Windows - too much RAM?  Is this the root cause of many problems

I know this is going to sound counter intuitive, but I have reason to believe that there are problems with Windows systems with large amounts of memory (4 gb, if not something less than this).
Why? I just recently bought a new notebook - fully maxed out for performance in every conceivable way - including 4 gb RAM.
But since the first day, I noticed a problem with a particular piece of pre-installed software where MSVCR80.DLL would keep crashing everytime specific programs started to run. I liased with the vendor and went through all the usual troubleshooting, plus reinstalled Windows from both the factory config and from original disks more times than I care to remember but the problem remained. They replaced all the hardware, and the problem continues. The vendor tried to reproduce the problems internally but couldn't. (So note, none of these problems are Lightroom problems - I haven't even installed Lightroom on this new machine yet).
About the same time I noticed a couple of mentions of this same DLL in a number of threads on this site:
http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?7@@.3bc44c18/3
http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc489fe
http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc4644c/10
And reading these, you see people who have 4 or 3 Gb RAM also experiencing weird problems.
Last night I was working through what could be different and decided to rip out one of the 2 Gb RAM modules in my new computer - taking it down to (only) 2 Gb RAM, and suddenly the software that I was having problems with suddenly works correctly. Reinstalled the second RAM module and it stops working and crashes in the same way as did initially. So in this case, the problem is definitely having this much RAM.
So as a test, it would be interesting to see if some of the people experiencing problems in Lightroom (on Windows) with over 2 Gb memory reduce the amount of installed memory and see if the problems in Lightroom goes away as well?
I'm also debating whether the problem is actually a software problem in the MSVCR80.DLL, or whether there is something more sinister in the hardware - because 4Gb RAM doesn't give 4Gb usable RAM because of the mapping of various hardware into memory (video cards for instance) - on my new notebook with Vista it was reporting it had 3.5Gb usable RAM - if you search on the web you find some Vista users with 4Gb RAM showing less than 3Gb usable RAM within Vista - so there are definitely some hardware dependencies going on here as well - some machines with 4Gb RAM might work, and some with different hardware configs with 4Gb RAM might not.
It will be interesting to see what results people get with less memory.

Hi everyone
I'd like to thank everyone for trying to help me with this problem, but that's not the reason that I posted the original message.
The problem I'm experiencing is not bad hardware or a faulty software installation. It is a 100% reproducible problem which displays when there is 4 Gb RAM in the machine and doesn't when there is 2 Gb RAM - with no other changes occurring except this change of memory.
The old DLL conflict issue apparently is not so much of an issue with this file these days because each application can have a manifest which describes the precise version of the supporting files and Windows will maintain these seperate versions and present the appropriate version to the correct app. Regardless, this doesn't behave like a DLL conflict because the only change is that of memory.
I agree that 32bit operating systems should not have a problem with 4 Gb RAM, but clearly in my case there is. And in the initial Lightroom topics that I cited where others were experiencing similar issues with the same DLL, and they also had machines with over 2 Gb RAM.
The problem may not be that all machines with over 2 Gb RAM have problems, but there may be a unique set of interactions between various pieces of hardware / software / BIOS / installed software that is causing it on specific configurations. The problem may or may not lie with the actual DLL that is reporting the crash, I just don't know.
The reason I posted this initially was because whilst investigating an unrelated application, I happened upon a strong correlation of specific problems with this DLL across multiple different applications (the security application that I noticed the problem with, reports here in Lightroom, but if you Google you'll find references to a large range of other applications, including PS3), and the common theme for everyone who has had these problems appears that they've had high end machines with over 2 Gb RAM. Further in my case with the relevant security application I'm having problems with I have proof that the problem disappears if you reduce the memory.
My intent was really just to hone the number of scenarios where we know this problem either occurs or doesn't. I'm curious as to:
- anyone who has over 2 Gb RAM who is having problems with Lightroom, and seeing if the same problems occur if they reduced the amount of memory in their system. There are certainly some people on these forums who have been very vocal as to problems - I just want to see if the Lightroom problems these people are experiencing are a sympton of some more fundamental issue.
- anyone who has over 2 Gb RAM but is operating successfully with no problems whatsoever (forums have a selection bias whereby you predominantly hear from people who have problems, not those that don't have problems) - I'd like to balance this out a bit by having people who are having no problems also jump into the discussion.
- anyone who has less than 2 Gb RAM who have had Lightroom report problems with MSVCR80.DLL (this is the control)
If we can narrow down the circumstances in which it occurs, it will be much easier for the developers to be able to reproduce and then trace and eliminate the problem. But if everyone just keeps going "it doesn't work" then we'll never get anywhere.
Thanks
Greg

  • The root cause of video problems?

