Windows update 80072efd error on Satellite A200

Hello
Windows update doesnt work on my Satellite A200. When I try to search for new updates, after about 10 minutes appears error 80072efd. Of course Ive made all suggested solutions, but no results. Operating System is Vista Home Premium and there is Norton Internet Security installed as a firewall.
Ive tried to start windows update, when Norton firewall was turned off, but the result was the same error 80072efd.
Does everyone know what can I do more?
Regards
Piter

I see this problem quite regularly at work when trying to do the 1st update of a new installation of XP (is this your O/S)
The problem seems to be the update of the update service if that makes sense. What I have found is that if I manually install the necessary updates then the next stage works.
Download (www.microsoft.com/downloads and search for them) KB893803 and KB842773 and install them, you may get a message that one of them is already applied. These are two of the three files downloaded when you initially try to update a new build. The third does not matter but I normally find this then fixes the error.
Also go through the regional and keyboard settings carefully and make sure they all match, I had this once where the time zone did not agree with the localisation option. Kerberos security will not allow connections if the PC clock is wrong to the server and if you are in the wrong time zone then it see this as the clock being wrong.

  • Some Microsoft Windows Update cannot be insatlled - Satellite A200-W00

    Hi,
I Have been having a problem with updates on my Toshiba Satellite A200-W00 Machine. I have two particular updates that continuously fail.
I have been in contact with a Microsoft personnel who has been sending me step by step trouble shooting to try but I've had no luck. These updates are:
*Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista (KB956390)*
*Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB955519)*
*Security Update for Windows Vista (KB953155)*
This was one of his emails
From the problem description, I understand that several updates failed to be installed, and you have tried some troubleshooting suggestions, but the issue still persists. If there has been any misunderstanding, please let me know.
Given this situation, the issue may occur if the related system files are corrupted. In order to continue troubleshooting it, please first temporarily uninstall the security programs, and test the update again. If still failed, please take your time and try the following steps to repair the system.
    In-place upgrade
    ==========
Though this operation will not remove or modify the installed programs and files, I still suggest that we backup the important files before doing this. In addition, we may have to reinstall the device drivers after this operation. Thank you for your understanding.
    1. Start the computer and access Windows Vista.
    2. Insert the Windows Vista DVD in the computer's DVD drive.
    3. Use one of the following procedures, as appropriate:
If Windows automatically detects the DVD, the Install now screen appears. Click Install now.
If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps:
    a. Click Start, click Run, type Drive:\setup.exe, and then click OK.
Note: Drive is the drive letter of the computer's DVD drive.
    b. Click Install now.
    4. When you reach the Which type of installation to you want screen, click Upgrade to upgrade the system files of Windows Vista.
After it completes, please try to update again.
Please try the above steps and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If there are any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.
I look forward to your reply.
    Best Regards,
    Bill
However Vista was preinstalled on my laptop and obviously I don't have the disc. Anyone know where I can get hold of it or have the same problem with similar updates. I've tried disabling my antivirus, firewalls, antispyware disk checks, clean ups etc and nothing.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

In my opinion updates issue have nothing to do with notebook manufacturer and I also think that Microsoft is the right address where you must ask for help.
About missing recovery DVD there are no many options for you. If you don't have it you can order new copy for you. The right address is https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
    Bye and good luck!

  • Potential Windows Update database error detected 0x80070490

This is the response I get when I run the Windows update troubleshooter from the Windows 8.1 Action Center.  If I click next it reports the errors have been fixed.  However if I run it again it reports exactly the same errors.
After searching the Internet I have found that several users have reported having this issue.  As result of the aforementioned search I have tried the following:
    1) Run the Fixit tool for Windows 8.1 located at:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us.
    2) Run the System Update Readiness commands: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth and DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth located at:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/en-us.
    3) Saved contents of C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 to a temp folder and then deleted contents of C:\Windows\System32\catroot2.
    4)Renamed C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old
    5) Restarted Windows 8.1.
    6) Verified that C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 and that C:Windows\SoftwareDistribution folders had been rebuilt.
    7) I then ran the Windows update troubleshooter from the Window 8.1 Action Center again and got the same response as listed above. The errors still exist and are not fixed.
    8) Finally, I downloaded Windows 8.1 Enterprise Evaluation and I did a completely new clean install of Windows 8.1 and without installing anything else (no updates, no software, no antivirus) the above errors appeared within minutes after connecting
to the internet.  I checked using the Windows update troubleshooter several times before connecting to the Internet and each time no problems were found, but shortly after I connected the above errors are shown to exists.
Any suggestions that will help fix this issue will be of great help.

