Windows update causing BSOD in my new B50-30 with DRIVER-IRQL error

Hi folks - I'm really hoping someone else has found a way to deal with a similar issue.
I bought a b50-30 about three weeks ago, and everything has been fine until the latest rounds of Windows updates. During the normal update blue screen, It got stuck (I gave it 24 hours just in case!) on "update 5 of 31", so I eventually had to force restart. That led to a blue screen with the annoying smiley emoticon for a frown, and it claimed to be "collecting some error I fo and then we'll restart for you" but it showed a 0% progress reading, which didn't change during the 12 hours I (patiently) let it run. The specific error message was DRIVER-IRQL-NOT-LESS-OR-EQUAL. Eventually I force-restarted a second time and went into Safe Mode, and the updates appeared to restart and make progress. Eventually the computer started normally again. Victory?
All was fine for a week, and then the bloody thing got stuck on the next round of infernal Windows updates, this time not getting past "28 of 61 updates". When I force restart, I get the BSOD with the same DRIVER-IRQL error message and the same 0% progress reading that won't make progress no matter how long I leave it. Unfortunately, this time, opening in safe mode won't work for me, as it merely brings me back to the identical BSOD screen. Now I have no way to restart the bloody thing at all (other than going for a full recovery, which I'm hoping to be able to avoid). I also tried the "refresh" function, which went through the percentage progress fully, but resulted in the same BSOD. Interestingly, it won't allow me to "restore".
Does anyone have any brilliant advice, other than throwing it out a window and never buying either Lenovo or Windows again?
Thanks all
EJS

hi Arie,
Welcome to the Forums.
If you;re able to see the SSD in the BIOS and/or see it under Disk Management while using the stock HDD then you may want to consider the following:
1. Boot from the stock HDD and update the BIOS
BIOS Update Utility - Ideapad 305-15IBY, Lenovo B40-30, B50-30, B50-30 touch, E40-30 Laptops
2. Update the SSD's firmware to  MU02 (latest as of this writing).
http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/support-ssd-firmware
3. Using the stock HDD, connect the Crucial SSD and convert the volume to MBR first to see if there's a compatibility using the drive as GPT.
If none of the above methods works then there's likely a compatibility issue with the SSD's controller and/or the BIOS (similar to this thread). In this case, consider using a different brand (e.g., Samsung) and observe.

  • Windows Update Causes G500/Win8.1 to basically lock up

I have a G500 with a Win 8.1 OS and windows update causes for lack of better words a lock up.
What happens is I'll restart the system and Windows Update will kick in with a couple product updates and that will take about ten min or so and then a message pops up Windows update failed reverting system settings do not turn off your PC and a little spinning wheel off to the side that just spins and spins. First time it happened I let it spin for about six hours and then did a system reinstall and everything was fine for about a day or so and Windows Update started up again with the exact same result and I ended up reinstalling the OS again.
I have Windows Update turned completely off right now.
Any idea what is going on and how to correct the problem?

    hi scjax2014,
Your issue might be similar to this thread.
The "Failure configuring updates" error message can be caused by a security software that's blocking the update (eg. Norton 360, Mcafee Internet Security, etc.)  or a BIOS setting like Secure Boot.
To isolate, can you try the following:
    1. Apply one of the resolution in this microsoft article.
    2. If same problem, try to Install the Windows Updates manually by navigating to Control Panel (large icon view) > Windows Update.and select "Check for updates" (Windows will now gather updates applicable for your machine). When finished, click on the important updates install the updates in this order (oldest ones first):
      - Critical Updates (if any)
      - Security Updates
      - Updates for Windows 8
If you still get an error, try to install the updates one by one or three at a time and observe.
    Microsoft thread:
    Error Code 800f0922 for KB2871690
Let me know how it goes.

  • 'Laserjet 1022n Windows Update' causing printing problems: print jobs don't stop printing

    Hello,
a few days ago, I installed the Laserjet 1022n Windows Update on my Windows 7 64 bits and since then, I can't print a page normally: the page doesn't stop printing. I am using a network port with TCP/IP.
I made several trials to solve this problem:
    - uninstall the printer driver and installing it again (I tried the last version on the HP site and an older one that worked perfectly before)
    - update the firmware of the printer to the last version on the HP site.
When I pause the printer and start the print job, you see it arriving in the list. Resuming the printer, the print starts on the printer but you see that the job stays in the list, flashing again and again. The printer keeps printing the same page.
I don't know what I can do to solve this problem. There is no mean of uninstalling the HP Laserjet 1022n software update because it doesn't appear in the list of installed programs (well on the list of the done updates by the way op windows updates).
I have the same problem printing on the same printer from another Windows  7 PC (with the same windows update done)
But I have no problem printing with my laptop on another network printers.
Is there someone having the same problem and how to solve it ?
    Thanks for answering

I found the solution on this site : http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/59912-29-1022n-printer-stop-printing
You just have to uncheck the chekbox "Enable two-way communication" on the "Ports" tab of the printer properties and it works normally again !!!!