Since upgrading to Leopard, I had been consistently unable to get video chat working using iChat. I have two machines (a Powermac G4 and a Macbook) behind a Netgear router, and nothing I tried would get either machine to connect to a video chat. Each attempt failed with a message stating that the other party failed to respond. I tried disabling the OS X firewall, the router firewall, setting port forwarding, setting the target machine as a DMZ router, and all without success.
Finally last night I managed to get video chat working seamlessly, simply by switching from my normal .Mac iChat account to a standard AIM account. Yes folks, as simple as that. With AIM account, video works flawlessly. Add @mac.com to the equation, and it's no video, no how.
I can offer no clue as to why this might be the case, but if you are having video issues, then rather than spend hours faffing with your router and firewall settings, simply switch to a standard AIM account, and see if everything works as it should. If it's not just me, then Apple need to take a long hard look at their .Mac servers.

    Hi,
It could be the AIM normal pre-Christmas sort out.
Since about 2004 at least AIM have started to clear out what they identify as unused Screen names and allow them to be chosen again.
They did this about 4 times a year with a big one in early December.
Now AIM have links to the @mac ID lists as they are valid IDs as well
The process obviously impinges on some people's Buddy lists as they still list those screen names. It also takes place over however many servers AIM actually use and the fact they have different ones for doing different jobs.
How is On-Line comes back to you from a different server to the one you login with.
More recently there is some evidence that AIM do this updating more frequently and it is also less drastic (probably more organised) than in previous years.
There have been a spate of posts though that seem related.
Leopard can do an SSL login and this server has been patchy recently.
Leopard also added a rush or new and returning to try users.
GoogleTalk have added AIM Protocols to their service(s)
@mac names like this thread seem to be partly effected. (however make sure you have not just updated your password to more than 16 characters as this will not work with the AIM servers)
AIM Name users have also reported problems such as Tom has said.
The problem, if it is this, seemed to start last week and would normally be finished in a week (this Wed just gone 12th Dec for late comers).
If it persists try deleting com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist and restarting iChat

  • Too much ram? Is this possible?

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro 17" 2.33 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
My computer seems to take a long time to render or export video from FCP.
Someone told me that my Laptop can only be upgraded to 3GB of ram, and that having 4 GB could be slowing it down.
    Is this possible?
These are my other system settings.
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro2,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.33 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP21.00A5.B08
    SMC Version (system): 1.14f5
    Serial Number (system): 3R65003KW0M
    Hardware UUID: 00000000-0000-1000-8000-0017F2C944DC
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled
Please let me know if I am using too much ram.
    Thanks,
    Jamie

Well, it's true that a MBP2,1 only supports 3GB of RAM. But the only thing that should mean is that the last 1GB can't be addressed. It shouldn't slow down your system, because your system shouldn't even "know" it's there.
And if there was an issue with RAM addressing, it should display itself as system instability, not system slowness, I would think. RAM doesn't work like that.
Now if you have the wrong kind of RAM (doesn't match the bus speed) or mismatched RAM sticks (different speeds), then you could have speed issues, since the RAM will all have to synchronize to the slowest supported clock speed.

