Windows Update / missing File: sqlrun_sql.msi

I have a new Thinkpad SL500, Vista Home Premium with Lenovo Software. The machine is new/just out of the package/ and nothing else but the preinstalled Software is installed. First I tried to install all Lenovo and MS updates to have an uptodate system.
Using Windows update, it stops with (german) message: "Sicherheitsupdate für SQL-Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB954606)" doesnot find File: sqlrun-sql.msi.
I have looked in sopport.microsoft.com/kb/919895  (and 903275) which are recommended do read, but did not find a solution.
I am an unexperienced End-user so please answer in simple steps,
thank you for any help. - István

The error is because one or more msi files is missing from the C:\WINDOWS\INSTALLER folder. Please read
this and this on how to resolve this issue.

  • Itunes 9.2 update windows vista missing file: itunes.msi

    I was instructed to download the latest update, which I have but now can't install it due to getting the error message saying that the itunes.msi file is missing. I can't uninstall itunes because of the same error. After doing some digging around I know that there used to be a solution that used the "Windows clean up facility" but that has now been retired by Microsoft and shouldn't be used! I have no idea what to do now and its getting very frustrating. Please help!

    Fair enough that you aren't keen on using the utility. Unfortunately, it's the only really effective and straightforward way I've found of dealing with a missing iTunes.msi in the five or so years I've been troubleshooting that particular class of errors.
    If you do eventually decide to try using CleanUp, see the following post for some precautions that would be wise to take:

  • Deploying a Windows update MSU-file in SCCM 2007

    Hi all,
    we have SCCM 2007. I have a Windows Update file that i need to deploy via SCCM. Its a file with the extension msu. Do i need to convert it to an exe file? If so, how would i be able to do it?
    Please advice. Thank you.

    Hi,
    You don't need to convert the update, you use WUSA.exe with the MSU file eg. wusa.exe Windows6.0-KB934307-x86.msu /quiet
    Take a look at these two articles they explain how to distribute the file:

  • Can not update itunes.  Error of missing file itunes64.msi

    I am trying to update my iTunes software to version 11.0.1.  I am running windows 7.  I get an error message itunes64.msi is missing.  (within the message it says the feature is on a network that is unavailable).  When I google it there are many references to this error, but no quick and easy solution.  Any thoughts?

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

    Perform a Thorough & Complete Uninstall and Reinstall of iTunes/QuickTime
    (Compiled from the collective wisdom of toonz and Da Gopha)
    If you want to guarantee a successful upgrade and be proactive about minimizing potential install issues, do the following:
    1. Completely Backup your music and iTunes library files.
    2. Virus check / spyware scan your machine.
    3. Completely remove / uninstall the current version of iTunes and QuickTime from your system.....
    3a. – Do a Stepwise clean uninstallation of iTunes
    3b. - Then download and install the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility
    .....And make sure iTunes is really gone.
    4. Delete the contents of your temp folder: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp
    5. Reboot the PC
    6. Turn off all security software such as Norton, McAfee, SpySweepers, any TSRs, etc. (exit via the system tray)
    7. Start with the QuickTime standalone installer run from the PC (not directly from on-line)
    8. Reboot the PC
    9. Turn off all security software such as Norton, McAfee, SpySweepers, any TSRs, etc. (exit via the system tray)
    10. First completely download, then run the latest iTunes Installer from your PC
    11. Reboot the PC
    The majority of problems out there on the discussion boards are caused by viruses or other system corruption — sometimes self-inflicted by the user (i.e. - people who turn off necessary Windows services) — or out of date drivers. You may want to consider this if your PC falls into one of these categories.

  • SP1 Failed Update - Update missing file in temp folder

    An Update to SP1 failed. The System is running now in its old state and working fine.
    The problem now is, that I can't update to SP1. The SP1 Installer detects the failed patch installation, and tries to continue the installation. It fails, searching for a file that doesn't exist, in the windows temp folder.
    Is there a way to tell the SP1 installer to ignore the failed installation, and behave as if it's the first time it tries to install the update?

    HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\V15\CafeRole   is on a CAS Server.
    HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\V15\MailboxRole is on the Mailbox Server.
    In my case the problem was on the mailbox server. After I deleted it the
    setup started normally, without noticing an uncomplete install.
    Thanks, that key was exactly what I was hopping for, but I didn't know what to search for.
    SP1 installation finished.

  • Vista Home Premium - Error code 80070490 - Windows update

    Problem - When I try to update from Windows Update (both manual and automatic) I get error code 80070490
    I have tried - System restore, downloading and paying for "RegCure" and following instructions on Microsoft forum all without success.
    The computer was supplied with a recovery disk which does not have "repair" facility.