  • Nokia E6 update caused bsod.

The phone worked fine the 4 hours I got to own this product including use with the nokia suite until it told me about "an important update" for my phone.
This update caused a bluescreen that bricked it, and now I have no phone.
The only software running besides it was skype and this has never happened to my PC before and will probably never happen again. I am running windows 7 64bit, and its a work pc. Searching this forum I see that this is apparently a problem.
I won this phone in a competition and have no paper of purchase for warranty.
    Thanks nokia. <3
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

blue screens of death are not caused by Nokia programs, i never had such an issue.
bad or outdated graphics card drivers, low memory or even problems with the hard disk, can cause them.
it depends on how big is the damage, if they can fix just by reinstalling the firmware, then a reinstallation is all your device might get.
in case an internal component is damaged (highly unlikely) and it's too expensive then you might get a new device.
anyway i don't think they will disassemble a device to fix another.

  • Windows Update Causing CS6 Photoshop x64 to crash at "Measuring Memory"

    Hello,
This started on the 28th when we received a batch of Windows updates on our machines. The next day the eight users who have this installed are no longer able to open the 64 bit version of Photoshop. Each time it will get to "Measuring Memory" and then crash with no events in the Event Viewer. I have tried to remove the Windows updates manually with no luck. The only way to get it back to working is to do a System Restore. When doing some troubleshooting I discovered that if I use log in on the workstation that is crashing with my account then Photoshop 64 bit will open for me and get past the measuring memory. So I tried to figure out what relationship photoshop has with the users account and all I found was the users "Settings/Preferences". I had the user log back in and went to the location of that file and removed the 64 bit version. I then opened Photoshop back up and it created a new file but still crashed on measuring memory.
If you have other suggestions or knowledge of what else is tied to the users account. I should also mention that the 32 bit version works fine on the machine for all the users.
    Thank you for your help.

    Bump. Still looking for help.
I have tried to run all Windows updates and then uninstall and re install Adobe Photoshop both 32-bit and 64-bit. The system still crashes. In the event viewer I am getting this:

  • Windows Updates causing PSD files to corrupt?

I was curious as to if anyone else has ever had an issue with Windows Updates performing (possibly the updates that came out this week for various Microsoft products) in XP causing PSD file corruption in certain files?
The situation I'm looking at is that one of our users' computer had an update, which installed yesterday. Suddenly, 2-3 PSD files (which I am able to open on my own computer) are giving an error when trying to load of "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document." Tried recreating the prefs folder to no avail.
The only solution that worked was performing a system restore to a previous date. However then today the computer reinstalled the update again and the files appeared to corrupt again and not open. Other PSD files are still opening fine (as well as importing via Place in Illustrator), its just these particular few that are not (they will not place in Illustrator, giving a similar error message saying it is not a valid file type).
Any ideas, or anyone else having similar symptoms?

  • Window update causing printer driver problems

Hi, I have a laptop running XP and wireless router (WAG54G) and a HP6380 All in one. About 2 nights ago a Windows update installed by itself and rebooted the laptop (even though I have Automatic Updates turned off as they seem to screw with anything these updates occur anyway grr)..
I went to try and print and found that the 6380 was missing from the list of available printers.. The problem is not with the wireless network (as that is connected and working). I am not sure what this windows update did.. but when I tried to reinstall the drivers for this printer from the disc, it recognised that they were already installed.. So I uninstalled them instead (and it picked up that only parts of the driver remained and it removed those parts).
So then I tried to do a fresh driver install.. which took a long time as it got stuck at the end...Eventually it came up with an error and so I tried to submit to HP - and was given a desktop icon to click on.. (HP Installation Icon - XP). I have tried it but it tells me to 1)reinstall driver (done that twice - well attempted anyway... or 2) troubleshoot Wireless printing (a non-issue at this stage given that I have no printer driver and I can use the wireless network for other things just fine)
Does anyone have any suggestions please> In the past when Windows updates have caused issues I have used System Restore to roll back but that is only a temporary solution - as Windows insists on updates that I dont want!
    Many thanks!

If you have the original HP software CD, look in the ccc/utils folder for an L3_unintsall (or similar).  Run it for a very thorough uninstall.
    Reboot.
Now, get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Driver" link at the top of this page.  DO NOT reinstall from the CD (a good rule in general is to not use software CDs, but go to the manufacturer's web site for the latest and greatest).
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

I have a thousand questions on This computer.  But the immediate question.  I hope it will not take to long to get an answer on this one..  Two questions, actually.  Cause to start figuring this I really need to know these two things:
    1. How do I find out what version Bios I have on this computer, so I can know whether it actually needs the BIOS flashed.
    2.  I have had to "restore" my son's laptop type b570, twice now after installing the mandatory updates being offered by Microsoft Updates.  For Window 7, 64 Bit, home version.  Is there a freak issue that I need to know about here?!!