  • Whay the itunes take too much ram

the itunes take too much ram in 16 gig pit  windows

Well recalling an old post, is just stating the fact that the program is still doing the same thing. And i do concurr that itunes is one of my bigger ram hogs but i have no problem with 16gigs of ram installed. As coder myself, i know it is possible for them to rework itunes to dump cache periodically so that it doesnt hog as much ram as it does.
Itunes is falling behind times as Solid State Drives are becoming more prevelant in computers, they shouldn't need to cache as much as it does currently and hogging system resources. But then again on the other hand, they are  probably thinking that it is not a problem anymore since the standard for most computers/laptop is upwards of 4gigs+. Still is poor coding on apple's behalf that wont be recognized this late in the game.
    In reply to Zak,
As of right now apple is on downward slope according to stock market quotes. But they have a few products that are coming out here soon that will bounce them back easily. After that, I am not sure.
    In reply to Richb1910,
Comparing Apple to Mircosoft now a days is like comparing apple to oranges. Their companies have taken different paths, yes one may be better then the other in their choice of paths. But as it stands microsoft is still the leading home user operating system and server operating system for many major companies. Apple excels with their product lines which make them a very successful company. To say on or the other is barely staying above water is by far the wildest thing i have ever heard.

Removing the favicons, changing the titles to 1-4 characters without spaces, and putting some or most into folders still readily accessible from the bookmarks toolbar
would help a lot. Also changing the size of the bookmarks toolbar text and color with a Style to differentiate between folders and bookmark/bookmarklets would help, see

  • After Effects Ram Preview Drops Frames , Using Strangely Too Much Ram

    System Specs :
         CPU : Core i7 4770k
         Memory : 16 GB DDRIII
         Graphic Card : GTX 770 4GB RAM
         Storage : 256 GB SSD + 2 TB HDD
         OS : Windows 7 SP1
         Using After Effects CC 12.2.1.5
NOTE : NOT ANY ADDITIONAL HARDWARE IS ATTACHED TO MY PC . NO SOUND RELATED EQUIPMENT NOR CAPTURE CARD NOR ANY THING ELSE
    Hi there
As you Already Don't know I'm an After effects Specialist Using it for quite long time . There is an Ancient Problem with CS6 CC versions . I have a short Small size 1080p Video , about 8 MB , I drag it into project panel and then put it into timeline hence it creates a sequence . There are no Effects and nothing added to timeline , just a small simple video . The Strange Problem is when I click "0" for ram preview , The video starts playing and the green bar above timeline starts to fill . When Ram preview Finishes and plays the video from beginning I See there are several frames Between which are not being loaded to Ram ! The video plays RGB color bar instead of main video and when I check the Green bar above Timeline I see that those frames are being dropped and there is no Green bar above them !
I have had this problem several times before but this time it is too important and the problem should be solved . What is obvious is that some frames are not being rendered or are being deleted after render !
Another Strange problem is that when I open Task manager , It shows AE uses around 10 GB ! of RAM when I press "0" for Ram previewing this video !
So there is a Logical explanation here , Somehow when I do ram preview this video it uses extra ordinary too much ram so AE is unable to load the full video (8 MB) into Ram and hence deletes some of frames .
most of my videos have not this problem and use acceptable amount of ram .I've had this issue with some of my videos till now .
Listen carefully : "This has nothing to do with AE preferences or low memory or plugins . because there is nothing wrong with any individual components of may hardware or software . I have far more than enough RAM for a 8MB video . My Memory has no hardware or software problem . I tested them and if there was any problem with memory or other hardware that should have affected other applications . I have the most recent AE version . I have the most Recent windows updates and drivers . I have a Clean virus free system , and as a computer engineer this strange AE problem is rarely caused by viruses , trust me . I have not any hardware instead of ones a normal PC has . I have not any problem with my whole entire system configuration because I have benchmarked my PC with several up to date softwares . I have tested my PC with almost any STRESS TESTING solutions available for really long period of time , 3 days by IDA64 . Not any driver conflict , dll missing , registry problem have been discovered , as I know perfectly how to solve them ."
I asked some of my friend whom are expert in AE . I handed them my videos and Watched ALL OF THEM HAD THE SAME ISSUE ! So the problem isn't related to my Local PC . What i believe is that there is some malfunctioning or miss coded part in AE source code that decides to reserve such a huge strange amount of ram for such a tiny 8MB video . The point is that the AE works fine , no crash or any problem report . So the AE it Self decides to allocate such huge amount of ram and thinks it is correct ! So I think this is a work around that AE developers in adobe are using to bypass a problem or conflict ! by Using more amount of RAM . I think that there might be some miss understanding between the AE and my installed codec . I installed MEGA CODEC PACK on my PC to enable some new codec supports , and so are some of Windows default de/encoders changed to new ones . I think there shouldn't be any problem But there is something wrong between AE and de/encoder modules !
Please any one with any suggestion , I really appreciate your advices .

