Windows Update KB2973112 and KB2977629

We have a software package developed in .NET.
On Sept 9, 2014 Windows update KB2973112 and KB2977629 updated the ieframe.dll file for Win7, 64-bit machines. This causes our software to crash after each save
or sometimes just moving from page to page.
Doing a search on Google reveals that we're not the only company with this problem.
How do we contact the engineers at Microsoft to fix this update on their next 'Patch Tuesday'?
I've tried soooooo many different channels, and nobody seems to take responsibility for it.
Can anyone help to point me in the right direction? For now, I'm having to ask our customers (using W7) to uninstall these updates so that they can continue to use our software.
Many thanks
Melissa

  • While running windows updates KB2971850 and KB3000850, error 80070002 appears.

    Original post
here. Was told to post in this forum.
    Both KB2971850 and KB3000850 fail.
Running Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64 bit.
    Steps tried:
     - Log on as Administrator
     - Stop Windows Update Service and clear SoftwareDistribution\Download and DataStore.
     - Perform clean boot by disabling all startup and all non-MS services
     - Download and run WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab
     - Download standalone installers for each KB update
Absolutely nothing works. Looks like other people have had the same error however one of the above steps always seemed to fix it.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi Gardnerp2,
You can follow these steps to troubleshoot this kind of issue:
You can't install updates in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Server 2008 R2

  • Script to query OU for last Windows update date and time

Hi All, I need help in writing a script which can query an OU in active directory and then return most recent date of windows updates installation. It will also be helpful if the script can sort the names and then send output to a file (any format will
do). I know basic of querying a local computer but not remote query, I am terrible at scripting side of powershell. Thanks people.

I am referring to the script below, how can I get the result to output in an XLS or CSV format, I tried couple of combinations but couldn't get it to work.# This script shows the last time that a successfull Windows Update was installed.clsadd-PSSnapin quest.activeroles.admanagement

  • Windows Updates GPO and restarts

Our environment consists of 15-20 Windows 2008 virtual servers, and ideally I would like for updates to download and install at a specified time. Getting that right seems easy enough via GPO, but what I am trying to avoid is the server auto-restarting afterwards.
My goal is to just be able to go in manually after scheduled updates should have occurred and reboot the server on my own.
I can see where you can enable "No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations", but my concern is the "logged on users" part.
Meaning, I log on and off to my servers via RDP to do anything. So with that in mind, if my scheduled updates are taking place late at night when nobody is "logged on", it would seem this setting would have it auto-restart because nobody appears
logged on.  Am I thinking correctly on this?

this topic gets discussed a lot in the WSUS forum, since it's all about the WUAgent behaviour and the settings WUAgent is influenced by (and some settings are offered by GP but are not honoured on all versions of Windows).
Although the templates and settings are part of GP, it's not actually a GP function, it's actually a WUAgent thing.
WUAgent settings are a little "misleading", in that you can nominate the day/time to perform a scan + install, but you can't control the day/time of any subsequent restart, using basic GP settings (which is why there are other products like ConfigMgr and
3rd party products, both of which use the WU APIs and SDK)
Lawrence has written a number of blog posts on his solarwinds blog, detailing the various settings and how they behave, on different versions of Windows.

  • Windows Update in Endless Loop of 'Installing updates" and "Undoing changes" on New Windows 8.1 Pro Install