  • Windows update causes all programs to fail

Just recovered from windows update using system restore. After the update, no programs would run and gave an error something like "cannot access this program - do you want to remove it". The updates are the 7 most recent updates for windows 7.
We have windows 7 pro sp1.

    Hi cisz,
""Installation failure." (Windows failed to install update.)"
It seems that some updates has not been installed correctly ,please check for any failed updates from the update history (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update\View update history)
Please take the following steps to have a troubleshoot and then check for update manually again (Manually create a restore point before checking for updates):
1.If there is any third party antivirus software installed ,please turn them off temporarily .
2.Run the built-in troubelshoot tool to have a diagnostic :
    Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\All Categories\Windows Update
    3.Clear the update cache :
    net stop wuauserv
    cd %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution
    ren Download Download.old
    net start wuauserv
After all the updates installed ,please restart the machine to make them take effect .If there is still any update installed failed, it is recommended to manually download it and install it to have a check .

  • Has the latest Windows Update caused your users issues?

Are the prompts you're referring to related to UAC? If so, that can be adjusted. Anyways, I haven't had a single issue with any of the machines that have been updated this week. This goes for Win 8.1 and Win 7 machines. :)

Since Wednesday I've had 3 different Remote Salesmen (Surface Pro 2 users) report that their computers have either crashed or have been giving annoying prompts for any program they've tried to run. Probably not related but a Windows 7 Pro user randomly mentioned that their USB ports stopped working after an update. On the Surface users I noticed each had a Windows Update installed on 7/14.
Has anyone experienced an uptick in Surface tablets or Windows 7 Pro workstations since the latest Windows update?

  • Windows Updates Causing CFMX7 and CF8 to no longer run.

My CFMX7 and CF8 developer's copy will no longer run on my
computer. The only thing I've done is install window's updates.
Now, every time I reboot, I have to restore to a date about 2 weeks
ago. Then it will run until I have to reboot again. Then I have to
restore again. I have no idea what to do about this. Any help would
    be appreciated.
I have both CFMX7 and CF8 installed to run as stand alone
concurrent systems. CFMX7 is supposed to run on port 8500. CF8 is
set to run on 8501. And both DO run, but only when I restore after
    reboots.
The only thing I can think of doing at this point is
uninstalling both CF servers and reinstalling them. This will be a
hastle, though, since I'll have to re-setup all my ODBC sources and
copy my wwwroot folders, hoping I don't forget anything else that
I'll have to reset in the adminstrators after I reinstall. This
would be my last choice of action, but I have to act soon as this
is interfering with my dev work with customers.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Zy Forever wrote:
    > Thanks Ian. Can you give me more information on this, or
tell me where to look to find it?
The exact location depends on what flavor of CF you have
    installed,
    server, multi-home, j2ee, etc.
But there are a collection that in CF 7 where all called
    neo-xxx.xml. I
believe the xml file names are similar for CF 8.
If you copy the desired xml file from your old installation
    into a new
installation and then restart the CF server all the settings
    can be
    restored.
If you are using enterprise or development license servers
    you can also
achieve the above using the built in CAR (ColdFusion Archive)
    feature of
    the administrator.

  • Recent Security update causes sluggish response in new computer

I recently ran the latest security update, and ever since my laptop has been sluggish. Simple things like trying to open a document on the internal HD, or open an external drive aliased to my desktop, give me a whirling colorwheel.
This is a new laptop and I didnt have these kind of issues before the security update, so I'm guessing thats the cause. I verified disk permissions after the update.
    Anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks
    Duane

I verified disk permissions after the update.
Try repairing permissions and restarting your computer. If that does not work, try booting from your install disc & run _*Repair Disk*_ from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select _*Disk Utility.*_
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click *First Aid.*
    Click _*Repair Disk.*_
    Restart your computer when done.

  • T410s bluetooth driver update causing BSOD

A bluetooth driver update seems to be the cause of bluescreen crashes on my T410s running windows 7 64bit.  this has happened with all bluetooth driver updates I attempted to install in the past year.  a windows optional update installed a broadcom bluetooth driver which caused crashes. I unstalled the update and the system returned to normal. two lenovo updates had the same problem specifically: thinkpad bluetooth drivers 6.5.1.4500, and 6.2.1.3100.
for anyone having similar problems, I found that using the older 6.2.0.9421 bluetooth driver has resolved the issue.
