Windows uninstalled itself? or magically disappeared...please help

ok, so about 3 or 4 months ago, my brother installed windows 7 proffesional on my macbook pro with snow leopard via bootcamp. everything was fine until yesterday, i was browsing the web and windows just shut down my computer. i thought that was weird and just started up my computer again, and upon hearing the start up chime, i help the alt key (because my default start up is my mac os x). now normally when i hold the alt key, two hardrives appear, one labeled macintosh and one labeled windows. When i held the alt key this time, only the Macintosh appeared. I logged into my mac osx then and went to system prefs and chose my default startup to be windows (because i can still find the windows hard drive in my finder and all the files i had on my windows). i did this and this message appeared "No bootable device - - please insert boot disk and press any key to continue".
Does this mean my windows just randomly uninstalled? has this happened to anyone else and more importantly, does this have a fix? this is really annoying and i need my windows for some of my daily tasks on the computer. please help.

thanks for your help, but when i inserted the windows disk, i pressed "any key" like it said and nothing happened. Still having trouble with this after a week of attempting solutions.

You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.

Reset the device did not help me but it does triggers me to attempt to resend the PDF file attachment on email--and it works the 2nd time. My problem is now solved.
The Adobe Reader is very helpful--it allows me to scroll through the document easily, unlike iBooks, where I cannot scroll straight up or down.

ITunes wont open, cant uninstall, cant upgrade, cant reinstall. please help

with those symptoms, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.

next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:

now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?

Purchased a Movie, which has just disappeared - PLEASE HELP!!!

A few hours ago, I purchased a Movie from the iTunes store which took 3 hours to download to my iPod touch which cost £6.99. A soon as it finished, I took then plugged it into my PC to transfer the purchase to my iTunes library, for a backup.
Whilst I was doing this, iTunes (as per usual) froze on me when it was syncing and did not respond at all when I moved and clicked an area of the open window. Because of this, I was forced to quit iTunes and re-open it again, to try and get the film onto my PC.
When I connected my iPod to iTunes again, the Movie disappeared from my iPod and there was no sign of it anywhere on my PC either. Where is it?!
Because of this and un-aware I had to pay £7 again to download the movie on my iPod, I repeated the whole process and as before, the file just went missing on both my iPod and PC.
You may ask "Why didn't you purchase it through iTunes on your PC?" and the reason why is because the iTunes Store doesn't work on the PC any more. I've tried hundreds of new and old solutions to fix this and none of them seem to work. I've disabled EVERY type of firewall that could potentially be blocking me using the store, disabled all spyware programs and it still won't work.
I feel very angry and annoyed here, as I've spent £14 on 1 film I've tried to get twice and attempting to find a missing file that never appeared on my PC.
So how do I resolve this constant freezing probelm with iTunes, how do I get the iTunes Store working again, and most importantly, is there any way of me getting my £14 back? Please help!
Any answer will be greatly appreciated.

There is no 'f' in the loop, I don't understand what the loop would evaluate, unless k is a constant in which case the loop is redundant.

If k is a function of frequency you need to say what that function is. For example if you are evaluating 'k' for changing 'f' and applying it to the equation for R. I don't know what the best procedure would be but my first port of call would be nested loops: 'R' for each 'k' for each 'f' ?
In the absence of a function for k this vi would evaluate you formula for k=f, I don't know if this wil help any.

Lightroom 2.5 on Windows 7 will not show previews - Please Help

I just converted my system from Windows Vista (32 bit) to Windows 7 (32 bit). I have 2 monitors. The first monitor normally shows all my photos in a Grid view; however the grid now shows no pictures but file data is still there.. when you place the cursor over the spot where a picture should be there is no picture displayed but the bottom of the screen shows the file name & path and the rating that I have assigned the photos (ie 5 Stars) shows in the normal position.
I have Uninstalled Lightroom 2.5 and reinstalled it but the problem remains.
Please Help.

IIRC, this is a monitor profile issue. See if you can change the Profile on the monitor to something like sRGB- or anything for now. Also, running in mirror mode- does that cure it?

All Entourage events and Tasks just disappeared - PLEASE HELP

This is what JUST happened to me. Everything between Entourage 2008, iCal and my iPhone had been working fine for a couple months. Then, about 3 days ago, my iCal calendar went blank and so, of course, did my iPhone.
After reading some discussions and finding that this was not uncommon, I tried what seemed to be the common fix:
1. In the Entourage sync settings,
2. Turn off 'sync with iCal';
3. Delete the 'Entourage' calendar from iCal;
4. Go back to Entourage and turn 'sync with iCal' back on.
After doing this I was prompted, during the subsequent sync, to resolve conflicts. Of course I chose for all events from Entourage to erase those on iCal. That's where the 'fun' began.
First, almost every event in Entourage duplicated, but still nothing in iCal. Then, AS I WATCHED THE SCREEN, one-by-one every single event in my Entourage calendar DISAPPEARED!!! Finally, in iCal, the 'Entourage' calendar symbol re-generated itself, but no events whatsoever. So now every single event in my entire calendar is gone! All tasks have been erased as well.
Can anyone PLEASE tell me a way to recover those events in Entourage. This is my only work calendar and it was chock full. Unfortunately, I'm not on Leopard on this machine, so I can't use Time Machine.