    ###UPDATED###
Well thank you guys for your patience ...
as you considered I forgot to mention the codec itself and other stuff ...
The video is in 1080p , 35 sec long , it is a green screen shot , this video is directly downloaded from YouTube and plays perfectly on all tested PCs . here are detailed info :
    Format                                   : MPEG-4
    Format profile                          : Base Media
    File size                                 : 8.55 MiB
    Duration                                 : 34s 993ms
Overall bit rate mode                : Variable
    Overall bit rate                         : 2 050 Kbps
    VideoFormat                            : AVC
    Format/Info                              : Advanced Video Codec
    Format profile                           : [email protected]
    Codec ID                                 : avc1
Codec ID/Info                            : Advanced Video Coding
    Bit rate                                    : 1 927 Kbps
    Width                                      : 1 920 pixels
    Height                                     : 1 080 pixels
    Frame rate mode                      : Constant
    Frame rate                               : 30.000 fps
    Color space                              : YUV
    Chroma subsampling                 : 4:2:0
    Bit depth                                  : 8 bits
    Scan type                                 : Progressive
NOTICE : This video is just for testing the lighting and etc , and so the Sampling and other specs are not considered for broadcast .
I think you hit the point ! Thats K-lite codec pack installed on every machine which the video is tested on ! The point is whats wrong with it ?! I have had never ever any problem with this codec pack !!!
The deadly question : So what are the alternative ways to work with codecs that AE doesn't support ?! because installing codec looks simple and sufficient !

  • Too much RAM consumption in Photoshop CC 2014.

    Hi people,
Since the update to Photoshop CC 2014 I'm having serious problems with the amount of RAM used by Photoshop.
When opening a file (only) 245 MB big, Photoshop uses around 3.5 GB of RAM. As a result my PC is extremely slow.
This was never the case in previous versions. Files made in previous versions are now hard to work on in the CC 2014 version.
Some bigger files are now useless. It takes forever to open them and impossible to work on because of this RAM issue.
I can not open other apps or even browsers at the same time anymore, because Photoshop consumes too much RAM.
Is it normal Photoshop uses 3.5 GB RAM while the file is that small?
When comparing with other Adobe (CC 2014) software only Photoshop uses that amount of RAM.
If you look here http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/system-requirements.html#Photoshop CC 2014 system requirements and language versions
you can see the minimum requirements of RAM:
    Photoshop CS5:            1GB
    Photoshop CS6:            1GB
    Photoshop CC:             1GB
    Photoshop CC 2014:     2GB (8 GB recommended)
OK, new versions need more RAM, I understand. But in my case it seems like 6 GB is not enough.
And I have the feeling even 8 GB won't be enough too.
Can someone please tell me if there's a problem with Photoshop CC 2014, will this be solved?
Or is this normal behaviour, and should I buy more RAM?
Buying more RAM is of course the easiest answer to solve this.
But don't you think the jump from 1 GB to (minimum) 8 GB RAM is very big?
And like I said, I don't think 8 GB will cover it too. Then how much will be enough?
    Thnx in advance!
    I have:
    OS:                                Windows 7 Pro
Processor:                      Intel Xeon CPU W3550 @ 3.07 GHz 3.06 GHz
    System Type:                 64 Bit PC
    RAM:                             6 GB RAM
    Available Disk Space:     283 GB
    Kind regards,
    Lester.

    Ok, thnx for the reply!
    I bought more RAM.

  • Firefox uses too much ram

My FIrefox has been using too much RAM as of late. I have followed all the steps in the firefox support page about checking for possible plugins that may or may not be using too much RAM, but after starting firefox in safe mode, there really wasn't much of a difference. Maybe like 5k kb less, but it's still not enough to account for the 1.7million kb that firefox ends up using with one tab open.
I like to leave my pc on for a bit, and sometimes I'll leave firefox running with a tab open while I'm using other applications, but even if i restart my firefox, the RAM usage does not decrease. After closing all applications and leaving only firefox running, it appears to be around 1.5million kb. Only if i restart my whole pc does the RAM usage drop back to normal levels, and then it ramps back up after a period of time.
I would like to get this resolved soon, or at least figure out the cause of this.