    This error may occur if the older Windows Update engine files cannot be
    replaced by Windows Update Agent 3.0 (7.0.6000.374).
    To troubleshoot this issue, I suggest we first reset permission and
    reinstall Windows Update Agent 3.0.
    Step 1: Reset permission
    ================
    1. Please download the subinacl.msi file from the following link and save
    the installation patch onto the Desktop:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...inityDownloads
    2. Please go to the Desktop and double click the downloaded file.
    3. Please select the C:\Windows\System32 folder as the Destination Folder
    during the installation. Later we will use this tool to reset the permission
    settings on the current machine.
    Note: If UAC (User Account Control) window is prompted for permission to
    continue, please click Continue.
    4. Click the Start Button, in the Start Search bar, type: "notepad" (without
    quotes) and press Enter.
    5. Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad
    window:
    @echo off
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f
    subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f
    @Echo =========================
    @Echo Finished.
    @Echo =========================
    @pause
    6. After pasting the above commands, please close the Notepad window. Choose
    Save when you are prompted to save the file. Type "reset.bat" as the file
    name and choose Desktop from the left panel as the save location.
    7. Refer to the Desktop and right click the reset.bat file, then choose "Run
    as administrator."
    8. You will see a DOS-like window processing.
    NOTE: It may take several minutes, please be patient. When it is finished,
    you will be prompted with the message: "Finished, press any key to continue".
    Step 2: Reinstall Windows Update Agent 3.0
    ===========================
    1. Please download the file from the following link:
    Windows Vista (32bit)
    http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe
    Windows Vista (64bit)
    http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x64.exe
    2. Save the file to D: drive.
    Note: Please select a drive where Windows Vista was not loaded because the
    file cannot be launched directly from the system root directory.
    3. Click Start->Run, type: "D:\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe /wuforce"
    (without quotations) and then press Enter to install the Windows Update
    engine.
    Note: There is a space between "D:\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe" and
    "/wuforce"
    Now, let's run Windows Update again.

  • Windows update on windows 7 laptop will not work

    Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.
    I am receiving the above message every time I click the ' check for updates' icon. Restarting does not resolve the problem.
    I have trawled the internet and found a solution that worked for several people- going to services.msc, closing windows update,
    deleting files in c:\windows\software distribution, reopening windows update through services.msc- however this has not resolved the issue for me.
    Under systems.msc it is listed as started, automatic (delayed)
    The Background Intelligence Transfer service is the same. I have checked the profiles of both programs and there are no discrepancies.
    I have used the microsoft fix it program. No effect
    Please help!

    Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver was THE fix for me as well.  I had spent many hours on this today trying to resolve the following errors:
    Windows Update could not get updates because "the
    service was not running" (even though Windows Update and the BITS services and others
    were in fact running).
    Also Windows Defender Service could not start.  I opened the Windows Defender Control Panel applet, it told me it was stopped, I clicked on the Turn On button, while at the same time I monitored the services app (command prompt - services.msc).
    I watched the status of Windows Defender service.  It kept changing from Stopped to Started just for a second or so, then the service would immediately stop again.  In Control Panel, Windows Defender finally timed out
    with the same error listed by amerianz:  Error 0x8e5e0247: 0x8e5e0247
    I tried many things from different search results for these 2 issues.  Among other things, after I disabled Antivirus, I stopped WUAUSERV and BITS, renamed Windows\SoftwareDistribution then restarted.  I tried a Windows Update
    FixIt on the Microsoft FixIt center.  It said it found and fixed Windows Update issues, but no change.  I tried running SFC /SCANNOW from command prompt. The log said it found corrupted files but this made no difference.
    Finally after installing the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver, my PC immediately found new hardware and installed a driver.  Note: before installing this driver, all hardware listed in
    Device Manager already had drivers installed.  I was then prompted to reboot.  After rebooting, Windows Update still had a red X and could
    not check for updates.  So I opened the Windows Defender Control Panel applet, which showed that updates were available.  This meant of course that the Windows Defender service had started successfully.  I then clicked on the
    Check for Updates button on Windows Defender, and after several seconds while Windows Defender was looking for updates, I noticed that the
    Windows Update icon had appeared in the system tray and Windows was downloading new updates.  Both issues fixed.  Many thanks.

  • Windows update error code 80072ee6

    I'm getting error code 80072ee6 when I'm checking for updates. Has anybody seen this error code before?

