Windows Update and MI424-WR Router

I have seen this happen a few times where if I am updating large files through Windows Update, the MI424-WR Router seems to lose its DNS info and I lose the internet connection.  I can still communicate between computers in the house.  That is why I think it is the DNS is getting corrupted.  It happens a lot more with the VISTA OS than with the XP OS.  Anyway I have to do one of two things.  I can flush the dns which solves the problem a small percentage of the time (10%? of the time).  The other is I turn the router off and on.  This works pretty much all of time.  Any ideas?  This appears to only happen with Windows update and not with any other internet activity.  Also, it happen one time with XP but it was downloading a 284M update (full .NET SP pack).  The VISTA seems to cause problem after about 30 to 45 seconds into the downloading process.  To get around this, I try to update in small batches so I don't have to download a large amount at one time.  This seems to work pretty well but it is a pain to have to babysit the computer during the update process.  In the VISTA world, the update process seems to be a different process than going through the browser as in XP.  Don't know who to contact.  I looked on the Microsoft site and got some suggestions but they didn't solve the problem, just reduced the affect.

This sounds more like a router issue. I would first try to find a firmware update for your router and if there is one update it and see if that helps. If not I would call Verizon for a replacement.

  • Intel Matrix Storage Manager disables Windows Update and Windows Validation on Windows 7 64-bit

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad R61 8918CTO on which I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64-bit) on a new Seagate Momentus XT 750GB drive. The installation was trouble-free, as were all of the post-install Windows Updates.
Then I installed ThinkVantage System Update 4.03 and used it to install most of the available Lenovo updates. Big mistake. I'll spare you a detailed account of the hours I wasted troubleshooting, rolling back to previous restore points, and doing more troubleshooting, but it turns out that installing Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver v. 8.9.2.1002 caused Windows Update and Windows Validation to fail.
Symptoms: Windows Update control panel can't check for updates and reports that the Windows Update service isn't running when it actually is. Online Windows Validation fails and the standalone Windows Validation utility won't install. Microsoft programs that require a validated copy of Windows (e.g., Microsoft Security Essentials) won't install.
Solution: Roll back the driver for the relevant SATA controller to the previous driver.
I've reinstalled ThinkVantage System Update 4.03 and hidden the proposed Intel Matrix Storage Manager update; since then, I've used it to complete my Lenovo updates without issue.
I hope this post will help other people with this problem find the solution a lot faster than it took me!

This happened after installing a new advanced format drive with 4k-byte sectors, I'd guess.  If the storage driver doesn't report the physical sector size to Windows, update fails.
I just ran across this myself (again) putting Win 7 on a T400.
I don't know why this is still going on.  It may be that the update lists for older machines still have pre-AF-drive drivers listed.
FYI, another fix is going to the Intel site and installing the latest Matrix Storage Manager AHCI driver.  This may be more desirable than rolling back to an older driver in some cases.

  • Should I use HPSA application to install recommended HP updates, windows updates and tune-ups?

Should I use HPSA application to install recommended HP updates, windows updates and tune-ups?  I understand you can select the updates that you want to install but I always select and install the recommended updates through HPSA.

Yes you can except for BIOS update. Rest if you like, you could confirm if the version and date of the driver notified is that which is given in your HP support page.
You can follow the suggestions given in your other thread: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/HP-Support-Assistant-gt-HP-Upda...

  • Problems with windows update and fingerprint

    HI
My windows was out of date and in the coarse of trying to update it, the system runned into a problem and the only way i could get back my information was to let the system settings go back to its default settings. Following that, i find it difficult to download new updates and the fingerprint is also not working any more. Please what should i do ?

    Hi @CLEPRIS ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP-ENVY m6 Notebook and issues with Windows Updates and the Fingerprint reader software. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers that might need updating on your system.
It shows me that there seems to be interference with Software task, usually your virus protection.
You might have to disable this software and then run the Windows update.
I would suggest to uninstall HP SimplePass and reinstalled the latest version for Windows 8.1.
I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
I hope this fixes things up for you.