  • Labview 2010 vi using too much RAM and causing Crashes

    hello everyone,
I was given a LV 2010 vi to integrate with another functionality. This Vi is used for a long time on XP and Windows 7 platform having various RAM size.it still runs fine on those PCs. This Vi has functionality that it waits for user to press start button that it reads data and plots.however i am not giving start command and it starts consuming too much RAM and resulting system Crash.
    System Config: I have Core i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz with 2 GB RAM and windows 7 .
Plz show some methods to prevent them and why it is happening.?
Note:1) i also checked my ram through windows test and it has no error.
              2) windows shows me some low disk error sometimes.
plz help me out here i am stuck here for week.
    thanks & regards

Post your VI if you are allowed, we cannot help you without that info...
If you are a beginner in LabVIEW, it will not take 1 day to gain some level. LabVIEW is a full featured programming language, it is very easy to program it wrong. I suggest you to start learn it using the online resources. You have an active LabVIEW licence? If so, you can access the "self-paced online training" via menu point "MyNI", see top of this website just next to your name (you need to connect your account to your licence in order to use the online training). Another option could be to pay for a virtual classroom course, get more info here: http://sine.ni.com/tacs/app/overview/p/ap/of/lang/en/pg/1/sn/n5nline,n24:12725/id/1582/   I did this a few years ago (Core 1 and 2.) and the tutor from NI was very professional, and it was also comfortable since you attend the class via internet from yoour home or workplace.

  • ICal Consuming Too Much RAM

    Hi All,
I have iCal 2.0.3 on two computers. It is working fine on my Dual G4. On my iBook however is has become an 800 lb. Gorilla. I noticed everything was slowing down, slow to open, slow to close, a lot "disk activity" during usage so I check the Activity Monitor. It was using over 340 MB of RAM and climbing. I've tried a bit of everything. Tossed all of the caches, all of the Pref files, tossed the application itself, restarterd so the "Helper App" would not be active, then copied a new copy from the G4.
The problem continues. It is using WAY TOO much RAM. I'm reinstall it, but I could only find the 1.5.5 version at Apple.
If anyone has an insight to the issue, or can point me to a fresh installer...I'd really like that.
I was going to install 1.5.5 and have Software Update do an upgrade, but no dice. Installer will not work with Tiger.
    Using 10.4.7
    iCal 2.0.3
    John

500 Mhz G3 as per my profile. Seems to me the installer would not have installed iCal if there were some hardware incompatibilty.
I've trashed every, Pref, Cache, and the folder for iCal for App Support thinking it would create a new one and it did. I quess I can use the one on my G4 and have it send notifications via email. No trouble on that model.
I don't know when I recall it happening. Could have been from Tiger all along. After hearing all the disk activity the other day I checked the Activity monitor and saw the huge amount of RAM and CPU time.
This has been a bugger of an app. I did some beta testing for Apple on this application when it was 1.5.2. Complained bitterely about the initial inability to have a floating event window and they asked me to help test it.
This is about the strangest problem I've seen in more than ten years of using a Mac.

  • Firefox consumes too much RAM, caused by js

I'm having problems with Firefox consuming too much RAM memory. Several people are complaining about this but I did some further research before posting here, using about:memory, and I found out that js-non-window and js-main-runtime are causing this.
When I start up a blank Firefox session I immediately have an allocation of 260MB of RAM. About 75-80% of this is taken up by those two js (javascript?) processes.
After opening about 10 tabs with different webpages the RAM usage has gone up to about 750MB. During the time the tabs are open most of the extra MB's are consumed by the window-objects (40MB per page, still seems quite a lot to me for just a news site with one article...) but after closing them the memory usage didn't go down and it transferred to the two already mentioned js processes. This transfer to the js processes is not always the case, it seems to happen only if I open a lot of tabs, let's say 10+ perhaps.
I tried disabling Javascript using the plugin SettingSanity, but this makes browsing quite uncomfortable of course and worst of all it doesn't solve the problem. The mentioned processes keep using the same amount of RAM.
I have this exact same problem on all my computers and laptops so it can't be a coincidence. Is there nothing I can do about this? Is this under investigation? How can a browser with 10 web pages open need almost 800MB of RAM?
And please don't answer "install more RAM". The pc I have most problems with has 2GB of physical RAM and I really do think that opening 10 web pages should be possible on such a computer. Doing the same in Internet Explorer consumes less than half the amount of RAM memory.
P.S: I sent this query using IE because I could't get to this page in Firefox. The "Ask This" button didn't work...