I am setting new Windows 8.1 Pro computers, and am installing Windows 8.1 Pro to bare drives.  Everything goes fine until Windows Update starts installing updates, and then the computer goes for hours installing updates, and then "We
could not complete the updates Undoing changes".   It's an endless loop. It seems to be the same 38 updates.  This is a recent phenomenon.  I have not run into this until the last week or two on several new computer installs.
Again these are brand new installs, so something is clearly wrong with the Windows updates.
If anyone can please tell me how to avoid this, it would be much appreciated.
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
"  This is a recent phenomenon"
Have you made any modifications to the machines ?
To resolve this issue ,running the built-in troubleshoot tool is a very good beginning .It will automatically diagnostic the windows update components and check the configurations for us .
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\Fix problems with Windows Update
If there are antivirus software installed in these machines, please turn off them temporarily to have a check.
The command line included in the link as S.Sengupta posted is very useful and convenient to repair the windows corrupted files .We can have a try .
    "sfc /scannow" ,"DISM.EXE /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth "
We also can check the windowsupdate.log for more information to troubleshoot this issue .
     Run "windowsupdate.log"
If you have trouble in analyzing the log ,please upload them to the OneDrive and paste the link here .
    Best regards

  • IE 11 Does not load pages and "Stops Responding" After 11/26/2013 Windows Update

I have Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. IE 11. (Doesn't matter if I try to open 32 or 64 bit IE)
I keep Automatic Updates on and they install as soon as they are available.
Everything on my PC was running fine 11/25/13.
I came to it 11/26/13 after Windows Updates ran and now whenever I open any webpages, it does not load the web page 100%, no hyperlinks can be clicked on and once you attempt to click on anything. I get the "IE 11 has stopped responding" bubble.
It also seemed to affect Firefox which does not completely load pages either.
Any shove in the correct way to help solve this would be helpful.

    Robert -
Anyone who has gathered over 13,000 points is certainly to be respected as being super smart and uber helpful.  However, your response is inadequate on two counts.
First, "stopped working" is not an inexact phrase, nor is it a euphemism trotted out by a newbie who hasn't the skill to describe the problem accurately. "stopped working" is an exact part of the error message issued by Windows.  Of course it would
help if Windows would issue error messages that are more useful, but that is a different issue. For the purposes of this discussion, "stopped working" as part of the exact error message is a useful piece of information.
Second, despite your excellent suggestions for hunting down the problem, I'm guessing that few people here have the time or inclination to be beta testers for Microsoft.  Even if the exact cause is found, it is not likely that anyone here will
be able to fix the problem.  There are literally hundreds of people complaining about this problem in multiple forums.  If you know your consumer behavior metrics, then you know that means tens of thousands are affected.  This is systemic, not
a random problem on a few errant machines.  Microsoft needs to know that they have a major problem on their hands and they need to fix it.  I saw this problem starting with IE 10.  Is it any wonder that in that time, IE usage has fallen greatly
while Chrome has become the dominant browser?  (The only reason I am bothering to write instead of just shifting to Chrome is that Chrome also has its bugs, one of which affects a web app I use several times a week, so I need a functioning version of
    IE.)
So thanks Robert for all your help in the past, but this response isn't helpful.
Microsoft, are you listening?  Fix your browser.

  • Windows 2008 R2 Server not showing update history and not detecting new updates

    Hi Sirs,
We have a Windows 2008 R2 server which is showing an empty windows update history, and is not detecting new updates from the WSUS server. It says that the windows is up to date, no error when trying to detect new updates, but I doubt it because when I checked
the installed updates menu, it shows that that the most recent update date installed was last 2013, it just stop detecting and installing updates. I've already tried the ff workarounds but to no avail:
    1. restart wuauserv and bits service
    2. rename/delete the software distribution folder
    3. reinstalled the update agent/restarted the server
    4. deleted the susclientid on the registry
Thanks in advanced for your help.

Updates have not been available for Windows Server 2008 R2 *RTM* systems since April, 2013.

    Does the reference to
    D67661EB-2423-451D-BF5D-13199E37DF28
refer to Windows Update Agent and is a scan to find and down the updated version simply failing?

    Hi,
This structure is a general Windows Error report structure. There are different meanings for different types.
For the details, you could read this article:
    WerReportSetParameter function
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb513626(v=vs.85).aspx
For your specific error, we could get these:
P1: 7.6.7600.320 means Windows agent version.
P2: 80246002 means the exact error code
    P3: D67661EB-2423-451D-BF5D-13199E37DF28
should be the specific Windows Agent GUID.
    Let's verify it:
Look for this GUID in your Windows Update log file located in C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log. There you could verify if it's a Windows agent.