It sounds like you might be using two different applications for taking notes. That could get confusing. Have a look at this tutorial on using the Notes application that comes with iPad. Heya! Basically when installing the software for Microphoto it stops saying that as my device hasn't been tested for use with windows it cant install for fear of corrupting my laptop! Can anyone help me overcome this because i installed it aagges ago and it let me have the option of continuing the installating, but i had 2 uninstall it and upon reinstalling it it does not give me the option to continue. It just cancels the installation. Can someone please help me as this is driving me nuts!! Y is it that technology is continuosly mucking up grrrrr!

Are you runnning Win XP SP2? If so, this is a standard warning about unsigned drivers, but it should still give you the option to "continue anyway" to complete the installation.
Also, make sure you have Windows Media Player 0, as this is needed for Windows XP (drivers) to recognize your MicroPhoto.

How to Open a New window from a List region Link, Please help

I am trying to get a new full window( Not popup window) open from a list region link. The list region entry is an Image. I get the new page open, but it is not in new window, it is in the same window.
I know I have to give the target = "_blank" somewhere. But In List region, I dont know where to add this.

IPod nano (5th gen.) being recognized by computer (Windows XP) but not iTunes. Please Help.

When I plug in my iPod nano 5th generation, my computer is recognizing it, but iTunes is not. I just recently bought it off of a friend and it was working perfectly. Today is the first time that it wouldn't connect to iTunes. I have tried using different USB ports and that didn't work. I plugged in my sister's iPod Touch and it worked fine. I don't want to have to try to uninstall/reinstall iTunes for fear of loosing some of the information on there. I have also read several things that say that that doesn't work, so I don't see any reason to take a pointless risk. If there is anything that I can do to get it to work? I would try another computer, but my home computer is the only one that I have. I really need to get it to work ASAP. PLEASE HELP!!

If you check other error problems linked to this issue (example errors 1437 and 1439), you will note that these recognition issues have been prevalent for a lot of iPods (not only nanos and suffles) since iTunes version 7.5 went away. Seems like Apple doesn't have a clue, and doesn't want to have a clue. Many people all over the world have come up with things that have worked for them, but none of those fixes are working for me any more. Maybe this is just Apple's way of forcing people to buy their brand computers. It stinks. I am at a total loss as to what to do to get my Nano recognized at all in iTunes, and my Shuffles to sync. Obviously we are all venting our frustrations on an Apple hosted discussion board. Equally obvious is that no one at Apple is reading this stuff, further displaying that Apple simply does NOT CARE.
If I ever in the next couple of years or so (see, I am not very optimistic) get an HONEST answer out of Apple, or a workable solution elsewhere around the internet, I'll do a follow-up post here. But, I am not very hopeful. I think my iPods have just become expensive chunks of junk, because I am NOT going to buy an Apple computer just for them.

HP 4540s will not activate windows 8 from HP recovery dvds, please help

I'm trying to migrate my HP from the harddrive to a new ssd I bought. As far as I know windows 8 is supposed to activate based on the code burned into the machines bios, so I bought some hp recovery dvds online as HP recovery manager no longer seems to ship with these machines, so I couldn't make one, and reinstalled windows 8 onto the machine. After install and connecting to the internet the activation failed, it said the key was blocked. This can't be, this machine came with windows 8 preinstalled, so it must have a valid key and license I've already paid for.
I've tried burning reinstall media using the microsoft media creation tool but that too fails once it connects to the internet to validate the activation
I would prefer to fresh reinstall, I'm not even sure the drive I took out works anymore or isn't altered at this point, plus its larger than my ssd so cloning would be a problem. And I've also read of problems cloning windows 8 secure boot installs regardless. In any case I would like to some how be able to get this recovery to work.
Can someone from HP please help me.

I'm sorry to read that you are having issues with your Sync account.
Your best bet is to follow the steps described in this blogposts and open a bug:

After that, if you don't want to user Sync in your computer, you can stop it with this simple steps:
* At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP) and then click Options.
* Once the options window opens, click on the Sync tab.
* At the bottom of the Sync tab click on '''Deactivate this Device''' link