  • Windows Update and UAC controlled applications not working

Hi I am currently using Windows 8.1 Pro. When I try to open windows update from control panel, the computer just freezes.
I tried to stop and then restart the update service from task manager, but it didn't work. Also, while doing this, I
think I accidentally disabled the Application Experiences Service. Now, any UAC controlled apps are not opening and any task which requires administrator permission is also not working.
    PLEASE HELP!

    Hi,
It seems like system components corrupt, is there any error message when these tools doesn't work?
Please check Event Viewer if it identify this problem.

  • Windows 8.1 need help with Windows Updates and Start menu Or fix my old Windows Xp system

My beloved windows Xp has gave up after many years of working well. It stopped working a few days ago after a lightening strike.
I got this Windows 8.1 computer a few month ago  but it seems to have a problem. I stopped using it after could not get start menu to work and when back to my Windows XP system.
First problem is the start menu is not there. I tried installing something and it says it will take control or something and screen goes black. I clicked canceled quickly in order not to get a virus.
    Where is the start menu?
Second problem, Windows updates does not want to update because it needs Windows 8.1 update. This computer is already Windows 8.1. There I canceled it since it was mostly a virus. Now updates are not working.
If those can not be fixed, how can i fix my Windows Xp to get it back. It does not turn on, I press button and nothing happens. Is this something easy to fix?

Another user discovers that Windows 8.1 is not at all of what it should be.
There is no Start Menu in Windows 8 or 8.1.  However, you can restore your desktop start menu with a very good freeware application:
    Classic Shell
Windows Update comes with Windows 8.1.  There is nothing special you have to do.
It kind of sounds like you've been a bit too quick to download and run whatever you find on the Internet.  You should always research any software you're considering downloading/installing ahead of time.  Google it.  See what others say
about it.  Ask on forums.  In order to use Windows effectively and safely you need to expand your knowledge and become a more sophisticated user.
If you think your new system has become infected, you might want to consider Refreshing or Resetting it to a clean state, or at least visiting one of the anti-malware forums and getting some advice on cleaning it up.  But beware, a lot
of "blind leading the blind" happens on forums.  Always try to read between the lines, and question what people say.
You could consider leaving XP behind.  Its time has come and gone, and pretty much any newer version of Windows can actually give you better service than XP - once you get it tuned up.
It's possible to make Windows 8.1 more functional than XP and about as functional as Windows 7, but it takes a fair bit of effort in reconfiguration and installation of some well-known 3rd party applications that are good (which, unfortunately, most
    on the internet are not).
    Good luck to you.

    Hi,
This structure is a general Windows Error report structure. There are different meanings for different types.
For the details, you could read this article:
    WerReportSetParameter function
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb513626(v=vs.85).aspx
For your specific error, we could get these:
P1: 7.6.7600.320 means Windows agent version.
P2: 80246002 means the exact error code
    P3: D67661EB-2423-451D-BF5D-13199E37DF28
should be the specific Windows Agent GUID.
    Let's verify it:
Look for this GUID in your Windows Update log file located in C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log. There you could verify if it's a Windows agent.

  • Is there any "contraindication" about installing every updates from Windows Update (and Intel drivers)?

    Hello!
The question is in the title.
I decided to reinstall Windows 7 on my MacBook Air using Boot Camp and I'm trying to play a video game which is quite laggy. I downloaded and installed the lastest driver for HD Graphics 4000 and my computer didn't explode. Can I also download all the optional updates with Windows Update, including the ones concerning drivers? I read somewhere that we shouldn't install other drivers than the ones on the Boot Camp x.x Support Software installer... Is it true?
    Thanks!

    Peter,
From what I read, I thought Internet based clients always download from Microsoft Windows Update first?
"New in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, when you have a software update point that is configured to accept connections from the Internet, Configuration Manager Internet-based clients on the Internet always scan against
this software update point, to determine which software updates are required.
However, when these clients are on the Internet, they first try to download the software updates from Microsoft Update, rather than from an Internet-based distribution point. Only if this fails, will they then try to download the required software updates from
an Internet-based distribution point. Clients that are not configured for Internet-based client management never try to download the software updates from Microsoft Update, but always use Configuration Manager distribution points."