  • Using FF 6.0.2 on Windows 7 64bit has anyone else noticed slow FF windows updates unless pointer was over a FF window and moving?

I've noticed FF 6.0.2 windows update faster and downloads stay active when the mouse pointer is over a FF window and moving. I've "played" with the download window. When I allow the pointer to just sit, the download usually stops. When I move the pointer, the download resumes. This is verified by the lights on the cable modem showing changes in internet activity.
The same appears true in cases like the FF help search. Type a question and hit return and screen stalls. Move the mouse and the screen refreshes.

    Hello,
I am not very familiar wth Microsoft Security Essentials, but believe that it just makes use of the existing Windows Firewall which is present with the operating system.
To me it is odd that the guest OS reports 192.168.1.254 as the IP address for its gateway and DHCP server yet it cannot access them when pinged.  Let's try pinging from host to guest (and vice-versa)  and see what happens:
From the host OS at 192.168.1.78, try pinging the guest OS at 192.168.1.75.
Then, from the guest OS at 192.168.1.75, trying ping the host OS at 192.168.1.78.
Is each operating system able to ping each other?

  • Software Update Point and Windows Services

    Hello,
I am using SCCM to manage updates, so I am curious if I can disable the service for Windows Update and the updates will still install from SCCM. From what I can tell I can, but want to be sure. Problem we are having is Even with the GPO set to disable Automatic
Updates, computers are still reaching out to Microsoft. I verified the change is taking place by checking HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Update\AU and see the NoAutoUpdate DWORD set to 0x...1(1). On the machines under the Windows Update I see that
    Automatic Update is disabled.
My thought is I can disable Windows Update/Automatic Update and this communication will stop. What problems do I expose myself to by doing this?

Thanks for the sites, very easy to understand and cleared the mud some. So I am not controlling the WSUS server in GPO, I am letting the SCCM Agent modify the local policy so that it points to the Primary server, which also has WSUS installed. Also from
the reading, Windows Update/Automatic Update is necessary for SUP.
I don't know what to do to stop the communication to Microsoft's update services. Our LAN/WAN group has gone as far as blocking the IPs being used on the Client PC subnets, but the communication is still happening for some reason.

They are seeing it at app level as ms-update, if that means something to someone else. It is a client in SCCM 2012 too, and I don't have the option to allow Microsoft Updates if the DP doesn't have the updates on it.

  • Downloaded latest Itunes and Windows Update and everything fell apart

Okay, I dl'd the latest Itunes and Windows Update today and turned off my computer. When I came back and turned it on, it became really slow and the style for all the "windows headings" turned "gray classic theme." I tried running Itunes and a box comes up saying that I "Do not have access to change the Catalyst Control," my ATI driver I think (x1300). Then it says that I can't run Itunes because the audio is configured wrong. I go to my Audio settings in the "control panel" and everything is grayed out except the hardware choices. I clicked on their properties (SigmaTel Audio), but nothing would come up for 45 minutes. I am barely running in VGA mode and cannot access the internet connections in IE, thus barring me from Microsoft's updates. Sorry if it's hard to understand, but I'm ****** because I can't listen to all the new stuff I bought on Itunes yesterday Does anyone have any clues or ideas?

    Hi,
I would like to suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot this issue:
    1.
Stop the Windows Update service temporarily.
    2.
Run the following commands to rename the SoftwareDistribution directory.
    cd %windir%
    ren SoftwareDistribution SDTemp
    exit
    3.
    Start the Windows Update service.
If the issue persists, please also reset Windows Update components and run System Update Readiness Tool. For the detailed steps, please refer to the
    following Microsoft KB articles:
