Windows Update breaks Lenovo Miix 2 Sensors, system refresh unavoidable

Hi everyone,
Been playing with the Lenovo Miix 2 for a few days now, and I have been experiencing some annoying issues.
I've done about 3x System refresh so far and on my 4th as I'm typing this...
I don't know the exact root of the problem, but I do know that one of the windows update is breaking the sensors causing it to malfunction and breaking some functionalities.
Accelorometer doesn't work at boot, need to disable and re-enable the sensor in device manager.
Trying to use the search or PC settings functionality in Metro UI freezes the tablet.
With each refresh, I've made sure that no driver updates are selected, but that didn't seem to help.
And the most annoying part is refreshing the tablet takes forever... (2-3 hrs)
If anyone knows has the same problem or any insight on what is causing this? please share your knowledge

After some research, I found a thread on the German Lenovo support forum, having problems when installing the following updates:
Update Windows 8.1 (KB2887595)
Update Windwos 8.1 (KB2903939)
Update Windows 8.1 (KB2913320)

I havn't done any of the updates for windows, afraid that it will screw up again.

  • Windows updates for Lenovo? what is it?

    Hi,
I have just found some Windows updates in the section "Drivers and Software" for x230.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073834
    section: Windows Update
    for example
    Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) Update Module KB2482122
    Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) Update Module KB2615763
I have checked in my windows 7 Installed Updates - I do not have these updates installed.
My WIndows is reporting that it UP TO DATE.
So, what do mean these updates? Should they be installed?

    Hello,
These are hotfixes for the operating system released by Microsoft.  Not every hotfix released by Microsoft is distributed through Microsoft Update.  Sometimes, it is an issue which only affects a small fraction of computers out there, an issue may only occur in rare circumstances, and so forth. Here are the actual articles from Microsoft's support site:
Microsoft Knowledgebase Article #2482122, "0x0000009F" Stop error when you restart a Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer ...
Microsoft Knowledgebase Article #/2615763, "0x000000D1" Stop error when you connect a USB composite device to a computer that is running Window...
From reading their descriptions, plus the fact that you saw them listed on Lenovo's web site, makes me think that your model's installation of Microsoft Windows may be susceptible to the described problems.
You can try downloading the files and installing them.  If a problem occurs, you can uninstall the hotfix, or use System Restore to revert the computer to an earlier state before the hotfixes were installed.

  • SBS2011 windows update break server endless start

    Hello,
i have a problem with a particular SBS2011 install, after installing windows updates it breaks completely, upon reboot you get greeted by the "preparing to configure windows" with the animated dots but mouse is totally unresponsive, server NEVER
moves past that, after a couple of hard resets to see if it clears then after a couple minutes it says "error configuring updates, rolling back changes" and server reboots. Upon reboot again "preparing to configure..."LKG does the same,
safemode does the same, this is pretty urgent and serious as the server i down(it's been left overnight and still fails) AND i also can't update it, ever.
last time this happened after several reboots and last known good we managed to get it working(never to be updated again), this time no such luck...

    Hi,
Would you please let me know the current state of your issue? Have you get the log file that Robert Pearman provided?
If this issue still exists, please press Ctrl-Alt-Del and check if you can get to the logon screen. Meanwhile, you can run the Windows Update Troubleshooter to troubleshoot
this issue. If still can’t be solved, please reset the Windows Update components and then monitor this issue. For more details, please refer to the following KB.

  • Windows Update extremely sluggish/useless after system recovery.

    Hello there,
While trying to help a friend with his laptop, I have come across a bit of a problem, which seems fairly unique. After having searched the 'net and the Knowledge Base I am about as clued in as when I started, which is to say not very.
    Machine: Satellite 1800-412 (Danish).
Did: Recover system to scratch back to XP SP1a (DK).
Problem: After doing a complete system recovery using the original recovery CDs, Windows Update runs *extremely* slowly, if at all, once it gets to the point where it scans for which updates you need. I have so far managed to get one (1) update downloaded, a small one. As an update is attempted the CPU usage peaks to 100% and stays there until I give up and hard reboot, since the machine is now nearly useless and sluggish to the point of appearing frozen.
Tried to: Manually applied different updates downloaded directly from Microsoft, like Internet Explorer 6 sp1, XP SP2 (DK), different updates and patches to XP, downloaded and checked/tried to reinstall drivers from Toshiba (they are up to date). Checked that systems boots cleanly with all devices recognized. Checked the system clock. Searched the Toshiba KB, searched the internet, searched the Toshiba support forum. Pulled some hair in desperation. I must have restored the system 4 times by now in order to try different ways of patching the system with updates.
Peculiarities: It is apparently *only* Windows Update, which causes this problem, and only after the very first little bit, where it updates the Windows Update engine inside Internet Explorer. Before I attempt to run an update the machine apparently works normally. I can surf, download, install and run programs and what not. (No, I did not visit any suspicious websites.) If Windows Update runs automatically in the background / 'in the tray', the very same thing happens: Machine suddenly becomes useless and stays that way.
The machine is on a local area network behind a bullet proof OpenBSD firewall, no other Windows machines on the inside, so there is zero chance of a fast infection from the network causing the problem.
Unfortunately: Manually downloading and applying the patches is not an option as I want to activate Automatic Updates before handing the machine back to its owner.
Hope some of you might have an answer to this one, as I have never experienced nor heard about something similar before.
    Frank.