  • Windows Updates and Sysprep

    Hi,
I need to hide an update, I did this in Control panel (Everything worked so far).
When I Sysprep and deployed image, the hidden update was available to install (not more hidden).
Can we hide an update permanently?
    N.A.Malik

    Hi!
Unfortunately this is isn't possible to achieve when running sysprep, if you are in a domain and this should affect many computers, I would install WSUS and make all settings from here.
If it's on one computer only, or a few, another user posted a script here that will hide certain updates:

  • Windows Updates and DAG

It looks like Microsoft recommends installing rollups for Exchange on DAG members manually:
"However, we recommend that you download the update rollups from the Microsoft Download Center and then install them manually."
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee861125(v=exchg.141).aspx
But what about Windows OS updates in general?
Could those be installed via Windows Update "normally" ?

Agreed. When we want to install Exchange update rollup or install operating system updates on DAG members, we need to put the server into maintenance mode first.

    Hi forgive,
    Thank you for your question.
CAU update is for window update instead of Exchange update, so CAU will not work for Exchange.
The following steps updated Exchange server 2013:
Preparing AD is the first step:
Insert Exchangfe Server 2013 CU image on DC server and use setup.exe /PrepareSchema /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms command to prepare AD shcema
Then use Setup /PrepareAD /Organizationname:XXX /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms command to prepare AD
Upgrading Exchange Server 2013 mailbox role is the second step:
With the DAG, we firstly find PAM(Primary Active Manager) role using
    Get-DataBaseAvailabilityGroup <DAG name> -status | Format-List PrimaryActiveManager
    command;
Then we move all active database to PAM server and use Set-MailboxServer –DatabaseCopeAutoActivationPolicy:Blocked
    to prevent database move to target mailbox node;
    Now we could install CU on non-PAM mailbox node, we will restart Exchange server after installation was finished;
    After restarting server, we use Set-MailboxServer -DatabaseCopyAutoActivationPolicy:Unrestricted command to unrestricted this node;
    Then we move all database from PAM node to new version mailbox server node;
We followed step 2 to step 4 to upgrade another DAG node.
Upgrading Exchange server 2013 CAS role is third step:
This step is no additional explanations, insert Exchange Server 2013 CU image on CAS server, click
Setup.exe to upgrade, when it finished, we can see the result, and do not forget restart this server.
The last step is upgrading Exchange Server 2013 management console:
This step is no additional explanations, we insert Exchange Server 2013 CU image on remote console server, click Setup.exe to upgrade, when it finished, we do not forget restart this server
Notice:  we suggest Window update is prior to Exchange update.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

  • Check Windows Update and Remote by Azure PowerShell

    Hi everyone,
I've been dealing with a case in which my recent security update has broken the AD authentication. As a result, I can't remotely connect to the virtual machine by RDP. I'm wondering whether it's possible to check and remove Windows Update by Azure PowerShell
    from my laptop.
Your suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,

  • Downloaded latest Itunes and Windows Update and everything fell apart

Okay, I dl'd the latest Itunes and Windows Update today and turned off my computer. When I came back and turned it on, it became really slow and the style for all the "windows headings" turned "gray classic theme." I tried running Itunes and a box comes up saying that I "Do not have access to change the Catalyst Control," my ATI driver I think (x1300). Then it says that I can't run Itunes because the audio is configured wrong. I go to my Audio settings in the "control panel" and everything is grayed out except the hardware choices. I clicked on their properties (SigmaTel Audio), but nothing would come up for 45 minutes. I am barely running in VGA mode and cannot access the internet connections in IE, thus barring me from Microsoft's updates. Sorry if it's hard to understand, but I'm ****** because I can't listen to all the new stuff I bought on Itunes yesterday Does anyone have any clues or ideas?