Try in Firefox's safe mode disable all plugins, and open with only a new tab set by using ''about:blank'' . As suggested above also consider as a test creating and using a new Firefox profile.
When I start like that I have around 70MB explicit shown in ''about:memory'' and that includes ''js-non-window'' of around 30MB
I know in the past I have opened more than 10 tabs on a machine with less than 1GB ram installed and not noticed problems.

  • Bridge memory leak/using too much ram

I just built a new PC tower for business use and installed PS, ID, LR, and BR CC trials.  I already have all of these (CS5) on my personal laptop, all work fine.  Bridge on the new tower has been using WAY too much ram/caching too much and crashing everything.  I'd changed cache preferences, purged the cache several times, and within days it is back at it again.  PC specs: 8 core AMD processor, 16GB ram, 2x 3TB HDD
This is being used to show photos, edit, burn and print at events.  I cannot keep closing bridge every half hour to keep my computer running.  Right now bridge is NOT keeping 100% previews in cache, exporting cache to folders, cache size is about 25,000.  If bridge is going to crash every half hour on a machine with 16GB of ram, while CS5 ran fine on my laptop with only 4GB something is seriously wrong.  At this point I don't know if I should actually subscribe to CC or just move my CS5 to this new computer.

I have tried to analize better what happens. In the dashboard I only have a calendar, a calculator, a clock and one postit (but there is nothing writen on it). If I use something in the dashboard, for example, the calculator, and I do some multiplications, after a couple of minutes the use of memory of the dashboard starts to increase. I closed any other program and in some minutes I have sen how it increased until I stopped the process when it was using more than 2GB! (you can see it in the picture). It's very strange! (Thank you very much for your help!)

  • Too Much RAM??

Hi guys, long time first time. Three weeks ago I bought 1 gb of RAM from Crucial for my iBook (1.2 GHz - OSX 10.4.1) because it only came with 256mb and it started to show signs of major slowdown. Anyway, I've installed the new RAM and now my iBook is FLYING!!! However I just started noticing this week that Safari keeps hanging on me. Pages I visited normally like ESPN, Yahoo, etc are suddenly getting the "beachball" and I have to force quit. It's been pretty constant now. Could this be the new RAM? Was it too much? Thanks for you help guys!!

Except in very specific circumstances saying "Too much RAM." is like saying "Too much happiness."

  • My MBP mid 2014 is using too much RAM

My MBP mid 2014 is using too much ram on kernel task, and some others what can I do to fix this?

To add to Tim's excellent advice, look at my numbers for my  quad-core i7 iMac with 12GB RAM installed:
As you can see, the system has reserved almost all the available RAM but the swaps are zero and the memory pressure is on the bottom of the scale. My computer runs very fast.
RAM handling in OSX changed with OS10.9 and continues in 10.10. The measures you were using only apply to Mac OSX 10.8 and older.
If your swaps move up into the Gig range, you are probably using a bunch of RAM. You cannot upgrade RAM in a 2014 Retina model so it behooves you to avoid third-party utilities like "FreeMemory,"  keep an eye on Safari extensions, and be frugal with your user login items (System Preferences > Users and Groups > {your account} > Login Items tab).

  • My MacBook Pro is using too much RAM.

    Hello,
I have got Apple MacBook Pro 13.3” (ME865LL/A) with OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 and I’ve noticed that my MacBook is using too much RAM. I'm doing nothing, I've got opened only my Google Chrome web browser and my notebook is using about 6,6 GB RAM of 8,0 GB... Have you ever had problem like my? I was reading about Memory Booster - RAM Optimizer. What do you think about that?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I don't use any AV software - if you just keep a watch on what you download and where it's from, you've no need for it, either.
See The Safe Mac -> Mac Malware Guide. There is some malware and adware for Macs, but no viruses (although you can pass them along to your Windows friends!).