    Hi Stefan,
Yes, that might be a possible solution, and I have been thinking along those lines myself. The trouble being that I don't have a CD with the correct version of XP (XP Home Edition, Danish) for which the machine is licensed, and here in the middle of the holiday season I have a bit of a problem tracking one down. I even tried calling Microsoft support and Toshiba to see if they would be kind enough to mail me a spare CD. No such luck.
The machine is used by a friend of mine, who has a severe physical disability. It is his main 'communication platform' and he operates it using a single button switch interface. So every additional day of downtime is a bit of a problem. I will probably have to reinstall it for now using the SP 1a base software, then completely disabling the network interface to avoid infections while I look for a XP CD.
The closest I can come to an explanation is that 'something' that Windows Update automatically installs conflicts with the factory supplied software. The problem happens even with a completely freshly recovered setup, so I was hoping this would be a known if perhaps a bit obscure problem.
    Thanks again. :-)
    Frank.

  • Downloading Windows Update Packages for inclusion with System Image Manager

Is there a tool other than WSUS or SCCM that can download all Windows 8.1 updates for use with System Image Manager? I would like to deploy the updates along with the OS, custom drivers, and custom applications.

    Hi Sean Liming ,
The main purpose is to download all the updates for specific system version image ,right ?
I haven`t heared about such an official released tool to do this .
As for the API ,I have found a tool based on this API developed by our MSDN guys to install the updates ,but I am afraid it doesn`t meet your need.

  • KB2388210 Update from Windows Update Breaks Sound Driver

My sound card driver stopped working after I installed this update. ?I reinstalled the driver multiple times and the issue was not fixed. ?I uninstalled the update and my driver worked once again. ?I have a Xtreme Gamer Fatality card.

It's an application compatibility update. I don't think it is a common issue.
    Did you remove the update?

    What can I try now?

  • Is there any "contraindication" about installing every updates from Windows Update (and Intel drivers)?

    Hello!
The question is in the title.
I decided to reinstall Windows 7 on my MacBook Air using Boot Camp and I'm trying to play a video game which is quite laggy. I downloaded and installed the lastest driver for HD Graphics 4000 and my computer didn't explode. Can I also download all the optional updates with Windows Update, including the ones concerning drivers? I read somewhere that we shouldn't install other drivers than the ones on the Boot Camp x.x Support Software installer... Is it true?
    Thanks!

    Peter,
From what I read, I thought Internet based clients always download from Microsoft Windows Update first?
"New in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, when you have a software update point that is configured to accept connections from the Internet, Configuration Manager Internet-based clients on the Internet always scan against
this software update point, to determine which software updates are required.
However, when these clients are on the Internet, they first try to download the software updates from Microsoft Update, rather than from an Internet-based distribution point. Only if this fails, will they then try to download the required software updates from
an Internet-based distribution point. Clients that are not configured for Internet-based client management never try to download the software updates from Microsoft Update, but always use Configuration Manager distribution points."

  • SCCM 2012 Setting Windows Update GP's

Hopefully this is a simple one.
I have setup WSUS with SCCM 2012 and currently its sole purpose is for updating our WIM images however... It seems though that all of our devices that have the SCCM 2012 client installed are having their windows updates local group policy settings changed
to our distribution point and all other setting changed to not configured(overriding the settings the admins previously had in place).
I don't want the sccm client to make changes to the windows update local group policy... how can I accomplish this?

We are using a separate WSUS server to manage updates on servers and clients.
In the near future I'll attempt to transition to the WSUS I have integrated with SCCM.
For regular client machines we're pushing the windows update GP's but for our servers the system admin are managing those themselves depending on how they want windows updates to behave on their systems.

