I am pretty helpless right now. Any advice would help. I really don't want to uninstall Ubuntu. I could use Ubuntu to install Windows but I am not sure that would help. I really want this to work in a very simple unified way under rEFIt, only EFI is not recognizing my USB Windows Installer.
I dont have a CD/DVD drive on my new Macbook Pro, but perhaps I could get one and try burning a disk. Not sure if that would solve this issue or not. I am real need of someone who knows about this stuff.
    Thank you for your help,
    Chet

Hmm. I'd really like to avoid a virtual machine. I've always had bad experienced with them slowing down my machine. I'd really like to just be able to boot into windows from startup with refit. This doesn't seem impossible...
I'm going to try to use the installation disk via remote disc. I'd like to conclusively rule out everything else before deciding to use a virtual machine...
    Thanks

  • Data transfer: ext hard drive to new Mac with Mavericks using Time Machine

Data from old computer is on ext hard drive. I delayed transfer to new Mac. Now using Migration Assistant bit I don't know if it is working or just hung up. It shows 'looking for other sources' for over an hour. Please advise.

In general, most people will recommend Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! You can find either one easily enough with a web search.
However, in your case, I imagine you are going to have a hard disk returned to you all by itself, and you will need to install it in an enclosure. Don't let that bother you as this is easy to do and the enclosures are not expensive ($40 or so).
Once that is done, I would recommend you set up your brand new Mac by answering all the questions during initial setup as usual. Be sure to use your correct Apple ID - probably the same one you used to log into this support forum. When you reach the point in which it asks you if you would like to transfer your old documents and settings, connect the old hard disk and select it as the source. It will take some time as it copies all its contents to your new Mac. All your familiar items will be exactly as they were on the failed Mac.
After that, you can use the old hard disk as a Time Machine backup. When you are satisfied everything on your new Mac is running as it should, go ahead and erase the old disk. Then, tell Time Machine to designate it as a backup, and the rest is automatic.

  • Going from Windows to Mac with iPod.

    Hiya.
I have an iPod Nano (2nd generation), which I intially installed on a PC with Windows. I've just recently got a MacBook and I want to use my iPod with the MacBook instead. The only problem is that the iPod seems to be configurated to Windows so it won't allow me to update the iPod. Does anyone know how to change this so that it's configurated to Mac?
    Thanks in advance,
    Michelle

Apple currently only fully supports using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac. Essentially what this means is that to update the software the iPod has to be restored. Restoring will erase and reformat the iPod's hard drive with the Mac file system, reload the software and put it back to default settings, so if you have songs on your iPod that aren't on iTunes you will lose them if you have no back up. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7