    Even though this thread is old, I give a possible solution to the 80072EE6 error code for Windows Update (WSUS) because it is my hope that someone will see this and my "fix" will work for them.
    Step: 1 (Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7)  create a registry update file using the following settings (remove comments and other instructional typing):
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
    "WUServer"="http://Your WSUS Server" (Example:
    http://192.168.150.5
    Be sure to include the "HTTP://)
    "WUStatusServer"="http://Your WSUS Server"  (This should be a duplicate of the one above)
    "AcceptTrustedPublisherCerts"=dword:00000001
    "ElevateNonAdmins"=dword:00000001
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]
    Unless you KNOW what you are doing, leave this section as-is:
    "AUOptions"=dword:00000004
    "AUPowerManagement"=dword:00000001
    "AutoInstallMinorUpdates"=dword:00000001
    "DetectionFrequencyEnabled"=dword:00000000
    "EnableFeaturedSoftware"=dword:00000000
    "NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers"=dword:00000000

    "RebootRelaunchTimeout"=dword:000000f0

    "ScheduledInstallTime"=dword:00000023
    "UseWUServer"=dword:00000001
    "IncludeRecommendedUpdates"=dword:00000001
    "NoAUShutdownOption"=dword:00000001
    "NoAUAsDefaultShutdownOption"=dword:00000001
    Merge the file into the rgistry
    Step 2: Create a batch file and copy and paste the following:
    ECHO OFF
    CLS
    REM This prorgam will clear the Windows Update files and folders from the %windrive%\SoftwareDistribution
    REM directory.  Then it will clean the registry of the Windows Update settings and re-apply them.
    REM Once this is done, it will call for the WSUS server to rebuild the Windows Update folder structure.
    ECHO This program will clear the Windows Update Files and Folders.
    ECHO It will reset the Registry entries and re-start the Windows
    ECHO Update by calling the WSUS server for Updates. Once started,

    REM This part renames the Windows Update log file
    C:
    cd %systemroot%
    IF EXIST windowsupdate_log.old del windowsupdate_log.old
    ren WindowsUpdate.log WindowsUpdate_log.old
    REM This part restarts windows update services

    If you use any of the above, you do so at your own risk.  I have successfully run this batch file over 100 times and it works for me.  I suggest that you try this on ONE CLIENT before using it on the rest.  This has completely resolved our
    problems with clients that shows the dreaded 80072EE6 error code.

    Hi,
    This structure is a general Windows Error report structure. There are different meanings for different types.
    For the details, you could read this article:
    WerReportSetParameter function
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb513626(v=vs.85).aspx
    For your specific error, we could get these:
    P1: 7.6.7600.320 means Windows agent version.
    P2: 80246002 means the exact error code
    P3: D67661EB-2423-451D-BF5D-13199E37DF28
    should be the specific Windows Agent GUID.
    Let's verify it:
    Look for this GUID in your Windows Update log file located in C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log. There you could verify if it's a Windows agent.

  • Continued Error 800706F7 during Windows Update

    I've been trying to perform Windows Updates for several weeks but receive error
    800706F7 each time. I've scoured forums and Windows Fixits trying to find a solution and 99% of the time I'm pointed to the
    3004394 Root Certificate update from December 2014 as being the culprit. Uninstalling this update normally allows updates to be downloaded and installed- the problem is fixed.
    This is not the case in my situation. Below are some of the steps I've tried to try to resolve the issue:
    Run 3004393 uninstall tool (doesn't work)
    Try to install 3004394 so I can remove it again (can't install)
    Windows Update Standalone Package
    Windows Update Diagnostic tool
    Start / stop: BITS, Crypto, Windows Update
    System File Check (says there are corrupt files but cannot repair)
    Check Disk
    Clearing Windows/SoftwareDistribution folder
    Various Windows Update Fixits from Microsoft.com
    Uninstall .NET Framework 4.5.2
    Re-validating Windows
    Reviewing CBS.log, WindowsUpdate.log and a few other log files. I couldn't determine anything from them though.
    After each of those attempts, and what seems like a hundred restarts, the problem remains. Any help would be much appreciated- I've spent way too much time trying to fix this!

    Hi jpinney,
    Some required information are needed for us to help you.
    Please make sure your system wasn't cloned from another hard disk and time zone was set correctly, temporarily disable firewall for good measure.
    We might need your Windows update troubleshooter results and SFC details for this issue
    Run findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt in Command Prompt after SFC /scannow so you could get a detail report in C disk.
    If SFC cannot fix your system corruption, you might need to manually replace the corrupted file with a known good copy of the file.
    Also try fixing Windows corruption errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool

    Hi,
    I have a Windows 7 x64 machine that is permanently stuck trying to install the same update.
    I have followed various posts off of MS websites to rename SoftareDistribution etc. but none have helped.
    HAve tried
    1. Boot intoClean Boot Mode and try updating again.
    2. Run the Microsoft Fixit and see how it works.
    How do I reset Windows Update components?
    3. Try System Update Readiness tool by referring toWhat is the System Update Readiness Tool?.