Did anyone ever find an actual fix for this problem?  I have a very similar problem.  I have gone through the same steps for fixing my issues with getting a message of problems found every time I run the Windows Update troubleshooter.  It
continually finds what it says are Potential Windows Update Database error detected 0x800700D and says they are fixed, along with another message saying Windows Update components must be repaired and it says they are fixed as well.  However, each time
I run the troubleshooter it finds the same issues.  I have no problems running Windows Update under Windows 8.1 and them all installing without issue, yet I can't download or update ANY apps within the MS store and like the problem above, when it looks
for my apps it says it's having problems finding them and to try later.  If I try to download even a free app, I get an error message that something happened and your purchase can't be completed. Error code: 0x80096004.
I have dug through everything I can find on this error message and tried changing my sign in on my laptop to a local account, created a new MS account to access the store and continue to get the same error message.  I have tried it with my Kaspersky
Internet Security 2015 turned completely off.  I've also ran SFC scannow and there are no errors and have ran DISM which found a problem but says it was fixed.  After running it again, there were no errors.  I have no other problems with anything
else (that I know of on my machine).  It is an Asus Q400A and came with Windows 8.0.  I ran all the updates and then upgraded to 8.1 through the MS store without issue.  I have installed all updates since upgrading to 8.1 and have absolutely
no problem running ANY updates, but can't seem to access the store no matter what I try.
If anyone has found a solution to this I'd appreciate your input.  Hard to believe MS would put out a product that has such a basic problem that has affected so many users and can't seem to come up with some resolution that doesn't require registry
editing, running commands from elevated command prompts, and a CS degree to resolve--there are soooo many issues online regarding this kind of error and others related to running SFC and DISM...most ending up in their ultimate default answer....renew or reinstall
Windows and all the updates....which still doesn't resolve the problem for many!  I've always been a PC guy, but I'm starting to like the MacBook Pro I picked for work related reasons with great hesitation.  I've wasted more time chasing this issue
down than I all the time I've spent actually using the Mac without even a hitch!
Thx in advance for any feedback....please no MAC blasting....at this point, it would be not well received!!

  • Display driver error on Satellite A200-14D

    Hi,
When i try to install on my Toshiba laptop(Satellite A200 14D with XP) a game...... i get an error message saying "Could not initialize graphics system. Make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with "DirectDraw"
How can i get help with this problem?!
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi,
you have several options to solve that problem.
First, check the [Toshiba Driver Download Site|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp] for the newest drivers. If they dont help, go to [Laptopvideo2Go.com|http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/] which is also really good site with vga drivers.
Sideways you should update your [DirectX|http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en] to the latest version.
Please give a post back if nothing helped.

  • KB2538242 Windows Update fails, Error Code 80246003

    Server 2012 R2 Standard.  64bit.
It is June, 2014, but I am having difficulty applying this old update:
2011 Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ Service Pack 1 Redistribution Package (KB2538242).
There are some MS articles & discussions in this forum dating to 2012 regarding similar failure, but none have helped.
One says MS was going to replace this update with a different one.  Perhaps that is why discussion ended.
If so, what is the replacement & why am I asked to install this one, not the new one?
There are repeated failures, sometimes several in 1 day,  since 1st attempted Apr. 2014 until now.
One of the linked-to articles call for running MS Mr. Fix It.  Is that applicable to servers or only PersonalCs?
Thank-you in advance for your attention,
    Chas. Stevenson

  • Fan speed increases and windows 7 freeze on my Satellite A200

I am using Toshiba Satellite A200-24A (PSAE3E) from 3 years now. It came pre-installed with Vista. Last year i switched to Winows 7 Ultimate. Everything was fine.
4 months ago, i switched to Windows 7 Enterprise N. Hated to see no Windows Media Player in it. Now the problem is, during online video streaming (not always the case), my fan speed inceases, so do its sound, and my hard drive gets real busy. 10 seconds later, my window is freezed. Actually, its not responding due to excessive hard drive usage.
I read many articles over the internet, lots of toshiba users are facing the same problem when using Windows 7. But, i couldn't find any solution to it.
This problem started 3 months ago, then for sometimes, it stopped itself. now, it started again 3 weeks ago. If anyone can help me regarding this issue, i will me more than grateful.
    Here are my specs:
    Windows 7 Enterprise N. Service Pace 1
    1.73 Dual core
    Ram 3GB
Hard Disk partitions 75 GB + 75 GB

I presume CPU usage goes to 100% and result is freezing. Can you identify background process that can be responsible for this?
    > I read many articles over the internet, lots of toshiba users are facing the same problem when using Windows 7. But, i couldn't find any solution to it.
Your opinion is too general. Lot of Toshiba users have a lot of different problems with Windows7. My notebook was also delivered with Vista and since one year I use Win7 32bit and everything works perfectly.
    > This problem started 3 months ago...
This make the whole situation more complicated. What have you done 3 months ago? Have you changed some settings, installed some additional software that can be responsible for this?
Unfortunately it is not easy to help in this situation.

  • Unable to autoconnect to Wifi network after installing Windows update 8.1 - Toshiba Satellite - Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG-netwerkverbinding

Hello, got a problem connecting to my wifi: every time I start up my Laptop (5 year old Toshiba Satellite L300) the wificonnections are listed but windows is unable to connect to the WIFI. Wificonnection states unable to connect, after running Windows Network
Control the issue is found en the WIFI connects correctly.
I need to run the troubleshooter every time after staring up windows in order to get my wifi running, this is rather annoying..
Does anybody have a solution? I downloaded and installed the latest driver from intel, and also tried to enter below without any improvement.
netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)
     see below error report:

    Hi,
With the google translate, It seems that you are facing with the following problem:
A network cable is not connected correctly or may be damaged
Problem with wireless adapter or access point
For this issue, I suggest you try the following steps:
Try with another account, or test with another system, another cable.
    Reinstall network adapter.
Open  Device Manager then Network Adaptors, find the wireless NIC and choose properties then open the power management tab and uncheck the one that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
Test this issue in safe mode with networking
Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode)
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode
Does this work? and I would be appreciate if you could update the diagnostics with English.

  • Recovery to Windows Vista problem for my Satellite A200-10X

My computer was working OK. To speed it up, I decided to reformat the hard disk using the recovery DVD provided by Toshiba. The recovery failed. I have tried many many ways but keep having the same problem i.e. the process goes into a loop.
What happens can be summarized as follows: When I power-on the computer using the recovery DVD in disk drive, the computer goes into loading the windows files and then formats the hard disk, but stops about 18% through the progress. Everytime this happens the problem starts at (X:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe) where it is at ImageX Tools for Windows; and mentions that C:Program Files\Toshiba\HD2Go\sea160s_HD.wmv........WimCopyF ileEx failed. Other errors are: Error restoring image; The Drive is not ready; and ERROR: ImageX could not apply VISTA E:\05006XSP.swm Index 2 from ODD to C:\!; press any Key......And the screen goes white. There is another screen window when ithis happens, which says Administrator: X:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe open in DOS. After closing this window the Screen goes blank and the computer for while and then opens in a window called Windows Boot Manager, and says that windows failed to start, winload could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
If I try booting from the recovery HDD, there is no success. I tried powering the computer while pressing C, or pressing 0(zero) or F8, but no success. I can not go to the page where I can repair the HDD as mentioned in the users manual.
I even tried loading an old version of XP, which got loaded but would not recognize the USBs, or sounds, or DVD drive, etc.
    Please help.

    Hi!
Can you try a Windows XP installation disk with SP2? I think its normal after using a Microsoft installation disk and the sound will not be recognized because you need all drivers from the Toshiba website.
What you can also do is to use Microsoft installation disk, format the HDD and then use the recovery disk.
In my opinion this could be caused of a faulty recovery DVD or a faulty HDD/RAM. The hardware you can test with the Drive Fitness Test and Memtest86 (use Google for download links, all its freeware).
    Bye

  • 2012 R2 Essentials Windows Update error 80072EE2 and Dism errors 0x800f0906 and 0x800f081f

Since 11/2014 our R2 Essentials server on ESXI has been unable to run Windows Update, returning error 80072EE2. I ran the Windows Update troubleshooter which claimed it fixed something, but Windows Update returned the exact same error again. There are no
proxies or Internet access problems. I have ensured no firewall is blocking Windows Update URLs. So I tried the
sfc /scannow command which reports a file that cannot be repaired:
    2015-01-12 20:56:41, Info CSI 00000801 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:36{18}]"Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB" of prncacla.inf, Version = 6.3.9600.16384, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type = [l:24{12}]"driverUpdate", TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch
For this error others suggested running dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth which on my server tells me "The component store is repairable." So next I run
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth which instantly returns the same result that it is repairable. Next I run
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth thinking this will fix it, but it returns this error: "Error 0x800f0906 source files could not be downloaded".
Articles suggest I use a different source, so I mount the R2 Essentials DVD used to install this server to drive letter Z: and use this command:
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:Z:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess
This results in the error "Error 0x800f081f source files could not be found" and so I copy the sources\sxs folder locally to C: and re-run the last command pointing to this new location. I get the same error.
I have run chkdsk and I have tried rebooting between each of the above commands, which did not work. I have run all these commands as Administrator.
Does anyone know what I do next? I see references to these errors with several users attempting to install .NET framework but those solutions do not apply to my situation.
As a next step I considered uninstalling the last successfully installed Windows update (KB3011780) on this machine in case it broke something. Thoughts?

    Hi,
Please refer to following KB and reset Windows Update components, then check if can help you to solve this issue.
How do I reset Windows Update components?
In addition, did you check relevant log files (such as: DISM.log, CBS.log or others) whether find more clues?
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • Windows Updates Error Codes 80070308 and 80070643

Recently I have a problem with windows updates patches for this month (June 2014).  I updated 10 computers (at office), 9 of them have either the error codes 80070308 and/or 80070643.  I tried to disable the Symantec Endpoint, used the Microsoft
.NET Framework Repair Tool to fix the .Net Framework related error but still have failure.  I can still finish all the failed patches by rescanning the PC than install them; however; I still have 40 PCs need to be patched.  How do I prevent
the installation failure, all the PCs have no problem at last month.  Any suggestion, many thanks.

    Hi,
If your computer is having problems finding and installing operating system update, I suggest to
    try the windows update troubleshooter.
To run a Windows Update troubleshooter:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Update-troubleshooter
An automatic troubleshooter is available that fixes some problems with Windows Update, and it might resolve this error for you
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=windows-7
this error can appear when installing updates for Microsoft Office 2003,
to fix Windows update with error code:80070643:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-update-error-80070643#1TC=windows-7
If your computers are in a domain environment and get updated by a WSUS server, I suggest to update the group policy with the command “gpupdate /force”.
Meanwhile, if it doesn’t help, please upload the Windowsupdate.log at: C:\Windows, this will give detail error information for further support.

  • 80246002 error after installing Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320

This problem prevents Windows Update from being able to search, download, and install updates.
I am experiencing this issue on machines running Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 Enterprise (I imagine this an issue with Windows Update and not the OS so this is probably affecting other OS' as well).
This problem is becoming widespread quickly.
The proposed fix (method 1) in the article below did not resolve the problem:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958056/en-us
Note: Method 2 is not viable when applying more than one update at a time especially when you are updating multiple machines.
Several others are posting similar problems:
    http://windowsitpro.com/windows-update/tracking-error-80246002-windows-update-problem
    http://forums.techguy.org/windows-7/1132320-windows-update-problems-4.html
This is preventing scheduled server maintenance from being performed.
Could this be a targeted attack? Happening at the end of the week before a long holiday weekend is not leaving me with a very good feeling...
I would hope that fixing this issue would be a very high priority.
BTW - There is no "Windows Update Issue" forum category that I could find - If there is, sorry for posting in the wrong area.
    Cheers,
    Jeff

    My fix that worked...
Reviewed the operational log for the WindowsUpdateClient (buried in the Event viewer here:
Application and Services Logs -> Microsoft -> Windows -> WindowsUpdateClient -> Operational
After review, I noticed that event 30 "Windows Updates established connectivity" was no longer occurring and that event 42 "There has been a change in the health of Windows Update" was the only thing after the error (Event 25 "Windows Update failed
to check for updates with error 0x80246002")
Even though the machine was restarted after applying the "Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320" patch and I had tried restarting the Windows Update service, the service appears to be hung.
    Solution:
1.) restart the Windows update service
2.) monitor the operational log for the WindowsUpdateClient (refreshing every 5-10 seconds)
3.) verify that event 30 happens (you should see event 38 after restarting the service followed by (2) event 42, then event 30)
4.) Once event 30 happens go to the Windows update GUI and run the "Check for updates" - yay!
5.) You can go back into the operational log and see event 26 "Windows Update successfully found x updates" followed by an event 40 for each update found.
What is really strange is that I checked the first machine that experienced the problem and it magically fixed itself.
It seems like this may have been caused by DDOS attack on the source for windows updates that the Windows Update service connects to. Or the source location was having maintenance performed.
Regardless, in my case, this was not a problem with the OS or the patch but the inability for the Windows Update Service to establish connectivity.
    Hope that helps somebody :)
    Cheers,
    Jeff