  • WIndows Updates Deployment - Downloading

I have SCCM 2012 SP1.   I have several templates setup, when deploying windows updates.
For Non-Critical systems,  updates are downloaded and installed.
for Critical \ Business Systems,  we have decided to push updates 2nd Saturday of each month.   However, it possible to push updates to clients,  stating that Updates are Available,  but not downloaded or installed ?     this
way,  the owner of the system can look in Software Center,   and see what updates are available and manually download and installed approved updates ?
    Thank you for you time...

    Hi,
If you deploy the software updates as "available" instead of "required" then the updates are available in the Software Center for selection and manual deployment instead of automatically install the updates.
    Regards,
    Jörgen

  • Windows Update disabled on Terminal Services Server

No matter which administrative account I use, local or domain, Windows Update displays a "Windows Update is managed by your system administrator" message.
I have attempted to use the /admin switch when connecting to the server.
I have executed change user /install at the command prompt.
I have attempted to run from a console directly attached to the server.
I still cannot apply the updates.  The last update was in July 2014 and I need Windows Server 2008 SP2 installed for an application upgrade.  I did not install or configure this server.  The admin that did is no longer with the company and
    is not available for support.
    Any advice is appreciated.

I found the solution. There was a local Group Policy setting that had disabled Windows Update.  The steps to correct are below.
    Local Group Policy (gpedit.msc)
    -        User Configuration
    -        Administrative Templates
    -        Windows Components
    -        Windows Update
    -        Remove access to use all Windows Update features.
It had been set to enabled.  Changed to disabled and can now get and install updates.

Lenovo Thinkpad W500, Intel (R), Windows 7, SP1, latest updates as of Oct 15
    (1) Checked Setting,  set to automatic update whenever, even changed to never update, rebooted the OS and changed back to automatic update and rebooted the OS.
    (2) Stopped Windows Update Services, renamed SoftwareDistribution folder and started the window update services and rebooted.
    (3) Ran MS FIXIT
    (4) Ran System File checker Scan (sfc /scannow)
    (5) Ran CHKDSK /F
    (6) Installed "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" drivers from Lenovo site
    (7) Ran Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB971033)
None of the above possible recommended solutions were able to fix the issue yet and now I am getting a message your Window is Not Genuine!
Any help or guidance is appreciated.

The Lenovo System Update installed the "Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver 8.9.2.1002" right before the Windows Upgrade got broken. So in the Device Manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, I choose Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller, on the Driver Tab, I choose the option "Roll Back Driver" and after rolling back the driver and restarting the OS, now Windows Update is working like a Champ!
    The End!

  • Lenovo G780 will not boot up after windows update

My friend's G780 will no longer boot up after installing a windows update, one for which she cant remember, and ever since she updated it, the lenovo boot screen will appear, then turns black, and stays black. It will, occasionally, give her the option to go to the "windows did not boot properly" screen, giving her options to refresh the pc, restore the pc, advanced options, etc.
Changing boot priorities, using "repair" did not work, and neither did trying to find a system image.
She is unsure what to do, and I am as well.
    Any recomendations?

    hi connorjacob,
    Thanks for Posting!
If you can try and get the screen again where it gave you options like Refresh PC,  Restore the PC and Advanced option.
Choose Advanced option to pull up   a new page with options
With the options, You can try:
Try Selecting System Restore and see if you can find a restore point prior to to insalling the said updates.
Select Windows Start up Settings and Find two options that can help
                  - Boot to Safe Mode (See if the computer boots in safe mode)
                  - Last Known good configuration
    Let me know your findings
    Hope this helps
    Cheers!

  • Lenovo miix 2 10 windows 8.1 key

    Dear Lenovo support Forum,
I have a Lenovo Miix 2 10"1 without keyboard, 64Gb version with office 2013 home and student license.
On my disk had 16Gb space after my programs installed.
So I tried to save the whole drive to my nas bit-to bit but I could't boot to a linux while i swithced off the secure boot.
I made a new windows 8.1 core installer prepared to Wimboot.
I Installed to the internal drive everything and after the office-updates-drivers-softwares-email-backups i have now 40Gb free space, the CPU freq now on IDLE is under 1Ghz ( better for battery) and i have more RAM.
Now I have a really big problem: I forgot to write down my original Windows 8.1 core key. How can i get it back?
I downloaded a read-write everything software ( x86) but I cannot find a same MSDN?? field at ACPI so I could not get the windows 8.1 key from the BIOS.
Is there any way to get is back? I have all of the SN noumber, etc so how?
Or from this point I have to buy a new operation system?

I tried to drop that line to a CMD as administrator but no response, about 20 seconds i got the shell back
Tried to start the  powershell and copy that line but after 2 minutes I stopped that.
You can download RWEverything utility from http://rweverything.com/ run it, select table ACPI, then tab MSDM and you can see the key. That command line command works on my miix2, I can't say why not on your computer.
